Nokomis

Oh! Nokomis!!! Idk if you were named after Florida or “daughter of the moon”, but I loved & adored you! I can't believe this soft powdery floral was taken off of the market. What a shame. This scent was a miracle for the price point & smelled MUCH more luxurious & expensive that what it cost. As another reviewer said, it is similar in feel, depth & composition to Avon's Far & Away in that it has that bit of lush creamy tropical flowers & coconut smell going on. But there is a deep spicy element to the scent as well which solidly grounds the scent and makes it easily wearable for all seasons. I also feel that it is similar to the scent called "Incognito" which I believe debuted around the time. If you are lucky enough to find this elusive scent grab it! It is so hard to find. :) Cheers!

I'm glad to see that Nokomis is finally listed on here. I used to really love this but now its discontinued so I barely see it anymore aside from on Ebay. The price that people list it for on there is almost robery though lol I think Far Away from Avon is almost exactly the same so if you like the scent Nokomis and can't find it,buy some Far away from avon. I really think Avon must have copied the Coty scent or either way around because even the bottle feels and looks similar minus the black tassle on Avons Far away. Both are great scents. Coty always takes away the good scents and leaves us with some not so great scents. I hope they bring this one, and ICI back :)

My first fragrance at age eleven. I received this as a Christmas present (begging my mom to buy it for me at Sears) alas! I have pictures wearing this perfume on New Year's Day. THIS IS STERLING SILVER AND/OR PLATINUM; NO GEMS NECESSARY. I really want it now as there is no comparison to it. Perfumes really had power back in the day like an extension of someone's personality. This is so fancy without putting on a show and was so affordable! What happened to the best of the best? These iconic perfumes disappeared off the shelves without reason to consumers. And here people are buying body sprays or floral water... COTY, I MISS YOU!!

I have always loved Nokomis. What a shame that it's impossible to find anymore. Why does Coty do this? Coty - please bring this back!!! It's a lovely oriental. Had lots of compliments when I would wear this. Was not crazy about the bottle tho - a bit hard to spray. But if it was availabe again, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Update: Wearing this today. Other reviewers have noted this as sweet but it is not sweet on me at all. Musky. Feminine. A little sexy.

I'm glad to see this perfume has been added. I remember getting the gift set as a birthday present when it came out. I loved it but never truly appreciated it's beauty and now, it's impossible to find for a reasonable price. This frag was indeed a true oriental and had super longevity and sillage and I remember getting compliments galore from others when I would wear it. I actually miss it dearly and I wish Coty would bring it back. Pleeeease!!!

Honey, tuberose, old pee. I kind of like it though. It's pulpy, sweet, and gorgeously white-floral. A news article interviewing staff from Coty in 1996 lists the notes as follows: The top notes include moonflower, iris, heliotrope, peach, plum and raspberry. The middle notes are narcisse, damascenia rose, ylang ylang, orange flower and jasmine, and the base notes include sandalwood, vetiver, tonka bean, patchouli, amber and musk.

Big White Floral, Big Sillage. Has the creamy quality of a higher end perfume. I am not a big white floral lover, but I do like this one. I would say off hand that this is nicer than Giorgio, maybe it is the peachy tone. I cannot detect the woods, pretty much a pure floral for me. Not bad though, and does not seem to have the cloying tendancies of the more modern ones.

I'm so happy to see this here. I went through a few bottles of this back in the day. It was powdery, sweet, and warm, a true oriental. I'd say sandalwood was the prominent note, with subtle hints of peach and floral. Although I think of it as a comfort scent, it had sillage. Another one that's been sadly discontinued. I'd buy this in a minute if they brought it back.

I have had a sample of this beautiful perfume for a year or two and every time I use it--just need two dabs-- I am in awe and enraptured by Nokomis! Soooo gorgeous and smells sexy, nostalgic and cozy all at the same time. I just want to sniff my arm constantly when I wear it.

I absolutely loved this perfume. It seems that Coty always gets rid of the good ones. I am so happy to have found MMMM by Juliet Has A Gun. It smells almost identical to the way I remember Nokomis.

I miss this so very much! I wish it would come back! Great perfume, one of a kind.

I WHAT IT BACKKKKKKKK LOVE THIS ONE

This was my favorite fragrance in my teens. Did not clash with my chemistry. Strong, so only a little dab went a long way, for a very long time. I don't remember ever suffering headaches when I wore it, but then again I have become far more sensitive as the years pass by. The bottle was fun to hold, a lovely texture. And the name was memorable. It really is a shame that we lost this one.

I truly adored this perfume a while back. As Radchick sais: a true oriental. I was wondering what Burberry for Women made me think of: a mix of Nokomis with a bit of Fancy Love! I would gladly get another if I could find it. It was such a delicious yet fluffy scent. Vanillic without syrup but rich in oriental gourmand style!

I think it was launched before 1997. There was an off-smell almost like onions. I think it's the tuberose. It's funny someone likened it to Avon's Far away. For the same reason I didn't order Far Away because of that one note my nose can detect. Coty had much better perfumes.

I don't know if the pre-owned bottle I purchased has "turned" but there is an odd, harsh chemical smell that reminds me of body odor. For this reason, I don't think it's a safe blind buy.

DAUGHTER OF THE MOON By The Shores of Gitche Gumee By The Shining Big Sea Water Stood The Wigwam of Nokomis Daughter of the Moon Nokomis The Song of Hiawatha by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Nokomis is a 1997 fragrance named after the character of the grandmother of Hiawatha in the aforementioned poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. It's an Oriental fragrance with the classic ingredients that are the staple of Oriental perfumes: jasmine and sandalwood. It opens with a strong peach scent. Lush, fruity, ripe, sexy, womanly. It's not one of the new type of peach scents and comes out of the 80s and 90's type of peach notes. It's very sweet and very wearable, although very strong. I prefer that my perfumes have peach or plum and not the citruses that are most common in fragrances. I have a vintage 1997 spray which is rare. Most of the ones selling today are miniatures or the reformulation which I believe has the additional note of vanilla. The heart of Nokomis contains two white flowers: jasmine and tuberose. Tuberose is the heaviest accord and if you're already familiar with tuberose you know that it gives off a rich, creamy aroma. It's also just a tad spicy. I find that this fragrance turned spicy on me as opposed to fruity. The jasmine flower is lovely, exotic, like something I would have come across in India. The vetiver and musk in the base are rather masculine which gives this fragrance a different facet. The white flowers and peach are feminine, but the musk is like a man's cologne. So what you end up with is one of these rare and beautiful unisex fragrances that I'm attracted to. The rose in this fragrance is not a big player and I didn't even reach my nose at all. I wish it had though. This is a gorgeous day time casual fragrance. It's giving me the "wear me whenever you want" type of vibe. Day or night any season. It's simple, sweet and no nonsense. I recommend it for both women and men. And from 1997. I was already into fragrance then I wonder why I had never heard of it until now! LOL I love it.

I was chasing after Nokomis for almost a year and at last got hold of it. When you read the notes - no civet, no incense, no moss, no patchouli you just asking yourself WHY the box states: Mystical and Magical, Intuitive and Creative?.. Thinking, well, the bottle is cute, the name IS Mystical, but let's see if anything special in it... And oh yes, its Something! Gets stronger and deeper, creamy tuberosy, musky and sensual. The peach is well balanced by sandal, rose as always great with vetiver, but where in notes is moonflower?.. Why is it missing?..these intoxicating trumpet-shape flowers that unfurl in the evening?.. Coz all the mystery happens because of moonflower, sensational aphrodisiac fragrance, truly for Moonlight meeting), adorable. It lasts for ages, Its always strong as flowers at the night, and inviting, a dozen of "wow" from me.

I always liked this perfume. I have gone on ebay and bought it a few times because I can't find it anywhere else. This is the one perfume that my friends always associated with me. The smell is soft and alluring. I bought it on a whim when it first came out. I found it at CVS and the box had to have been mis marked as it was really cheap. I loved it so much I went back and bought the five boxes that were on the shelf at the time. I really wish they would bring this back along with the body wash! I would definately be a long time buyer!

i have the same complaint about Coty. I even called them to see if they could bring back the Patchuli Vanilla fragance that sold at Wall-Mart for 13.00 one time. I paid 25.00 for a bottle at E-Bay and be willing to pay around that price if they bring it back. My daughter loved Nokomis and they stop making it also. Maybe it is that some of the ingredients are to hard of expensive to get anymore. Anyway,I would love to be a perfume maker and try to reproduce those fragances again, or I wish somebody did.

A long time ago, my aunt gave me the lotion for this. I was really young, and it was the most sophisticated smelling thing I had ever owned. I loved the shiny gold bottle, and the name just seemed so exotic to me. I can only vaguely recall the scent now - in fact, I had completely forgotten about it until now. I wish they would bring it back, I want to smell it again.

My skin turns the most amazing scents into awful things but this cheap perfume became the sexiest seductive scent ever. Just ever so close to the skin, beautiful. And of course city discontinued it ages ago. I'd give my right arm for this to come back. I can't find anything even close. Damn this weird skin chemistry of mine!

Very sweet heavy tuberose layered on top of syrupy peaches and a creamy sandalwood base. Lovely but very strong. Lasts 6 hours plus. White floral lovers only need apply! Nothing subtle about this -- night time wear or at home, not something to wear to work or crowded situations.

a bit sickening sweet with some spice and honey, it's the tuberose, pretty though, quickly dries to skin scent; like it but don't love it because it sort of makes your teeth hurt with its sweetness

A nineteen year old vintage bottle smells exactly as it did the day of purchase--remarkable!
