Les Muses

Les Muses technically came out in the 80s but it's not really an 80s perfume, it's a reformulation of Muse from the 40s and to me it bears a family resemblance to the aptly named original of the family, L'Origan. The florals are strong and persistent and dominant over the amber base, just like L'Origan. I hope to sample Muse someday too.

Bought this beautiful fragrance in Adelaide in the late 1980s along with two other Coty reissues of the time - Chypre and La Rose Jacqueminot - all reminders of some of the great achievements of that company. Sadly no longer available, although I have seen reports suggesting that quality reconstructions of a number of Coty's greatest perfumes including these and Emeraude, have been made in recent times by the likes of Daphne Bugay and Aurelian Guichard, but presumably taken no further.

This is back when drugstore scents were high quality. Les Muses was an exquisite powdery, floriental descended from L'Origan! This fragrance has some of my favorite packaging ever. The bottle, the name, the box.. The scent - just beautiful. I wish some of these old scents were still around.

Nice soft powdery floral. If compared to the original Muse however sadly it fails miserably :( Missing the animalic musk, heavy dose of honey and beautiful classical very dense floral bouquet.
