Sulmona

I absolutely adore this fragrance! In the opening and mid I smell a super sweet marzipan paste with a heavy dose of almond extract. The almond extract in this composition will knock your socks off - it’s stronggg. What’s interesting is that in the dry down I no longer get the almondy marzipan scent. Instead I smell Trident’s pink bubblegum - *specifically Trident*. Sugary powdery goodness! This smells soo similar to Sulmona Essenza but this one is much stronger, sweeter, richer, and has an oilier texture while Sulmona Essenza is powdery - think of confectionary sugar - it’s lighter and fluffy in texture. I know I’m going to go through this like water... I need to grab a back up bottle! For those who are interested in picking up this fragrance I would suggest picking up the newer packaging (the one shown on fragrantica) because in the older packaging there is no actual cap to cover the atomizer. It’s just a cardboard box lid that covers the bottle.

Sweet, candied almonds!! Yes!!! Love, love, LOVE!!

First blast of honeyed almond and orange blossom. Warm, sweet, powdery, nutty, delicious, comforting. Turns more creamy as it dries down only making it more lovely. To me, this is a lazy day in the warm sun all in one bottle. I find the almond note to be well done, not synthetic like you'd find in other almond lotions and soaps. Unisex but leans feminine and I'd say would work well year round, as long as you don't go too heavy in the summer. 6+ hours later: A moderately strong, sweet creamy almond scent remains. Great longevity with this one.

A strange development from opening to dry down. The opening to me is disgusting, with a lot of synthetic almond. This makes place very fast (<15 min) for a bitter kind of Orange blossom, which reminds me of Lancome's O de L Orangerie. Not bad, as I like O de L Orangerie, but with this strange strong almond opening, it is a no go for me.

ah. This is the kind of almond scent I don't like. I have been exploring the almond note recently, a note I thought I really disliked when I first started my fragrant adventures - I associated it with harsh, bitter, medicinal, even with infection to some degree. Basically, I had some pretty negative connotations and links in my mind and was wary. Then I "discovered" Mandorlo di Sicilia, it took me a couple of tries but I have fallen for it now, I realised my old beloved Lucky Day had almond, and I loved L'instant Magic, L'amandiere, KM Loukhoum, My Queen etc and loved them all! So I thought maybe I was totally wrong and almond is a sure fire winner! It isn't. Sulmona contains the almond note I dislike - bitter, antiseptic, synthetic, medicinal. It reminds me of medicated hand soaps, disinfectant, really not pleasant things. I cannot quite place the *exact* thing I am connecting with this but I think it is a medicated soap in the public toilets! Anyway, if you like these kind of bitter medicinal almond notes this might work for you. But this, I don't think it is at all sweet. The back story of "magic world of sweets and fairy tales and evokes the best days of our lives."...er no, unless the best days of your lives were falling over when playing out and being taken into the public convenience to wash your bleeding knee! I am not really getting any vanilla, if there is orange blossom it isn't like any I am used to, and no sugar for me :( Really disappointed, I had high hopes. I will definitely give it another go under different conditions, maybe in winter rather than summer (British summer, which doesn't really count does it!) or maybe it would layer with something else? I so want it to work! I am tempted to have a go at dabbing a little on underneath my L'instant edt which is so soft to see if it creates a l'instant magic vibe? reasonable longevity and sillage, nothing amazing but respectable enough.

I wish "Burning Plastic Doll Head" was listed in the fragrance notes so I could tick that box. This starts out very sweet from the vanilla and sugar but there is a synthetic note reading plastic to my nose and it smells very similar to the opening of Montale Amandes Orientales, which I find a challenging fragrance. This is no sweet Cara/Jordan Almond type of scent. It's an overwhelming, bittersweet orange blossom on me. Once the plastic burns off its smells pithy and bitter with an Orange creamsicle backdrop. So many sweet almond scents have this combination of bitter orange, orange blossom, petigrain or neroli in them and almond will always lose the competition. Not a safe blind buy. Thumbs down for me.

This reminds me of a Mr. Sketch marker. It's that almond smell that smells super artificial? That scent/taste makes my throat feel like it's closing, oddly enough. I'm not allergic to nuts or anything, so it's a strange reaction. But the strong, fake almond smell is super overpowering.

I didn't like this at all because it gave the same video as Love Don't Be Shy. I don't know why I thought I could go for another orange blossom vanilla. I'll never order a fragrance with those two notes together ever again 😅

Starts out promising with vanilla and almond, but later on orange blossom interferes too much in order to enjoy it.

Disclaimer: This is my review of how the fragrance plays out in MY nose and on MY skin. That's it and that's all. With that being said... ...Hateful, horrid stuff. I could never have expected such a profoundly negative reaction from a scent that, at worst, threatened to be a little boring. Even the promise of uninteresting simplicity didn't deter me from trying this out because, well, it still sounded delicious. Some things are just plain GOOD without any gimmicks or tricks involved. So I had hopes for this one. But, no. I can't begin to explain why, but from the moment I uncapped my decant, I was unhappy. And not just disappointed, but actually UNHAPPY. I think it was the thought of the money I'd spent for it... But I tried it on my skin anyway, still hoping. After all, fragrances do change. This changed for the worse. The way it developed on my skin is indescribable, but let it suffice to say I was nauseated and after only a few minutes had no choice but to go and scrub it off. And the most ridiculous part about all this is that...IT BARELY SMELLED LIKE ANYTHING. It wasn't overpowering...it was just wrong. I don't know why. But don't be discouraged if this is something YOU want to try. In fact, I have my 3ml decant available if someone would like it. PM me.

It's a MAYBE for me! I'm not able to enjoy this fragrance on its own; however, it did layer well for me w/ another sweet gourmand/pastry fragrance. I layered with: Maiora Parfum's Phraenesya Pastiera (aka Maiora Parfum's Frennesia). The initial wear test (w/ just Sulmona) was definitely not a beautiful and delicious almond fragrance for me...it was a slightly almond-ish fragrance, with an artificial/cleaning agent smell, and an "orange" overtone. I planned on selling this but ended up trying it again (by layering it) - I found that the opening was still undesirable. But the mid/dry down this time was sweet, warm, delightful and scrumptious! I got a light and powdery almond fragrance, w/ just the right amount of sweetness, and a delicate orange blossom side note that just worked! With layering, this is wonderful. To just have as an "easy reach," it doesn't work for me.

Okay, loving this one. Before reading the notes I wrote: Goes on butterscotch and frankincense, then violets come in. It’s like sweet tarts! At the very end it’s smokey. Looking at the notes now, I see that the violets are orange blossom in their sweet tart form. I never get identifiable almond, but it’s quite nice anyway, and I did think of mixing my own version (again before seeing the notes) by mixing orange blossom, vanilla and almond. It’s candy all the way, but never gets cloying on me or little girlish.

I was sent samples of the first four fragrances by the company when they first started up and I have to say I wasn't impressed by any of them - they all felt overly sweet and quite amateur. I ended up using them in the bath, Sulmona included. It smelt more like something you should put on your food than on your body.

This is amazing! Sweet almond goodness! I love it!
