Bois Royal

Very good and when i smelled that for the first time i was inspired to buy that...

A very fresh and spicy woody composition, very elegant. I personally like it much better once I'm past the cumin phase, as I'm not fond of this note. However, I personally don't find it very moving. I have nothing against safer perfumes as I love them myself, but I didn't expect conventionnal smelling scents (by Western standards, I mean) from a collection inspired by the East. That being said, it smells very pleasant. I don't see how this scent could offend anyone (once cumin is gone...).

The umpteenth sample of floor / mosquito repellent cleaner received during an online purchase. It seems that perfumery is drowning with cedar, rose water, geranium and vetiver ... here you have various citrus, cedar, little geranium, (fortunately) earthy vetiver and a lucky benzoin in the middle and in the final that saves the composition. Not for me but if you love notes and the sour and always bitter drydown, skip the line and go directly to Pelargonium by Aedes de Venustas. Better quality and long life. Bois Royal does not even care if the drydown is nice enough on my skin. I will finish my vial on summer evenings on a camping site armed against unwanted insects. Sorry ...

After not wearing Bois Royal for several years I broke it out to attend a sporting event. It was just after sunset and in the low 70° range. An unknown young couple in a row in front of us (but several seats away) yelled over top of the fan noise that they always look forward to my attendance because I am (in their words) a rare pleasant-smelling man. These are people I'd never spoken with and I am NOT a complement hunter. They continued by saying whatever I was wearing had surpassed any of my previous fragrances and they can't wait to smell what I choose for the next game, but they would not be disappointed if I were to repeat my selection. Bois Royal is an extremely pleasant citrus and wood fragrance. The citrus (mainly citron then bergamot) lasts throughout and I don't need to tell fragrance lovers how rare that is. I applied 3 sprays at 4pm (2 to my neck and 1 to a wrist) and when I showered at midnight it was still going strong. Really. Geranium is noticeable for a couple hours once the intense citrus calms, then the cedar and (to a lesser extent) a mild vetiver see it through. I'm certain oakmoss helps give it legs but I don't think I've ever been able to "find" it for any length of time. The amazing play here (as in several other fragrances I love) is between the cumin and benzoin, neither of which allow the other to bring present their lesser-loved facets! I'd say the "reminds" area above is fairly close as to me Bois Royal is for the final 3/4 of its life a combo or layering of Creed Vetiver Geranium and Hermes TdH PARFUM (not the original). That'll get the wearer close, but I prefer Bois Royal to either one and neither Vetiver Geranium nor the TdH Parfum stay as strong or last as long. CSP is mainly a house featuring perfumes enjoyed by women, but this is one of the 3 stars for men along with Vetyver Haiti & the original Eau du Gouvernour. Superb stuff. One last thing... I'm not judging, but I agree with the reviewer just below. I don't understand why every fragrance that is realistic and does not feature sickeningly-sweet citrus notes is described as being "bug spray".

It is always a surprise to me to rad, again and again, harsh opinions about fragrances that: 1) have been tried on and judges only based on experiencing...a vial!😳Even my dog knows that, except you are a « nose » or an expert who creates fragrances, the frag itself must breath and the best way is to spray it on. A vial gives an idea, but....; and 2) everybody is entitled to have a (eventually bad) taste, and this is is fine! Nevertheless, complaining that a perfume is too citric and totally lacks of amberish notes, just because you like amber, is just like complaining that vodka is bad just because you like boubon....I mean, get a session with (your) shrink!🤪 Finally, Bois Royal is an intriguing composition of very tangy and, even, tart citric notes that, - unlike the dry, mysterious and unadorned beauty of Frapin’s Paradis Perdu -, flirt with stronger and sweeter woodsy base notes, which they intend to cheer up. The quality of the original ingredients is exceptional, and the concentration of citric oils is so high that sometimes it tingles your nose, not without an overall calming effect. Evem mosquitos would love this, so beware! Not for the amber-crazy people! Splendid and refreshing!

It's the bitter rawness Club again! How this can hope to capture any widespread appeal is beyond me,, no amber, vanilla anywhere in the compostion, let alone the start to soften/sweeten things up. Really am growing very tired of Parfumiers who think avoiding comforting, cosy openings to follow the Niche crowd of 'green' and other oddities like buckets of saffron, geranium and oud are onto something. Royal woods? Cedar? Like, really? Sandalwood is the very image of royal with it's addictive creamyness/softness yet true woody balance. Another waste of a Niche project imo, sorry. Scent: 3/10. Quality: 8/10.
