Original Vetiver

When I sampled Green Irish Tweed, Original Santal and Original Vétiver they all shared a natural, elevated, lively quality that I find incredibly attractive. Loved them all but I was instantly taken with Original Vétiver though. My initial impression was that of a brilliant, clean, and elegant smell. A bright optimism beautifully contrasted by a subtle air of mystery and grounded sophistication. The scent paints a picture of green earth and bright open sky's in my mind that feel fresh and nostalgic. Like the endless potential of a fresh day's start that inspires you to be productive. I appreciate the seeming intentionality of design in how the bottle color reflects how the scent itself unfolds. The transparent glass at the top depicting it's clean and natural, bright citrus opening. Blending smoothly into the fresh green yet slight smoky earthiness. Fading into the dark base reminiscent shade and shadows as you descend admist the vetiver blades away from the light and closer to the dark soil from which they spring. There, the smoke and earthiness continues but is joined by musk with a hint of leather. However, the scent remains clean and classy throughout all the stages of the gradient. Just as the bottle appears in its color and chic silhouette. So people all over the net compare this to Mugler Cologne. Scent wise they exclaim it a 1 to 1 of OV. Moreover they argue that the price of MC makes OV not worth it since they are so similar. Then there are others who hold that Original Vétiver best Mugler Cologne by far. With better quality, depth and overall composition being near unanimous hallmarks of it superiority. Honestly I've never smelled Mugler Cologne so I can't chime in on the comparison. By it's description, I imagine it smells really good. And if they are as similar as many report, I'd probably really enjoy it. Yet even without having smelled Mugler Cologne, I'm equally as assured that it's nowhere near the natural quality of Original Vétiver. There's just something realistic about it. If MC lacks that, I'm doubtful it'll convincingly take me to the place OV does. I find the clarity that high-quality ingredients provides in a scent, acts to me in the same way a high-quality camera or tv screen does. In allowing the viewer to see and experience more vividly whatever is captured or being displayed. And as it stands I can truly say I've never smelled anything like Original Vétiver. I get a good 2 to 3hrs silliage 8+ hrs total on skin and days on clothes. Even after it becomes a skin scent I still get wafts as I move through the air. I love that OV is not a loud look at me kind of scent. It's quietly confident, composed and easygoing. Doesn't shout for attention but gets it still. It can be dress up or down. Worn anytime but imo shines the most in spring, summer and fall. And possibly sunny winter days which I have done. To my nose the scent doesn't come across as sweet at all. It is soapy yet smells amazing and high class. I'd say this is masculine. The women in my life agree. This was the very first niche fragrance in my collection. If you can't tell. I love it. Original Vétiver is a 10/10 for me UPDATE: 7/24/24 I do pick up a slight sweetness here that I didn't before. Not at all enough to consider it a sweet fragrance though. Update: 1/13/26 For those who care about these kinds of things. Based on info from another famous perfumer who also created fragrances for Creed, Ive come to believe that Alberto Morillas is the nose behind this creation (as he is Mugler Cologne).

A truly beautiful scent. One of the handful of Creed’s I ‘had’ to have in my collection. I’m a huge vetiver fan, it’s my single favorite note in the world of fragrance, and other commenters make me feel obliged to say: if you can’t smell vetiver in this one, you need to smell more vetivers. The vetiver in OV is smoother and less astringent than most, but it’s undeniably present throughout. I would echo those below stating that this performs closer to an EDC than an EDP. (Which in due fairness is to be expected with this type of scent.) I was rather disappointed by this though, if only because prior to my purchasing a full bottle, I tested this at Nordstrom. The test spray on my wrist from the Creed counter was incredibly potent. I could still smell it prominently, even after attempting to wash it off 4+ hours after application. With my full bottle, however, I’m lucky to detect anything at all from multiple sprays after 4 hours. I can only hope this improves with time... My first impressions of this scent was simply that of fruit loops. And some fresh cut grass I thought it was dramatically more feminine or unisex leaning than any other vetiver I had tried to date. The scent though, (with further experimentation and further development of my own nose and understanding), is a classical eau de cologne style scent, with prominent vetiver and neroli. It’s more vibrant than nearly any other scent I’ve ever tried. Incredibly realistic, organic, and three dimensional. It’s undeniably the most high quality smelling fragrance I’ve ever experienced. For those in the debate and dupe enthusiast camps, OV’s opening is remarkably similar to Mugler’s Come Together (f/k/a Mugler Cologne). The Mugler however is remarkably short lived, even in light of OV’s subpar performance, and the similarity does waver after the opening. In light of this undeniable similarity, it is worth noting that the Mugler is inherently synthetic smelling at all stages of wearing whereas OV smells wholly natural. MC is a shadow of OV, but a similar enough shadow to get the broad strokes of what OV smells like. For those of us here balling on a budget, who may be window shopping, there’s no greater value in the vetiver game than Rasasi’s Fattan. Or, if you’re looking for only a single vetiver scent to complete your collection at any price point, I’d have to give the overall nod to Guerlain’s Vetiver. I think the experience of the Guerlain is extremely rich and fulfilling. GV lacks in nothing that I enjoy among any of the other Vetivers I own or have tried. Dollar per dollar, or even irrespective of price, I think GV is simply a better fragrance with better performance and a more robust wearing experience than Creed’s OV, despite how much I enjoy OV. With that said, there are very few fragrances I’ve ever smelled that are quite so beautiful as OV is. OV is just stunningly pleasant while it’s around. If that’s what you’re after, (and who isn’t?) it’s certainly worth a try.

This is an edit; my first response will be kept below this new edit. UPDATED VERSION: After spending some time with this fragrance, I finally "get it." The reviewer above me said it "whispers gentleman," and I believe that's right. It's just one of those fragrances for the refined person: a doctor, a university professor, or other professionals. Some people prefer small fragrance bubbles (especially doctors or other professionals who have to get close to people). It is what it is. I had a GCMS analysis of it done, and it contains A LOT of musk, which would explain why its projection is muted quite a bit: versalide, galaxolide, ambrettolide, helvetolide, exaltolide, etc. And it's not just that it contains several musk at low doses: they're dosed quite high in the formula. So on the top end you've got lavender, ginger, bergamot, a citronellyl/lemongrass sour note, a limey sour note, which quickly fades and almost immediately just goes into the "flat" musk territory. Sure, it has lily of the valley, Iso E Supe, hedion, but after 20 minutes it's really down to the musk, and then some time later, a quiet vetiver whisper. I know it has vetiver because I can smell it, and also the readout says "vetivene" and other things which are natural chemicals found in vetiver. I'm not going to say I love this fragrance. And I would never recommend buying a full bottle unless you're a doctor (ha!) but seriously though. If you can get it at discounters somehow or a tester box, I'd recommend it. I've picked dup a second bottle, only because I found a cheap tester. My old, original post is below: This must be one of my most frustrating/disappointing fragrances. It opens up sharply with a lavender, a kind of citronellal plant, maybe a bit of lemongrass or lemon, and nice bergamot. Decent opening, I'd even say very nice because it leaves a nice citrus bubble around you for about 10 minutes. Then, it quickly fades--within 15 minutes, I have to bury my nose in my arm only to get a faint citronellol/lavender/bergamot whisper. Within 20 minutes it's barely detectable. The thing is, if you sniff your arm about an hour or two later, you can smell the vetiver, but it's very understated. Even 12 hours after you can still smell the faint vetiver (something like the far drydown of Encre Noir Sport, but who cares). I'm not sure how the original formulas were, but the one I have is definitely not impressive at all. Even something like Azzaro Chrome original is sticking around longer and projecting more. I would not recommend this--perhaps if you were a doctor and needed to be in close up with patients and wanted to wear something without offending. Other than that, I can't see a use for it, especially at that price point. I know that this fragrance is musk heavy (has about 5 or 6 musk, and I do know that musk can suppress a fragrance. Perhaps that's part of the problem.

I can’t add much to what many have already said. Anyone who loves Mugler Cologne cannot help but also love Original Vetiver, as the latter is a more masculine evolution compared to the unisex freshness of Mugler Cologne. The opening is citrusy, made sparkling by ginger; it then settles into notes of vetiver blended with sandalwood, with a base of musk and ambergris, a Creed signature. Compared to Mugler Cologne, the fragrance leans toward slightly more woody, masculine, and refined tones, but the similarity is undeniable. For me, Original Vetiver is the best fragrance from the Creed house and one of the best fragrances ever, but there is little that is truly “original” about it. Unfortunately, their very poor longevity is something they share, despite their very different price points. It’s a masterpiece, but the price is too high for the performance. No puedo añadir mucho a lo que ya han dicho muchos. Quien ama Mugler Cologne no puede no amar también Original Vetiver, ya que este último es una evolución más masculina en comparación con la frescura unisex de Mugler Cologne. L’apertura è agrumata, resa frizzante dallo zenzero; si assesta poi su le note del vetiver unito al sandalo e un fondo di muschio ed ambra grigia, marchio di fabbrica creed. La direzione del profumo rispetto a Mugler Cologne è verso toni un po’ più legnosi, maschili e rifiniti, ma la similitudine è innegabile. Per me Orginal Vetiver è il profumo più buono della casa Creed ed uno dei profumi piu buoni in assoluto, ma di Original ha poco. Anche la durata scarsissima li accomuna, purtroppo con costi molto differenti. E’ un capolavoro, ma troppo caro il prezzo rispetto alla resa.

I love this fragrance. I'm iffy about the performance, but saw a review saying that it's still there later and he just didn't smell on himself anymore, which I've had plenty like that so I'm optimistic. But it's one that I think is amazing and love to smell it on myself over and over, so I like to spray on the front of my forearm so that it mixes with my hair oil and lasts longer, instead of the overused pulse point of the wrist. It's the reason I also spray on my head-hair, it lasts a long time. Sorry for the weird visual but it's true. It really is great though, I have a few vetiver fragrances that I really like and wanted something different than most ones out there, due to trends being annoying in that regard sometimes. I actually do smell the vetiver, unlike a few out there that reviewed. It smells vaguely like Encre Noir Sport (not the original) in the background, which I love, but it only has a faint similarity to that. I wouldn't say it's at all the same fragrance, but I think maybe it's the same type/ratio of vetiver used perhaps? I completely disliked Tom Ford vetiver fragrance when I sampled it, which was a letdown since I love a lot of his fragrances, but it was not something that I would own. Other than EN Sport, Karl Lagerfield Bois de Vetiver is the other one that is just fantastic. Malin Goetz vetiver is nice too, very soft and smooth, but not quite a favorite. Creeds though, is just awesome. It's totally different than all of the other Creeds, and those that have similar DNA, like Millesime Imperial, SMW etc, that all smell different but too much alike in the DNA to collect more than one. I found this on Ebay from a very trusted seller, thank God it wasn't a dupe, smells exactly like the sample I used from Nordstrom and checked out otherwise as well, so I felt a little better about handing over that much $$ for a fragrance. I really think it's worth it at this point, just hope that the performance doesn't let me down in the long run. I'll have to do the "can you smell me?" test with a few coworkers or something to get a better feel. **update** very happy with the performance now. This is like other Creeds out there and truly needs a little time after a few sprays to get stronger.

I want to get a bottle of this before its all gone. I absolutely love this perfume, just curious for those who know... are the boxes on the new version different? If so can you DM me. Just dont want to get a bottle and it's the wrong one.... i know what this versions box looks like but does the new one say 2024 or anything different? . Anyway, I've always loved this perfume. It had a magical touch that on a hand full of perfume do for me. It's hard to describe, almost an aura that it's more than just a perfume. So unique and different it just stands out. Some examples of the others in this category are Aventus, SMW, Oud Wood etc. I don't know if it's thr wroma chemicals but it just makes it smell so super smooth. Although I absolutely love this it's not in my top 5 Creed. I would reach for others more often. However, i wear this when we have meetings etc it's not loud, it's subtle and just rounded in thr best way possible. Anyone complaining about longevity and projection just go find a different Vetiver perfume. This is still thr best Vetiver I've tried to date and I've smelt some great Vetiver perfumes. This will always be a love and it's disheartening Creed are again ruining another perfume... I will try get a couple of back up bottles. 10/10 for me. No it's not al all-rounder, no it's not potent, it's not loud. But that's the whole point of this, if you ever wonder what perfume to wear to a job interview, meetings etc this should be at the top of the list because this is where it truly shines. This is what it was made for and when you wsnt to have a chill day this does the job too, calming, smooth, just right 😃

My first encounter with this masterpiece was almost 15 years ago when I smelled it on several vip clients in a bank branch where I was working. I was captivated by the scent but didn't want to bother them by asking what perfume they were wearing. A while later, a representative of a corporate client who I knew very well visited us wearing the same perfume so I asked him immediately. He told me its the green Greed. then he added "this is a perfume of shiekhs & royalty". I bet it is. IMO this is the most luxurious citrusy vetiver perfume ever created and the best perfume in Creed's whole line up. It smells clean, bright, rich, sophisticated & classy. the opening is overly citrusy and assaulting so don't rush judging. give it some time to cool down then you will start enjoying the majestic spicy vetiver aroma. The longevity & sillage are excellent. It should be any way at this price range. On the other hand, I'm quite amazed of reviews saying this smells like soap. really ?! This one is definitely a 10/10 and can't imagine not having one in my collection. although I have to admit its a bit overpriced, that's the only downside. imo this one along with Tom Ford's Tuscan leather are the only perfumes worth buying above $300 (around SAR 1000 here in the middle east). other perfumes will be Comme de garcon 2 & Loewe 7.

Smells like a beautiful fresh citrus soap with a vetiver undertone, the mandarin is realistic and natural smelling and somewhat prominent but melds beautifully in the drydown. I love it. It's just so damn clean and fresh. Not full of sweetness, calone, other aquatic notes or Tonka bean like every other fresh fragrance within the designer realm. I can't think of anybody who would be offended by the smell. Versatile multitool in a bottle. Finished my decant and just ordered a full bottle. Lasts most of a day on me, in that 10 hour range, despite smelling so lite in the air. Edit: have used by bottle a fair few times and it's still definitely still the best creed for me. It's not ground breaking but it does what it does very well. Vetiver dominant fragrance such as Guerlain vetiver are barely different to encre noir to me because I can't smell the top notes. prefer it as a background note because it takes over so easily. It's just prominent enough in OV for the name to not be a misnomer like royal oud. It's in just the right amount for my taste. I love catching whiffs of this throughout the day. It retains a tartness about it from the mandarin and has that beautiful rounded clean nearly soapy base with the rougher texture from vetiver keeping it interesting. My favorite creed fragrance, get a sample ASAP.

I love vetiver fragrances, from the clean and green to the dark and dirties, and everything in between. Original Vetiver is, by far, my favorite fresh vetiver perfume that I find wonderfully refreshing, clean, yet a subtly sophisticated scent that's wrapped in that Creed ambergris DNA. Sure, the clean soapiness of this fragrance reminds me of Mugler Cologne (I have both) but Original is richer, more refined, and is less linear in that it changes somewhat during the dry-down. While you may not receive (m)any unsolicited compliments while wearing this one, you will smell fantastic and offend absolutely no one. People will just assume you have the best smelling skin, hair and pheromones...and will linger longer while in your presence. I also love Mugler Cologne (great office and casual scent) but, to me, Original Vetiver is just a bit more elegant and can be used as an evening fragrance as well. Projection and longevity are very good on my skin in that it lasts a solid 6-7 hours and projects moderately. Overall, I find Original Vetiver to be a leader when it comes to fresh Vetiver fragrances...however, it's pricey and I find Mugler Cologne to be a highly suitable alternative for those not wishing to pay $$$ for a fresh fragrance.

First impression: This is nothing like any Vetiver fragrances I have tired before. For example, Guerlain Vetiver and Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. This one I can't smell vetiver instantly. Instead, I get a lot of green pine and cedar with some bitter (but nice) lemon/grapefruit. It's not too bitter nor dried; thanks to some juicy sweet orangey fruit. I can see where some folks get the lemongrass as well, but I just get a lot of pine with slightly cool feel. Sadly, I don't think I smell rose here. :( Vetiver is still very subtle on my skin for the first hour (sigh) but wait! there is more. All the sudden, the grassy vetiver just jump right in front of me, and it smells really grassy and really nice. I enjoy it especially when I pick up the scent in the air. I am glad it's still not as dry as any other Vetiver based fragrances out there. It stays moist and cool. Even though I get a lot of pine and it reminds me of winter holiday, I still think this is a very nice scent. It has a decent longevity, and it doesn't exactly smell common for vetiver based scent. The bottle is nice and I am glad I got it at a steal. It's my one and only vetiver fragrance in my wardrobe.

This blows Mugler Cologne out of the water. Where Mugler Cologne is high-pitched, airy, and one-dimensional, Original Vetiver is anything but. The opening is similar to MC, but OV is more natural. From there, the two fragrances take different directions. The Mugler stays pretty linear, but the Creed develops into a thing of absolute beauty. Green, clean, yet slightly earthy and peppery, this is an absolutely beautiful clean vetiver. NOTHING about this exists in Mugler Cologne. I made a huge mistake by listening to short-sighted reviews, and stayed away from OV, because people said it smelled the exact same as MC. Wrong. Original Vetiver can be had at discount prices, but to be honest, it's so damn good, I'd pay retail. Once you actually spend some time with it, you'll quickly realize - this is a vetiver fragrance - and those that say otherwise, have never sniffed beyond the opening on a tester strip. Projects well for about 3-4 hours, lasts for about 8 hours on the skin. An absolute must have for summer months. I'm a fan of the house of Thierry Mugler, but this isn't even a competition. Not close.

Guys, I gotta talk to you about a fragrance I’ve been really into lately: Original Vetiver by Creed. Bro, this is fresh elegance in a bottle! Forget that dry, earthy, kinda bitter vetiver you usually smell out there this one is a whole different beast. Creed used the entire vetiver plant root, stem, and leaves and turned it into this creamy, green, refined, and super fresh scent. It opens with a clean punch of bergamot, ginger, and mandarin imagine stepping out of a luxury shower, but in style. Then it settles into a clean, smooth vetiver, almost soapy, layered over a musky and woody base that makes your skin smell like you just walked out of a five-star spa day. Perfect for warm weather Cali heat, Brazilian sun, whatever. It’s not a projection monster, but it’s got presence in the first hour. Longevity? A solid 6 to 8 hours on my skin discreet, but steady. Bottom line: this is “luxury hygiene in a bottle.” Great for anytime you wanna smell clean, classy, and effortlessly put-together. A fresh take on vetiver that stands out for all the right reasons.

Most detectable notes for me: Orange, Ginger, Vetiver and Sandalwood. Review: My all-time favourite fragrance. This is a beautiful, versatile, office-friendly scent that I find both uplifting as well as incredibly relaxing. The opening of the citruses and ginger provide that lovely sparkle/fizz. I have to give it to them, the ingredients Creed have sourced for this are second to none. Vetiver can have that dirty/earthy smell but this is not that at all. Again, Sandalwood can occasionally come across quite ‘varnish’ like, but this is probably the smoothest I have ever encountered in ANY fragrance. Unfortunately, Creed changed the notes of this fragrance for the worse in my opinion in 2025 (note the slight bottle redesign as well). This pre-2025 formulation is the best (green fading into black bottle). Season: All Use: If green, smooth, soapy scents are to your taste, then you certainly won’t be even a tad disappointed with this absolute masterpiece. I think this is Creed’s best, as you can literally put this on for any occasion.

Anyone know the last batch codes for this? Or the new codes for the new version? This is in my all time top 5, I need a bottle of this before I can't find it.... Such a beautiful rounded smooth natural perfume. Nothing beast about it, sits close to your skin and despite what people say it actually does last 6hrs or more... just not strong at all. For me thats perfectly fine, this is a perfect office meeting, boardroom type fragrance... smells clean, natural, won't offend anyone. I LOVE how it is chill and not a screamer like other Vetiver perfumes. For people complaining about performance fair point especially for the price but for what I Use it for, nothing comes close and I've tried hundreds on hundreds of perfumes. Just is this just blissful... 10/10 for me. I will always wonder how this perfume is sooooo smooth and has an aura about it. Not many perfumes do and I have no idea how to describe it but this is one rare perfume that has its own 'aura'. Guess its just unique....

Love this. I have batch F000410 It does smell soapy and I get a tiny bit of vetiver. Basically what everyone else has been describing it as. It seems slightly floral too from the Iris I suppose. Amazingly blended together as you would expect from Creed. It’s a mature vibe for sure but a younger guy can still wear this. I would say anybody like 24+ can pull this type of scent off. The dry down is very very light. This is definitely not a room filler but I got a tiny wafts here and there for quite a while like 5-6 hours after applying. If you want an intimate clean smell I think this is a great option at a hefty discount. I don’t want to say it’s a good blind buy, but I cannot see anyone being offended by a fresh clean scent like this. If you want a heavy projector, look elsewhere. Top 3 Creed in my collection at the moment with GIT and SMW being above it. I can’t wait to smell this after it has aged for a while.

Maybe I'm misusing this one, but to me this is a playful fun cologne, not the hyper-professional office cologne it's made out to be. This stuff is a summer pool party in a bottle. The walk to a restaurant to get lunch after spending the morning on a gulf beach. Day drinking. Falling in love on a summer day. This is the ideal summer cologne for a man who loves summer in his late teens/ early 20's. In the heat, nothing compares to this. Performance is very good for how light it is. It's obviously not a vanilla-based wintertime beast-mode, which apparently some people stupidly think should be the standard for all colognes regardless of season. The projection, intensity, and longevity are absolutely perfect for what you would use this for. This is a rare cologne that I spray pretty heavy on, so I do 4 sprays of this, which sounds like overkill but it's actually very nice.

Original Vetiver is like putting on a crisp white shirt on a breezy spring morning—fresh, clean, and just the right amount of polished. It starts off bright, with a sharp citrus kick that fades into something softer: green, soapy vetiver grounded by a little musk and amber. There’s a warmth to it, but it’s never heavy—more like the sun warming up a patch of grass. The sillage is easygoing, noticeable but never overbearing. It lasts about 6-8 hours, enough to stick with you through the day without demanding attention. It’s the kind of scent you can wear anywhere—it just works, no matter the setting. To me, it’s simple, classic, and quietly confident. Nothing loud or flashy, just a fresh, green scent that feels like a good day in the making. Original Vetiver is the kind of fragrance you reach for without even thinking about it, and somehow, it always fits.

A very clean, inoffensive fragrance. Just makes you smell nice and fresh. A really well put together fragrance. Just received my F000410 Batch a couple of days ago, nice solid metal cap. The bottle looks and feels amazing. Can’t really comment on the projection and sillage yet as it’s early days. I will sparingly use and then tuck it away somewhere dark for a few months to let the fragrance sit and become the finished article. I am really hoping this fragrance matures and becomes a long lasting one for me as I really love the scent. Could easily become a daily signature fragrance. I hope! Say what you want about Creed, and I know many do! But you cannot deny they know how to make a fragrance smell amazing. It’s blended to perfection, no one note sticks out and overpowers the other.

One of my favourite creed fragrances. An amazing fragrance that opens with a clean, energetic and sweet scent. This perfect for spring and summer days (however could probably be easily worn in most occasions). a Sweet Citrus+Vetiver+Musk combo done well. High quality and very smooth. Is it worth the price tag however, is debatable. I find the performance a bit lacking and would find it hard to recommend this as worth it to someone who hasn't already smelt this and enjoys it. I would be interested in smelling Mugler Cologne / Come together to see how similar they are however those are a bit hard to locate at the moment (in Oz at least). I have smelt Irish spring before (and enjoyed it) but have not smelt it enough to be able to give a just comparison to this fragrance.

I really like Mugler cologne, and was looking for something a bit more complex, possibly slightly more masculine, and with better performance. From the descriptions on this site, Original Vetiver (original?) seemed to fit the bill. Frustrated by the perpetually empty tester at my local fragrance store, I blind bought an affordable tester bottle from a discounter. Fortunately, the Creed is exactly what I was looking for. A bit more complex (more sandalwood and vetiver), fantastic musky base, and the clean nice smell I like so much in the Mugler. Performance is very good for me and lasts all day. Highly recommended, but you can clearly get a reasonably similar result much cheaper with Mugler cologne and simply re-apply. For the price I paid I am happy with the Creed.
