Millesime 1849

-Wednesday, August 21st 830am- First & Foremost - Thanks to Rodney and Louis @ The Creed Boutique in New York for the excellent service and explaining their experience of wearing Creed Millesime 1849. So I received my package from UPS Tuesday morning 8/20/2013, but decided to open it the following day. The excitement began to increase as I shuffled through mounds of Styrofoam balls and various samples of Creed recommendations only to be greeted by a well-secured box layered in bubble wrap of Millesime 1849. "Hooray!" The moment I've been waiting for.... While carefully removing the plastic bubble wrap the idea dawned on me to take a shower first before applying this rare fragrance. After showering, drying-off and getting dressed, here-goes; I applied 2-sprays behind each ear, and 1-spray to the back of the neck. Instantly I said, "Wow, this smells really good." In Millesime 1849, the opening impressions of ylang-ylang, jasmine, vanilla, and a hint of both cedar-and-bergamot are noticeably paired-well making this a wonderful Creed to add to a fragrance collection. In the dry-down this fragrance gets even better because of its multi-faceted quality which Creed is known to offer; The sandalwood, agarwood, patchouli, and musk gather intensity but not a cloying effect such as Original Vetiver(*which is still a good scent too). Also, I sense a hint of ambergris even though its not listed in the notes. For people who are thinking of acquiring m1849, but have not had the opportunity to sniff it, I am reassuring you this can easily be worn during the spring, summer, and fall seasons; also perfect for any time of day. It can be used casually or formal, and may even become a signature-scent if the availability comes about. Overall, I can't imagine why anyone would give this fragrance a thumbs down - NO WAY!! If this ever becomes something Creed decides to release as a permanent scent I would gladly like to own a 2nd bottle. Many people might have thoughts of wondering if M1849 is better than Aventus, Millesime Imperial, or Green Irish Tweed....And to be honest, Its not that kind of party. It's a RARE-SCENT-FOR-NOW, and I envision this standing somewhere along the lines of perhaps a Tom Ford Oud Wood and between Creed Original Vetiver during the dry down phase. I did not say its like those just mentioned, but it could stand in comparison & contrast with those mentioned. Also, few reviewers on Basenotes & Fragrantica say M1849 is a floral cologne; and I can see where people feel this way although if you give this 30-minutes to build a relationship with, this fragrance will capture your appreciation for quality, and you will start getting wafts of different notes that you'll certainly enjoy. Remember, this is only my sole opinion and I grew to appreciate Creed for its quality and variation which I feel many fragrance makers lack. This is not Gucci, Cartier, Polo, or Chanel,.... This is CREED; and Millesime 1849 makes my 5th from this fragrance house that I enjoy (Millesime Imperial, Aventus, Pure White Cologne, Originial Vetiver & Millesime 1849). I look to add others down the line such as royal water, silver mountain water, royal oud, jardin d' amalfi, and maybe even Windsor if I am fortunate enough. Hope this wasn't too long of a review.

Beautiful Fragrance, my new favorite from Creed. Similar to Royal Oud in my opinion , but better in every way ! Fresher, smoother, just a all around man’s Fragrance. Not a younger mans fragrancr either, 30 and up. It’s very sophisticated. I know it’s supposed to be unisex , but I think it’s definitely masculine. I like Viking , but this is everything Viking should’ve been. As for the notes, I’m not good enough to distinguish many notes, but I get the cedar, vanilla, patchouli and maybe a lil oud, but Creed oud , not the real stanky oud. I Love it !

This reminds me of late 90s or early 2000s scent from my moms makeup/lotion bag, which is a very powdery floral and vanilla scent that so beautifully crafted because of how smooth it is. In a way it provides a very calming and soothing nature to it that gives it a very elegant feeling. I can see this scent being very appropriate for an outdoor spring wedding. It is a shame that this is a limited release as it is one of my favorite Creed's fragrances, the whiffs that I get from it is very addicting and pleasant to the senses.

The debate between whether or not this scent is reminiscent of Royal Oud seems to be fierce. To me, the opening is very similar to Royal Oud - if not for the florals, it'd be nigh on indistinguishable. This scent, I believe, is a must have for any die-hard Creed fan. It's gorgeous, and epitomises everything that the House of Creed once stood for. Longevity is good, and sillage is respectable. A beautiful, woodsy fragrance with a lighter air to it compared to scents such as Original Vetiver.

This is not comparable to Royal Oud at all... It is very unique I love it but it is also very rare and hard to find... I had to buy it in a bid 4 times. It has very strong projection and sillage. If I have to choose only 5 perfumes for life time it will be: - Matsukita from Clive Christian - Millesime 1849 from Creed - NOUVEAU MONDE from Louis Vuitton - De La Nuit No 3 from Roja Dove - Overture from Amouage

Vintage, woody, green, musky, yellow flowers, smooth, well rounded, balanced, complex, old school, safe, british style, masculine yet soft. It makes you feel like listening to refined classical music. One of Creed's best releases, but nothing very special. I am 91/100 on this effort. Excellent.

Beautiful fragrance. Reminds me of a dance between a mix of Creed Royal Oud and the florals from 1872 Clive Christian for women, both of which are amazing in their own regard. There is a symphony of scents that work together in a complex way, for which I admire Creed.

It’s for people who love retro basically what it say 1849 it’s a 1970 and down scent profile so when you wear it you're wearing a vintage scent with high quality blend!

tough to find fragrance..glad i have one...very soft but pleasant

Millesime 1849 has a good reputation, and as a white floral-dominant fragrance, it's bright and pleasant and probably has some unisex appeal, despite perhaps being more traditionally feminine. The bergamot gives it a strong opening but most of my experience of this is dominated by the ylang ylang heart. I hardly get any of the woody base, even after multiple hours on skin. In that respect, it's tough for me to imagine pulling this off on its own, though some to use this as a blend with other fragrances. As a sweet white floral with some woody undertones, I liken Millesime 1849 to Tom Ford Shanghai Lily, though Millesime 1849 is a little less sweet. Millesime 1849 rings a little more sophisticated by Shanghai Lily is a little more accessible. Certainly an interesting scent and something that one might ponder layering with, this isn't something I would wear beyond testing. Even if the opening is a little too floral for my taste, that it dries down so floral is a bit of a turnoff and it's a bit too feminine on my skin. Still, a nice exclusive Creed entry (and an expensive one, at $390 for 75ml) and a welcome try if it sounds good. 7 out of 10

Nice enough. Pleasant fragrance. Refined, stable and unintrusive projection. Nothing out of the ordinary. Powdery, yellow flowers on a mild patch of patchouli. It's good, but not great. A little bit flamboyant, but still masculine leaning. Overall, it's hard to dislike. 3.5/5 for quality of ingredients and composition. Just not much artistry here. Nothing interesting or innovative; just another oldschool frag.

Update 2022: Just okay! Not top of the list for Clif or myself, though I love unisex fragrances. Husband wears the Imperial M. We agree; Millesime leans more toward unisex. This may stay fresh and clean in humid weather. I'd wear this for casual/everyday but not special or business related occasions.

I was intensely excited for the release of this new fragrance from Creed, and had high expectations based on the exclusivity by which it was sold in very limited quantity. Unfortunately that anticipation quickly turned to disappointment with my first trial. The opening briefly peaked my interested with a nice blending of citrus bergamot, medicinal oud, and woody cedar. Quickly this soon fades, leaving an intensely cloying and powdery yellow floral accord behind. It is here that I believe restraint could have been applied to the amount of ylang-ylang included (initial smelling caused me to sneeze... Never a good sign). Fortunately after a while this does become more subdued, and faint hints of jasmine, patchouli, and sandalwood pierce through. If after reading ingredient notes you expect an oud-based fragrance, you will definitely be disappointed as I was. This is a sickly sweet, ultra-feminine, yellow floral number. Here's to looking ahead to what's in the horizon next year for Creed. ... . (62)

I had the opportunity to get a spray of this hard to find scent in Harrods this afternoon. I was excited to give it a go due to it's exclusivity, which means it's nigh-on impossible to find elsewhere. It's...ok, nice enough. At first I wasn't all that impressed, but the dry down is quite nice. I'd agree with the user 'Lightning' in the sense that it's a gentler, smoother Royal Oud. The sandalwood definitely takes center stage once it's dried down, whilst the floral notes take the edge of somewhat. It's a decent fragrance, however, given that it is only sold in perhaps the most famous shop in the world, I don't think it quite lives up to the promise. I'd wear it, but I certainly wouldn't buy it at it's going rate. Creed get some flack for their pricing, and whilst some I'd happily pay full price for, this isn't one of them.

Nothing like Royal Oud folks. This is a very powdery and musky floral. Wear whatever floats your boat...but the opening is overwhelmingly feminine. A man could pull off the drydown...but that opening is just powdery Jasmine.

I bought a Creed sample vial pack from one of those decant websites. This is one of the bottles that me and my wife decided to buy. I was happy when the bottle arrived. That green bottle looks a lot better in person than it does online. That is where my enthusiasm stops. This seemed a lot more floral from the bottle than it did from my sample. No big deal I thought, I really loved the dry down more than anything. Not this time.. I will say the bottle lasts longer than the sample.....but this is still a weaker performer. I do still enjoy it, but it was just a bit disappointing. I know there wasn't a mistake because they smell very much the same. The sample was from a year ago so there is that. I should know to expect subtle diff from a Millesime. I am just particular with little differences...especially when floral notes are involved. On my skin I get 2 hours of projection followed by a skin scent for another 2 hours max. I gave the entire bottle to my wife and she loves it. I feel like this should be marketed toward women, but I'm sure a guy could pull it off better than me. I am just overly sensitive toward floral. It is the same reason I cannot wear Neroli Portrofino. I knew I should have trusted my gut. It seems that ten different reviews have ten different opinions about the notes. I got stuck with a heavy floral batch : I did have some success layering this with Original Santal. It was a good combo for sure. That is probably the only way I will wear this again. Even if I were not sensitive to heavy floral I still don't think 1849 does enough in terms of longevity and originality. It just doesn't justify the price tag.

Millesime 1849 may not make sense or seem palatable to the crowds who love and gravitate towards mass appealing stuff like Dior Savauge, Creed Aventus, Acqua Di Gio. Such are easy-to-wear, easy-reach fragrances whose target audience consists of people who may not cultivate a deeper appreciation for the olfactive arts, but they do want to smell good when going out. I don't mean that as an attack, I just try to be understanding of why this one gets dislikes Go back in time. Creed Millesime 1849 is retro, like Chanel °5. Think Samsara. Think Guerlain Mitsouko. What I'm saying is, think vintage. Millesime 1849 is like a black and white photo that has turned brownish with time. If you're not a fan of that type, no judgement - it's not for everybody. I myself don't gravitate towards that style. But I try to study Millesime 1849 objectively from that point of view, and think 1849 gets undue hate due to misunderstanding. In my eyes Millesime 1849 is a slice of vintage perfumery of the past. If you realize that, then you will understand this one a little better, maybe even appreciate it even though it may still not be a painting you'd bid on, take home, and hang on the wall

I got the chance to try it today. It is really reminds me of many vintage bottles in my shelf. I feel the warm spicy opening at the beginning. It starts masculine and then gradually changes into a feminine version of it self. If you want to blind buy this bottle it would be helpful to tell you this perfume falls into vintage scent category Like Balenciaga Pour Homme, Theo Fennell Scent, Trussardi Uomo. They are not all similar but they all fall into the same category. The closest one to it is Theo Fennell Scent but in a softer way. Remember our ability to recall things is not the same.

Have always been eager to try this and have finally got my nose on it. My first reaction is that I like it but find it a bit too feminine for my personal tastes. By the way, this is nothing like Royal Oud. Not sure what that comparison came from. Initially the ylang ylang stands out and over time this fades and I get a nice creamy, slightly floral sandalwood and musk. If I was to compare it to another fragrance, I would probably say Kiehls Original Musk. It’s pleasant and I think it would be absolutely incredible on a lady. As others have mentioned, the longevity is not the best.
