Foreshadow

I'm continuing my journey with the house of Curatrix today, turning my attention to Foreshadow. So far, my experiences with this house have been exceptionally positive, and I'm genuinely impressed with the quality and artistry I've encountered. Based on its familiar note breakdown, I'm anticipating Foreshadow to deliver a rich, sweet, and smoky experience that aligns perfectly with my preferences. Let's get into it. Opening The opening is a captivating blend of sumptuous sweetness, enveloping smokiness, and a touch of verdant greenery. The primary notes that immediately register are vanilla, incense, tobacco, and galbanum, with vanilla and incense being the commanding presences. The vanilla takes the spotlight in the opening with a rich, invitingly sweet vanilla accord. There's a subtle creaminess underlying it, though not so pronounced as to steer it into an overtly gourmand direction. Right behind the vanilla, in almost equal measure, comes the incense, imbuing the opening with an intensely smoky accord punctuated by some underlying spiciness. Next, tobacco and galbanum weave into the composition. The tobacco plays a supportive role, contributing a warm, subtly sweet, and faintly hay-like accord. It's not as robust as the tobacco in fragrances like Tobacco Vanille, but its presence is undeniably clear. Lastly, the galbanum adds a contrasting touch in the background with its green, earthy, and subtly bitter undertones. Dry Down The dry down settles into a harmonious continuation of luscious sweetness, lingering smokiness, and balsamic warmth. The primary notes I discern are vanilla, incense, tobacco, and Ambrox Super. Vanilla and incense still command the most attention, and both notes have retained their strength into the dry down, maintaining their characteristic sweet and smoky accords. Little has changed with them, save perhaps a slightly more pronounced vanilla presence. This enduring core is then joined by tobacco and Ambrox Super. The tobacco still plays a supportive role, delivering the same warm, subtly sweet, and hay-like accord. Lastly, Ambrox Super has emerged, providing a backdrop of ambery, resinous warmth and underlying sweetness. A faint bitterness from the galbanum does linger, but it largely becomes an ethereal afterthought in the dry down. Performance The initial projection is remarkably strong, effortlessly filling a room with its presence. The sillage matches that intensity, leaving a dense and notably heavy scent trail. After approximately three to four hours, the performance remained largely unchanged, with projection still well over six feet and the scent trail easily discernible. Even at the seven-to-eight-hour mark, the projection admirably held at about five to six feet, and the scent trail remained readily noticeable. The fragrance ultimately persisted for around twelve hours before gently fading into a skin scent. When to Wear Foreshadow presents itself as a distinctive fall and winter fragrance, ideally suited for evening wear. Its rich, warm, and inviting nature makes it a perfect choice for special occasions when you desire to draw others in with its captivating allure. It could also be worn casually or for more formal events in cooler weather, though its intensity suggests it wouldn't be the most appropriate choice for a typical office environment. Blind Buy This would be a very safe blind buy for anyone who loves sweet and smoky fragrances. It subtly evokes elements from other fragrances, such as Invictus Victory Elixir, Stronger With You Tobacco, and Amore Caffe. If that particular aromatic family appeals to you, this is definitely worth trying out. Final Verdict Curatrix has, once again, managed to genuinely impress me with Foreshadow. The smoky vanilla/tobacco scent DNA is a territory I've explored many times, and one with which I am intimately familiar. However, this house has somehow managed to breathe new life into it for me, delivering something truly special. It doesn't radically reinvent this particular DNA, but it executes it with spectacular precision and artistry. Couple that with the powerful performance I've come to expect and appreciate from this house, and you have the recipe for another undeniable winner. While I already possess other fragrances in my collection that occupy a similar olfactive niche, meaning I'm in no immediate rush to acquire another, I can confidently say I will ultimately add a full bottle of this to my collection at some point. *Edit* Will no longer be purchasing from Curatrix due to a terrible customer service experience. Their fragrances are great, but I would exercise caution when dealing with this company. to me this reminds me of being together with family at christmas. you’re in your mid teens and you’re one of the youngest in the family. not wanting to be inside with everyone to listen to their constant comments and criticism about your life, you join your well off aunt on the porch while she’s on her smoke break. you don’t see her much because she also doesn’t enjoy being around everyone, but she reluctantly decided to come this time. she always has tales to tell about her life in her early 20’s and the shenanigans she used to pull. the scent of her smoke swirls with the warmth of her loud perfume on her fur lined coat which fills your frozen nose.

I don't normally reach for a perfume that has vanilla as a base note, but the vanilla in this is less confectionary than others, and adds a warmth to the other notes. Smells somewhat sultry, and kind of reminds me of that one picture of Aubrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffanys where she's holding that opera-length cigarette holder. This is currently definitely one of my go-tos. It's something that's just delightful to smell on your pillow after sleeping with it on.

A beautifully heady combination of creamy tobacco and sweetly smoky incense freshened up with green touches lingering in the background. Opens with that sweet incense paired with a powdery and green violet leaf. The heart offers up that creamy and richly earthy tobacco as it mingles with a sweet incense smoke. The dry down is ultra musky and dreamy like a sweet cloud with remnants of incense and tobacco. A lovely take on incense and tobacco as notes.

I wanna smell like... Slow-sipping bourbon neat in low a slung round velvet booth. Maybe you’ve just left your husband. Maybe you’ll meet the man of your dreams — or at the very least, man of your evening... Elvis crooning through the jukebox. Or Danzig. Take your pick. Choose your poison? This dark horse is equal parts heady and enveloping.

Received a sample of this today. It’s nice but I’m a bit disappointed with how prominent the vanilla note is. The tobacco and incense are lovely, but I wish the vanilla note was more in the background than front and center. Overall I think this is a very wearable goth perfume if you enjoy vanilla scents. It definitely does feel like Halloween time. Like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I just can’t get past that sweetness enough to actually LOVE it though.

You’re 16 and at your cool aunt’s wedding with your best friend. You told her to bring a mixer and you have one, too. You sneak outside with your can of Dr. Pepper and her bottle of cream soda and a bottle of bourbon you swiped from the open bar and pour all three into two champagne glasses. You sit in the cool air under the stars sipping and smoking clove cigarettes, feeling warm and glamorous.

This is one of the best tobacco's I've smelled in a scent. Im not a fan of the projection and sillage, but the scent is divine!

It just arrived today, so I'm going to keep trying it. The longevity is stroooong, even after a quick shower I still smelled it on my wrist a bit. I can't get past the under current of charcoal brick I'm stuck on with this one. I initially thought incense, but I'm sniffing and sniffing, and I realize it isn't incense, it's more acrid and chemically, though adjacent, it's the little non toxic pucks you use to burn loose incense. So far it's rather off-putting. There's a soapy, musky element that reads "mature" that isn't terrible but this is an odd ball for sure. I'm not getting the elegant, eccentric woman vibes I was wanting.
