Green Irish Tweed

Creed, a fragrance house I don't shy away from calling overrated and overpriced, as most of their creations don't hold up to the expectations, expectations that are set highly due to the premium price tags. But when it comes to Green Irish Tweed, I nearly find myself making an exception. Not because of how groundbreaking the scent itself is, but because what it means to me personally. Growing up in a mountain village (not in Ireland, just to be clear), I was constantly surrounded by greenery and natural, green/herbal smells. The distinct smell of pine also played a huge role, although I'm yet to find that one pine fragrance that transports me back to the tall fir forests that I used to roam alone with my trusty dogs. But so far, Green Irish Tweed is the one fragrance that gets closest to reminding me of that place, even if it doesn't feature any piney accords. But yes, I also quite enjoy the scent, even without the emotional attachment. It opens with a very bright and nose-piercing citric blast, getting both the energizing, sweet and sour lemon, and the more bitter, refreshing bergamot. They are accompanied by an intensely herbaceous and grassy vervain, slightly clean and fresh. The peppermint doesn't go unnoticed, but it doesn't scream too loud for attention either; just a proper cooling, minty undertone, well-integrated. The galbanum plays one of the most important roles here in keeping the structure 'green' with its smooth green forest kind of smell. It's not resinous or "fatty" as in other compositions, just pleasantly green and bitter. The cooling sensation from the peppermint slowly morphs into a slightly aquatic, watery vibe - like freshly cut grass in the morning still filled with dew. That's the violet leaf doing its thing. Some aromatic florals such as the geranium and lavender append their herbaceous attributes to the scent with a subtle sweetness derived from the lavender. The violet sort of softens things with a powdery touch, but neither takes the whole composition into a floral-dominant direction. Once at the base, things soften down both in strength and overall complexity. You get the ambergris that does the heavy lifting regarding the salty, aquatic accord, while some dry woodiness serves as the grounding component, although it is covered in oakmoss, bringing a damp earth accord which is only fitting as a finale here. It's an overall hard scent to hate; well-blended and of high quality, mimicking the smell of each particular note quite accurately. For a green fragrance lover, this might be borderline the endgame of the genre, but I'm reluctant to call it that. The nostalgia does much of the heavy-lifting here for me. In classic Creed fashion, performance is not something to phone home about. While longevity did surpass my expectations with close to 9 hours on my skin, projection and sillage were quite mellow, not getting much pushing power 2-3 hours in. Those first few hours, fairly decent, but hardly room-filling. Not terribly mad at that, however. I can live with it. After all, nature was also quite gentle and calm back in the mountain village I lived, so it's only fitting. You won't be finding Green Irish Tweed a hard scent to wear at any point in time. It's extremely versatile, signature worthy, with spring being so to say, the season demographic. Outside of extremely cold winter days, I could wear Green Irish Tweed anywhere, anytime. While the scent itself here is quite lively and "in a good mood", I actually find it quite introspective and almost quiet. During the time I spent in that mountain village, a walk in the forest and the green-covered hills was part of routine. Not a day went by without at least one hour walk of pure silence. It was only me, my thoughts, and my dogs, and the occasional deer or boars we'd stumble across. And so, I very much tie this fragrance to those moments, especially since I got my 10ml Green Irish Tweed vial around the last two months I spent there, when I was completely immersed into the place, enjoying every last moment I still had. So even though the price to pay for a full bottle here is still quite out of my budget and not exactly what I'd consider worth rushing to buy, Green Irish Tweed will hold a special place for me, so I'll always keep a 10ml vial around. Got a new F batch a week ago, so decided to put some words on my experience with that after a few days of wear We're all different, so the perception of performance might vary, that being slightly or largely Performance wise: With 5-7 sprays I get anything between 6-9 hours with this. 2 sprays behind each ear, one on my hair, one on my throat and one of my neck FYI For me, I still get whiffs even after 5-6 hours of wear My better half could still catch a faint smell even after 8 hours, even though it was wearing rather thin at that point Decent projection for the first 4 hours I'd say As for the scent - this is the only perfume I can't get enough of. The type of smell you keep uncapping the bottle to simply get a glimpse of I remember reading someone saying this smells like an old mans closet, old suits and perhaps a hint of mothball added into the mix. It's not that inaccurate. But it's in a good way. Clean, fresh and certainly floral with hints of grass. The grass note is however, at least to my nose, not dominant, but it's there It's somewhat light, yet dense enough I get what people are saying when they mention the gentleman side of things here, it would certainly fit into the category of what a refined man could be wearing. For me, I'm not a nerd. If I enjoy a scent as much as I enjoy GIT, I don't care when or where I wear it Objectively, this could be worn all year long. To me, it's the perfect spring / early summer fragrance Cool Water is somewhat similar yet it doesn't come close to being defined as an alternative in my book. GIT has a very unique formula to it. It's insanely unique, and at least to me, with my bottle originating from' the F batch, it projects decently, and lasts long enough. That, combined with how heavenly well blended this specific scent truly is, I'd actually recommend anyone in doubt to give it a go Sample first if possible. It's just one of those (few) scents you fall in love with. I'll probably keep a bottle at any given time, as long as the longevity and overall smell won't change for the worse Give it a go. It's immaculate Tip if you are purchasing used bottles: The bottle is all black: in order to determine how much juice is left: I weighed my brand new bottle at roughly 396 grams. Thumb of rule is 1 ml of water equals to 1 grams. Despite oils and whatnot, I'd say it's fairly accurate to calculate that ~396 grams equals a full bottle. Subtract 100, and you'll be looking at an empty bottle at roughly 296 grams, give or take one gram or two (same approach for 50 ml bottles) Most people have a kitchen weight at home, so you could prompt any seller to verify the remaining liquid this way. Most would probably oblige, so be vary if they decline if you are not entirely sure Good luck

Green Irish Tweed has proven itself to be one of the most timeless fragrances ever created. Everything about this perfume is just fantastic. At the top, we get an invigorating blast of fresh, clean, green, and subtle spicy notes. These top notes will continue into the mid, but you will also start picking up on some wonderful floral notes that soften up at the base with some nice woody and powdery accords. There is also something musky, possibly the ambergris, that makes this lean masculine, though women could pull it off. Green Irish Tweed has a nostalgic vibe, but never smells dated or overly mature. It smells classic, but not necesarily barbershop or old-school forgere-like. It’s hard to pin-down, but there is something so wonderfully gentleman and polished about this. I think is best suited ages 18 and up so most could pull it off. As for occasion, this is incredibly versatile. I think it works best on spring days, but there is not a time or season when this cannot be worn. Perfect for work and casual day-time wear, but I wear this on nights out as well. One area where GIT shines is performance. I can spray this on before work at the 7am, and it will be there until at least 4 pm guaranteed. Projects very well for at least 4 hours so expect compliments. Another thing worth mentioning about GIT, or any Creed Fragrance for that matter, is the price. This stuff is not cheap, especially if bought from an official Creed retailer. If you don’t want to spend that much money, there are definitely alternatives. The best alternative would be Armafs Tres Nuit, they are VERY close. Many also swear that this is similar to Davidoffs Cool Water. I always thought there were many differences, but they do share something in common. Overall, Green Irish Tweed by Creed earns an easy 10 out of 10

I wound up getting a new bottle. Its pretty diffusive, i put it on about an hr ago first time and it remains noticable in the air without getting close to skin and sniffing. Not sure how anybody could smell this side by side with cool water and not have the beautiful iris in the g.i.t. jump out and slap them in the face, making them rather different. Tres Nuit tried to replicate this at least but just comes off as a mess in comparison, albeit wearable on its own. And honestly thats just the opening, only a fraction of the overall fragrance reminds of cool water as its drying down. Ill report back. Edit: so i have to say, this 2025 bottle performs pretty well. You get that amazing opening for about an hour, and it does project too. Got 2 unsolicited compliments with 5 sprays. I also smell it in the air around me about 2-3 hours, and then it came closer to the skin. However i started doing physical work and when my body heated up, that ambergris accord drydown started pumping again for a while! I feel like the opening and mid are a little thinned out in feel compared to mid 2010s bottles, but its performing decently. And that drydown with the "ambergris" is as good as i ever remember it, i got a ~2015 erolfa recently and it has the same creed signature drydown as that. Wasnt cheap, but i AM happy, especially considering how bad some people say the performance is. No freaking way id pay retail, not even half retail for something that lasts this long. But it smells of its price and you can get them for ~200 usd 100ml all day so if you got the dough and you enjoy this profile, treat yourself.

After going round the houses with different scent profiles and houses. I am gravitating towards easy to wear quality blended, clean masculine fragrances. As a mature man I’ve realised that more of everything is not always better. Rewind 40 years to the release of Green Irish Tweed. Who would have thought a 40 year old fragrance would have aged so well. This fragrance really is timeless. I am not a big fan of older smelling fragrances. Although I appreciate the history, they often smell too ashy, musty or anamalic for today’s tastes, including my own tastes. Fear not GIT is a total masterpiece. This smells fresh without smelling like a shower gel. It’s less green and more blue IMO. Has a watery, not salty freshness. The longevity for this profile is excellent, projection is strong for the first 2 hours. Versatility is the key to this fragrance. You can wear GIT in every season and occasion you can think of perfectly. You can find this for under £200 for 100ml. Hard to believe that Creed gets so much grief for the prices of their fragrances. When designers are pushing these prices now. The more I smell Creed I am really enjoying the house. Most from Creed are easy to wear and versatile while being unique quality blends. It’s all well and good having show stopper fragrances but realistically how often can you wear them. If you want timeless elegance, GIT is a no brainer. Sure you can get close to GIT with Cool Water. Unfortunately Cool Water just doesn’t have the same depth, class or quality of GIT.
