Rose Cologne

Patcholi widely used in fragrances has an intriguing scent profile. I bought a tiny bottle of pure patcholi oil from a distiller but I found that (unlike pure rose oil) it was little unwearable on its own because of sharp, butch, green forest floor like ruggedness. But when patcholi is used as an ingredient by a master perfumer it works wonders just as I find it here in Czech & Speake's Rose edp. Another similar masterful blending of patcholi can be seen in vintage Richwood by xerjoff. Bourbon rose was discovered by chance on Reunion island and carries the best of both Damask rose and old blush China rose. I think Rose cologne is one of the earliest scents by C&S and this is actually a stunning interpretation of bourbon rose accentuated with yellow floral and citrus notes. There is a subtle green vibe which adds life to this beautiful fragrance. Decidedly femme, the edp has splendid projection and lasting. Its a very simple blend made with high quality oils. Try it.

I bought a sample of the Eau de Parfum of this Rose. I am very impressed with this! It is very elegant and has a wonderful, medium rose fragrance. I don't smell any geranium, thank goodness; I have a lot of outdoor plants including geraniums and they do not have a particularly nice fragrance! I wouldn't want to smell like a geranium. Because this is about $150 to $200 buying this bottle is a long way off for me but I would love to eventually buy this. It's one of the nicest rose scents I've smelled, other than Rose de Jacquemont (might be spelled wrong here) by Coty which is the best, followed by Rose de Rosine by Rosine which also is one of the best rose scents.

Wow, this is so good. That smell chic and striking Rose and Geranium, pleases me very much, I feel all the quality of this mixture well established. I classify it thus: Smell: 9/10 Projection: 8.5/10 Longevity: 7.5/10

This isn't so much a rose as anticipation of a rose. To me it's like a tight pale pink rose bud that is just beginning to unfurl it's petals. When I was small I used to try and pull apart the petals on these to get to that mysterious 'something' inside, of course I just destroyed the flower and never found it's heart. I killed the goose that layed the golden egg. I'm waiting, waiting for that rose to open and the anticipation is killing me, but just as it begins to throw itself open it rains heavily, bruises, turns brown and begins to decay before it ever reached the height of its beauty. It's a little green, a little sappy, a little sour and a little rotten, but by no means unpleasant. I do pick up a little carnation. Lasting power is not great, I have compensated by over-spraying and believe me, it IS possible to overdo this. I get a very positive reaction from strangers, people start looking around for the source of the scent and when it's been located I get big beaming smiles ! Best applied little and often, it's very unfortunate that they only make this in whopping great bottles as a purse spray of this would be ideal for touch ups. Czech & Speake really are missing a trick with their insistence on magnum-size containers. I like it, but there are other glorious rose fragrances around, and I'm not sure I can justify the expense that a bottle of that size demands.

To me this EdC doesn’t smell much like rose at all, but rather more like a piercingly sharp combination of citrus, geranium, and a perfume-y almost ambergris-type base, probably created by the interaction of geranium and patchouli. As it dries down I start to detect a little bit of rose that reminds me of old-fashioned rose-scented soap, which, it turns out, is the main theme. Within 2-3 hours the whole scent has faded away. I liked the zingy opening better than the main act featuring weak rose soap. Moreover, C&S No. 88 is a much better rose scent from this house.
