Eau de Jane

When winter has passed and spring has finally sprung, I always want to smell like a forest fairy. This calls for a good, old-fashioned green scent. While a very obvious choice for this time of year, I find it difficult to find good green scents currently being made. For example, Chanel No. 19 EDP is still close to its original 1970s composition but the performance of the current version is abysmal. In seeking a foresty green scent, it is a good, vintage-style galbanum note that really scratches the itch for me. I'm not interested in fig-led, vetiver-dominant or minty green scents, for example. However, niche perfumery offers many options, thankfully. Eau de Jane is a lovely example of a 1970s-style green scent with a floral heart, featuring that galbanum note I crave. EDJ opens with a strong, bracing green accord that briefly (and unfortunately) brings to mind pine-scented car fresheners. This passes quickly however, mellowing into a delicious floral scent with fruity nuances on a bed of hazy galbanum. I get citrus notes up top, mostly orange, adding bright, dewy freshness that paves the way to the sweet ylang ylang at the heart - the most prominent floral note to my nose. The floral heart develops, with lime adding fruity freshness, the perfect accompaniment to the sweet ylang-led bouquet. I also get a prominent apple quality, as @zhiang0113 below says, despite it not being listed in the notes. It adds the perfect crisp edge to the florals, as well as adding to the fresh green accord. It smells natural and realistic - impressive, considering I often find apple to be synthetic in perfume. Some clove-like spice follows, thanks to the carnation. As it develops further, the florals become increasingly powdery. I get green-tinged violet and some clean jasmine here, muted and subtle. A soft chypre base is the perfect - if predictable - conclusion to this scent. Woody and softly mossy with the powdery florals remaining, it is gentle and soapy, green-tinged until final fade. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is feminine-leaning in my opinion, best worn on spring/summer days. A well-composed scent made with natural-smelling, high-quality materials, EDJ is a truly lovely everyday scent for warm weather. A timeless scent while paying homage to green floral perfumes of decades past, EDJ offers easy elegance in spades. 4/5.

This is a stunning Chypre with a bit of greenness, and soft and sweet Ylang-Ylang. The dry down is slightly powdery on me. I was a bit afraid that this would be a very green fragrance, but it’s not. It’s a beautifully elegant heady floral. Would I add this to my collection? Definitely!

On me, Eau de Jane is a timeless scent. I too was a bit afraid it would be too green. But it isn't. The middle is pleasantly soapy. I smell so clean! I love it.

I was expecting a bracing, bitter, green scent upon reading the note breakdown, but Eau de Jane has an unexpectedly fruity twist to it. A rather estery opening, a transparent and sweet ylang-ylang note, and a surprisingly tame, but still granular galbanum combine to conjure the illusion of a juicy, overripe apple - specifically the soft, mealy types like Royal Gala that leave a slightly powdery texture on your tongue. As the brief but joyous opening subsides, sweet canteloupe inflections begin to appear, wrapped up by gentle, soft sandalwood notes and a subtly bitter oakmoss that balances out the juiciness. This was a surprise, and quite unlike anything i've tried before.
