Woof xJessax I just read all of your reviews and thank you for posting them here. Like you, I really love Mexican Vanilla but I reserve it for when I want something special. Because of your review, I would have worn it today if I had not picked another. And now I want to .... Isn't Queen just great? Nobody even notices it and its $10 and one of the best fragrances ever made. It amazes me that things slip through the cracks with people running to buy Creed this or Tom Ford that and there are just better fragrances out there that you can buy with a tenner and still get some change. Jeffrey Dame is such a gentleman and this might be his best creation. I would not argue that it is not. I am still in love with Mate Helitrope Patchouli and I see that you have it on your love list as well and I hope to see you review it someday. I probably shouldn't be talking about Mexican Vanilla until I get my bottle down to 50% and have used it a bit more and have a better feel for it but I know that I love it. And it staggers me that it is such a screaming buy at $65 when so much niche runs over a $100, $200, or more. Guerlain Spiriteuse Double Vanille is running $260 these days plus shipping and tax. Is there anybody that thinks its more interesting, outperforms, or smells better than Black Flower Mexican Vanille? Really ??? There are wallet empty type fragrance reviews where people rate these guys higher based on price spent. Side by Side, For performance and smell, I think Dame would win. I guess the Guerlain bottles look fancy. I cannot tell you how much I like the Artwork on the Dame bottles. Just as Queen is probably the best Cognac fragrance ever produced even when you consider that Tom Ford has some of them and Encounter is very good. I think Queen could beat a Tom Ford fragrance or two and your review of it was spot on. I have a few Dame fragrances and notice that you have a large want list. You have great taste and if you would ever like to swap a decant and maybe try out another Dame then pm me and let me know. I do not like swaps but I would for you because I can tell you really work to choose your scents well. Black Flower Mexican Vanilla is just great. I love vanilla! Unfortunately i can't wear it much down here in florida. :( This fragrance is a very dense and robust vanilla/caramel gourmand. It is a dry version not like vanilla ice cream or vanilla extracts Kinda like vanilla powder sprinkled on carmel. I would love to smell this on a lady in the right setting. Probably an evening out on the town and sharing a loving embrace after the nights festivities are drawing close to an end. The moment i was close enough to be blessed with holding her near me. Then smelling this on her would totally drive my senses crazy! Sexiness in a bottle! Just being honest here. It does dry down to a musky vanilla with the caramel holding on with something extra hiding in the background. Not sure of that extra note. But it's pleasant. The perfume is tenacious and lasts for hours probably pushing 12. If you like a drier vanillic gourmand that lasts perhaps check this out. ** anyone can wear this. A very beautiful vanilla fragrance that while clearly unisex as a man I would not want to wear... That being said this fragrance smells INCREDIBLE on my wife... She says it smells of Autumn and Halloween and I agree wholeheartedly... It starts off very unique to my nose as a spicy dry vanilla with a LOT of nutmeg... As time goes on the nutmeg slowly drops down and a more creamy caramel/vanilla like scent emerges which is both beautiful and extremely sexy on a woman... Longevity is over the 12+ hour mark though after the first few hours it gets very close to the skin BUT with a scent like this I want to be the only person to smell it when I nuzzle her neck... Like all of the fragrances in this line that I have sampled the ingredients are clearly topnotch... My wife and I already have multiple 'vanilla' fragrances including Guerlain's SDV but as this fragrance is very different then the others in our collection I can see her having a full bottle of this in the future... Great job Jeffrey Dame on this one... 8/10

This is really, really good! Black Flower Mexican Vanilla smells like a rich and delightfully not-sweet vanilla, dancing nicely with citrus, florals, and spices. The drydown is a wonderfully long lasting, comfy blanket of scrumptious vanilla, floral and spice. I have tried both the perfume oil and the edp spray, and found that for me the edp spray has the greater sillage and longevity. I will use them together, year round but more so in cooler weather, when the perfume oil will provide a welcome extra boost of moisture retention. Definitely a favorite! Spring update: Warmer weather brings the florals more forward for me, and the overall effect is gorgeous. I'm even more enchanted with this fragrance in Spring and Summer. Today I'm wearing it layered over the Dame New Musk perfume oil, a delightful combination with the soft lemony musk. This is such a comforting fragrance! It feels like a hug from a good friend.

Mmmm, this is just. so. good. I am loving Black Flower Mexican Vanilla! It was really love at first sniff, but I've worn it 3 different times now, just to make sure. The notes that stand out the most to me are nutmeg, caramel, vanilla, and gardenia, it that order. I don't smell any citrus. The rest of the notes just blend so perfectly to make a warm, grounded background. I did notice the vetiver today, but it joined the other notes pretty quickly. The nutmeg is very pronounced at first, but also dials back as this dries down to a caramelly vanilla with some spice & florals. Out of all of the perfumes I've tried with a caramel note, this one is the best! This is a perfect Fall scent that is sweet and cozy without being heavy or too gourmand. There is a freshness to it that is surprising for such a "warm" scent. It feels very high end. I am so glad I got to experience this fragrance! I highly recommend it!!

Black Flower Mexican Vanilla marks a strong entry in the field of vanilla-dominant fragrances, and it's my favorite from Jeffrey Dame's line so far, after having tried several. The vanilla is dominant and never subservient, yet is coupled elegantly with the other elements of the mix. Caramel and tonka are easier to absorb, as natural bedfellows of vanilla. More so, it's vanilla's harmonious blend with the floral notes (gardenia, jasmine) that makes it such a rarity among gourmands and vanilla-based fragrances in particular that seem to either smell strictly of food or be too floral to be pleasant for men. BFMV is a pleasant blend that can definitely work well for men or women, depending on appetite. Projection and longevity are both strong, solid for an EDP concentration. This is a must-try for fans of vanilla. Excellent blend of vanilla and floral, light spicy notes. 8 out of 10

I was excited to hear about this new perfume brand. Even more excited about it being an American company. I love everything vanilla so I asked for a sample of Black Flower. I received a kind, hand-written note and two samples of perfume. It was love at first sniff. I'm not good at describing all the nuances of a scent, so I will just tell about my personal experience. I found this scent to be sweet, but not candy-like (thank you, Mr. Dame). It's a delicious, grown-up, very feminine kind of sweet. I don't see a man wearing this. To me, this a purely feminine scent. I also can detect the nutmeg (I am a spice addict), and a faint citrusy note. What I love about this scent is how smooth it is. It is intense, but does not smack you on the nose. It's a warm, comfortable scent. Very elegant and yet mysterious. Well done, DamePerfumery!

Today I retested this one and its so well done such quality in ingredients that is a total love for me (which I already knew ). Thank you so much for your wonderful creations Jeffrey you are not only a very talented perfumer but also a genuine artist along with your dad and its drawing for the labels a true master piece as a whole, in my humble opinion. It starts very light on me with hints of flowers and then it grows to the most amazing sweet vanilla not sickly sweet with hints of toffee or caramel and traces of clove or cinnamon or a mix of both ( I know they are not on the list ) but that's how I perceive it maybe its the nutmeg and it has a great sillage and longevity so far 4+ hours. Its versatile as well in the way that its not more on the feminine or masculine side; can be pulled by anyone. This is my new obsession!

Those of you who are lamenting the discontinuation of Jo Malone's Ginger Biscuit might do well to get your hands on some samples of Black Flower Mexican Vanilla. This vanilla fragrance has an almost gingerbread level of spiciness, which is original and a welcome change in the vanilla sea. This is not an every day crowd pleaser although it IS pleasing... It's what Pacifica's Mexican Hot Cocoa should have been. This would be very warming in crisp autumn weather. Spicy gourmand lovers check it out. Strikes me as definitely unisex. Guys who dig Spice Bomb and Eau des Baux should look into this lovely niche alternative. Autumnal biscuity spicy goodness. Does NOT smell like a candle. Smells like it was made to be worn (though a candle wouldn't be bad either). Thanks to the lovely Fragrantican who enabled me to sample this.

I have the perfumed roller oil and a sample of the body cream. (They also sell an EDP spray and hair oil.) Both are luscious and lickable. It smells a bit like cinnamon graham crackers, but less “wheat-y” and more “gourmet.” Sillage is somewhat soft; longevity is pretty good, ~5 hours or so. I love my vanillas, and this one is a winner in my book. Additionally, for those of you lamenting the discontinuation of L de Lolita, please, please, please check out this excellent and delectable scent. It’s very similar, except it doesn’t have the bitter top notes that L de Lolita has, which is what turned me off to it. IMO, Black Flower Mexican Vanilla is much better, and the price, you’ll see, is quite nice. Get the body cream, too! Check it out!

Black Flower is rich, dark, red-pepper vanilla. It is obviously "vanilla", but don't expect you'll understand this scent immediately. Black Flower is not a Crème brûlée, dessert scent. It starts out woody and dry, and it heats up into a sizzling boozy vanilla chai. It's boldly seductive. This doesn't have the traditional femininity of "standard" vanilla perfumes, so it's mysterious as well. It takes some time to wear this, understand it, let it take your mind away, before it feels like a part of you. Extremely sensual...fans of deep vanilla will be unable to resist this decadence.The artwork on the bottle is exquisite, and unique. I cherish the bottle as well as the liquid inside it. I adore this perfume and its perfumer!

Wearing the sample I got in the mail today. Its a nice vanilla scent without being too straight/pure vanilla. It isn't exceedingly sweet either which is typical of vanillas. Its quite dark and complex as the name and note pyramid suggests. I know that some might disagree but I am going to go ahead and compare it to a A*men- which I love. Its much less musty or earthy or tar-based which is what I think many don't like about A*men so try this one out if you want to love A*men but do not. The vanilla, sandalwood, patchouli, caramel, warm spice is great and quite complex. I think I would characterize it as more a very mature, masculine scent but my wife likes it too. I'll keep you posted on the longevity!

Black Flower Mexican Vanilla is a beautiful woody/spicy vanilla, deep and alluring, exotic and creamy, rich and delicate too, and a little smoky and dry. It's lovely!!! Soft and comforting. Sweet and smooth and elegant. Luxurious very luxurious. Quite intoxicating. In fact, I love it more and more, the more I wear it. It has quickly become one of my very favourite perfumes, after having worn it off and on for a couple of weeks - I'm becoming addicted to it!!! It's very popular amongst my friends! Everyone loves it! Especially my husband. It's very natural smelling and entirely captivating!!! And the bottle is superbly made, with the exquisite artwork on the label. Beautiful.

Mature Vanilla in the best way. Im beginning to get worn out on the sweet vanilla gourmand train. It seems most houses on the market have some kind of vanilla driven perfume. When you think youve tried them all, along comes DAME. Its a very enjoyable grown up vanilla, much like the extract you can purchase in mexico, and other additions like caramel, and citrus to keep it from veering into a sweet frag thats been done too many times. I love the spices, the dryness to it..its a luxe vanilla that has a point of view and thoughtfully designed. Well done, and full bottle worthy for the cooler fall temps.

This is one of my favorite vanillas. I got a sample through Dame's wonderful postcard program and was excited to see the handwritten card I got back in the mail from him. I don't require that my fragrances come from small shops with that level of care but, oh, how it's nice when good fragrances come from good people. BFMV is creamy, rich, and a bit spicy on my skin. I find myself gravitating toward it in the fall, at that first snap of cool air. It might be too, too much in the spring and summer. This is FBW for me.

Wow, why haven't I ever discovered this before! Most perfumes I try anymore, are ho hum. Nothing burgers, not a pleasant surprise. Isn't it wonderful when you find one that connects with everything about you!? Well, it's spicy, it's warm, the vanilla is like they say here, not really gourmand, but oh so lovely. This is very sexy too! I think I am going to purchase a bottle, and the roller. I haven't been this excited for a fragrance in a long time. I would suggest get a sample and give it a whirl. Wow, I'm in love!

I adore oriental vanilla fragrances. This is an amazing new addition to my collection (I think it beats Dior Addict). Its rich and mysterious. The longer it wears (and it is seriously 12 hours or more on my skin) the more sensual it gets. The layers of scent and sophistication compare with perfumes that I have spend ridiculous amounts of money on. I actually had to force myself to take a few days off from it, so that I did not run the risk of my nose getting used to it. The price is a steal for its beauty.

What can I say about this amazing perfume. I received a sample and it was love at first sniff. I use to be into tooth achingly sweet vanillas, but this is perfect. It's not really a sweet perfume per say but more of a vanilla extract, spicy, slightly smoky vanilla. The first day I wore it I got 2 complements. One was from my husband and he rarely gives me complements. I will always have this in my collection. It's signature worthy for sure. I highly recommend you try it, you'll be hooked!

This is SO gorgeous. Really a top notch scent, I believe it can compete with many other niche vanillas. Warm spiced cinnamon vanilla, fuzzy and comforting but not TOO sweet. Longevity is actually really good on me, which is surprising. Sillage moderate. And the price point isn't bad either, compared to many other niches. I ordered some samples from Jeffrey Dame and you can tell he really cares about his stuff- handwritten card was a nice touch. Overall excellent, I want a bottle ASAP!

I got a sample of this thanks to a swap with a generous Fragrantican (Thank you!) and I love it. I love spicy vanilla scents and this has become my favorite of them all. On me this is a warm spicy vanilla, nutmeg, patchouli, and a little flash of jasmine. It stays fairly close to the skin on me but it I could smell it for 5 or 6 hours with little fading. It is not a candy sweet vanilla in the least. Smells warm and sexy. Will be getting a full bottle of this in the near future.

I am writing this review, in between deep whiffs of my inner wrists. Black Flower Mexican Vanilla is on the dry side and not very sweet, which is refreshing in a vanilla scent, unless of course you *want* to smell like a walking, plastic cookie. You won't find a synthetic smell here, just a creamy, slightly spiced vanilla with just enough citrus to keep it bright. In short, this is a grown-ass women's vanilla: warm and rich and well rounded.

I was delighted to be the recipient of the samples giveaway from Dame Perfumery. A generous sample of this was nicely packaged in a box along with three other samples. The Black Flower Mexican Vanilla perfume smells so delicious. It's a comfy gourmand scent, spicy and a bit smokey. Perfect for cold weather. I'm not sure I want to walk around smelling liked baked goodies all the time, so I'll reserve this for cold winter nights.

I had my sample vial in my fleece jacket pocket and my jacket was draped over a chair in a room with about 20 ft. ceilings. It is a large room. People walking in and out kept saying "it smells so good in here, like vanilla, maye it's you" At that point I hadn't even sprayed any on! I checked the vial later and it was leaking a little. Wow. This stuff has projection and quality ingredients to make it stand out!

I dislike vanilla. I love this. It is a burst of citrus then caramel and vanilla/tonka. A dry, boozy cooking vanilla. It's not sickening sweet nor totally gourmand because of the mix of florals, citrus, musk, patch and vanilla. The vanilla is prominent but tempered. It starts out sweet, citrus and powdery with some floral but not vanilla; dries down to a spicy, warm, creamy rich amber vanilla.

Rich, creamy vanilla caramel with a soft lemony pop, dusting of fresh spices, and a faint green touch lurking beneath. Dense yet sufficiently uplifted by the citruses, spices and white florals, this caramel retains a sense of fluidity as it cools to room temperature. Xerjoff Lira with more depth and complexity. Moderate projection for 2-3hr, longevity 6-8hr.

Completely head over heels in love with this perfume! Like many others, I also received this beauty as a free sample. It's everything I want in a fragrance! smalltownbeatnik is absolutely right. This vanilla is MAJOR. It's even better than Serge Lutens Bois Vanille, L'Artisan Vanille Absoluement, Dior Addict, and loads of other heavenly vanillas. And less expensive! I ordered two of the travel-size sprays, and I already have a feeling that I'll be following that with an order of a larger bottle.

I’ve owned this since 2017 and it seems to get better with age. Perhaps the maceration concept is true. It’s the loveliest vanilla out there. Lemon pound cake with a hint of cinnamon. Also- best value for the money if you want the ultimate vanilla perfume. Extremely comforting as I’m sick in bed with a cold and it’s freezing outside.

I've let this sit, mature if you will, and it's just a lovely, spicy, creamy vanilla. I have the oil, spray perfume and the hair oil. It's fraction of the price of some of the more expensive vanillas and blows them out of the water. It did take about a year and a half for me to really appreciate it, but when it clicked ~ it clicked.

This is one of the only vanilla fragrances I've found that seems to balance nicely with other elements so none are overpowering. The caramel sweetness is a presence here, but not too much so. The vanilla is a steady presence, but subtly shaded by the resinous/woody elements for a burnished, beautiful quality. Absolutely gorgeous.

My my skin is really picking up the nutmeg (one of my favorite spices, and very rare to find a true nutmeg note in any perfume!), which is phenomenal. I also notice a green vibe to it, like the actual vanilla orchid plant (hence the name, I guess?). I understand why people mentioned Havana Vanille. A unique, rare, creamy vanilla.

I got a sample of this perfume as a part of the contest giveaway on fragrantica a while back . Thanks a lot for the group at Dame perfumery. Let me tell you, this is the best Vanilla based perfume i have smelled. Not only is it not very sweet but the woodiness adds to the liking. Will definelty add it to my purchase list.

Absolutely breathtaking, perfect vanilla...not too sweet and not too spicy...great price point of $85 for a huge, beautiful 100ml bottle that will last...don't let the ridiculous amount of fragrance notes listed here and officially scare you...this is a perfect vanilla without added sugar or smoke...this is PERFECT...

Deep, lush, woody vanilla + nutmeg soliflor with some caramelic sweetness and woody floral depth (gardenia) with just a hint of vetiver popping up now and again. There is a touch of citrus crispness at the outset, but there is a fairly quick and substantial evolution to that delicious woody vanilla nutmeg confection.

Black Flower Mexican Vanilla: extremely unique, great for layering. Very strong and long lasting. Latsted 3-5 hours. Smells like horchata (vanilla rice milk, cinnamon & spices) to me, but can have a "vintage" smell on dry down. I like to wear it under other vanilla or coconut scents to add complexity.

This is WONDERFUL. I was sure there was Anise in here but I guess not. Anyways, I was thrilled this wasn't too sickly sweet, I can't stop smelling my hand. Thrilling perfume. My masculinity is safe with this vanilla which is rare, love it.

It’s outstanding and backup bottle worthy! The most delicious vanilla laced with lemon with a sprinkling of cinnamon on top! I adore this. It’s unique and lovely and the performance is outstanding.

I LOVE this fragrance...It is a pure, warm, sexy vanilla bomb. It is uncluttered and perfect....I seriously love it.

Well, this is definitely going on my love shelf, along with buying a full bottle of this cozy fragrance for winter. This is a very sophisticated and classy take on a spicy vanilla. Admittedly, the opening had me worried. I got a strong dose of dry, powdered nutmeg and I feared it would suffocate me; however, it only lasted about two or three minutes, and then the vanilla-floral combo showed itself. About thirty minutes in, the floral faded into the background, and the pronounced vanilla and nutmeg blended into something edible - spiced sugar cookie...pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks. I wasn't expecting that at all, but it was such a nice surprise! I've read a couple comparisons to L'Artisan Vanille Absolument (Havana Vanille), which I can easily understand, but for me, Black Flower is what I'd always hoped L'Artisan could have been. Where L'Artisan was a dry, dirty and sweaty vanilla, Black Flower is a fresh, comfy and spicier vanilla. Cream cashmere sweater appropriate, work appropriate, date appropriate. Unisex, though it's neither too masculine nor too feminine. Received a, "Mmmm...you smell good," from my hubby which is a miracle in itself since he has horrible sinuses. Longevity is 10+ hours, but that's wearing in the evening and waking to the smell of it lingering on my skin. Might be 8+ hours if worn during the day and through work - body chemistry and all that. Projection is moderate, but it can be heavy if sprayed liberally. I've been wearing Black Flower Mexican Vanilla (cool name, btw) the past four evenings/nights - it's still too hot here in Texas to wear during the day. Yum!

I got this blind not knowing what to expect, but I’d tried a few from this house before with mixed feelings. Happy to report I love this one! When I heard the term Mexican Vanilla, I imagined a vanilla extract smell, something pure and along the lines of Cologne of the Missions. This is something different entirely. When I sprayed it on I thought “This smells like Christmas” It has a perfect blend of vanilla and baking spices and I have no idea what baked good it is I’m smelling exactly but there’s something undeniably reminiscent of holiday baking to this. And it also smells quite like a strong Christmas candle, there’s something almost oily/waxy to it that I normally associate with fragrances as being cheap and low-grade in quality but for some reason I’m loving it in this. It’s adding to its charm. As it wears on I do get this note to it that’s unmistakably the smell of blown out candle wicks on my skin. It’s quite fascinating and makes me want to keep sniffing it, but I notice I only get the blown out candle smell as it wafts up to my nose. When I inhale deeper I just get that sweet intoxicating confectionary Christmas smell. Like a candle and a cookie all rolled into one. Or a cookie scented candle, that I actually want to wear on my skin. Big love!

This is lovely, warm, happy vanilla. Like hugging your favorite teddy bear from childhood. Or getting a lovely hug from your mom. Or when she told you "I love you". It inspires a soft and safe feeling. Mr. Dame really captured what really makes vanilla the most popular scent in the world. And most popular ice cream flavor. This feels like your favorite feel good or inspirational movie. No matter how often you see it, you feel a balm in your heart. The price point and the quality is superb. My only pique is that I feel it doesn't last long on me. I also like my vanilla with almonds just because my chemistry seems to work best with that. But as far as perfume goes, trust me when I say that this is very much worth it. If you blind buy it, you will be pleasantly surprised. If you are by some miracle not, I will assume you insane. Song equivalents: Jason Mraz's "The Remedy", "Summertime" by Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff, "Fields of Gold" by Sting, and "Paradise" by Sade. Mellow and yellow vibes with a tinge of lazy seduction. The words I'd use to describe it... sophisticated, ethereal, cheerful, rustic, comforting. This is one of the rare times where "one size" really does fit all. A favorite.

Mmmm, another unique vanilla! This one is a must-have for vanilla lovers. Bordering on gourmand/non-gourmand, Black Flower opens up with a gorgeous sweet/spicy vanilla & caramel blend. The heart through the drydown are very creamy, cozy, delicious & intriguing. This is not a cloying vanilla that makes you smell like a little girl's birthday cake, but a very distinguished, aristocratic, grand vanilla! (Bordering on food-y, but not quite there.) The nutmeg gives it an edge of a woody/gingerbread-esque accord which is invigorating and fills the scent with warmth. Something unlike anything I've smelled before! I was itching for a new vanilla in my wardrobe, and against 3 other competitors, this was a winner for immediate full-bottle! The hype is true, this is wonderful. (Definitely wait for the dry-down before making your judgement on this one. Some note in the top of the fragrance has a slightly soapy/screechy accord to it which blends strangely with the gourmand notes. (Jasmine? Vetiver? Sandalwood? Usually those are the culprits on my skin. Once that fades, you're golden!)

I haven't met a single thing from this house I've disliked, maybe not loved for me, but nothing that I've had to scrub, and this is no exception. This is a dry and spicy vanilla, not so much a gourmand as it is an oriental, and is one of the few scents I feel could truly be unisex, and I rarely say that, most things either play decidedly masculine or feminine to me, even if they are intended for both genders. This has a really smooth balance that seems to play up the chemistry of the wearer. There's a baked earth note, likely from the Patchouli, and a leathery one, likely from the nutmeg+tonka that seem to amplify on my husband, while the floral notes seem to smooth those out and stand up on me. There are so few houses I can wear so many scents from, and this is one! (Great customer service, too!)

This is a winner. Immediately after application, I get a sharp (but pleasant) scent, mostly vetiver. It wasn't a strongly vanilla scent until I got through the dry-down. After about half an hour, it mellowed and began to get creamier. It evolved into a warm, dry vanilla with just a hint of patchouli, nutmeg, and white floral. I never got any citrus in this, but that's OK with me. It also has impressive longevity. While putting my daughter to bed, she said "Mommy, you smell yummy." That was 10 hours after I put it on! Like user aym, I received a lovely hand-written note from Mr. Dame with my samples. Very classy! I'm still deciding whether this is bottle-worthy, but I'm very happy I tried this. It's beautiful on its own, but I think it would be brilliant for layering.

I actually don’t like vanilla, honestly I don’t, and I even try to avoid fragrances that feature it in any particular prominence. BUT, clearly you are all so convincing in your reviews that when I was ordering my beloved Earth Mother, I couldn’t resist adding this. On me, an ever so slightly bitter creme caramel sauce type of vanilla emerges, it definitely also has a baking aspect to it. It’s lush but contained at the same time, it’s not sickeningly sweet, it’s addictive. Now, while I still can’t say I am a vanilla enthusiast, I keep wearing this and although it’s not a favourite, I can’t bring myself to consider parting with it. This review is for the oil version and I’d like to add that the body cream is wonderful: rich, long-lasting and excellent quality.. love it

I just received my small bottle today. It is a very nice scent. The vanilla is rich and thick and very similar to the Micallefs Note Vanillee and Vanille Orient. There is something else that puts this one over the top though. My husband commented that it smelled "fatty" and I know exactly what he meant. There is a nutty quality to the scent. Almost a hazelnut note. It reminds me of the depth and decadence that hazelnut adds to a chocolate truffle. I was surprised to realize it might be too much for me as an every day personal scent kind of fragrance (and I am a fan of all things rich and decadent), but it is a yummy experience. I see myself enjoying this in small servings.

Wore this a few times and every time I put the perfume on it reminds me how similar it is to the dry down of L by Lolita Lempicka, except for the lack of cinnamon and sweetness. I honestly think Black Flower Mexican Vanilla is too well-rounded and hence is just okay - there's no daring character that makes it stand out from the rest of the vanilla crowd, especially compared to L - that's one fantastic airy, spicy, floral vanilla! However my partner is very partial to this perfume. I wore this on our anniversary and he actually gave a damn and asked if he was smelling my perfume: "It smells really nice!" Apparently it's just me that doesn't get it. Ha!
