Vetiver Vert Eau de Parfum

I have a small collection of vetiver oils. They smell earthy, smoky and best described as green forest floor after a rain. I tried once an eighty year old vetiver oil that was stored in a camel leather container. It didn't smell much different from the newer ones except being rounder, much smoother and more smoky. Vetiver when blended well in a perfume by a master perfumer works wonders just as it does in Vetiver Vert. I have a friend who has a great collection of some the finest fragrances and that includes a bottle of No 88 Cologne from C&S (and his only C&S) in his perfume wardrobe. No 88 has been to Czech & Speake what exactly has been Aventus to Creed. The huge popularity of No 88 means certain other well crafted fragrances by C&S have simply been overlooked by the fragrance community. Add to it very limited availability! Luckily I got a few samples from a friend after searching for them for a long time. The opening of Vetiver Vert is a bright mandarin with balsamic galbanum. Middle notes appear quickly with vetiver and sandalwood with their natural smokyness. Vetiver blended well with sandalwood and galbanum creates a green, masculine scent. Haitian vetiver is among the best vetiver oils and creates an alluring scent cloud of green earthy vetiver, galbanum with sandalwood as bergamot and mandarin recede a bit later. Among Vetiver fragrances this one stands out with superb quality ingredients & simple composition. Full bottle worthy? Certainly if you like well blended vetiver scents. Try it.

I blind bought this bottle. When I first sprayed it on myself, I had an instant flash of a memory of when I lived in Colombia South America. I was 21 years old and I would stay out all night with my friends and my girlfriend until the sun came up and in the morning all of the tropical plants around the city would be wet with due, and they gave off this exact same smell. This bottle is close to my heart. It’s fresh it’s different. It’s green it’s tropical and more than anything. It reminds me of where my family came from.

This one has grown on me. I thought at first it was extremely dirty and earthy, wasn’t a fan, the first time I had smelled vetiver. Now I found it a quite nice and refreshing fragrance. Definitely an old school fresh and pretty heavy vetiver scent. It’s a nice vetiver, not too earth dirty or musty. I don’t get much wood from this. The citrus and floral opening is nice, smells clean and refreshing. Recommend for more mature audience, 30-35+ 6.5/10

smelled this at a shop and sprayed some of it on my arm, starts with a burst of citruses and then immediately sticks to the vetiver dry down, which itself lasts long enough, the sillage is decent as well, I could get whiffs of it while moving my arms, the dry down somehow reminds me of tam dao by diptyque but this is a much aromatic less creamy version

I've currently got a sample of this on one arm and Guerlain Vetiver on the other. There's no comparison. The Guerlain is more interesting, nuanced and an all round better fragrance. I guess no house has all hits. But in my opinion Czech and Speake should discontinue some of their more ordinary fragrances. The prices they charge are far too much for any but the best. And the best in my opinion are No 88, Neroli, Dark Rose, with a just pass to Cuba and Oxford and Cambridge (which isn't my favourite but I know many like it, which is what counts). Not sure any of the rest are up to it. And the risk is they devalue the house as a whole and its aforementioned excellent fragrances (if No 88 had the Tom Ford name it would be famous)
