Matin Calin

Disclaimer: Dairy is my favorite food group. I love all things milky, creamy, and buttery. Dairy fat tastes like heaven and heavy cream is my ambrosia. So this is the scent of a morning hug. It is beautiful. I can understand the many reviews of dislike, because I imagine most people have no desire to smell like a glass of milk. But I do! Actually, this is too sweet to be a glass of cold milk, but it does contain notes that milk takes when heated. I love the smell of milk and cream and find this perfume to be so comforting. I bought the large bottle for a reasonable price and am happy I did. I have worn this alone and have barely scratched the surface of playing with layering. I can tell you right now, this is a scent I will not go without. Would it be my signature scent that I wear daily? No, but I didn’t buy it to be my signature. I bought this scent to provide comfort and warmth, and that is exactly what it provides. It is an obvious creamy, lactonic scent sweetened like condensed milk. I do pick up facets of buttery vanilla, but it is in a rounded sweetness rather than an actual detectable vanilla note. There is a tiny slight hint of the milkiest sandalwood in the dry down, but really sandalwood is barely perceptible. I have a feeling this would be wonderful layered lightly with a sandalwood to bump up its milkiness. I find the performance (longevity and sillage) to be moderate, which I find as a good thing. The last thing I want is a condensed milk scent the blasts the entire room. If this were stronger it would be more than cloying, it would be choking and quite off putting. This performs exactly how I want a milk scent to be. It gently wraps around you with the softest morning hug that provides both comfort and reassurance. I can hear my grandma saying in my ear, “Now you know grandma loves you. You’re my beautiful blonde baby.” Milk reminds me of childhood, which then reminds me of my grandma who provided safety from the outside world. I miss my grandma and I love this fragrance. Also, I do not get burnt popcorn (thankfully), but I know how creamy scents can go there. I get a lot of popcorn from the coconut scent from Sol de Janeiro (the turquoise one). I can relate to “bottom of the cereal bowl”, but that is also a scent that provides comfort to me. Next, I would LOVE to try a fragrance inspired by the scent of a cold glass of milk. That is an equally lovely, but different from hot milk. A barista once told me it’s the opposite, but I swear milk heated to almost boiling has a much sweeter smell and taste. I love it. So if anyone know of a cold glass of milk scent, please let me know. Also this reminds me of Ave Luxe’s Milk perfume, which is another beautiful rendition of sweetened heated milk.

Can I just write a quick love letter to a fragrance? I have been looking for something that smells like genuine sweet vanilla and condensed milk. Which sounds like a simple enough request..I assure you, it is not. So many perfumes claim these notes and it is nothing but straight up bs and disappointment. But not this one, this is the real deal. She is a warm hug. She is pure, simple comfort. This is the scent of my grandmother's kitchen in the morning when she would warm up the cream for her tea. No florals at all..the only wood (supposedly) is sandalwood, but if it is really there it is buried under a warm bowl of sweetened condensed milk with vanilla bean caviar swirled into it. I have tried them all, phlur, philosophy, snif, etcetera...all of them fell flat. Then she entered the room... Matin Calin from Comptoir sud pacifique✨️✨️ She is a goddess of a perfume. She is love and happiness wrapped in sanctuary 💗 I can't stop smelling my wrist, nor do I have the will to do so. Every scent has its unicorn 🦄 the perfect embodiment of the description, hyper realistic and expertly blended. This is the perfect example of what a cream scent should smell like. No bs, no paid ads filled with lies..just honest and straightforward.

It's the exact scent of warm condensed milk with a dash of sugar steaming on the stove, served with butter cookies and a beloved grandma cluck-clucking over you. The ultimate comfort scent, Matin Calin's intense sweetened milk feel is pure joy: warm jammies, a mug of hot milk and big dollop of love, all in one bottle. Now this I think is the perfect description for me! I'm holiday as I write this and it's been a long and slightly tough day with a less comfortable ending. But as I spray this I do remember my nanna, and it does make me feel loved and warm. I walked a fair way back to the shop for this as I just couldn't forget it. It felt so comforting and reminded me of some of the best memories. Yes, it's sweet, don't get me wrong, to me it is sweetened hot milk or condensed milk warmed. Perhaps the longevity isn't all day but on a bad day it's just what you need, pretentiousness never comforted anyone.

I absolutely hated this at first, my initial impression was sour milk, salt, and hot morning breath. Tried this scent again three months later, fell in love, and now it's one of my favorites to wear at bedtime or just around the house. It smells exactly like a glass of warm milk mixed with caramelized sugar or maybe lightly salted buttery toffee. I agree with a previous review that there's a vague eggy/savory note that mixes so well with the creamy sweet lactonic dessert notes.

To me Matin Calin smells like sugared milk and a light realistic vanilla with some vitamins sprinkled in it.I love sweet and creamy scents when they do not smell artificial or chemical,this is very natural.i love the smell but i hate the staying power.my skin drinks this up in a few minutes.(sigh*)i would give this scent an 8 and the staying power a 2. p.s.I must admit i prefer Demeter condensed milk and it is cheaper.

This is a line I'm very familiar with and have used most every scent. This one, Matin Calin, I didn't like it the first time I got it because at the time it was expensive and I didn't like the idea of smelling like milk but I'm liking it better now and The smell lingers. It's a sweet and fun to wear scent.

It is my bedtime scent. It smells IDENTICAL to evaporated milk with sugar, egg and vanilla. It smells just like FLAN. Its so milky and sweet. The most comforting scent ever. GREAT dupe is Lait Sucre from Pittsburge soap works..EXACTLY THE SAME/

I felt like it lived up to its name, it really smells like a morning hug. Waking up in the morning with a warm glass of milk waiting for you on the kitchen table. Warm, incredibly creamy and and lactonic.

I ordered a sample collection from CSP & this is Delicious! Sweet milky vanilla with a hint of toffee. Wonderful gourmand! Perfect cozy scent for a cold March day....

Sweet milk popcorn. It is perfect. I can easily translate this to a morning breakfast scent. I love this, the milk note is just restrained enough.

If you want to smell like sweet condensed milk, get this! It's totally yummmy! :-)

Buttery condense milk. I looooooove this one!

When I got offered a little decant of Matin Calin in a swap, I decided to try it despite having my doubts. Sure, the note list looked promisingly gourmand, but so did all the other Comptoirs I've tried before and I've had trouble with most of them just because they're a little TOO gourmand for my taste: too sweet, too powerful, too straightforwardly edible. Still, it couldn't hurt to try, because the couple of ones that did work for me are among the best comfort scents I know. Luckily, after some hard going at first, this one falls in that last category as well! The first couple of times I tried Matin Calin I thought this was the worst one yet. It's so incredibly sweet and milky, and so very strong especially at first, that it made me slightly queasy. Even worse, one time I also got that dreaded "celery" smell that I'd only read about in others' descriptions of gourmands, but had never experienced before. So I was all set to write a dismissive review and pass my little decant on, but something happened when I tried it again this morning. Maybe it's because I'm used to it now, or maybe a lazy weekend morning is really the only time this is suited for, as the name suggests, but I suddenly found myself liking it a lot. Instead of bringing to mind (slightly spoiled) milk with sugar, which I definitely don't want to smell like, I was now reminded of Petit Beurre-cookies, as someone else has mentioned. It really smells exactly like those beloved childhood favourites: still sugary sweet, sure, but more buttery than milky, and with a pleasantly burned or rather toasted or caramellised edge to it. Lovely and a trip down memory lane for sure! I'd still never set a foot outside of my apartment wearing this: except maybe for a visit to a kindergarten or nursery, I really don't see any suitable occasions for grownups or even teenagers to wear this. But I'm definitely keeping my little decant now, for some sweet comforting morning nostalgia when it's needed.

I don't dislike it as much as I used to, I actually kind of enjoy it, in a guilty way... which is really strange and funny, because I used to hate this on my skin. I 100% agree with the sentiments shared below--- I got baby puke, baby formula, hot milk skin... It's a hyper-realistic hot milk perfume and in a very uncanny way. Do I still get all of those now? Yes, but it doesn't feel as strong as it used to, somehow. By the way, this is one of CSP most long-lasting and projecting EDT, at least on me. So be warned lol. As of today, I still get hot milk / baby formula stronger than I get baby puke (thank goodness). I get reminded of the latter if I think hard about it (I've babysat my baby nephews and nieces years ago but I still vividly remember the smell of baby vomit). Now, my appreciation of this perfume has changed and as much as I still don't entirely like it on myself, I appreciate the realism. It feels warm and sweet but it has a tinge of sourness I'm not fully on board with. I really like drinking milk, hot or cold. When cold, I love it flavoured or not, sweet or not. When hot however, I absolutely do not like it unsweetened and I very much prefer it AT LEAST slightly flavoured. I don't like the smell of hot, unsweetened milk with no flavour whatsoever. Matin Câlin is an incredibly accurate impression on boiling / hot milk, unflavoured, slightly sweet. I can almost smell the milk foam, it's crazy. This may be the reason why I'm in a weird limbo with this... But again, it's impressive. I think it's a must-try if you're a gourmand / lactonic fragrances lover, just out of sheer curiosity. Also I don't get caramel, unfortunately. If you like Matin Câlin but wish it had way more caramel, you may like Gourmand Bakhoor from Jousset even better. This one also has a realistic milky note but I much prefer this one over MC.

The first frag I bought with my own pocket money was a gourmand: Lait Concentré (Condensed Milk in French) from Eau Jeune, I think. It really smelled like actual condensed milk, in all its tender lactonic and slight vanillic über sweetness glory! Perhaps for nostalgia sake, I've ordered a sample of Matin Câlin. Following my disappointing experience with Vanille Extreme and Vanille Banane, while just alright with Coco Extreme, I didn't have much expectations. What a pleasant surprise! It smells very good and realistic, exactly like condensed milk. Even better because I don't find it excessively sweet or sticky. Soon after dry down, I got a familiar, cosy breakfast whiff. It took me a minute to figure out it came from Matin Câlin! Some additional wheaty notes came out: toasts slightly buttered and browned out on the edges. I assume this is the caramel (furans? Pyrazines?) that adds that nice toasted bread layer. Longevity is correct: 6 hours later, smooth condensed milk still lingers on my skin. Greatly enjoyable to wear but not sure it worths the price tag. I'm curious to know how it compares to the cheaper Demeter's Condensed Milk.

Huh. As a big fan of lactonic fragrances, I was sure I'd love this one when I get my hands on it. Turns out my skin is probably not what this frag needs to perform the way it's intended to. It's milky, but super dry. The sandalwood makes for a woody, dry note that sticks out so much that it's barely on gourmand territory for me. I was prepared for this to be probably too sweet, but it's the other way around. Interesting, but not what I was looking for or expecting from this, unfortunately. If you know your skin instantly turns everything less sweet, and you want something super milky and dessert-like, look into Chabaud Lait Concentre instead - that's straight up condensed milk without any other notes. Unfortunately, that one is way pricier, though. UPD as of Summer 2025: Learned from friends that the older releases smell exactly like it should, and I managed to get a decant. It's perfect! Sweet, milky, warm scent of something like caramelized oatmeal or pudding. Very foody and very cozy.

Yes! I get the smell of pineapple first on, too, so it's not just me. Then it goes to a sweet vanilla and something that makes this smell a little like coffee (I think it's the sandalwood.) As I sniff my morning latte, there are definite similarities. This is really, really light and gentle. I am wearing a sample of it, and have used up the whole thing today to even smell it past an hour - literally poured the whole sample on. I have never had to do that with a sample before to get a lasting whiff. Occasionally, a generic sweet, warm and creamy vanilla smell will waft up, but overall it just has very little potency. I like it, but it's just not worth the cost.

Wow, this definitely smells like hot sweet milk with a lot of sugar. It radiates a sense of warmth and comfort for me. I can see the sugar, I can almost taste it. After a few minutes, though, it has changed quite a lot. Someone else mentioned that this smelled burnt on them - and I get that. There is a warm, toasty note here, but it doesn't smell bad to me. To me it smells like creme brulee, or sweet buttered bread. I really love this, even though it's pretty straight forward and not all that unique. It's very very comfortable and sweet. I will be buying this.

Reading these reviews, I'm kind of glad I have no idea what a baby's burp smells like. To me this smells like sweet milk, peaches, and a little vanilla. It's warm and cozy, slightly synthetic, but not overly so, and not in a bad way. It's such a strange fragrance, I've never smelled anything else like it. I have a decant of this, and I don't think I'd buy a full size, but if they made a pillow spray or something, I'd totally get it and use it every day. Sits very close to the skin, and lasts a long time. I can't stop smelling my wrist.

Milky sweet fragrance which kind of evokes breakfast memories. Basically it's just milk and sugar. I can see why some people connect this to breast milk or powdery baby milk as well... However this fragrance is so light that after 5 minutes It barely can be detected on my skin. If I wouldn't buy it in a serious perfume shop I would think somebody would have tricked me watering it down. I recommend to try it on your skin before purchasing it, better if you sample it in a vial otherwise you can get extremely disappointed.

Some of the reviews of this fragrance scared me & it, admittedly, took me a while to figure out what I was smelling when I first sprayed it. But this smells exactly like a warm, buttery croissant & is delightfully cozy. It layers great with any jammy fruity fragrance. I paired it with the Vanille Abricot from the same brand & it was like a warm scone with apricot jam & clotted cream. All I was missing was the cup of tea!

Apparently Matin Calin means morning hug, which is appropriate as I find this has an aroma of hot buttered toast with hints of suedey vanilla, chocolate and something dry, sweet and brittle like those hazelnut wafers you get in coffee shops. In the drydown I get tiny hints of hot milk, but with that burnt toasty notes through out. nice but very faint on my skin and even on my clothes and longevity not great either ;(

I was a little afraid after reading a couple of the reviews, but I don't get baby formula smell, or even much of a milk smell at all, but rather a delicious crême brulée, like crunchy carmelized sugar and cream. And it smells toasty-buttery too, not just sweet, it's the first caramel I've really liked. I love it! So cozy and cuddly! Update: The lasting power could be better. I still love it though.

This smells exactly like Chabaud Lait Concentre. If I had known that I wouldnt have bought since I have Chabaud. Kind of disappointing since the notes on Comptoir Sud Pacifique hinted at more vanilla and more sweetness rather than just a pure lactonic scent.

It's a warm and cozy scent that lingers very close to your skin. I like it because it reminds me of butterscotch or dulce de leche. I can feel milky and sugary notes with a slight pinch of salt. The only drawback is it's nearly non-existant lasting power.

First notes are real sgushenka, as already said below) Sweet-sweet sticky milk boiled with sugar. Then it becomes more interesting - less sweet, a thin hint of sour note, which gives sandalwood. Im not sure if I will wear it, bought it just for fun.

I liked this but it was unfortunatey extremely weak and short lived .. I would need to use a lot to enjoy !!

My skin plays VERY nicely with vanillic and lactonic fragrances, so please take this into account. This is the third of three CSP samples purchased directly from their site. Fresh this smells EXACTLY like preparing rice krispie treats, just as the marshmallow starts melting into the hot butter. It smells exactly the same at 5 & 30 minutes, and 1 & 2 hours. It literally never changed. By 2 hours, it was a skin-scent. This was unexpectedly my least of the three samples I tried. It was the one I was most excited to try, and yet somehow didn't live up to my hopes. I didn't smell milk, I smelled butter. For being a vanillic fragrance, I never smelled more than the tiniest hint of vanilla. And the sandalwood mentioned on the sample card was missing on my skin. It was a pleasant smell, but I was hoping for vanilla and milk – not butter and marshmallows. If you, however, happen to absolutely adore cereal bars... this would be PERFECT!

I noticed that toffee isn’t listed in the notes, but according to Comptoir sud Pacifique the correct notes are: ”candy sugar, toffee, milk, vanilla pod and sandalwood”. These were listed in the tester packaging. This is a lactonic toffee perfume! Toffee really is the most noticeable note here so if you don’t like toffee this one isn’t for you. I was surprised when I smelled it because I was expecting a sugary vanilla milk scent! I don’t find it horrible, just not what I was looking for. So I think the notes here should be updated. The reason why some people are saying it smells sour, salty or like popcorn is due to the toffee note which does start to turn a bit like salted caramel once this sits on your skin for a while. Personally I would not buy it due to the saltiness after testing it out.

First when I tried this perfume it’s smelled like some condensed milk, very nice, gourmand sweet and I thought would be perfect for cold weather wrapped in cosy knits. I went to a baby shower party wearing it and all day I could smell like a melted buttered croissant dough which is ready to go into the oven. Condensed milk for me for some reason completely disappeared. I found that buttered dough smell quite unpleasant on me all day. It’s like you’ve been cooking and your clothes infiltrated with that cooking smell. Didn’t receive any compliments... a bit disappointing to my nose.

Photorealistic sweetened condensed milk .. 100% warm, sweetened condensed milk. It’s uncanny and a little unsettling how spot-on it is! It’s even got those toasty and sour notes that come from hot milk. Fairly linear, but it does get more syrupy with wear. If you’re wanting a straight, sweetened condensed milk scent, I really don’t think you’d be disappointed! To me, it’s more of a novelty, especially when worn alone. I can imagine this being an amazing mixer, though.

The first thing that came to my mind when testing this was "buttered popcorn", but then I read another reviewed say "buttered toast" and yep, that's about what i get. It was a bit sweeter at first, but now that it's settled, the primary note is something that interpret as butter. Definitely one that would need to be tested before buying, so that you can see if you like this type of scent that others interpret as buttered toast, hot milk, or baby spit-up.

As a huge fan of Lactonic scents, that’s what I was expecting when I purchased this. The reviews here and on the company’s website highlight the milk and toffee notes. While it does have some milky notes, whatever the sugar note is, it smells very fruity. Reminds me of Pink Sugar. It smells young to me. My son who is 13 (and whose scent preferences lean more to feminine/unisex) LOVES IT. I’m glad it will get some wear, but definitely not by me.

This is almost like Lait Concentré by Chabaud but a lot less sweet and a lot more nauseating. Not a fan !

a friend of mine had this fragrance and she wanted to get rid of it because she got bored with it. as I am a fan of milk in fragrances, I was determined to inherit Marin Calin (and I got infatuated by it's notes). boy, am I glad I got to test it first because the promise of vanillary milk on my skin turned to milk that spent far too long on an overheated stove - it smelled like overtly sweetened milk that got burned! it wasn't just my impression, I had second opinions on this (and it was not rancid, on my friend it smelled lovely - creamy, full fat milk boiled with Bourboun vanilla). this is just another tragic story how a (blind) love towards some fragrance can be ruined by mismatch in body chemistry but still.. so sad, so true... my advice: do try before you buy!

Bizarre. I don’t get it. This is a review from one initial wearing, never to be repeated. My unsolicited sample arrived with another on line purchase. I’m confused about the target demographic, and why someone would want to smell like artificially flavored buttered popcorn with a side of warmed condensed milk. One of the most hideous scents I’ve had the displeasure to smell. It’s not intriguing, it’s not sexy, it’s simply gross. If someone tries to give you a sample, walk away. Fast.

I love gourmands and I was excited to try this out. Now that I've tried to wear it a couple times, some of the things I see in the reviews are very fitting. To my nose: hints of stale buttery popcorn, milk, sugary, dusty toasted oat cereal, and perhaps most evocative of all --chemical plant fertilizer, like walking into your local Walmart's lawn and garden center. An impressively hideous gourmand.

This started out SAUWEEEER (sour) milk. It took a long time for it to dry down a bit more creamy on my skin and on paper it stayed sour for longer. I understand the condensed milk comparison but the sourness stays too long for me to even want to recommend it to others.

Bought a small decant to try it out, loved it on the bottle and in the air specifically the creamy notes. With time on my skin it just smells like baby vomit, milky but slightly rancid - doesn't really last since it is and EDT.

i'm so BUMMED cuz i really wanted to love this, it's been on my wishlist for so long but all i get is rancid sour milk in the opening then it just turns to a really plain caramel. not my thing

A disappointing reformulation of my all time love, Lait Sucre. There's a strong note of burnt caramel in here that just ruins it for me. Sadly, a scrubber.

I think I can safely estimate that I’ve tried over 1000 fragrances over the course of my journey (12+ years) and I’m not being dramatic nor exaggerating when I say I think this is one of the worst fragrances I’ve ever smelled. It’s top 10 for sure. What I get when I apply this, to my horror, is hot vomit. It’s not milk unless it’s milk that’s already been consumed and came back up through the digestive system. And I’ve smelled baby vomit having children of my own, those whose attributes this scent to baby vomit were being generous to this fragrance and also insulting to babies everywhere. This smells like my four year olds vomit. There’s nothing sweet or creamy to this milk, it’s full on curdled. I try desperately to push through this odor to find any redeeming quality and I do get a slight wheat element (I guess that’s where others are describing cereal are coming from) but to get there I have to swim through the lactonic barf and it makes my own stomach turn. I made the first horrible mistake of blind buying this from an overseas retailer because it was a great deal, much cheaper than other CSP fragrances can be found online (and now I know why). The second was applying this for the first time, on skin mind you, moments before heading off to bed. And now I can’t sleep, I had to come write this review to warn anyone else out there seeking this out and visiting this page: please beware. Maybe procure a sample first, if even that. If I can ever drift off to sleep tonight, I’m sure I’ll have some interesting nightmares.

I like most CSP perfumes but this is awful. Maybe my nose is weird but it smells like tropical fruit with yeast and an undertone of sour milk. Usually I can dismiss a perfume as "nice, but not for me." I honestly don't understand how anyone can like this. Curious to smell it on someone else - maybe it's better?

It smells exactly like someone spilled cereal on me! I don’t know how this is so popular. I think it’s truly amazing how disgusting this is.

Matin Calin ... For me, it was love at first sniff. I received this in a sample vial (thank you kunihime), and it had thoughtfully been chosen for me based on looking at my wardrobe and what notes I might like. I am so grateful for that. Oh... when I close my eyes and smell this... it is like I am at home on a cold and rainy day, wearing sweats and and draped in a fuzzy blanket, holding a steaming mug of milk - in which my mother adds a generous spoonful of condensed milk, and gives the simple concoction a good stir - I take a deep whiff of it..... and that is the smell of Matin Calin. Comfort and loving warmth in a bottle. I wanted to lick my wrist, it smelled so mouthwateringly delicious. This was my initial impression, just from dabbing my wrists. I knew I had to have the full bottle. My friend bought me the bottle for me after hearing me talk about what a comfort it was to me and how much I loved it - I have my own bottle --- and here is what I think about spraying it on myself versus dabbing: A word of caution to anybody who buys a full bottle of this after sampling it from the vial - In my opinion it is best to hold the bottle a good arms length away from your body when you spray it on you, in order to get the best-smelling results. Too close to your skin and what you get initially is a buttered-toast smell, with the toast slightly burnt and still warm. (Not bad either, in my opinion!) From the vial the burnt smell is not noticeable because it is only a small amount that you are applying on yourself versus the concentrated spray that comes from the bottle. Otherwise, this is absolutely wonderful. Although not pragmatic for everyday wear, (unless you want to always smell like a mug of sweet milk) Matin Calin is truly wonderful, and a great comfort scent to have.

I am a big admirer of Comptoir Sud Pacifique, not always because their scents are what I thought they would be, but because of their packaging, concept, descriptions and attitude towards exotic. Matin Calin was a blind purchase. I found the sandalwood to be definitely there, along with milk but not cream or butter, mind you. The milk note in matin calin is almost skimmed, without the rich aromas of cream, with a definite raw, organic sourness that reminds me of milk that's just about to turn sour. This sourness is balanced quite nicely by vanilla sugar. Yes, it doesn't last long, but as the time passes and the top notes settle it becomes more soothing and comforting, like the mug of very hot milk you hold between your hands and under your nose just before you go to bed at night. Not my favorite CSP but I like the idea of owning it, might even be good for layering underneath other gourmands Edit: two days after my initial trial, I have to come back and say I love it! The sourness is ever so slight and the sandalwood and milk form a divine concoction. Just like a milk bath and shampoo I used a few years back that got discontinued... Don't care, I have my matin Calin now!
