Paper -

Reminds me of: A cool spring morning, the first day of the season where the windows can be opened wide to let the warmth in, even though it’s still a bit brisk. I’m replacing my bedsheets with warm fresh washed crisp white linens which feel warm against my skin that has turned cold because of the air through the window. I have soft jazz playing in the background while I work through my Sunday chores. The notes in this fragrance are Iso E Super, Sandalwood, Amber, Woodsy notes and Vetiver. I am the biggest Iso E Super stan. I will say I have never met a fragrance with this note that I wasn’t obsessed with. It is absolute magic on my skin. I can’t put my finger on exactly what it smells like to me, but I get the same reaction to this scent that I do with gasoline - in the very best way possible. Paper- is in the family of “your skin but better” fragrances and honestly, it’s one of my favourites. Because it is so simply perfect. I can wear it whenever and wherever and feel like a million bucks. My husband text messaged me while we were both in meetings in our shared office just to say “what ever you got on smells good”. And you simply can’t make that up. Commodity does it again with this one. Can I bathe in their fragrances for the rest of my life? I feel like I don’t hear enough people gush about their fragrances outside of Milk. Color me obsessed. I have two left in my exploration kit in the personal scent space family. I can’t wait to see what these conjure up!

oh i'm obsessed with this. i don't know what it is. i don't care for the rest of the Paper line, but there's something synthetic + warm + cozy in this that has me waving my wrists in front of my nose like i'm giving someone a hidden signal. is it iso e super? i'm fairly new to perfumes, i didn't smell anything from molecule 01, so it's either ambroxan or iso e super or the combo of things in Paper- that has me considering buying a full bottle. i don't like Paper expressive (it's just kinda... nothing with like rubber or vinyl and ink) so perhaps it's not the iso e super that I like? it's a weird and strange fragrance, there's no particular season or time you Cannot wear this, though it's a Personal so may not suit a formal event or clubbing where you want to be smelled (or wear this there anyway, it's your life, and might give a cool and mysterious vibe). sillage is of course close to the skin, but longevity is surprisingly long. it's that funny but marvellous synthetic note that lasts ages. i can understand why this has low reviews because i can see this working on some people but not others, defs try before buy.

I absolutely adore this scent. For some insane reason to me, my family doesn’t seem to love it as much as I do. But I don’t care lol. I’m obsessed. It is oddly reminiscent of paper is some bizarre way that I can’t exactly put my finger on. I don’t understand the reviews where ppl claim it was not long lasting or had a weak sillage. For me, I have found it’s the opposite. It’s very long lasting, and projects greatly.. not too much, but enough. I can spray it on while wearing my sweater, and a week or so later still smell it on the sweater as I pull it back off the coat rack. It also smells similar ( imo ) to Chanel De Bleu L’Exclusif for men. CDB has a faint hint of Paper-. Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised by that because they share a lot of the same notes. CDB has a much stronger, sweeter amber - woodsy note, but you can catch a nice whiff of that signature Paper scent here and there. I am obsessed with both. Paper- is very unisex. I’m a 33 year old woman and truly enjoy wearing it. It’s a lovely fragrance and it is what sparked my love for Commodity, causing me to purchase their discovery sets.

Let it be known that I have a thing for these chemically molecular scents and this is what that is. If you’re not an Iso-E fan, you’re probably best off avoiding. Paper (-) holds its own in a long line of beautiful molecular compositions, of which Thomas Kosmala No. 4 and No. 10, Another 13, Molecule 01 (as well as the + guaiac wood verison), and the Nemat Amber Oil are my absolute favorite smells. It does well to evoke the scent of warm, white printer paper straight from the copier. It dries down soft and woody and ambery on the skin after the chemicals have faded, leaving you with this ever lingering sense of comfort and peace every time you catch a whiff. It’s really lovely and I hope to add it to my collection one day. 9.5/10

This is one of my favorite fragrances of all times, it is unlike any other "skin" scent, it's futuristic. It's perfectly unisex, and yes, it opens up strong sometimes, depending on the day and the state of your skin. I have been told that I smelled like "the dentist's office in the best possible way", and I think this is a pretty accurate description. It is not a blind purchase fragrance, you really have to test if it work with your skin! It doesn't work for many people. But I stand by this scent, it is one of a kind. It lasts 6 hours on average on my skin, which is a lot longer than some expensive scents like "I don't know what" and such.

I want to smell like paper! I love this perfume. It’s dry, creamy, white woodsy and slightly spicy. I’m definitely going to buy a full bottle of this. I’ve layered my tester with a gourmand, a chypre, an oriental woodsy and it enhances each beautifully. ISO E turns so creamy and warm on me so it’s no surprise that this perfume is a winner for me. And I definitely want to smell like paper.

I must have skin chemistry that only works amazingly well with perfumes like this. It smells like JHAG Not A Perfume, but a little more soapy? Paper- has an amazing projection and longevity. My coworker said he could smell me in the room before he saw me and that was a few hours after I put the perfume on.

I really love this. Such a nice scent on both skin and clothes, very intimate as the scent profile promises. I personally HATED Juliet has a gun, and felt it smelled like leather and bad breath.... This scent is JHAG if it was done right. Very simple but just right, love wearing it to bed!

On a test strip this smelled like nothing to me, but on skin it's very nice. It's a soft and woody iso e fragrance, freshly sweet and very much a skin scent, as to be expected. Edit: It's not as animalic as idk what from DS and Durga, sharper than Molecule 01 and woodier than JHAG.

I moisturized my body with Victoria's Secret honey line (lotion, oil, and body spray) and put this on top. I am in love. I rate this combo a 10/10. The dry down was just as amazing. I can't stop smelling myself. I got this in a sample size, but I am going to buy a huge bottle 🥰

Smells like dry wood and paper. This is a straight scent, not environmental. Mostly frame, so it stays quiet and structural. Likely built on dry wood/iso-type molecules. Compared to the rest of the line, this is the skeletal one. Linear and easy to wear.

Love this! It’s very intimate, and that’s what I really love. It isn’t trying too hard, it’s a very simple composition of notes but it smells fantastic. Very woodsy and light on the skin. It mixes well with my sweat, making it a great summer scent.

Love it. It’s basically Molecule 01 or JHAG Not a Perfume/Superdose, but probably most similar to JHAG. If you’re not into those types of fragrances, you probably won’t like this one either. Like the others, it’s great alone or layered.

This perfume smells very similar to Juliette Has A Gun’s Not A Perfume, which is a-ok by me (because I love them both). Woodsy and spicy, but not overpowering.

This is one of maybe two fragrances that my husband has complimented me on. It's a love for both of us.

I absolutely enjoy this. This is exactly like JHAG and a skin scent. warm and cozy.

smells exactly like a cocaine nosebleed?

I came across the house Commodity via Fragrantica and ordered the Paper and Book exploration kits. And so glad I did, because this really seems to be my type of fragrance house, as I generally like musky/woodsy skin fragrances and these are all that. Commodity says that the Personal (-) and the Bold (-) are same as Expressive but with added notes to make the scent softer (-) or more intense (+). But to me it seems they did not only add to Personal, but also took away: I am not smelling the sandalwood in Personal (or maybe far far away, but actually... no I don’t). When spraying, I smell sharp alcoholic glue (is this the Iso E super?) and it take a few minutes to loose this as it dries down. Then I smell smoke (fireplace in winter) mixed with ambroxan. It’s literally like JHAG Not a perfume on clothes that were worn next to a good smelling fireplace. Smoke in a nice way, almost like a very soft smoky leather, subtle and not too masculine. Weirdly and sadly, I am not smelling the sandalwood that should be in here as a key note. The scent is close to skin, as promised. The Ambroxan projects a bit, but for the interesting smokey note I have to sniff my wrist or sweater to smell it and I don’t think other people will notice it unless they’d hug me. I like to concept of personal where only people standing close to you can smell your perfume, but I think this is too close to skin for even those to smell it. I wish it had a bit better projection and longevity on the smokey woodsy notes. To summarize: First 3 minutes: sharp chemical glue Next 2 hours: ambroxan and a very interesting soft woodsy smokey scent After 2 hours: mostly just ambroxan To me, this is a more interesting version of JHAG not a perfume, but as I already have a big bottle of JHAG I don’t think I’d buy a full-size of this one. If only the woodsy smokey notes would have been more pronounced...

I got this in a discover kit-first impression was definitely reminded me of cracking open a brand new book; something glossy. I was most curious about this one on the skin-this is sort of a pro/con, but even now I'm catching hints of it every few minutes from the fan. I think Id love this mixed with something. If it had a powder/sweet musk it might be a win. Maybe it's just my nose, but the smell I keep getting is a bit like clean bar soap? that sharp tang which I think is accurate to paper, but messing w my appetite (ironic bc strong ivory soap-type smells have always given me an uneasy tummy) I still think there's a place for it. Disclaimer* Im insanely picky but love the idea of perfume & thus far ive only ever liked pure grace by philosophy & Egyptian musk (my signature) so take this w a grain of salt. if you want a clean, energizing scent though that's mild & unique or opposite of floral I recommend it. The search continues *sigh*

This is a photorealistic paper scent. It is wild how real it is! There is no hint of sweetness, just a crisp, clean, woody paper fragrance. This scent is a crisp, musky, ambery fragrance that is slightly warm but veryy dry-woody with a skin-like spicy musk. It sits close to the skin, and I would say it's in the same vein as Glossier You but significantly less powdery and peppery. It's really nice. It's not an exact dupe for JHAG Not a Perfume-- that one has a powdery base in the dry down, and Paper- does not lean powdery. It is WOODS. It's definitely in the same realm though of just base notes only types of scents. I wouldn't say that it is particularly inviting or sexy or cozy sweater vibes like Glossier You (though it is in that family), but I can really see that it would be a great office scent or base layer to support other scents on top!

At first, this fragrance hits me with a strong alcoholic scent. Smelling immediately after spraying gives nothing more than rubbing alcohol. However, wait a few seconds as the cologne absorbs into the skin and the pungent alcohol dissipates and opens up into a much warmer scent. Woody, not sweet nor bitter, but natural with a strong hit of musk. The scent is dry, powdery, not jumping out at you but subtly looming. Paper. However, to me this fragrance reminds me of that "old people smell" that wafts over you when you embrace your grandparents. Not that it is dated or gross, but more so that it is warm, smooth, and natural. On some occasions I can find this scent to be overbearing but, when applied in the proper amount it is just present enough to keep me curious and satisfied.

This is very much in the same realm as Not A Perfume, but to my surprise it seems to perform notably better. Same burst of alcohol in the opening that leads to the iso e super, but Paper is more peppery and dry compare to the mossy, wet feeling of NAP. On me NAP dissappear just 10' after the initial spray and I would have to dive my nose into my skin to catch the faintest hint of it, whereas Paper still has a decent projection for a skin cent. Regarding whether it lives up to its name, I personally don't associate this scent with paper. Another review below compared it to burnt paper, which is probably the only description I could agree with. Overall it's a nice one in it's category, a good subtle scent for everyday use and sensitive users.

This is just so good. I have never been one for woody fragrances or amber, but, wow. I was initially interested in Milk, but found it nauseating. I smelt Paper afterward and fell in love. It becomes so soft and comforting on the dry-down—blends beautifully with both skin and clothing. There's a slight edginess to it, but that doesn't detract from how calming this scent is. Very unisex, maybe *slightly* more masculine-leaning, but very versatile nonetheless. This is long-lasting on my skin, but projection is weak as this is the personal formula. I don't know what to compare Paper to—it's unlike any of my other fragrances. I'm excited to see if this layers well with any of them!

I received a mini spray of this with a Sephora purchase. I really liked that the mini came in what is basically a small, 5ml travel spray. To me, it’s very photorealistic of pages in a used book and also smells like wood shavings. It’s very dry and obviously sits close to the skin, but has decent projection. I haven’t worn it by itself long enough to speak on its longevity, but I really like layering over some other perfumes to enhance the woodiness. By itself, it leans masculine but layering over another skin scent that has a little sweetness, it will lean feminine. It is a very interesting fragrance, indeed.

I really didn't think I would like this. Who wants to smell like paper? An actual ream of paper is almost the absence of scent. At first spray, the fragrance was of a surgical room. My first thought was "If you are looking to smell clean and sterilized, this is the fragrance for you!" Luckily this is just the opening. Paper settles into a hint of fresh chopped wood. Smells lovely, actually. Like a cut log in the snow on a cold sterile day. Warm and fresh at the same time. Says it's a close to the skin scent, but I could smell it around me as I moved through the house. Well done, Commodity.

I finished my sample today. This is a nice, clean, simple ISO E Super "skin scent." I do think this one sits rather close to the skin, but unlike many other perfumes, and of course ISO E Super scents, I'm able to detect this on my skin for hours without going nose blind! Maybe because it's so softly projecting? I find it warmer and drier than Not A Perfume and NAP Superdose, as well as both the regular Paper and Paper +, and perhaps that's why this is my favorite so far of the genre. On my "like" scale of 1<5, this is a 3.

I like it. I’m mostly getting amber and sandalwood, maybe a hint of musk. Luckily no pickle. It’s comforting and familiar, but I don’t remember JHAG Not a Perfume smelling like this. I’ll have to try that again. I don’t know if I would ever buy a full bottle, but probably my favorite Commodity after Gold. Edit: I did get a chance to revisit the JHAG. That is a lighter version. Now I do see the resemblance. Both are good. I would purchase either, but may prefer this.

This is definitely "Like JHAG, but better," as others have said. My problem is that I really struggle to smell it at all, even if I spray it liberally. I love the woodsiness and how it smells more like a living, breathing forest than "wood," if that makes sense. But this smells like when you pull your car up a half mile away from the forest you're about to hike. I want to be in the forest, not anticipating it. Maybe I'd like Paper Expressive or Bold better.

This version is definitely sweeter than both the expressive and the bold, with a much warmer amber opening. After that it settles down into iso and wood, but it’s a very quiet scent on me. Faint and barely there. I get that that’s the point of the “personal” scent space, and that for some people it will be just the thing. As for myself, I prefer the expressive. In that strength, one of my favourite scents - this one is just a little too absent.

Doesn’t really evoke anything that I would associate with paper, basically just smells exactly like a sweeter, warmer Not a Perfume. But I like it, it’s a nice “your skin but better” scent. I’d be interested in trying the other boldness levels - despite its intimate sillage, I was impressed with the longevity of this thing, and could still sense it faintly after 6-7 hours of wear.

There is something to this that I keep going back for another smell to it. Its a bit of a rubbing alcohol smell but with depth(honestly new to fragrance notes not sure if thats the woody notes or if its the ISO) but I find it so addicting - it leans a lot more masculine IMO but I think it could be layered with other scents to create something a bit more sexy?

This is my favorite of the paper trio and could be a good anytime skin scent. It’s basically Milk without the marshmallow note; super woody and musky and cozy but not sweet. Both this and milk also remind me Thomas Kosmala’s Apres L’Amour. The muskiness is super similar but that Apres L’Amour has the volume cranked up and that hint of citrus.

The opening is very Iso-E to me, just like Molecule 01. After 30 min, it softens into this beautiful slightly sweet skin scent and stays that way on me for about 3-4 hrs until it disappears. Without re-applying, I get a faint whiff of it every so often before it disappears again. I like it, but it's not a true love. Definitely a skin scent.

What a perfect skin scent! I cannot even tell the notes because it blends with my skin scent so well. I am not saying it disappears, but it is very molecular. I think it is great, but won't purchase it because it is so, so close to skin. But if you want to trick people that your skin smells better than it really does, this is amazing!

Because this is an iso-e super fragrance, it's not that quiet. I know it's labeled as 'personal,' but iso-e super radiates. It's a nice scent, but if you own any other iso-e super fragrances (JHAG Not a Perfume, Molecule 01) you can pass on this.

A minimalist perfume. Unisex for sure, different for sure. Your skin in better? Yes. Very difficult to describe. My main concerns, after few minutes, are the projection and longevity. I cannot smell... --> So it is a "pass" for me.

Totally a skin scent. I find it rather pleasant as a base layer or just to wear at home. Starts with very alcoholic smell but then develops into Iso E and musk. Reminds me a lot of Acca Kappa's Musk (my fav stay at home scent).

Smells expensive and to me it smells the exact same as Hot Cotton by Baruti! Price and especially ml-wise, this is a more affordable alternative. To me, this is a cozy scent that someone who goes to those fancy cafes would wear

I really like this one. Soft scent that settles down to a sweet woody musk after about an hour, and lasts maybe a total of 4-5 hours before I can't smell it anymore. Very pleasant, office-safe but not boring (to me at least!)

very strong rubbing alcohol smell and first spray , similar to not a perfume by juliette has a gun , then dries down to a woody , subtly sweet scent. projects really nicely as well. i don’t hate it

This smells just like Not A Perfume. At first, it feels a bit harsh, but as time passes, it mellows out and becomes very pleasant. The longer you have it on, the better it feels, oh yes.

strong rubbing alcohol opening but dry down is somewhere between not a perfume and not a perfume superdose- like has the depth of the superdose without being gross

Very woody perfume and the amber note makes it dry down almost sweet. I work in a carpentry shop and the wood notes in this scent are just so realistic.

This does also have the alcohol smell in the opening, but disappears faster than with the expressive one, quite pleasant after that

Opening smell is very strong with alcohol. Dry down smells clean and woody. Very natural and comforting.

Very subtle on my skin. But works great when mixed with Clean Skin and Ebony Wood Zara.

I am completely anosmic to the scent.
