Extract of Mysore Sandalwood

I had a couple of bottles of the OG fragrance. I purchased it way back in the day....the old fragrance was Mysore Sandalwood which was amazing..The second bottle i bought a few years after that was the same bottle as well but...when i ran out of it on the third "formulation"...the bottle was changed to the clear bottle and did not mention Mysore any more...the first two (Mysore's) were amazing...the new formulation is still very good but doesnt have the depth and richness as the OG. I did purchase another bottle(my 4th bottle) two yrs ago and the price was "reasonably" high...but now its in the $250-to 400 dollars..depending on the seller on Ebay....i wont be ordering a furthur one now...It was/is still a great sandalwood fragrance. Its one of the classic scents that should never have been discontinued.

Finally it was added to our database!! In the future every time when we reference this perfume, we don't need to say the one with an elephant print. Onto the perfume... it definitely has a strong mysore sandalwood present and smells refreshing. It is a cologne so definitely not worth these resale prices...

This is were my love of sandalwood began. I loved this oh so much. If it were still available, I would still be wearing it. Sigh*

when i worked at a mall in the early 90s, this alongside the patchouli cologne, was my go-to daily spray. it fit well with practically everything and i loved wearing it under the original Joop! and Samsara EDP for added sandalwood "oomph." The patchouli cologne was an ideal companion too, the two layered beautifully. However, this nor the patchouli are the "holy grail" of their namesake notes. they were at best, very light and rather inexpensive back then, and i bathed in the stuff when wearing because it was the only way to make it last or project. Remember, the actual fragrance oil content is a mere 8.3% - so they're very, very light and discreet. I must've gone through at least five bottles of them back then and while truly beautiful, there were incredibly mild and close to the skin. Knowing this, it would take a fool to buy this at the current ridiculous prices expecting something glorious and life-changing. This isn't that - it's simply a nice sandalwood with a touch of other notes. You would be much better off using that money to buy a good quality santalum album oil and wear that on its own. That would make much more sense.

Comforting, meditative elegance that helped me survive the awkwardness of adolescence. Beautiful presentation - the label evokes the legend and the exoticism of India, before the Raj. Found an old bottle with maybe 20ml left in a box of old books and papers. Such a fantastic cologne. Wish I had more. Not an “extrait de parfum” kind of extract though - an Indian Sandalwood cologne with the distinctive scent profile of Mysore Sandalwood that left the wearer refreshed, with a light skin scent and a longevity of around two hours. If applied after a shower it would be gone by the time I got to school or work. Great for freshening up in the afternoons and after sport. Recently ordered a bunch of sandalwood fragrances from a company in India, Parag Fragrances, whose “Mysore Sandal Body Mist” is a perfect substitute for C&E Extract of Mysore Sandalwood. Already gone through two 100ml bottles over the last few months and about to reorder more. With expedited shipping via DHL it arrives in about 72 hours. If you’re looking for a replacement for the C&E, this stuff is incredible and smells AMAZING. It easily outperforms the C&E too and smells niche - the scent profile reminds me of the carved sandalwood fans my parents brought back from India in the 1960s. EDIT 2023: Parag Fragrances seems to have discontinued the body mist, but still offer a superb range of affordable sandalwood fragrances, both attar and perfume.

I had the C&E Mysore Sandalwood soap (with the elephant) and really, it was absolutely dreamy. Apparently the C&E included amyris wood (torchwood or West Indian sandalwood) in the mix. A friend of mine is a teacher in India and mailed me a small vial of authentic Mysore sandalwood oil, and I was expecting to smell my beloved and discontinued C&E Mysore Sandalwood, but alas, they are not the same, lol.
