Tonka

Powdery! Yet, sexy. Unisex. I haven't smelled FD from Dior so I've never smelled anything like this - I dont know if its' just an uncommon take on tonka or the artemesia thats giving it that something something especially in the opening that I just cant put my finger on. I guess its a sort of fresh/herbal/aromatic vibe i'm getting from the opening that I can't describe well maybe coming from that artemesia and the cardamom. I really like this, see myself wearing it a lot this fall maybe layering it with vanille west indies from ligne st. barth for a more syrupy feel. Someone below described it as a powdery suede and that is spot on. Not too much vanilla so i feel like it's something unique for fall and winter.

Warm, spicy, a bit sweet but totally unisex. I love this. Blind buy safe if you love a spicy sweet unisex fragrance. Does dry a bit powdery but still has that warm spicy aroma. Good projection and lasts ages on my skin but I’ll test further as I love it. Reminds me a bit of Dior’s Feve Delicieuse. It is not the same as it’s less sweet and more spicy, but definitely that type of fragrance. If you like that you’ll like this. Edit: directly compared to Feve and they are near enough the same. Feve is a bit more tart in the opening for longer, and sweeter overall, but for £150 more it’s not worth it. They achieve the same effect.

i adore this one! bought a 10ml from amazon after seeing it randomly and i am so glad i did. i wouldn't say that this is a gourmand to be honest, it is very powdery ( my mum said i smelled like baby powder). i find it so comforting and nostalgic almost, i feel like this is so me and really want a full bottle but is super hard to find in the uk, if anyone is looking to get rid of one i would be looking to buy!

i must admit, i ordered this on a whim...never sampled it. and i never do that! when i opened it, tried it, i really did not like it. in fact, i planned on returning it and just didn't get around to it. well, i'm glad i didn't, because i tried it again today and i absolutely love it! i am actually getting a lot of vanilla, which i love. so happy i got a second chance!!

I just got a small spray of this from TJ Maxx and I really love this offering from commodity. I was unsure at first spray but it really grew on me. It reminds me of Christmas. It’s warm and spicy and sweet. It’s mature and more of an evening scent. A grown up gourmand. I think it would be great on men as well. Yeah, very nice.

Have had this from what seems like day one. This beats out at least a good 80 percent of what I’ve been smelling as of late. It’s a shame how we (fragrance obsessives) never take the time to really enjoy what we already own before moving on. At least this is true in my case...

This fragrance surprised me a little with the powdery notes that I think the almond, cardamom and tonka are bringing. I ended up loving it and received compliments the first time I wore it. Really good longevity, but it wears a little closer to the skin.

Ok, so according to the note pyramid, I should love this. The problem is...I don't. I mean, it's ok, but it's my least favorite Commodity offering. The blue ribbons for this house go to Velvet, and Gold (from the White Collection). Bergamot is good. Gin is nice. Leather is quite good, but heavy and smoky, so cold weather only for that one. Moss is good too, as is Rain. The problem with this one is it smells nothing like what you'd think when you see the notes. I love tonka, almond, benzoin, Peru balsam, cardamom, magnolia, and lotus. I'm not sure why, but this reminds me of a very strong perfume that I used to smell a lot on old ladies that I've always hated. It's not identical, but it reminds me of it enough for the bad association. Like I said, it's not terrible, but it was disappointing for me, because as far as raw materials, tonka bean is one of my favorites. Oh, and it's quite strong, so if you don't like it, you're stuck with it for a while! I'll give it a generous 6/10 for the scent 8/10 for projection 9/10 for longevity Not bad, but for me, a bit of a disappointment.

Dark and mysterious? More like warm and cuddley! I dont usualy like gourmands, but this is subtlety sweet. Biggest element for me is nutty - like a cashew butter or almond milk with sandalwood and chocolate in the background. I am missing the floral and artemesia altogethet but do get cardamom kinda like in those indian desserts made from condensed milk and cardamom. I am in love the rich and creamy tonka with nut butter vibe. Quite linier, but not a bad thing; this scent stays the same thoughout wear, and last for about 6hr on me at then fades to just a faint sandelwood and benzoin. ⛤⛤⛤

This is like dior privee feve and Jo malone Myrhh + tonka had a baby it's this. On the initial first spray and 5 to 10 min wear I don't like the top notes of cardamom and artemisia it's such a herbal, minty quality that instantly smells unisex but after a 30 minute mark I really enjoy this But only on my hubby it's too unisex leaning masculine for my taste but I think it's a great alternative to jo malone and discontinued feve. Such a steal in comparison to those prices and the projection and longevity are there! Great fragrance for fall and winter and a cold early spring.

Warm and spicy, this is far less vanillaic than I expected, and very much a unisex sort of scent. Here, the tonka bean takes on a powdery suede sort of note rather than a gourmand one, with the liquorice-like artemisia and dusty cardamom creating the illusion of brushed leather. As it dries down, the benzoin becomes more prominent and mixes with the sandalwood, making it a bit smoother. To me, it seems to be a cooler weather scent, like a soft leather jacket you slip on in the fall.

i used to own a bottle of guerlain tonka impériale, then i got a decant of this and this thing is so good, that i sold my tonka impériale. it's very very powdery, so stay away if u can't appreciate a baby powdery scent, but smells so much like bois d'armenie to me, a very warm powdery almondy tonka, it's so zingy that it's almost soapy i can't describe it better, but it's one of those scents that gets in the back of ur throat. absolutely lovely, give it a shot if u can find it!

This is a soft, warm fragrance. It's noticeably sweet with out being cloying in the slightest. I don't get much vanilla, but I get a fair amount of almond. There is a kind of fuzzy feeling to the scent that reminds me a little like carpet or a soft sweater, and I find my self seeking more of it out whenever I catch whiffs of it on my self. It's mostly linear on me, only getting a touch spicier over time.

Very powdery, deep, and rich with that beloved tonka note. This is very nice on its own and I am really enjoying this house. So far, not very challenging fragrances here, but very enjoyable and smell quality. This is a great cozy scent. Grab a warm fuzzy blanket and put this on with it!

I absolutely do not understand how Commodity chooses their names! Milk+ is a sweet tonka bomb with a little milk, Tonka has no discernible tonka at all, but is a cool, clean pure amber. Good sillage

I bought this before the brand closed (I know it recently reopened) and this fragrance was discontinued. Honestly, in store I loved it, but at home the first sprays and wear: so powdery it is a strong dislike for me. I am so surprised that powdery isn't listed in the scent description, because that seems like such a focal note! I feel it is unisex, and the longevity is actually superb. I know others will appreciate this far more than me. I have a full boxed bottle and the travel size, so if interested, message me!

This is very nice, a touch rougher than Velvet Teddy and a bit stronger than Nirvana Amethyst. Not quite as feminine as either, this is genderless enough for my husband to not object to wearing. Commodity Tonka is the same type of scent to me as those, however, MAC Velvet Teddy is currently my favorite but Commodity Tonka ties with Nirvana Amethyst for second place with me. I would recommend to at least grab a rollerball before the brand is gone, a steal at under ten dollars. Rating: 🍒🍒🍒 Cruelty free 🐾

I agree with 1003720 for the most. I was suffering the whole day...and was not able to scrub it off even after shower. My partner could still sense the smell after 9 hours and did not want to stay Close to me, haha. Tonka Commodity smells very powdery: a very-very prominent galbanum/benzoin note that developes only when you put it on skin. It has some sweet vibe, which is extremely cloying. A no-no from me, definitely sample Before you buy. As compared with other Commodity scents, this has an Amazing longevity (not so positive though considering how awful you feel :) ).

I own many commodity fragrances and this is the only one I absolutely hated. Seriously the only fragrance to make me feel literally nauseous. Smelled like powder, didn't get warm or spicy on me. I don't understand the comparison to Velvet Teddy and Amethyst (I own and LOVE both). Returned it.

Went out of my way to find this discontinued scent. I love Commodity Milk and I love tonka... so this should be a great match for me. Sadly not. It's just pure amber on me, and not a particularly nice one at that. I can't smell the tonka at all.

The opening on this is SO sweetly sickening, baby powder that I can hardly bare it! I love tonka as a note but for the first hour I wear this on my skin I have to fight the urge to wash it off. I get no almond till about two hours in and no cardamom at any point. It is not gourmand in any way which makes the strong sweetness mixed with baby powder/baby wipes/doll's head a very unpleasant experience for me. Ugh, wish I had not blind bought this one but the notes looked so promising! P.S. In the picture here the juice looks clear but mine is deep orange in color. Does tonka darken as it ages like vanilla? This is authentic product from Sephora.

Tonka by Commodity is a great reference fragrance if you're wanting to smell tonka beans in their natural, sweet and nutty form. This is a delicious, gourmand-esque fragrance that I would recommend to lovers of tonka bean or vanilla orientals. The most dominant notes in this fragrance include tonka bean, almond, cardamom and sandalwood. It's a rather harmonious blend of spices and woods that inevitably relaxes me. Many compare this fragrance to Christian Dior's Fève Délicieuse. I've personally never smelt Fève Délicieuse, but I am keen to test it now that I have had the pleasure of trying Commodity Tonka. Now that Commodity Tonka has been pulled from production, I guess we all have to find a decent replacement. Tonka by Commodity doesn't have the strongest projection. I find their 'Platinum Collection' as a whole quite weak in terms of sillage and longevity. I get the feeling that these fragrances could be layered with one another, similar to Jo Malone scents. I haven't tried layering any of the Commodity Platinum scents yet, but I'm sure I will in due time. As Tonka by Commodity dries down on my skin, it becomes increasingly powdery, like the scent of talcum powder. I do like powdery fragrances so this isn't an issue for me. The 'nutty' aroma which arises from the blend of tonka bean and almond continues throughout this fragrance's composition and is one of the nicest examples of almond and tonka bean in perfumery.

I have to say, I tried this without expecting much. I didn't look at the notes first, I just assumed it would be a vanilla-esque scent. Pretty standard fare. But no, this one surprised me. I sprayed it and was greeted with a delicious, milky chai tea latte scent. I find tonka on its own to be pretty so-so, and I usually see it as a base note or one used to complement the others notes in the fragrances, but I'm so pleased with how it smells here. It's definitely the focal point, but the cardamom adds a perfect spice to it. The sandalwood and benzoin make the base super warm and fluffy and cozy as well. This is a real hidden gem of a winter scent. If you like scents like Diptyque's Eau Duelle, this may be a new love for you.

They must’ve changed the notes on this one. Years ago, I bought a bottle blindly, when I looked up the scent profile, this had Carrot in it. Not that I smelled any, yet now the note is not listed. Regardless, I do love it, very powdery, very clean sweet, almost cloying sometimes if you overdo it. Sillage is okay for an hour, then it sits real close. Also, I have a second bottle, brand new, I unplasticated it just to do a visual check as I bought it online I could say it’s for sale, but whoever really wants it gotta pay whatever shipping charge on top of agreed price.

I wasn’t expecting to get so much vanilla in this one when it isn’t listed. On my arm, this smells mostly like vanilla play doh. It has more complexity to it than that, but that’s what I mainly get. Interestingly, I keep getting faint wafts of a beautiful vanilla extract scent that has to be from the Tonka, but when I lean down closer to sniff, I’m still getting the vanilla play doh. It’s like two different scents-I don’t like the close up, but it’s nice from further away. This is the only scent so far from the Commodity sample set I got that I don’t care for.

I mean, fight me...but I just got the body lotion of Le Labo Tonka 25 (good price right now on the Costco website), and it smells strikingly like Commodity Tonka. This is one of my favorite of the Commodity line. It's very gender-free in my opinion, just sensual and lovely. It's a fresher, less sweet tonka scent than some others such as Guerlain Tonka Imperiale and Reminiscence Tonka. That freshness is what makes it similar to the Le Labo lotion. Anyone who loves that note can't go wrong with this fragrance.

Another Commodity blind buy from Marshall's. This one is nice enough but nothing outstanding. For $34.95, I will not complain as these were just at Sephora for $100.00 a pop. I will probably sit on this for a while and re-try it when the weather changes. If you are standing at Marshall's right now trying to decide between THIS and another Commodity, maybe go with the other one in your hand. (especially if it's ORRIS or NECTAR! those are great blind buys ) .

I have always loved tonka as a note and am experimenting with it as a fragrance. Solinotes Tonka is juicier than this drier unisex hypnotic warm fragrance that plays a very prominent role in the 80s drugstore classic Skin Musk. Very good longevity.

Something about tonic and sandalwood sometimes remind me of an abercrombie store but not this fragrance. There is very little sweetness and it's a little spicy ( in a camphor-ous sort of way) plus a little bit of vanilla.

Okay, im surprised that this works for anyone because it smells nothing like tonka to me. It’s super powdery and dry. In a youthful way, as in baby diaper youthful. Currently trying to scrub this off.

This is a little cousin to Feve Delicieuse. Feve is more sweet, gourmandy and vanillic, but this smells 80% close. Very solid fragrance for an excellent price.

Boring scent and extremely weak like most of the other scents I've tried from commodity.
