Bois du Portugal

Today on my Creed journey I'm looking at another "lost" fragrance that most people don't talk about; Bois du Portugal. If I remember correctly, I saw someone mention this one in a "Top 10 Creeds" video and it caught my attention because I had never heard of it before. Now this fragrance was released in the 80's so I'm fully expecting it to have a classic vibe to it. And based on the name, I'm expecting some sort of woodiness from it. Let's get into it and find out; Scent: The opening is aromatic, woody, and spicy. The primary notes I get are lavender, sandalwood, bergamot, and cedar. The strongest of the notes are the lavender and sandalwood. The lavender pops me square in the nose with a solid left hook from the first spray. It's a very strong and masculine lavender, filled with spiciness and nuances of licorice and strangely cinnamon. Right beside the lavender is a heaping dose of sandalwood that brings its signature powdery woodiness. This is followed by the bergamot and cedar. The bergamot adds a bit of citric brightness to the opening with its usual lemony accord tinged with spice and aromatics. Lastly, the cedar doubles down on the woodiness brought by the sandalwood, but in a dry and piney way. The dry down is still aromatic, woody, and spicy. The primary notes I get are lavender, sandalwood, cedar, and vetiver. The strongest of the notes are still the lavender and sandalwood. Both notes carry the same accords from the opening, just a bit quieter. This is followed by the cedar and vetiver. The cedar is still the same from the opening, no change there either. Lastly, the vetiver adds even more wood with a bit of smokiness in the background. Not a lot, just enough to detect that it's coming from the vetiver. Performance: Initial projection within the first hour is strong at around 5-6 feet. Sillage matches that with an easily noticeable scent trail. After a few hours the performance was largely the same. At the 8 hour mark the projection was about 3-4 feet and the scent trail was not quite as strong but still noticeable. The fragrance became a skin scent around the 10-11 hour mark. When to wear: Bois du Portugal is one of those fragrances that can be worn anytime and smell good. It has freshness and aromatics to work well in the warmer weather, as well as woods and and spice to work well in cooler weather. For those same reasons, it will work in the daytime or evening. Even when it comes to occasion, this fragrance can pretty much do it all. Dress it up for formal wear, or dress it down for casual wear; either way it will feel appropriate. This would also make a great office fragrance. Blind buy: If you like the vibe of those classic men's fragrances with sharp woody and aromatic edges (think Drakkar Noir), then this is a safe blind buy for you. Final verdict: As soon as I smelled Bois du Portugal, I knew I was in for something special. It undeniably has that classic 80's men's fragrance vibe, and I'm all here for it. To me, it smells like a higher-quality, more expensive version of Drakkar Noir. And with Drakkar Noir being a fragrance I love, it makes sense why Bois du Portugal speaks to me so much. Performance for this fragrance is no slouch either. Strong projection and scent trails for the first few hours, still decent around 7-8 hours, and lasting for about 10-11 hours altogether. Versatility is through the roof as well. Any time you throw on Bois du Portugal, regardless of the occasion or weather, it will smell incredible. When it comes to mass-appeal, this fragrance has it. It exudes high-class masculinity, and everyone will think you smell incredible. To wrap this up, I think Bois du Portugal is an outstanding fragrance that inarguably deserves more hype and recognition that it gets. On the other hand, I'm kind of glad it flies under the radar because that means I can gate keep it a bit. This is definitely going to be one I pick up when I have the chance. I have a review written down below for the modern version. However *this one will be for the Vintage* I was able to snag. The bottle is from the late 90’s in the 75ml. Boy does the vintage BdP pack a punch compared to the new reformulations! They are different, but similar DNA, but they take different journeys throughout. The explosion of bergamot isn’t present in my bottle, instead it’s replaced with an opening like that of a syrupy rich bergamot, which then slowly morphs in to the depths of the smooth petrified sandalwood and dark vetiver. Throughout the adventure every layer is much more concentrated. You very much get the loads of Amber at every stage. It’s much more sensual than the reformulations. It’s as though every ingredient is soaking in a sappy amber giving it greater depth and weight. The new formulation is much dryer, crisper, sharper and lighter - which I adore in its own right. The vintage is every ingredient multiplied by 5 and oozes with a deeper essence and gravity. The recent formulation is easier to wear and takes itself less seriously, even though this is a serious and bold fragrance compared to the market as a whole. Think of it as.. the new version is a man in his career and who is starting to prove himself. Whereas the vintage, is a man who is very accomplished and a mentor. It has that type of weight. New formulation can be worn spring, fall, winter and is just always there for you; maybe summer too, but haven’t tried it there yet. Vintage would be more appropriate for a cold fall evening, and winter night at a fancy restaurant or classy night out. BdP vintage dry down is a deep amber sandalwood, whereas the reformulation is a dry sandalwood mixed with a light cream. Bois Du Portugal is a complete stud of a man’s fragrance. It’s the king of classy masculine fougere scents! Not even a doubt. There’s nothing better blended on the market. Smelling the vintage is akin to laying on a sheep skin rug in front of a stone fire place after a great night out feeling like a child again, wrapped in some benevolent warmth in a study filled with books and a beautiful desk. I think this scent is impossible to dislike, whether you want to call it old school, old man, mature, or whatever else. The point is.. it’s the king and when wearing it, you take on the sense of feeling in charge of the show!

Lovely scent, great quality juice. Bois du Portugal is a fantastic blend of bergamot, lavender, cedar, ambergris and sandalwood. It has a mature and serious vibe, it's not something for people under 35. Formal and a bit conservative, the smell is rich and balanced, maybe a bit linear with a soft barbershop feel. It reminds me the characters of the old noir movies of 50's or 60's, someone like bogart or grant or cooper. It may not appeal to the people, especially in the opening. But bdp it's something for confident men, you dont need to be liked by the other people, with this fragrance u dont need anything else. The performance is ok, i love the drydown so i would prefer a better performance, but there's not something to complain about it. Only for cold seasons with a formal outfit. Regarding the alternatives, lalique pour homme and Nicolai new York intense are quite similar. Lph is very similar in the smell, it has a good quality but u can feel the difference in terms of quality and richness. New York intense is also similar and has a great quality. Nyi is a bit more appealing, less ultra-masculine but the vibe is almost the same. Both lph and nyi perform better on my skin than the creed one but bdp has a bit more charisma. It's only my opinion. Creed bois du Portugal è un profumo di altri tempi, serio, affascinante e senza fronzoli. Ha un odore leggermente barbershop e ha l'atmosfera dei film noir degli anni 50-60. Un po' nostalgico e conservativo, è adatto decisamente ad un pubblico maturo e non è detto riceva molti complimenti. Ma bdp non vuole piacere, è per gente sicura che sa quello che vuole. Performance nella norma. Alternative simili sono lalique pour homme e nicolai new York intense ma ovviamente con alcune differenze. Bois du Portugal Creed Top Notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin & Basil Heart Notes: Lavender & Spices Base Notes: Sandalwood, Patchouli, Vetiver & Cedarwood Bois Du Portugal captures the woody forest of the Iberian Peninsula and the fragrant scent that runs throughout the Portuguese highlands. In french it is pronounced "Bua Du Portugal" Du Bois means Woods. It opens with a dry shiny bergamot and lemon which is dominant for the 10-15 minutes or so. The dry spices and lavender in the heart doesn't shout out to tell you I'm the lavender unlike some lavender heavy scents but it blends and mixes in so well with it's green, fresh spicy, licorice facets together with the cedarwood and still continues with a hint of Bergamot. This green and woody scent will remain with you a while and reminds us what clean and musculine is all about. As the scent develops, we go into the rather well known Creed territory of sandalwood, ambergris, and vetiver where it also exists in a few other Creed creations, particularly the smooth creamy sandalwood used it Creed creations. Bois du Portugal may be the next masterpiece to step up to for those who are grown and wants to move on from the younger profiled Adventus. Your noses have matured, grown older and wants to experience a different mood that it brings and gives, a classy elegant, woodsy refined style anyone wants to go for. It suits everyday wear, functions and events for the modern man. Au revoir

He finally pulled the trigger. Not because he decided he was finally old enough (he is) but because he had finally earned the right to wear it. He has reached that time in his career, his life, where he has arrived, he’s worked so damned hard over the years, sacrificed, and he’s made it safely. He’ ll retire in a couple of years, a little early, and the rest of his life will be his, and his alone. You may find him in Milan, Cannes, Monaco, Vienna, or tucked away in the Virgin Islands or on his own deck overlooking a mountain lake. He can afford his favorite Cognac now, but cigars only destroy his magnificent scent so, no. This is the most divine scent known to mankind, and it’s his now. He will never go unshaven in t-shirts anymore. He is in slacks, leather loafers (sometimes no socks), a pin-striped shirt and, when the weather calls for it, his favorite sleeveless cardigan now. His true love of many years ever by his side and adoring him, they share their love of nature and good books and the occasional evening at the symphony. It’s all theirs now, she knows it and is constantly reassured by his strong arms and heavenly scent. Their beloved charities allow them to give a little back so that others, one day, may also arrive. This is Bois du Portugal. Nothing but the best of blends for those who have earned it and graciously accept it. He notes one last fact: a touch of grey at the temples helps but is not absolutely necessary.

My bottle is the discontinued 3015Y01 Batch. The notes are: Bergamot, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin, Basil, Lavender, Clove, Coriander, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Geranium, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Vetiver, & Cedarwood. What Bois Du Portugal ultimately smells like is a Vintage Luxury Soap. Imagine the scent of the White Bar of Ivory Soap. Now imagine it smelling enriched, & made creamy, powdery, & mildly woody with notes of Sandalwood & Cedar. Then spiced with notes of Clove, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, & Coriander. Then given mild Rose-like nuances from Geranium. Then given mild warm resinous nuances from Myrrh. Then given grassy green, floral green, earthy soil-like, mildly minty nuances from the combination of Vetiver & Patchouli. .... all resting on a bed of soft white Musk provided by a note of Ambergris. This fragrance smells like the guy who slaps you across the face with a white glove & asks for a Duel. It smells like the most high end bourgeoisie vintage soap you can imagine. Its the perfect fragrance for when you want to smell clean, dominant, & sophisticated with an air of mystery. Bois du Portugal works very well in the Spring & Fall. You can also wear it on Summer nights. While Bois Du Portugal smells soapy, its important to remember that it also smells Warm, Spiced, Resinous, & Woody. So its best worn in cooler or milder temperatures. It pairs just as well with a Suit, as it does with a simple white collared shirt.

This is the fragrance that made me do account here. I am a young guy at the age of 26, but this is the scent that sparked it for me. I like to dress up for my office work and I wanted to be somewhat mature and classy and this scent truly delivers. From the very first spray, the bergamot note stands out, providing a bright and invigorating start to my day. It's fresh, zesty, and exudes a sense of refined charm. The bergamot isn't overpowering but rather perfectly balanced, creating an inviting aura that's ideal for a professional setting. As the initial citrusy freshness of the bergamot settles, the heart of the fragrance reveals a beautifully blended lavender note. The lavender is crisp, clean, and adds a touch of herbal sophistication that enhances my overall presence without being too assertive. This transition from citrus to aromatic is smooth and captivating, making me feel composed and confident. As the hours pass, Bois du Portugal evolves further, unveiling its rich, woody base. This is also the only fragrance I own that my girlfriend can smell clearly and has complimented me on it! Truly a great scent that has got me more into this hobby. You are reading what I’ve taken the time to try and capture in words about Bois Du Portugal 🇵🇹 right now. In advance I’ll say that I deeply believe that this fragrance is beyond words. Think for a moment about the bottle you now own , or sample. And then how many feelings you have about this bomb 💣, and every other person who has a bottle of it and there feelings. All at once! That’s heavy, we live on our very own island where we totally and completely, utterly love BDP. The outside worlds opinion of it doesn’t matter to us, just our love for and adoration of it’s next blossom of smell we will experience as we wear it again soon. I tried not to like it. But it haunted me. I got a spray of it on my wrist one day and went back to work and saw a couple of necks snap...”What’s that?” Was the question several times that day. I thought yeah right I ain’t getting that, but I like it though. I made a long term commitment and got a 33 oz bottle. My wife kept telling me she hated it, my heart broke every single time she said that, every time! Somehow she one day said hey you smell good, “what’s that “ I was all smiles. Lesson, don’t over spray this. Many reviews say it smells old and grandpa-ish. I’m 55yrs. Old, so maybe that has me warmed up for this fragrance style. But I believe it is still timeless, mature, elegant , Sauve, debonaire, polished, poised, EitherYou love this or you love this!

The first time I smelled it, I just smiled. Big, big smile. Weird thing - I still smile every time. It’s like an old inside joke between you and your friends that you reflect fondly on. That wry...knowing...hell yeah kind of smile. It’s like...yup. That’s IT. Right there. Maybe it’s because I am an older guy (50+), but BdP scratches right where I itch. It is sublimely old school, in the best way possible. I know it wasn’t around then, but I instantly got images of the 70s house parties that my parents would tug me along to. Dark wood walls. Dimly lit. The funky carpets. Real, solidly built furniture. The adults in one room, gently laughing with the occasional outburst. Clinking of glasses. Me in the kids room, swapping Star Wars cards with the others. One of the fathers cuts through to get another bottle or some other such stuff. He’s dressed per the day, maybe too loud a sports coat, big collar, semi tinted glasses. Smiling as he walks by. Not really at us. Maybe thinking of a good comeback for a comment he just heard. Maybe his team won the pennant. Maybe just...enjoying. Vibing as all get out. So, that’s the scene. Like the kids say nowadays - if you know, you know. BdP brings me right there. But now, I’m the cool adult who‘s rocking a cologne like a boss. Thanks Creed.

Bois Du Portugal gives off a vibe that you want your favourite niche to do. First off, I found a 100ml tester bottle on fragrancebuy.ca, insane deal for a Creed fragrance. When I sampled this in store prior, my girlfriend insisted I buy it one day as it was her favourite. Reading reviews, I underestimated how strong this scent really is: What it does well is project while being soft, it doesn't choke anyone out but it grabs attention (FFS this is how more strong scents should be!) All it took was a few days for me to receive a hand full of compliments from it. Immediately you pick up on a perfect mix of Lavender & Bergamot, the lavender stays throughout the dry down to give it such a pleasing, clean scent, a unique vibe to soft citruses that I haven't smelled in a scent before. The 3 woody notes are blended so well in the dry down, I can't pin point which note I smell more but I wanna say sandalwood because it continues that soft vibe as sandalwood generally does. Next time you're looking at your cart, remove the Xerjoff & just get this Creed. Scent: 9.3/10 Longevity: 9/10 Projection/sillage: 9/10 (my colleague said he smells me from across the hallway) Blind Buy safe?: Yes Overall: 9.2/10

This is about as “old school” as it gets but BdP is a timeless classic. Classic lavender fougere that is not for everyone. I am in my 50’s and I still find this old fashioned/grandpa-y. I would expect that very few people in their 20’s or 30’s would like this. My young daughter told me I “smell like old people” when I wore it last. Very masculine and for a mature crowd generally. I love BdP but wear it mainly for more formal occasions. Think suit and tie, not sweat pants and tshirt. I have a newer “F” batch bottle and it lasts and projects very well. Very long lasting and projects surprisingly well. This is similar to Nicolai New York Intense but more subdued and more formal. I own and enjoy both. Definitely don’t blind buy this unless you love New York Intense or Lalique Lion. Creed recent release “F Batch” fragrances have almost all been very impressive to me. Creed is definitely on the right track after a few years of shitty performing releases. Edit: My new bottle lasts for 8+ hours and projects like crazy. Insane performance which is very surprising. I like BdJ a bit more than Nicolai New York intense as it is smoother than the sharper/more bracing NYI.

Hm... it’s as if a warm and soft man is letting me lay on his lap as he reads to me in a quiet section of a small library. This is sophistication and maturity at its precipice. As a college student, I’m trying to not let the “smells like an old man” or the “only older men can wear this” comments get to me—I firmly believe, while it objectively does smell mature and absolutely not youthful, it doesn’t go too far to the extent where younger adults should be scared away from this masterpiece. I know some of my peers who assert themselves as more mature characters than even some of my professors—how you present yourself is the most important in the context of wearing Bois Du Portugal. To me it smells like opening a used book and being close to obsessively stared at pages of paper. This is very much a private recollection and something I personally would wear for my own enjoyment; that being said, it makes me even happier to know that Bois Du Portugal gets a lot of compliments regardless. It’s unique. And I hope I won’t get in trouble by the creed/niche snobs when I say that I look forward to seeing how this layers with my royal oud. Mmm...banger...

This perfume is very manly. It's refined yet relatable. I've had this on my skin for about an hour and can't stop smelling myself. It's not the type of smell that's addictive because it's sweet or standout, it's more because it has a smell that you kinda feel like you wouldn't like but you still do. It has a scent of a different generation, one where men wore much stronger smells. I started my perfume journey more exploring unisex fragrances so getting into raw masculinity is actually quite fun too. most of the woody smells I'm used to are also in the woody / spicy category. This one is not, it's woody green category, reminds me of going out camping or hunting. I could see myself wearing this as an everyday scent as much as I could see myself wearing it on formal occasions. I think I have better smells for formal wear but I wouldn't be ashamed to choose bois du Portugal either. I could also see myself wanting to wear this before banging my wife, so she could smell the masculine vibe. This starts off pretty strong. After the first hour it feels like it's still quite strong but a little more calmed down in a good way.

Bois du Portugal certainly has an older style, but true Gentleman fragrance it is a more mature and classier take on fragrance, and it succeeds in everything it does. this isn't normal typical generic fresh aquatic with some sweet elements to appeal to a younger and hip audience. This one is different, this is for someone who wants to create an impression that will last. Performance is great. A powerful opening, that radiates a nice 4ft projection radius and lasts for an easy 3-4 hours. Sillage is also great; they will know where you have been, and where you have gone. I own both BDP 2013 (120 ml) & 2021 (100 ml) bottles. old juice have more yellow tinge because of added vetiver. I thoroughly enjoy both the batches. Old batch project more and last 6+ hours. Guy's who want to get it, try the sample first you will Definity love it. Scent: 10/10 Silage: 8.5/10 [ New Batch - (3- 4 Feet radius), Old Batch (5- 6 Feet radius)] Longevity: 8/10 [ New Batch - (solid 4 Hrs), Old Batch (Solid 6+ Hrs)] Bottle: 8/10 Price: 7/10

This was one of the first Creeds I ever bought when I was just getting into this whole fragrance hobby. Back then, I didn't have a boutique nearby to sample them, so I browsed the lineup and made a blind purchase based on the notes. It feels like ages ago, especially since it wasn’t even available at Nordstrom yet! I've always been drawn to aromatic fragrances. When I first smelled this one, it instantly reminded me of those orange-flavored gumballs you used to get from quarter machines at the grocery store. Then, the woody notes would slowly start to come through. What I love is that its scent remains pretty consistent over its 8-hour lifespan. I get why people say it smells like it's for older guys, but honestly, who cares? I'm 33, and I love wearing this during the spring; it’s great for special occasions and perfect for the office. This fragrance is definitely in my top three, and I find myself catching whiffs of it on my wrist throughout the day. I’d rate it a solid 10/10!

When I first tried Bois du Portugal, I really liked it, but I didn’t think its performance justified the price. After giving it a few more chances, however, I became convinced that it lasts comfortably through the day with moderate projection. It performs even better when applied generously. Most recently, I compared it side by side with Nicolai New York Intense. In my opinion, this is the finest expression of the fougère genre. It beautifully combines masculinity, the classic barbershop style, vintage charm, and a modern touch—all in perfect balance. To me, it’s a masterpiece in this category. New York Intense, on the other hand, feels much more old-fashioned and better suited to an older audience. Its performance is somewhat stronger and the scent is sharper, but I don’t think it’s as universally appealing. When I came across a great deal, I bought it immediately. It turned out to be an excellent purchase and has become one of the finest pieces in my collection.

My favorite Creed up to this point, wow this stuffs good, can’t think of anything nowadays that smells like this. It’s very vintage citrus and woods but there’s something about this that just smells so damn good and feels so unique compared to anything else from the way the bitter citrus greets you to the airy transition as a lavender and sandalwood+cedarwood unfolds with like a cool soapy mint to it super expensive smelling, this smells much brighter and interesting than Original Santal’s. It feels like a slight mix between Original Santal and Vetiver having that old school masculine freshness with bright woods and a soapiness. Bois du Portugal performs about average on me I get 1-1.5 hours projection than it settles as a skin scent for a couple, which I normally would be a bit disappointed by but by Creed standards it sits above average if it was any worse it wouldn’t be fb worthy to me give this a shot for an old fashioned fresh!

At first when I tried this perfume on the test paper, I think the scent is good for men at 45 - 60 or someone who is truly handsome. So I didn't bought it with me. However, I had a chance to try it on my skin and my clothe for 1-2 hours, and that was the first time I changed my mind for this scent. It was more friendly than I thought. However, I still didn't my it. On my 3rd time, I heard that this scent was discontinued. So I made up my mind and bought it. I tried it on my daily life, full wear. And it has become one of the best fragrance in my collection now! The opening scent is western herbal and spicy. I'm not quite fond of it at first. But when I'm used to it, I really enjoy the moment. The dry down scent is gentle aromatic with small sillage, which makes it really easy to use, even in Asia summer, it's still usable. RIP Olivier Creed. Thank you for sharing this scent to the world.

My first Creed. And I just got it because of the name :) It blew me away on first sniff. It is noble. That's the word. Absolutely elegantly noble scent, and yes, reminds me of my father and Portugal. I feel like getting into one of those woody and cosy Cafes at Chiado, Lisboa, for a cuppa coffee with Pastel de Nata... Beautiful. Its from now on my favourite perfume. Sidenote: I am a woman but I am used to wear manly scents and this one tends masculine although, for me, Id consider it unisex -- but not for all women. If you aren't used to musky and vetiver scents, try first! The vetiver and the lavender here are magically gentle, and it never screams. The scent is like a well dressed gentleman in his tweed, with a cane and Panama hat, who enjoys smoking from his pipe while glancing at the lowering sun into the Tejo in a golden afternoon at Castelo São Jorge, in Lisboa. Lovely.

My favorite from the house of Creed.... I have an older batch 2016 that I wear and it lasts longer and projects more than current formulations. With that said, it is still very poor in sillage and projection especially for the price point. On newer batches I get about 1 hour of arms length then it crashes into skin scent. I am lucky to get 3.5-4 hours length before it is gone. The older formulations I get maybe an extra 1.5-2 hours of longevity which again, is very poor. There is nothing else out there that I have found that scratches the itch that this scent produces. It is beautiful, elegant and gentlemanly. It is more for a mature, confident man and some would dare go as far smells dated which I disagree with. The scent is a love for me.... the performance, longevity, and projection are poor at best especially for the price point even at discounters.

Still in my top 5 of all time. Masculine, Simple, classic, classy, elegant, smooth, rich, depth, intoxicating, what else can I say? This is the gentleman of gentleman fragrance. New York Intense is similar but Bois Du Portugal is still my favorite for this DNA. This is just 'perfect'. The new batches are nowhere near as good as the older bottles but they're still good. They're pretty much BDP Cologne/lite. I've been fortunate enough to have batches dating back to 2003. Currently I have 2013 & 2015 bottles and a new F batch. Prehaps if you left this for 3-5 years it would devolope towards the older bottles. F batches are still very good! I use the F batches to save the older juice, the older bottles are just richer and darker whereas the F batches are good for day to day use and older batches for special occasions. 10/10 Masterpiece

I think here at length about Bois Du Portugal. Regularly..... This fragrance is special, as are many unique things that I have in my life at this time. The building that I now serve clients inside of was built almost 80 years ago. I’d be willing to bet that every person who says BDP is dated would quickly accept ownership of that nearly 80 year old property promptly. Let’s not forget that stones and pieces of steel and glass and concrete were used to build the building,making it in fact millions of years old in a sense. That’s dated. No one who dislikes dated things would care for that. Bois Du Portugal is special, and unique'classy and beautifully refined.it doesn’t smell like the newest fragrances. Its stood the test of time and won. Older buildings stand, some newer buildings fall. BDPis here to stand.

Wow what a total surprise, I did not expect it to smell so powdery and tarty as the dry down reminds me of the pez candy. It truely is a pleasant smell that is similar to Dior Eau Sauvage but w more powder and tartiness on the dry down. It’s so lovely EDIT: I own 2 bottles now, one from 22’ and one from 18’. I much prefer the 18’ bottle more bc it is more sweeter & tarty from the bergamot whereas the 22’ was more sharp and astringent when you first spray and the bergamot is toned down but the lavender is toned up. Both are great in their own ways but I prefer the slightly sweeter 18’ batch. EDIT 2: Current batch is actually stronger than older batches and dry-downs are both similar. I own over 50 fragrances and this is easily top 5 for me, I would consider this a masterpiece.

bois du portugal by Pierre Bourdon. it starts woody, aromatic, green and citrusy. then develops into a dry spicy mid and base that is intertwined with labdanum, woods and musky(muscenone like) ambergris like facets. i feel the traditional green/aromatic accords like pine, cypress, synth moss, lavender, patchouli in it. spices are like cinnamon and nutmeg to my nose also a bit of pepperiness. there is a hint of coumarin like sweetness to balance the bitterness but its mostly green woody and aromatic. woods here are so beautiful, its like a textured dry cabin like woodines with slight smokiness and sweetness to it. the wood is similar to some western oud accords that is done nowadays like nassomato pardon. it smells classic and i personally really love it.

Another Creed masterpiece!...this fragrance is perfect in every way...the consummate mature gentleman perfume...contrary to the maligning narratives (funny, you don’t see these narratives about poop perfumes — like people saying “you smell like a stinky Arab/indian”), this doesn’t smell remotely like “old man”...it’s smells gentlemanly & distinguished...the scent is timeless The composition is pretty simple and straightforward; this combines bergamot & lavender on top and wood in the base...the bergamot & lavender is fresh/aromatic and amalgamates into a unique, natural smarties/sweet tarts-like smell...there also is a slight supportive peppery component...just a perfect scent

Spicy, warm, dry, creamy, powdery, comforting. It’s as if you are smelling the whole lavender plant, from its roots to stem, leaf, and flower. Older batches have some of the best sandalwood you can get. I’m sure it’s still great. This is just a genius combination of ingredients. Masterpiece fragrance. When I got my first sample from the boutique back in 2018 I thought it was the best fragrance I’d ever put my nose on. I had anticipated something beautiful and it far exceeded my expectations. I wore it with pride and utmost pleasure. I still believe it is the classiest fragrance out there in its older formulations. I’m actually not entirely sure why I wear anything else.

Favorite scent from Creed. This scent embodies what Creed should be about, class elegance, and timeless scents. Smells like a gentleman, someone who you’d love to bring home to your parents. Smells like a barbershop but is freshened up, and kept classy by its foresty notes, quite literally smells like walking through an old forest in northern europe. Slightly spicy but very kept moderate. Performance could be better, good for about 2-3 hours then just becomes mid. Will stay on your skin for a long time. Although Creed has had its controversies and its reformulations, this scent stands independent of that. Great scent overall, well done timeless fragrance.

I have samples of Bois du Portugal and wore it a few times. A charming and elegant fragrance. It should be simplistic by the notes, yet it has more than one face. You can experience a timeless barber shop smell, some retro citrusy chypre style smell and a soft woody drydown. New York is louder, more complex and gives you more joy if you need "perfume" satisfaction, but to be honest, Bois du Portugal has more charm, refinement and modernity. It talks softly, but tells some good story. Longevity is good for 6 hours, sillage is moderate with 2-3 sprays. I will gladly accept BdP as a signature when I reach my fourties.

Remember as a kid when you got that fresh cut? The smell, the feeling, the confidence? Well picture that and add a boatload of class to the mix. Yea, this is that. Beautiful. I say four sprays, maybe 6-8 if you wanna be a bit much... for me it’s strong so it gets overwhelming at times. Day time, for the warmer months IMO, but do you, I think it’s pretty versatile. The dry down is not light, it’s somewhat heavy, which is cool, but it’s why I say go easy on the sprays. Signature scent worthy. Btw ... I have an older batch, with the black cap. The new stuff probably does not last like most of the new Creed

It would be very nice for a classy gentleman. There’s nothing incredibly striking about it, but it’s special in the sense that it makes you smell pleasant and mature. It’s perfectly good for daily use, but if you expect something extraordinary, it may disappoint you. However, if you’re looking for a clean, mature, and wearable niche fragrance, this is spot on. The performance is not bad at all — it lasts through the day and is mostly noticeable within half a meter. I’m saving certain fragrances for ages 45 and above, and this is definitely one I’ll use at that age — so it’s on my list for that reason.

I gasped upon smelling this. I was utterly shocked. I had only known creed for Aventus and SMW and was utterly bored by both and was very ready to accept that it was good for boring rich people (said very, very bitterly, I know) and few other demographics. This was incredible, very beautiful and masculine but in an elegant, refined way. I was terrified. How could I face my friends and family again after saying that I liked a creed fragrance? How could I ever cope? I didn't get it because, well, it's a creed fragrance with a creed price tag, but every day I will yearn for it...

This smells like old money in the most literal sense. Not new wealth. Not aspiration. The real thing. Lavender and cedar and something slightly powdery underneath that references a specific era of masculine elegance that most modern perfumery has completely abandoned. Rockefeller would have worn this. JP Morgan would have worn this. That's not an exaggeration — it's the closest thing to a historical document that perfumery produces. If you have to ask whether it's for you, it probably isn't. If you already know, nothing else comes close.

Quite simply one of the best men’s fragrances ever created. There is beautiful clarity in the notes - lavender, spices/pepper and contrary to what @Ties That Bind wrote, the woods are not only obvious, they are exquisite. Bois du Portugal is not a “mysterious”, “seductive” nor “whimsical” fragrance, as you probably have already deduced by doing any amount of research into this Creed masterpiece. It is the essence of masculine class and refinement with the allure you might find in someone or something with clear purpose.

Just picked up a new bottle of this one. Man is it still good or what?! Getting really good longevity (great for a Creed) and pretty good projection on it. Its such a mature woody aromatic fragrance. It reeks of class and sophistication. Def 40+ crowd unless youre a mature for your age, old money type of person. Perfect for a fancy dinner, church or a special occasion. Its just so nice. My fav from the house next to Original Santal and Viking. If this is actually being discontinued, thats a major foul on Creeds part.

Straight lavender sweet tarts candy with a gorgeous woody drydown. This stuff is fucking beautiful. However, there are little to no scenarios where I would want to smell like a spicy, lavender-flavored sweet tart. Sure I get that it’s “masculine” and grandpa-ish blah blah blah, but really I believe that comes from the age of this type of scent profile itself. It does not smell like any grandpas I’ve came across; you’ll just smell like sophisticated lavender candy in a suit. 10/10 scent profile with great longevity.

This is just wonderful. Tried it 7 years ago and decided it was too 'old' for me. Today, I feel totally differently about it. I'm obviously much older but this doesn't feel massively dated. Yes the lavender can be quite reminiscent of grandpa but there's enough vetiver in the dry down to being into the modern era. It's so warm and comforting. I love New York intense and also Manuel Cross' new (ish) Targhee Forest. I'm not sure which is best out of these three but they are all magnificent. Overall: 9/10.

First of all, those who make negative comments about this scent are either teenagers or quite young, because this scent profile is for a mature individual, and not everyone can pull it off anyway. It is extremely elegant, very classy, the scent of a gentleman who has reached a certain point in life — just like Green Irish Tweed and Royal Oud — a directly masculine scent, with lavender, bergamot, light floral breezes, adorned with soft woody accords... an amazing ‘manly man’ fragrance.

@Talleyrand in all my years on Fragrantica, I have never read such a brilliant and awesome review :) Listen you "rugged, manly son of a bitch", you have convinced me that the only way to be capable of "taming wild beasts and seducing unsuspecting damsels" is to "embrace the olfactory assault of his particular scent"; Bois du Portugal is the fragrance for me. I thank thee, you "doused in testosterone" cockwaffling fragrance enthusiast :) Oh my dayyzzz you da man :)

This to me is the most beautiful lavender note I have ever smelled; this alone would be enough, but the dry woods, gorgeous bergamot opening, and masculine oak moss in the drydown are stunning and add a depth and volume which pushes this from amazing lavender to a true classic and "luxury" category. I understand the gripes with modern Creed but my latest F batch is both robust and truly beautifula nd worth the price. Ive smelled few fragrances on this level.

Maxaroma has 120mL Bois du Portugal bottles in stock, still. Dark, dank juice. I love this scent. It's old man-ish but it's so classy, comforting, and long lasting. I think its a work of art. It's the 1970 Hemi Cuda of fragrances. Sure, there are faster, cooler, more expensive cars, but this is a league of it's own. Aventus is the Aston Martin or Porsche GT3. But when you want an old school, manly scent, reach for this.

Rumor mill says Bois du Portugal and a few others from Creed are on the chopping block for retirement and vaulting. I grabbed a brand new bottle just in case. Lovely woody, citrus blend unlike anything you have ever smelled. Masculinity in a bottle. If the rumor is true, this is going to be very valuable and desired in the future. Grab your bottle soon. Spicy, zesty, woody and with a unique take on Lavender. I don’t get those who say this is an old man fragrance or something that should have stayed in the 80s. It’s beautiful, powerful and intriguing. The lavender in particular doesn’t immediately scream that sleepy aromatherapy vibe that so many lavender based fragrances often do. Give this a go. It’s great. A good daily go-to fragrance.

(2013 batch) pretty standard well off, older man smell. Simpler but similar to Eau Sauvage Edt. (With way better longevity) 5-6 sprays with amazing performance. Citrus drops at about the 2 hr mark and it’s a slight ambroxan, creamy sandalwood beast. Lavender is more subtle than most dad smells, so I would say this could more easily be worn by younger guys. All weather all situation.

Love BdP. The one thing I want to say is that it has a sparkling quality. Whether it's a dash of Creed ambergris, or something else, I don't know. It just has a sprinkling of magic that aerates and lifts it, conjuring a hot, dry Mediterranean forest in late summer, before moving to the dense green dry down. Also reading though the notes list - how does this smell so green?!?

BdP is definitely a man's fragrance. VERY classy and those that describe this one as an "old man's" fragrance are no doubt millenials whose tastes are still in their infancy.I won't bother to list the notes as everyone knows what they are. If you want to smell good at anytime of the year for any occasion, this is for you if you have the spare change. NOT for little girls.

This is what i imagine Atticus Finch and old school mobsters smell like. Starts with barbeshop citrus but dries down to something reminiscent of a dusty shelves with old dollar bills in them. Longevity and projection is insane. Price for that alone is justified! This is the ultimate barbershop scent to rule them all

The one and only creed IMO. Exudes class and elegance. Opens with the citrus notes and instantly u can detect the lavender below. Its between a woody aromatic and a fougere. Just excellent work by Pierre Bourdon. That said you will impress more blokes than ladies with this. I find the ladies prefer GIT.

Today, after more than 10 years, I sprayed this perfume again and was impressed by how timeless this fragrance is. An incredible combination of lavender and woody aromatic notes. A classic fragrance of aristocratic touch, somewhat conservative, intended for middle-aged and older men. Pefect.

I wore this back to back with viking. I can not for the life of me understand why these behemoths were discontinued. They reek of masculinity. I only used a few sprays and I still catch a whiff 10 hours later. My 5ml decant is not going to last long. Its time to hunt down a bottle.

has anybody feel BDP has similar vibe with Tom Ford Grey Vetiver EDT? Citrusy blast, almost too sour, with strong vetiver mid and classier bases of woodiness. If Frank Sinatra wore this in 1960s, then Grey Vetiver would be John Mayer's (Im sorry jazz cats) perfume of choice.
