FH 77

I am delighted to share my impressions of FH77 from Courrèges, and interestingly, it seems I am the first to embark on this olfactory evaluation. Procuring this fragrance from eBay was a decision made with a touch of uncertainty, as such blind buyings often are. FH77, despite its purported classification as a woody aromatic, very likely navigates the chypre domain. Uncertainties arise over whether the original-vintage bottle, now in my possession, accurately represents the fragrance or time has subtly altered its composition. Let it be what it is, and regardless of any olfactory groupings, please note that while many prefer to categorize perfumes into distinct “families”, I find such distinctions somewhat confounding. My appreciation for fragrances lies more in the narratives they unfold rather than the specific notes they comprise. The initial citrusy notes, though ephemeral, deviate from the usual on-paper freshness, leaning towards a subtle sweetness. Following this, a gradual emergence of a woody essence ensues, reminiscent of the fragrant pine forests during late summer sunsets (a pleasantly surprising revelation). Contrary to expectations, the fragrance does not exude a dated aura; quite the contrary, although the ensuing dry-down encapsulates the overall ambiance of fragrances from its era (a soft, mildly animalic musk, prompting speculation on its authenticity, mixed with a serene oakmoss). Typically averse to musky notes, particularly those resembling generic compositions, I find this rendition remarkably gentle, void of cloying sweetness, thanks to the stingy woody scents from behind. Full disclosure: my acquisition of this fragrance has been driven by sentimental motives, as the late André Courrèges remains a designer I deeply admire (still today). The allure of the aesthetically pleasing bottle, not to mention the intricate graphics, elevates it beyond a mere olfactory experience. It stands as a significant addition to my collection, being also the inaugural creation by Morillas.

Since I heard this is Alberto Morillas first ever fragrance I so want to smell it.
