Wild Musk

I have worn this since the late 70's and have always preferred the oil due to it's mystical, erotic richness the cologne has always been missing. There is not much detectable difference upon firstly applying, but as it wears the cologne takes a twist into something that smells like Play-Doh from old time; sour, wrong, icky. My mother insisted on buying the cologne every birthday and Christmas and there is such a vast difference I poured the entire big cologne bottle of that weak, sour stuff in my bath water. The original vintage oil is the only way to go with this extraordinarily sensual, soft, sexy blend. I wonder what type musk they used so I can attempt a dupe since the oil is discontinued and overly priced, though possibly worth it in my opinion. My guess for the musk is a well-hidden civet since it is most common. Still owning an amber round bottle of the oil with a wand in the lid and trying to keep usage to a minimum is wearing me down. I never understood the cheap/trashy reputation this fragrance has among some. It is a glorious, other-worldly, deliberate undressy (and get undressed) scent while happening to be very pretty, gentle, non-offensive, and classy cool at the same time. I call that a masterful, aphrodisiac blend and probably the reason my mother refused me the oil. On me, there is not much sweetness and no baby powder at all. It is a punch of pheromonal sexy that is deliciously naughty; not dirty, loud, or raucous (though it could easily lead to that *wink*) It is addictive and yes, "wild". My nose and skin understands exactly how this scent got its name. I cannot count the number of compliments from both sexes over the years. The men go crazy in an aphrodisiac way for this scent and I will admit to loving it on myself. Of all the scents I love best, this one is the only one the word "sexy" is continually mentioned. I get a lot of "You smell beautiful", "that smells incredible", etc. with the others. With Coty Wild, the word "sexy" is used a lot. It is a naked scent even with clothes on. It is a true love potion that will always have my heart. I adore this fragrance and Coty did a superb job creating it. (Oh, for the love of the pure and finest, rich, raw, silky vintage oil! I am wearing this as I type, in the context in which I adore it most... in my jammies, after a nice hot shower, after a long day at work... having found supreme comfort. This is the MUSK I think of when I long for MUSK...which is most of the time. ;) A good musk, to me, is as beautiful for what it is *not*, as it is beautiful for what it *is*. (How do you like that sentence structure? Haha.) Perhaps I'll spare you all my usual abstract long-winded-ness and just list the aspects of musk that I enjoy, and do not enjoy. Here goes. PERFECT MUSK: -Warm -Round -Skin-like NOT-SO-PERFECT MUSK: -Powdery -Fresh -Soapy I've been loving Coty Wild Musk since probably 1987, and for all of the haves and have-nots listed above. I do not detect jasmine (hallelujah) nor rose... I love rose, but wouldn't want it in this scent... to me, this is not a place for flowers. This is a place for closeness, for loving contact. The musk itself is a heavenly warm embrace of velvety skin... is the softest whisper of pleasantly dry sandalwood, which serves to give almost a fireside vibe... but not like smoke, or Christmas... just warm, cozy, intimate, beautiful skin. I love to mist, let it get to the drydown, and then mist again. Mmmmmmmmmmmm... double drydown This is good, good stuff, friends. $100 worth of good, good stuff for $11. If you do not own it, and you love musks, for the love of [insert name of spiritual entity here] buy it!!!

Sometimes I forget how beautiful this fragrance is. Talk about a cold, cloudy day, comfort frag! Some days I can't smell it very strongly. Today my morning test spritz amid breakfast time...hit me like days of old! Strong and rich smelling this morning. This is the newer bottle I bought a few months ago. Again, I really do think time makes some of these fragrances concentrate. Overwhelmed olfactories too busy sniffing so very many scents at once just stop working well. Maybe that is why perfume creators often don't wear much perfume themselves. Coty Wild Musk is a softly spiced, musky, drugstore snuggler of scent. If you are old enough to remember Wella Balsam hair products it kind of has that type of warm rounded woodsy element. Warmth and sexiness in a bottle. I wore this off and on myself in the past and I also remember one of my nieces wearing this years ago in the snowy wintertime with her soft fuzzy sweaters and jeans and smelling so inviting. CWM is like a hug in a bottle. Coty Wild Musk is ageless and timeless and if you love musk it is worth trying.

This is a very warm and close to the skin, musk fragrance. I have been wearing it for 25 years and I never grow tired of it. This is not a modern "sharp" musk, so don't be afraid to try it. It's not terrible powdery or cloying and it's not green and bright either, so you don't have to worry about smelling "musky and strong". It is warm and gentle with soft florals and mellow woods. They are blended so well, that they form a single accord that resembles deer musk in the heat of summer. And, it is a very summery fragrance. You could easily wear this to a BBQ at a friends house or on a camping trip. Yet, it's also sexy enough to wear on a casual date. This fragrance doesn't seem to be connected to any particular age bracket either. So, whether you are 16 or 60...you can wear it with ease. I have also found that both the women's and the men's versions are quite unisex. So, if you prefer a slightly stronger wood note, go for the men's. And, if you want a warmer or sweeter musk, wear the women's.

This was my very first perfume love. Oh, how I miss that beautiful oil. The new bottles are ok. I will always have some & I will always use it... but that deep wild musk has been tamed by powder & it fades so quickly & it leaves me wanting. That old scent is exactly why I joined this community. I am in search of that deeply sweet wild musk; the one that hasn’t been tamed by shampoo and powder. I’m not looking for strong spices like Kiehl’s (I have it & it is fantastic in its own right.) And I’m not looking for florals like Jovan’s white musk (very nice) or Lovely (Ugh- just screechy) I want the honeyed musk that smells of earth and gardening and sweet sweat. That balance where the musk is first & the flowers and spices are whispered reminders that though the musk is wild it is still sweet and beautiful and warm hearted. That wild musk that stays with you through the day & fools you into believing that that is just your natural scent Suggestions? Please

Coty Wild Musk (oil) might be the first scent I purchased with my allowance money back in the late 70s - early 80s. Mom hated it. "Smells like used underwear!" Being a good pre-teen, I made sure I doused myself liberally - especially around my mother. My current circa 2016 bottle of oil seems to be missing the "used underwear" note, but it otherwise continues to replicate the important parts of the scent I (and my partner) remember from the early 80s in a weaker, more socially acceptable, form. This is a warm vanillic musk with a very distinctive signature (likely rose and jasmine), made warmer by the oil carrier. I'll admit I don't get the "powder" note. It might be the carrier - or the fact that I have worn this off and on for many decades and don't associate any of the suffocated florals in this scent as "powder." I often use this as a layering scent for fragrances that need something a little vanillic and musky for me to enjoy it.

This is a ♥️ big love ♥️ for me & strangely enough, it’s the only perfume my partner has commented on directly, as in, “Whatever you have on right now smells really good.” Weird, right? I’ve received compliments from others on this one, too. Longevity is okay, several hours. This isn’t a loud or strong scent. Sits nice and close to the skin. Very simple fragrance. Sweet and warm. I find that choosing fragrances is a bit like pairing wines; there are multiple approaches. You can either go for a complimenting “flavor” or one that contrasts. Wild Musk is complimentary. I find most gourmands and musks to be, and certain florals too. Nothing sharp about this one. I will say that it has a “barber shop” vibe to it that immediately made me wrinkle my nose and think, “Ew, this is a grandpa smell!” and stash it under the cabinet for several months. No idea what made me pull it back out, but I’m glad I did. It’s grown on me. ♥️

Ten years or so ago I used to buy the oil and my dad would always steal it! what the hell! today I ran across an older bottle of the cologne spray, and was hesitant to spray it on, in case it went sideways & powdery, or just diddnt seem right. Pleasant surprise! This fine old musk is the ONLY one to work with my chemistry, still to this day. After SL MKK, Kiehls & a whole gamut,this still settles nicely, like there is almost a hint of patchouli lurking, and it just melts into my skin. The musk I've been searching for, was lying in the past all along. And for such a reasonable price. I would recommend an older version, older is usually better in the perfume world, this is exactly as I remember it. And better on me now as a woman, & not a teenager. Every musk lover should give this a try, its the standard, and I think still better than its frocked up followers. Good to find a lost favorite!

This is my signature scent and favourite fragrance in the whole wide world. I own both vintage (70's and 80's) and the current Concentrated Cologne and frankly they all smell the similar to each other but not the same when first spraying them on. However they all have the heavenly dry down that last forever on hair and clothing. CWM has not changed in 38 years. I love the the perfume (not the perfume oil) best but, the concentrated cologne is almost as good. I love spritzing this in my hair. It is clean and warm, always makes a good impression. I always get compliments on how nice I smell, NEVER on how nice my 'perfume' is. Although my nose gets used to it so I don't smell it but others do. It has an 'ethereal' quality about it that I find absolutely enchanting.

The first fragrance for me. My eldest sister wore it and it quickly become associated with: independence, freedom, femininity, sexy, and being a 'woman' - I didn't know any better. Haha. But it has such sentimental value now that I cannot be objective!! It is so sweet and warm and musky. But very gentle and cannot offend anyone. This was my signature scent for my late teens and almost all of my 20s. It became like a second skin for me. For me, the longevity is not great but I can still smell faint hints of it on my skin at the end of the day. Throw/sillage is like zero for me - and I like that. Sometimes I want to wear something that is super safe and only for me to enjoy. It's not complicated - you're not going to 'go on a journey' with this one. But I LOVE it.

I have been looking for a cheaper alternative to aerin amber musk and this is as close as I have found so far that is actually cheaper and not more expensive! You do have to let it sit and let the alcohol dissipate to actually get the smell of the perfume, but it is quite lovely and soft and a bit warm smelling, not too overpowering. I don’t mind having to respray to get more of the scent throughout the day because I grew up in the hayday of body mists so I tend to overspray regardless of the strength of the perfume, so to me, its not a big deal. You cannot beat this price, coty is a major perfume distributor and they have their formulas made at amazing prices which as a consumer, I truly appreciate. Perfume does not have to be expensive to be good!

This was my late mother's signature. She passed away when I was a little girl and I kept her scarf and sweater that still smelled of her perfume long after she was gone. It stuck to clothes for a good couple of years. 20 years have passed. In my adult life, I completely forgot about it. I got reminded of this scent by fragrantica, it appeared in the 'recently reviewed' panel and the memories came rushing back. I ordered it online, a small bottle since I was concerned it had been reformulated. It hasn't. I just received it and it's the same sweet, musky, deeply comforting and sensual in a discreet way scent. Now I'm the same age as my mum when she used to wear it. I think I've matured enough to start wearing it myself.

This review is for the vintage version. I have not yet tried a more recent bottle to compare as of yet. Coty's Wild Musk is a close-wearing, slightly spicy and lightly sweet musk that really shines after it warms on your skin for a few minutes. Compared to Jovan's original Musk for Women, Wild Musk is spicier, less soapy, and has a slightly more intimate sillage. This is a great all-weather, work-appropriate scent that reads as unisex to my nose. I spray this liberally and haven't had any issues with my co-workers; one, who I swear has the nose of a bloodhound and is therefore my litmus test for office-safe scents, doesn't comment on this one at all. It just smells like clean skin with a whisper of spice. I love it!

This is a one of a kind perfume and has been my signature scent for many years. I found it with my mom at a local yard sale if I remember correctly and it smelled like everything I ever wanted in life condensed into a scent, a lust born potion that I fell in love with. I have worn it from around 13yrs old on and everytime I smell this it reminds me of high school, 90s music, Bon Jovi on the car radio, dances, summer evenings and nights on the porch swing at my Aunt's house, swimming in the lake and any and everything fobidden. This is the sexiest scent that I have ever worn and I will always continue to wear. Electricity in a bottle!

Coty's Wild Musk one of the best smelling scents you can buy in a drug store IMO. It is a warm, creamy musk with a vanillic sandalwood base and subtle floral accents. Initially its got a lot of throw, but then it settles down into a skin scent. If Coty decided to quadruple the concentration and release this as an eau de toilette with decent lasting power, Wild Musk would feature heavily in my rotation. The current formulation has poor lasting power unfortunately. As it is, I use this more has a room spray or to scent my home. I love spraying this on bed linens, or adding a bunch of sprays to my bath water. It still smells wonderful.

This review is for the Coty Wild Musk Oil marketed in Brazil. I purchased a 5 ml bottle for $20 CAD on evilbay. I have been wearing all forms of Coty Wild Musk since 1978. I currently own vintage oil, perfume, solid perfume, cologne, as well as what is currently available at Malwart. Back to the Coty Wild Musk Oil marketed in Brazil: it is a beautiful skin scent that blooms best on my skin in the summer heat. I can hardly smell it on my skin in the cooler months. On my skin, it is more "freshly mown hay" very similar to Heno de Pravia than musk. Yet, something in the base really does recall the vintage formula of the perfume oil.

Something about this reminds me of another scent, a scented oil a friend used to give me called African Musk. How I adore African Musk & I would spend hundreds on something that smelled similar and lasted... & then to smell this and it is so close to African Musk I just had to have it. It does not seem to last very long though which I was expecting at the price point, sadly. Really not what I was expecting from the packaging or name at all, and a pleasant surprise. Heh, they say do not judge a book by it's cover... I will have to try the oil version, which I did not know existed (thanks deeannek) and see if it lasts longer.

It is intensively musky: warm, moist, breathing, skin-sheer, just like the smell and vibe if you put your nose quite close to the baby's head but one thing to be reminded, it might smell a little bit vanilla. Musk deer is a very timid small creature, slender and get frightened easily so does the scent, it is delicate, sensitive and never tend to conflict with your own skin scent. WILD musk? Not at all. It is everything MILD about musk. After all, when craving to Musk note for some intimate or solitude occasion, my mind and hand goes to this one, again and again.

Oh my goodness, I remember wearing this in my freshman year of college! So this review would be for the oldest version. Probably the cologne because that was all I could afford! Wow, I thought I was da bomb wearing this, and maybe I was! Although I didn't have men throwing themselves at me. Too bad. But I felt good wearing it. I have a feeling that I way oversprayed it. Very belated apologies to anybody who sat by me in class! As I recall it, this was pretty musky, so I think it would be kind of heavy in hot weather. Just my opinion...YMMV.

This review is based upon the spray. Coty Wild Musk smells a great deal like Jovan Musk, but less sweet and slightly more powdery. It's certainly animalic, but in a "daytime" way which is suitable for work when applied discreetly. I was pleasantly surprised at the "high end of moderate" longevity and sillage, as I was not expecting such a good result with a spray. I received several compliments and questions about this scent! I did get a slight indolic note from the jasmine, but just enough to be interesting and earthy, not nasty!
