Smitty

Moore: I bought this beautiful perfume while we were on a vacation in London in 1977, the year of the Queens silver jubilee. I love Great Britain, and London, and the music, on the radio Donna Summer was a hit with "I feel love"... My life was so very bright, I had a future to come, I think, all of that is gone now, but I remember we walked up Kings Road, it was so very exiting back than, this new punk rock ruled the world, and I bought my first blue nail-polish, yes, Smitty was my first ever proper perfume, my life has been a mess, a totally disaster, but, I'm nearly 58, and still alive, and "born to be alive", I think, about 2/3 of the worlds people still would have loved to be in my shoes .................... my thoughts about Smitty, the smell of it, makes me happy and very prosperious :D

Loved this!! And I see from the notes that it contained moss, which would explain it. Always was all about the chypre-style. I shall be stalking ebay for a bottle. Edit - I have my smitty again!! So happy. It's a full-on chypre all right. The moss is evident from the first spray, and it's very green too. Oh happy memories. This is what drugstore fragrance was like back in the day - in a word, classy. How times have changed.

Finally after 2 years on fragrantica, I have remembered the fragrance I wore in high school. While everyone else was wearing "Charlie", I wore this and loved it. It may have been the only drugstore scent I liked. I thought there was another one too but no other popular names from the time sound like the second frag.

I can remember very good this wonderfull fume.I was 18 Years old,end of the 1980. It was very fresh,crispy,flowers,white,clean flowers,very powdery,claen and longlasting. I loved it.I think,today it will be a little too craemy for me.But it once of my first perfumes ever,my first big love :)

This was my signature scent in 6th grade. I felt so sophisticated, I remember just LOVING the way it smellled. Funny, because all these years later I wouldn't choose this based on the notes. I would love to smell it again to see if I still like it.

I remember Smitty as being a "clean" scent, but with an earthy drydrown that made it different from other clean frags like Jean Nate. It was one of the "liberated woman perfumes" that emerged following the popularity of Charlie, I really liked the "superfatted soap" scented with Smitty which was sold in a local drugstore. The fragrance from the soap lasted all day and it was quite moisturizing on the skin. I wish they would bring this back, as long as it's not reformulated!

I grew up during very opinionated times. One person could make a remark and it would be the stigma of a lifetime. I bought this perfume as a teen, and to this day I have no idea why. I wanted and tried to like this! But I could never get past the name. Mind you I'm not quite so shallow now! Smitty...growing up in my world, it was a small framed and very frail old unshaven drunkard in the back of a bar where fights often broke out. His name might have been Mr. Smith if he had taken a better path in life. Smitty to me was someone you didn't ever take the chance of taking a deep breath around. This is the ONLY reason I couldn't wear this. I may have liked it somewhat, I may like it a lot today. But I will never know really. I'm not fond of oak moss or any moss really. It might also be that the image of "Smitty" came from the feelings I get when I smell anything mossy. Still, I have to be very careful if a perfume has any moss. I think it's why I can't purchase a bottle of Mitsouko. I LOVE it, but it takes me to a dark place. I love the feeling, but I can't go to that dark place. So I've spilled muh guts and still haven't written a review! I wish I could get to know if I really would have liked this or not, or even would to this day. It's just something I've always wondered about and did even at the very time I owned it. I will go to my grave not knowing. I don't think it's something I will ask God about ever, but I DO think you should never make this mistake in your perfume life!

Just got a sample along with a handful of other scents from my past from surrender to chance website . This one saddens me. I was suspicious that I would no longer like it and I don’t. But I’m happy that it is still in the world so I could give it a shot. I wouldn’t call it citrusy or woody. Perhaps a bit of a muddled floral-moss scent. I’ve only had it on for a short while. If it surprises me later I’ll edit comments.

I used it in the 80s and loved it a lot. Sadly, I can't remember the smell now. Wouldn't be able to describe it. But would recognize it immediately, from miles away and with much pleasure! It would evoke my dearest memories of me and two friends sitting at school and instead of concentarting on a lesson thinking how glamorous we are because of wearing the smell. It was the best thing I owned in 1980s :)

I remember LOVING this as a teenager but like some others here, am struggling to conjure up the smell in my brain. I do remember how fresh and different it was from everything else at the time.

Fragraria, following your anti review review, I have to say yours is the most hilarious sorta review I’ve read here in a while. Now I really wanna try Smitty.

I used this as a young teen. It smelled predominantly of oranges. Fresh, sassy and playful. Would love to smell it again to see if it smells the same.

Loved this as a young teenager. Always smelled orange and green to me. A light and cheerful scent which lasted for ages.

Oh, my word. Now this is one oakmoss marvel I'd LOVE to sample!
