Aqua Motu Eau de Parfum

Do you like weird? I like weird! This is a super fun scent, and there's really nothing else like it. It's definitely beachy, but there is nothing sweet about it. The sand/sea/salt accords are distinct, but when they mix with the seaweed/mint/immortelle notes they combine to form a kind of marine root beer scent. That minty, sarsaparilla smell with a sandy undertone is an unexpectedly amazing beach smell and I can't stop smelling my arm. People who like "safe" scents are not going to like this, but if you like your perfume to be an adventure, Aqua Motu fits the bill.

In the summer this is a sublime scent. It's a wonderful, close to the skin smell. I've even worn it in the winter when I want to feel the summer sun on my face. I know the ingredients might make one pause before trying it...but goodness, this is just so incredible. Not a hokey beach fragrance...but something rarefied and beautiful. I adore this beyond words. I hope they never stop making it.

This is very similar to the EDT, only the immortelle note is more pronounced--grassy, hay-like with a subtle, dry tobacco-like undertone. I'm really enjoying this rendition too. Salty, sea water, dry woods, dune vegetation, sandy beach--make that hot sand--a little sweaty and delicious. CSP should have named this fragrance Sex on the Beach.

I know acquatics are "passé" but I still really like them. This is a great alternative to Hilde Soliani's "Acquiilssssima" and comes at a fraction of the cost. Kind of "slutty", but in a good way. I just wanted to add that there's a bit of "dawn dish detergent" on the drydown.

It's the most realistic marine perfume out there because it's not a perfumery interpretation of marine notes. It's literally the smell of salty sea water and sand. Add some seaweed. It's not a perfume you wear to smell "good". You wear it because it reminds you the beach (reminds me the beach in northeast Canada). You need to enjoy smelling like that. I actually enjoy it once in a while. It's great during Summertime. Longevity is awesome. I can smell it in my hair the day after.

This is my first perfume with "sand notes". I must say I'm dumbfounded and not sure how to describe it. Well, its sand: not sticky, not sweet, pleasantly dry. Good for summer. I also get lots of immortelle.

This is a beach scent but not a tropical beach! This is Pescadero Beach or Salinas beach scent. Cold, salty, fresh.. the seaweed is so THERE! its really good scent. Can be unisex.

This is one of the odd ones. At first I got pear smell, but then I checked the note pyramid and saw this flower that I've never heard of. It does have that aquatic feel to it, but it's so discrete that I can barely smell it even right in the opening. It's nice to own a decant for experimentation purposes, but this is far from a finished fragrance.

Wow this has a weird opening on my skin - sunscreen, minty bubblegum and celery. I almost scrubbed it of. But the dry down is really nice. Salty, minty, sandy. As others have said there is nothing tropical in this scent. This is a colder, more rugged beach.

As always it is difficult to rate Comptoir's perfumes because they don't really smell like proper perfumes. In this case you get a pleasant smell that indeed reminds you instantly of the sea. However, I don't agree with Lisa (below), who enthuastically comments as if she was warped to the beaches. In fact, I am afraid that is reminds me slightly more of a air refreshener than real beaches. Although quality is present here, I can't wear something like this. **

Yeah...I didn't like this one. Disapponting, as beachy or oceanic scents are my big favorite. I think this is TOO naturalistic for its own good! It's straight up tangy seaweed, sand and briny seawater. It's not 'those notes but polished up a bit and made into a perfume', or 'the perfume is inspired by those notes'... it's just straight up those notes. Brute and harsh! The longevity and silage are both average. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Now call me crazy, but as soon as I smelled this fragrance it reminded me of a softer version of Womanity by Thierry Mugler. I think it's the saltiness of the sand and seaweed. I'm not the biggest fan but I could see how someone would love this!

This brand is slinky. No retail presence here in the USA so a lot of you never even heard of it. Let alone sampled it. (I did ONCE see one of their lesser offerings in Macy*s Backstage - which was Macy*s failed attempt at a T.J. Maxx type store) . I've owned 4 different ones and my assessment is very good indeed. MOTU was my favorite because if you know my taste- I shoot for the "unusual" first . This is unusual ! It smells like 2 very good looking people (either 2 woman / 2 men / or a man and a woman - you pick it) just had sex on the beach and now are just lying in the after-effects of a sandy orgasm. You can smell moist beachy flesh and the sun and sand and the ions from the elements in nature around them . And some of the lubricant used in "the act". LOL. And I mean this in a GOOD WAY , not a gross way like when you see a dried condom baking in a hot parking lot from the night before. If they were lazy - this company WOULD call this one "Sex on the Beach" and then NOBODY would buy it. This is overpriced by like 25% -- it should be a bit cheaper BUT the product has a nice creative quality to it and good projection. And this is not a "novelty scent". It feels deeper than that . It's not so much of a perfume as it is a "warm humanistic sexy smell" . GRADE: A minus. Sorry to say - not a safe blind buy for most of the population . Sucks that you can't just walk into Sephora and sample this for free.

I wanted the straight up real life seawater, but this one fell off in the end.It has a hint of sunscreen in there, which I dont' like, but it’s the same kind of baby oil touch that Acqua di Sale has, and I do like AdS. Aqua Motu is so close it’s almost a dupe of AdS, at first: Salty sea water, the clean kind, no real seaweed, darnit, but nice and then that touch of sunscreen. I could do without the sunscreen element but I don’t mind it. the next time I tried it, however, it dried down as a sticky dusty chemical mess. Not sure if that was skin chemistry or weather, but the difference was enough to make this a silly waste of money for me, with one incarnation pleasant but the other repulsive. I'm at the point in my collecting that I don't want anything I can only wear at certain times. (minus seasonal changes) Nope. Still searching for my perfect Sea Water/Sea Air fragrance.

Aqua Motu is the beach in a bottle. This fragrance is exactly the scent of the walking along the edge of the breaking waves. Even though salt is not mentioned in the notes, it is certainly present...in the best way. The silage and longevity are great. Hours later it is still noticably present. For people like myself that love the smell of the ocean, this is a must!

No need for me to say much, jadejoann4 already hits the major points. If you like beaches north of Santa Barbara this is for you, for a few hours this stuff is very potent with the seaweed the most prominent element on my skin. Longevity 4-5 hours, projection heavy the first two hours before becoming subtle and soft in the drydown.

This is good stuff. Smells like a nice walk at night in the watery sands. There is a bit of tartness and a deep salty note in the background coming from the seaweed . This is very unisex for sure.
