Vintage Tabarome

It's not just a perfume. It's a matter of history, authority and legacy. My late grand PA and great grand PA used creed oils. He was a noble man. Several broken travel atomizers wrapped in leather were found from his belongings. For years I tried to find the private creed tabarome but couldn't. Finally found vintage creed tabarome from a friend's collection. This thing is class... Pure class... Not elite but ruling class. Opens up with a burst of oak moss and leather. Transforms into clear tones of tobacco, green tobacco vibes as well as that humid pipe or cigar tobacco notes. Smells like worn out leather jackets, black American leather recliners, racks of the trophy room, old journals, medals, orders and honors, like the sheath of the sword of honor. Pure pleasure for me! I feel myself lucky to finally carry on the legacy of my fore fathers and elders. For my fellows who are reading this review before buying it, don't go for it unless you are at least 30 yo. This is not a crowd pleasing scent but for your close friends who have similar vibes and aura as you have. Women think this is a pungent fragrance Ladies find it appealing. Regards!

Rummaging through my father’s old stuff, I found a nearly full flacon of this stuff. It is simply incredible. It makes complete sense that Churchill wore it - cigar rooms and leather couches. More specifically, a sharp citrus opening that dries down into the driest of Oakmoss and tobacco leaf with traces of resinous leather. It is blended incredibly well and smells unlike anything else. Is it dated? Of course. Churchill wore it. Does it smell like “old people”? Of course. Churchill wore it. Is it overly masculine, evoking a time when gender roles were firm and men were truly men? Of course, Churchill wore it. Is it nevertheless one of the absolute best formal scents I have ever had the pleasure of wearing? Of course. For all his flaws, Sir Winston Churchill wore it (supposedly). ;)

It’s incredible that Creed has not re-released it. It is a masterpiece of a fragrance that is tailored for a powerful boardroom presence. It has the tobacco, the Brandy, the sandalwood, the ambergris and probably more in the blend. I still have the bottle that I bought 10 years ago. It is dry now but periodically I uncap it and it still has the stunning fragrance that made me fall in love with it. I wish Creed would bring it back. I would buy it in a heartbeat. Update: please see my recent review of Rien by E’tat Libre de Orange. This is an excellent substitute for VT.

Creed PRIVATE TABAROME (as my sample vial is labeled) or VINTAGE TABAROME is one seriously intense little elixir. A couple of drops and I am basically overwhelmed by what appears to my nose to be a very leather-heavy scent. Yes, there are chypre elements here, but leather definitely dominates to my nose. I had been looking forward with great anticipation to trying this Creed creation, as I adore TABAROME and am planning to add a bottle to my collection. While still a high-quality composition, PRIVATE TABAROME is an entirely different beast, literally and figuratively! I smell dark, rough leather above all and all over the place. If there is tobacco in this composition, it is nothing like the shiny wet green leaves found in TABAROME and Trussardi JEANS or the other tobacco frags so coveted by me. Still, I think that PRIVATE TABAROME has its own appeal. This is a dark, rich, ponderous fragrance along the lines of CABOCHARD. One thing's for sure: a bottle will last you a VERY long time!!! Guys and gals alike will want to apply this powerful potion sparingly--well, unless you like to hang out with bikers. Or want others to think that you do. (-: I probably would not want to wear PRIVATE TABAROME alone, but it may mix beautifully with a good rose perfume. In fact, I think that I'll try that right now... Update (8:24pm): blends beautifully with FLEURS DE BULGARIE!

I'm rather shocked this hasn't been more reviewed than it has, but that likely owes to lack of production since say 2009. I recently opened my Creed Atomizer of this without spraying as I was contemplating a sale of it -- last time I saw this on auction, it was pricing at (and fetching) $1700 for the same amount. I dreaded parting with it, and opened the atomizer to smell the whiff of the juice within. I was absolutely NOT going to part with this. It's about the most brilliant rendition of a tobacco and leather scent, something one would only hope to achieve via imitation. It smells of a clubby room decorated in oak wood, leather chairs, brandy glasses and good cigars or pipes. My God, why did I even consider selling it?!? Now that I've been intoxicated again, this might rear its head on occasion and make a guest appearance on a cool evening when the breezes are right. If you are lucky enough to have smelled or have a sample, you'll understand all of this. If you're luckier still to have more, you'll have experienced it. If not, I wish I could convey in words what you're truly missing as Tabarome Millesime pales by comparison.

Vintage Tabarome is often cited as proof that the House of Creed has existed "since forever." That part is true, the fragrance did pass through my hands. What is far less clear, however, and certainly not properly documented, are the frequent claims that Creed creations were widely worn by aristocracy and elite clientele. Those stories remain largely anecdotal. The perfume itself, in a Creed jar with a simple "Tabarome" label on the bottom, was in my possession for less than three days, roughly three years ago. Given the supposed age of the formula, I like to imagine that the liquid had deteriorated and resurrected itself dozens of times between its creation and the moment I smelled it, though I have no proof of that. This brief encounter remains my only experience with the fragrance. Long story short: this was completely unwearable for me. Vintage Tabarome smells exactly like the time it was created in. Time feels frozen inside the bottle. I genuinely cannot imagine anyone wearing this today in a real-world context. The closest references that come to mind are Versace L'Homme and Etat Libre d'Orange Je Suis Un Homme, but Tabarome is far denser, oilier, drier, and more austere undeniably richer and more authoritative than both. It evokes the atmosphere of luxurious, aristocratic leather woody offices, the kind where historical conversations were held and decisions were made behind closed doors. Fascinating as a historical artifact, overwhelming as a fragrance. It was passed on almost immediately, strictly as a collector’s piece.

finally got a small sample of this amazing fragrance, I was blown away on first sniff, this is truly a work of art...I have the new version and while it is a nice fragrance, I like ok...this is something that is that on first sniff off my wrist I am thinking oh my god, how beautiful is this. I cannot think of anything along these lines that has impressed me more, if only I could own a bottle..wow..i could see why someone like Winston Churchill would have worn this , what a statement of quality, and impeccable character this fragrance has, and the person who would wear it. people would be talking about you in a positive way. I let my son try a few drops of this precious liquid on his wrist...he kept sniffing and an hour later kept commenting about how fantastic it smelled, what does this cost ? maybe we could go halves? I wish it were that easy..holy smokes, like the goblet that Christ drank from..there are love, like and dislike, how about admired? unbelievable fragrance..i will keep this just so I can say , yes I have smelled vintage tabarome and yes I am blown away. maybe it should be the father, the son and vintage tabarome.

One must harden without ever losing tenderness. When facing a fragrance like Vintage Tabarome we should all forget about labels, brands, marketing, hype and stuff like that. We should just face the fact that the world of perfume is, in the end, divided in two: good fragrances on a side and bad ones on the other. Vintage Tabarome is a great, GREAT fragrance. No matter which brand released it... Upon application, what immediately results as undeniable is the incredible quality of the ingredents. The perfect belnding and balance. Fresh spices with an old-fashioned leathery presence serve to introduce and incredibly dry chypre driven by a stark tobacco note which is miles above the average quality available on the market. Earthy and incredibly mossy, simple yet extremely complex. I would classify Vintage Tabarome as a rough masculine fragrance but, at the same time, it shows an overall dandified vibe that only superior class compositions can achive. Mervellous. Good projection, outstanding lasting power. One of Creed's finests. Literally mind blowing. Rating: 9/10

At first (dabbing it on from a vial) there is a leathery quality, with the tobacco present but "playing second fiddle." Also, there's little sweetness here. Over time the leather and tobacco balance out, but later the leather is mostly gone. The sandalwood is mild but seems to help dry it out, and make no mistake, this is a dry scent. It's not bone dry, but it's dry enough so that you can appreciate the quality of the ingredients. It seems that dryness helps with note separation if the ingredient quality is high but generates a metallic quality if the ingredients aren't especially good. In any case, what makes this scent special for me is that it's so well balanced for a tobacco scent, which allows me to appreciate it for hours without there being anything that tends to irritate. The prices I see now online are too high, IMO, but I guess to the wealthy it's not a concern. The aficionado should at least sample this one, unless he or she doesn't like tobacco notes. And yes, this can be unisex for those who want a dry, balanced tobacco scent.

Not sure what the hype is about on this one. Upon first application, I get a musty leather sofa. Could it be the oakmoss? Anyhow, this sure isn't something that is a safe blind buy as it is truly an older gentleman's fragrance (think 50's+).

Finally bought a sample. Tested it this afternoon and now I feel like I am sitting in my parents house. I definitely get the chypre but I also get a cedar/mothball current riding in the background. This smells like old people

Where the hell can one buy a sample of this from a reputable seller? I've always been keen on smelling this one. I figured the current tabarome wouldn't fit the description of Sir Winston Churchill at all.
