Vanille Ambre

Vanille Ambre is my first and so far only CSP fragrance, and I look forward to possessing more from their line. I've wanted one of their fragrances forever and I was not disappointed. I was given VA as a gift from my spouse, I was so pleased he knew what I wanted :) I have always loved Vanilla and the idea of an Amber combination was irresistible. Initial impression is always I feel barely worth a mention with these types of fragrances because the magic lies in the warming, absorption from the skin. These are true "skin" scents as should be the case with "tropical" climates. You don't want something that is going to disappear as soon as it is applied. Fresh tropical breezes, brilliant sunshine, surf and sand is imagery instantly conjured in the mind. Much easier that obtaining a pass to paradise :) The patchouli and amber meld deliciously, with the vanilla leading the pack, I find the scent is superb. Longevity is very good, lasts for a long time on my skin, 5+ hours, the sillage is noticeable but really it is an "in close" scent. I would recommend this fragrance to anyone who loves Vanilla and Patchouli. The Amber is part and parcel with the Patchouli so I wouldn't say buy this if you are an Amber lover specifically. In one word "mezmorizing" :)

Vanille Ambre opens up with warm, inviting, ooey-gooey vanilla sweetness, gently kissed with a dry, tawny amber, then lightly dusted with soft white musk. As it develops I get a beautiful patchouli note that further tempers the sweetness and grounds it with dense earthiness. The more I wear it the more I pick up muted hints of LDDM by Tauer Perfumes, not a dupe by any stretch, but just a subtle nod toward the dryer, dustier amber present in the famous "Tauerade". Like the old cereal commercial, the kid in me loves the creamy, dessert-like vanilla side, while the adult in me loves the more arid, substantial earthiness of the amber side. The first time I wore this I was ready to declare Vanille Ambre a simple, delicious vanilla, but with repeat wearings it has rewarded me with some quiet nuances that I'm glad I patiently discovered.

Vanille Ambre is a wonderful scent! It’s a mix of CSP’s traditional vanilla, amber and patchouli that smells almost like chocolate. In the beginning the patchouli note is quite strong, but it gets softer after an hour, though it will never disappear. That’s what makes the scent so balanced and not too sweet or overpowering. It’s a simple fragrance, but that’s the beauty of it. It’s very comforting and cozy. I love it!

Mmmmmmmm! Smells like what vanilla cake batter taste, sweet and creamy. Silage is arms length, longevity is about 6 to 8 hours. I would definitely have to layer this with my Bath and Body Works Vanilla Bean Noel Body Cream to give it more staying power and silage. It also reminds me of Cotys' Vanilla Fields but it's less synthetic and not as strong. More of a natural vanilla scent.

This is a warm, sweet, hug. The vanilla is laced with a very light musk note as it envelops amber and the two merge into the smell of sanctuary, and love. I have a very emotional reaction to this scent as it whispers to me "I know times are tough, but everything is going to be ok." <3 I have my main large bottle as a back up, just incase they reformulate or discontinue.

I purchased this at a significant discounted price and as a blind buy. At first spray, I was disappointed by the strong bitter note that I classify as "old lady." However, after the "old lady" fades away, the dry down is mysterious, beautiful and addicting!I love catching a whiff when I pass through a gentle breeze. It's a comforting scent and perfect for fall!

This is my favorite everyday bedtime perfume. Its warm soft and sweet and isn't offensive at all. This scent beats CSP vanille abricot as my favorite of theirs.

Simply 4 notes well blended very vanilla amber on me. I really like it!

A lovely, simple scent - exactly what you would expect. This is a soft, warm vanilla with resinous undertones from the amber. It’s not overwhelmingly sweet or thick, and stays pretty close to the skin. Recommended for those seeking a simple vanilla scent. In contrast to other popular, simple vanilla scents (such as The Body Shop Vanilla), I find CSP Vanille Ambre softer, less sweet, and more interesting with its resiny base. It actually reminds me a lot of Prada Candy's drydown. But it lacks that bitter, green, and citrusy quality that Candy has from the higher concentration of resins. Although this is more linear than Candy, I prefer it. It also lasts longer on my skin than Candy. At this point, I don’t find it unique enough that I want to buy a full bottle, but it is another enjoyable scent from CSP.

This is a great gourmand, which might not be obvious when judging by the notes. I find it very dense and creamy, sweet but not in an artificial way; it has a mature vibe that I find really alluring. Whenever I smell it, I think of a very fat cocoa powder or a rich dark chocolate. It’s definitely far from the smell of mixed vanilla and amber oil: the musk is quite prominent and creates this cocoa-powderness, while the patchouli adds a bit of bitterness to the very sweet vanilla. Whenever I wear it, I get a lot of compliments, but not only about smelling beautiful - I am told I also smell original. What can I say... Even if they said the opposite, I would still love it just the same!

Very similar to Montale Vanilla Extasy, I would almost call them twins. The beginning of Vanille Ambre is different than Montale by the amber notes, which are quite proeminent, but after the dry-down settles - which is quite fast - it is almost identical to Montale. It has a good silage and good staying power. Needless to say that Comptoir Vanille Amber falls in the gourmand-patisserie category, so if you know you are into this, definitely don't miss this one.

I made the mistake of eating fish and brussel sprouts in my office. In my desperation to cover the scent, I sprayed my Vanille Ambre in 4 spots of the room (it's a shared office with 6 others) and received lots of compliments when people came through. Everyone said it smells like cakes (not the fish or crab variety (; ) and enjoyed it. Sillage and Longevity on this perfume are also great. I am slightly scent sensitive and this one isn't cloying to me at all.

Absolutely true to its name and the pyramid, very simple and straight-forward. The patchouli and amber appear to be perfectly blended together on my skin. The vanilla is gourmand, like in all CSP's Vanille EDTs, but it smells a bit less synthetic. Overall, it's a very nice fragrance for patchouli and amber lovers. It smells very unisex too, and not juvenile at all.

5)Not too sweet, no sugar, no cheap amber... Hoho! the Comptoir begins to make fine fragrances? but what happens? Have they hired a perfumeur? Very nice elegant and natural vanilla, a fresh clove who last a eternity on clothes. It's the only good one of this brand so don't miss it.

Oh I am so, SO relieved to see all the reviews mentioning apricot. It's not listed in the "official" notes above, so I was doubting my nose when I first came to do my review. I've tried this several times over a couple years and *every* time, this is 100% apricot shisha (the flavored, highly sweetened, almost candied tobacco that goes in a hookah/narguile.) I agree w Faubel... I like *both* Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille and Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée. Those two remind me of each other. They both persist as dry, almost "pure" unsweetened vanilla. Whereas CSP's vanilla here is very VERY sweet, like a cake. Kinda fun, almost gourmand. Personally, I find this to be a very "warm" fragrance and think this is better suited for Fall/Winter weather. However, the right body chemistry/skin might be able to really pull out the fruitiness and make this work in Spring/Summer as a tropical fragrance as well.

Rue_de_la_roux put it perfectly: "Upon first spray I remembered why I don't care for CSP's vanillas. CSP does vanilla very sweet, very sugary. Their vanilla isn't a rich one, it's more like a sugar cube, less vanilla-like to me. If it had a color it would be white, rather than amber or brown." It brings to mind Molinard's Vanilla Patchouli, but I haven't smelled that one in years. Most vanillas appeal to me, but especially the woody ones like Spiritueuse Double Vanilla and Vanille Insensée. Those to me are true vanilla scents. I also like the ones that smell more literally like cake batter. Vanille Ambre just hits my nose kind of harshly, seems thin, not creamy or resinous or rich. But it is super duper sweet. I remember feeling similarly about Vanille Apricot. And for that matter, Mancera Roses Vanille.

Shalimar is the ancestor but Vanille Ambre is much more casual and laid back. It also smells like candies very much. To its advantage I will say that it's not the foody, cookie like vanilla that otherwise figures in CSP:s fragrances. Lasting power abot 6h on my skin.

This is a nice scent but not a favorite for me. The opening is a little harsh for just a few minutes, but then mellows. It reminds me of CSP Vanille Apricot, with much, much less citrus but just a hint of it (not listed but I smell it). It also starts to remind me of Ambre De Nepal's clean, soft, "dry" (not too sweet) amber. If you mixed the two (CSP Vanile Apricot with about 95% less apricot) and added a touch of clean, soft (not harsh, dirty or musky, it's a clean, soft scent) patchouli and musk. I don't like either note if it's too "dirty" or harsh, but it's smooth and clean in this. If you don't like those notes in general, you might not mind them in this. In drydown it has the dry, powdery clean amber of Ambre De Nepal, but the vanilla (not a plain vanilla, it's very similar to CSP Vanille Apricot) is there too. It reminds me of the old American candy "Tootsie Roll" (the smell but without the chocolate note, otherwise very similar). It's nice but I'd have liked a cleaner vanilla. Citrus notes are not noted, but it's a watered, toned down version of CSP vanille Apricot to my nose and I'd have prefered it not to be there. If you like both of those scents (if you don't like CSP Vanille Apricot, skip this one) you might like it. It's really a nice, soft scent that's not too sweet or to dry.

I blind-bought a bottle based on the many positive reviews saying it smells like cake. I hate writing a negative review but unfortunately I had a very different experience. On my skin the vanilla combined with the amber is very strong, dry and resinous, not sweet at all. It seems like the amber overpowers and kills all of the sweetness of the vanilla. I also own Vanille Abricot and adore that, but sadly this one in a big NO for me. GREETINGS FROM THE CZECH REPUBLIC! :)
