Vetiver

I was able to get a decant of Vetiver from a seller on eBay. This is a pleasant and modest smelling fragrance. Vetiver and slight citrus notes are what I smell. It is very nice. Having worn in for a few minutes I can say it is versatile. Easily could be worn by a man or a woman any time of the day. While I do like it a lot, I think that Original Vetiver is a better fragrance. After wearing it all day, it definitely wanes to nearly unnoticeable.

Earthy Vetiver. A tue classic.

I'd not sampled Creed Vetiver 1948 (the actual original vetiver, not Original Vetiver, which was released in 2004) in some time before procuring a decant recently. I would describe it as a fresh, classic citrus/vetiver scent, certainly fresher than Dior Vetiver but not as fresh as Eau Sauvage, somewhere in between. Its main note list consists of citruses, ginger, vetiver, cedar, and ambergris. It smells very natural, fitting for a refreshing throwback, though it does not perform particularly well, which is my experience of most freshie or semi-freshie Creeds—great scents but a little light on performance relative to the cost, and certainly that’s the case with this hard-to-find, discontinued offering. Overall, it’s very nice, but not as unique or interesting as some of the other discontinued grey-cap-era EDT Creeds like Epicea or Baie de Genievre. Still, I’d nab a bottle at the right price as a semi-collector. It's classy stuff, signature-scent worthy, and harkens back to a different time. 7 out of 10

The unsung vetiver: everyone mourns its passing but it always seems strange to me. Initially it makes me think of Mugler Cologne or Original Vetiver with added soft florals and a cold slab of stone underneath. The florals (rose?) soon start to compete more seriously with the granite slab, and I feel like the green component from that south Indian grassy plant (what's that stuff called again?) gets forgotten about in the fray. It doesn't have the smoothness or moistness of a Gendarme scent, but the inclusion of very clean florals reminds me a bit of that line. I'm not sure what it's trying to accomplish at this point, but being vetivery doesn't seem high on the list. By the late mid notes, the florals have somehow been replaced with leafy herbs, so at least we've returned to the green territory that I was expecting, but it's just too resinous and not grassy enough. Still, it's a perfectly usable green scent as long as you don't need it to smell like the legions of vetiver-specific fragrances.

Creed VETIVER opens as a lightly citrus aromatic and dries down as a slightly amberized vetiver-cedar fragrance. I would not say that this is spicy in the least, for the ginger has much more of an aromatic than an oriental quality. Wearing VETIVER feels a bit like walking through the leaves in the fall as they pile up on the ground forming a haphazard yet beautiful collage of yellow, orange, red and brown. The green has all faded away: these leaves have died of natural causes and form a part of the cycle of life. Absorbed into the soil, they will be reborn in a new form, emerging in disguise later on down the line. VETIVER is suitable for men and women and would work well in warmer weather. This composition is simple yet natural and highly likeable, with no repugnant synthetic notes whatsoever.

JFK never wore this. Creed really needs to stop. A familiar trick that some perfumers with questionable honesty use is to claim that they made something "for" some celebrity. What does "for" mean? Anyone could stir together a homemade concoction in their kitchen "for" the Queen of England, and then mail a vial of it to Buckingham Palace (where it will be summarily tossed by the staff, who process the massive volume of mail she receives, into the mailroom garbage can). One can then claim it was made "for" somebody, even if that somebody has no awareness that the product even exists. Creed is notoriously shady when it comes to celebrity associations as well as the apparent complete historical nonexistence of their fragrances prior to the 1970s or so. Apparently when pressed on the issue, Creed claimed that they mail a bottle of one of their fragrances to every sitting U.S. president. So, as we can imagine, it was then tossed in the trash by the White House mailroom staff who probably receive hundreds of unsolicited items per day? They also claim the Vetiver he wore predates his presidency by over a dozen years (1948; he took office in 1961). Doesn't add up. Combine that with the fact that JFK apparently didn't wear any fragrances at all...

Vetiver was introduced to me by an ex-boyfriend who wore Guerlain's Vetiver. The impression that vetiver makes on me is truly an APHRODISIAC! I Love the smell of this SO MUCH that I had to find a fragrance to wear that would give me a hint of this element. [Note: Guerlain's Vetiver cologne is much stronger, heavier, and more rawly masculine than Creed's version of Vetiver and would be way too heavy for a woman to wear]. This is a very fresh, green, and warm fragrance - which envelopes you as if you were wearing your favorite snuggle blanket or fluffy warm sweater. It is designed to be a male fragrance but is so light that I have worn it as a unisex fragrance - and LOVE it! I agree with the other reviews of this - that say this smells like fall leaves. This is a perfect way to describe the essence of this fragrance! This fragrance reminds me of "tweed blazers" and comes across very "preppy"... almost Ivy League. If this fragrance were a color, it would definitely be green... a green that was grassy warm, bright green with some subtle depths, almost as if you are blending deeper colors into a primary paint, this fragrance has a light depth to it that makes this feel "upper crust" in a delightful way. Love it!

Okay so I do not care whether JFK truly wore it or not, neither do I care about Creed’s campaign tactic. This is not a page to speculate on Creed’s or any other house for that matter business model , it is a place to review a fragrance in question and what a phenomenal fragrance it is. Vetiver1948 is a direct opposite of Their Original Vetiver which is more of a vetiver fragrance for folks that don’t necessarily appreciate vetiver as a single note , because it is extracted from vetiver leafs as opposed to traditional extraction of vetiver root. In Vetiver1948 we have a traditional rooty vetiver , not terribly complex yet done so well. Vetiver note is apparent from the start but it’s lifted by elegant bergamot accord and further brightened and warmed by ginger . Vetiver1948 is anchored by ambergris and cedar that lends it sophisticated polish. The entire proceedings are smooth as butter. this is not Your run of the mill vetiver fragrance , i’m so glad i was able to snatch a full 75ml’s bottle from an Aussie Ebay seller so that i don’t have to cringe when i use my half full bottle i currently own . Two big thumbs up

all perfumeheads know president kennedy wore this classic that is the green scent in which many have tried to be but all fall short of this....any vetiver out there is what it is and if ya know the smell you know theres no mistake but this one is the one that is the finest and most precise i have ever come across....i paid quite a bit but im proud to own a 2.5 oz bottle of this and use on special occasions only also anytime someone compliments me its cool to mention the history of the juice and ramble on a bit about it........9/10

I own a bottle of this and absolutely love it. At first, it smells like Original Vetiver. After a bit of time it goes a complete different route. It almost has a soil like quality that makes me feel like it is a freshly pulled from the ground. I never cared for Original Vetiver because I felt like it was way too soapy and not worth the price tag. Vetiver 1948 definitely stays true to the vetiver of the older days. I will forever cherish my bottle. I worry about the day where I am down to my last few sprays.

Love this stuff and it actually differs from Original Vetiver a bit. Original Vetiver to me is so much more Green and stronger while this is less green, kinda metallic and subtle. Both are great but I actually think that I prefer this better over Original Vetiver. Original Vetiver in my opinion can get a bit too strong especially in the opening and a bit strange in its scent as well, a bit too pungent. I could definitely see JFK wearing this, it's nice.

Lots of people love this, I don't, but it intrigues me. It reminds me of my long dead grandmother. I don't mean her corpse of course, but something very "old fasioned" about this. Something old and pungent cutting through the freshness, I think it's the ambergris. I can't use this on myself, but I'm glad I smelt it, brought back memories of the old bird (passed away 30 years ago)

Opens with citrusy note. To me, it's a woodsy note, very natural smelling, with prominent cedar. Reminds me of walking in the woods. Ginger note seems to give it a little bit of spiciness. Very well crafted and unfortunately vaulted. The absence of synthetic metallics and greens is truly appreciated.

I tried this one at the dept store here in Germany. Truely, nothing special. I was not surprised. It;s vetiver, kinda smooth, not smokey, and then I think I remember a touch of floral after that. For the price, go with any vetiver, and you will get a similar fragrance.

Perhaps my favorite vetiver of all. Unfortunately, Vetiver 1948 is now discontinued and enormously expensive - as much as $400 for 50ml/1.7oz. The current 'Original Vetiver' that followed is a huge disappointment in my estimation.

Always fresh and crisp,..had so many compliments with this one. More of daytime fragrance specially for summer...This is one of my favourites and just love it!..No wonder it was JFKs favourite....

I think Guerlain Vetiver is much more "earthy", elegant and masculine.

Got a decant. Smells like bug spray. Simply put.
