Leather Man

I find Leather Man to be a terrific light-leather fragrance that is both unique and somewhat familiar. Within a minute of application, it quickly turns into a light-leather scent (think tan not dark brown or black leather) with sweetness (think sugar) and a some floral, herbal and woody notes blended into a really nice aromatic backdrop supporting this fragrance and giving it modern feel. To me, this one smells like a more elegant and polished version of Carolina Herrera CH Men: same light-leather feel, similar can sugar vibe, less-sweet and, therefore, a bit more mature and sophisticated. I am not saying they smell identical--certainly not--but there is enough of a familiarity for me to make the association. I'm not sure if Leather Man is a cologne or toilette concentration, but it performs well for a light/fresh leather scent and I get a solid 6-7 hours while wearing Leather Man. Projection is moderate, which fits this style of fragrance quite well. To me, it is an intimate evening scent when you plan to snuggle and canoodle with the object of your affection. I generally prefer bold, dominating and in-your-face leather fragrances such as Tuscan Leather, La Yuquwam, Golden Boy, Godolphin and others. However, I also enjoy full-bodied leather fragrances that are a bit more smooth, subtle, polished and refined (e.g., Cuir de Russie, Royal Leather, Cuir Cannage and Colonia Leather). More recently, I've fallen in love with light-leather scents that are much more playful and merely tickle one's fancy, and skin, as though strands from a leather Cat o' nine tails were being gently ran over one's skin with barely there leathery kisses. Some good examples would be Fan di Fendi Pour Homme, John Varvatos, Vince Camuto for Men and CH Men that has been drenched in cane sugar. Just an interesting range of fragrances that are possibly in this light-leather category..especially for those those love being ticked by Cat o' nine tails as opposed to being beaten with it unmercifully. Leather Man is definitely one of my favorite light-leather fragrances. Okay, I must say the floral notes in Leather Man (Iris, Jasmine, Gardenia and Water Lily) had my testosterone-oozing skin a bit concerned because they lessen the darker notes of leather, amber, sandalwood and even balsam. But my cause for concern was soon vanquished as Leather Man struck the right balance and all the favorable olfactory chords. Now that I've worn this one more than a half-dozen times and in various situations...it garners compliments, no doubt! The gals I dated said it smelled very sexy (intimate setting) while, another time, the first two gentleman I ran into asked me what I was wearing and told me how great I smelled. While I am certainly used to receiving compliments while wearing fragrance, I get creeped-out when I'm getting dressed in the gym locker-room and dudes approach me to ask what I'm wearing. Anyway, I had a dental cleaning appointment a short while later and a rather attractive female receptionist told me I smelled great. So there you go! What I most like about Leather Man is that it's a sexy-smelling light-leather scent that has a sweet opening and, while fairly linear, dries with a light amber feel. It smells similar to CH Men (women intoxicating) and an intimate scent that is also fairy versatile. I would feeling comfortable wearing this fragrance during the Spring and Fall and also the not-too-hot Summer nights. I probably would not wear it during the Winter or when it's cold because it won't push-out far enough to be noticed. To me, it's mainly an evening scent (intimate) but I would not wear it clubbing since it doesn't push-out far enough. Although not one of my primary choices for formal/business situations, it wouldn't feel out-of-place because the performance is under control. Also, the bottle is very nice and I appreciate the quality/value of this fragrance. What I didn't like about Leather Man: while it's perfect as an intimate scent, performance could be better. Overall, I get about 6-7 hours out of this one; it projects well during the first 30-60 minutes, softens considerably from 1-4 hours, and is a skin scent from hours 4-6. At least that's how it performed on my skin. Personally, I would love it if Leather Man were offered in parfum or extrait strength. Then again, I say the same thing about a lot of fragrances so take it for what it's worth. Finally, I wasn't thrilled with the sprayer; it didn't spray enough and it didn't match the quality of the bottle. Anyway, I highly recommend giving this one a try. It's an excellent fragrance.

To start this review off. I would like to tell you guys that I get little to no smell of Leather at all. Maybe a faint leather vibe in the opening. But, regardless of that fact. This fragrance is a stunning representation of a woody white floral scent. What you are gonna get from this is a gorgeous sandal wood that is ever so creamy when paired with the white florals like Jasmine and Water Lily. The Water Lily also gives this fragrance a very nice airy yet watery feel when paired with the iris to my nose. I absolutely love this fragrance. So clean and lovely. Beautiful scent in my honest opinion. If you are a sandal wood lover. I think this would be a fantastic addition to your collection. This bad boy has pretty good performance considering the notes in it. Last a good 6 plus hours and also projects very well off of me for 3-4 hours. One of the best white floral fragrances I have put my nose on. And, don't let that deter you guys. This can be easily pulled off by a man. I absolutely love perfumery for these kinds of fragrances. Truly masterful work. Showcasing such beautiful notes in such a fantastic way. I love this hobby for fragrances like this. Thank you for creating such a masterpiece in Leather Man, Jeffrey.

nice, msmonochrome, lovely words and I'm pleased you are enjoying my LEATHER-MAN-COLOGNE. A small point of correction, Dame Perfumery Scottsdale is all about Modern American Perfumery. Not a classic to be found.

This a very clean, crisp leather, with woods and white florals sharpening the edges, and a slight touch of powder and musky animalics in the dry down for warmth, nicely balancing out the scent from having too many tight corners or reading as acrid. The tagline for this company is "Modern American Perfumery" and having had the chance to try this, it is definitely an example of truth in advertising. The overall impression I get from Leather Man is an update on classic Americana, the gold hearted cowboy of innumerable mid century TV westerns, who saves the damsel, chases out the cattle rustlers and stops the bank robbery..... all with room for commercial breaks and without getting a spot of prairie dust on his immaculate white Stetson as he rides off into the sunset. Fairly linear, and the transition from top to drydown is subtle, as I would expect from a cologne concentration. Sillage and projection are both appropriately moderate. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the longevity, and this gave me a full day's wear without needing reapplication. All in all, this is a light and lovely leather that would be suitable for a lot of occasions, that makes an impression without too much shouting about it, in a classically laconic cowboy style. Bright and rather fresh, it makes a nice unisex, and will be a nice addition to my rotation for the days I need a break from my tendency toward the heavy/challenging side of things.

Leather Man is one of my favorite fragrances to date. The opening smells briefly like the balsam and iris, then melds to my impression into a single aroma that is difficult to describe, not really floral or herbal or evoking leather, and not overtly masculine or feminine. If I had to attach a kind of leather idea to it, it would be a smooth supple brown leather of a favorite armchair. I can't recall smelling anything like it before, but I really like it. It's unique and interesting, in a good way. It also lasts a long time for me, easily all day, while not being at all overbearing. Many thanks to Mr. Dame for this excellent creation!

Like a partially dug-up flower bed. Very earthy, dirty in a "wet soil" sense, but only faint leather notes sitting atop a melange of fresh stemmy florals. Gurjun balsam and sandalwood persist in the base as it dries down, the former adding a light resinous character plus a sort of unpleasant sourness off my skin. (Usually I get that from benzoin but I digress.) Soft projection for ~2hr, longevity 6-8hr. Green thumbs might enjoy, but like Citrus Man I have to be disappointed at the lack of focus on the alleged central note here.

I agree with others who say there isn't much leather in Leather Man. I would say it is floral in the most accessible way--which is to say I don't mind it when I usually avoid florals. It is clean and outdoorsy in the beginning and then... poof--it just doesn't have much to say--it disappears quickly. I wouldn't buy it but was glad to sample it, as it does seem to be a blend I haven't smelled before.

This is OK, it's pleasant and all but it's far too light. So far New Musk Men is the best IMHO.

I find myself somewhat indifferent to Dame Perfumery Leather Man Cologne, whereas I certainly liked Herb Man Cologne and New Musk Man Cologne. The concept of a "light leather" fragrance is lost on me somewhat as its inherently animalic and most often sharp character doesn't lend itself to be a standout component of warm weather-friendly fragrances. Still, this is a neat composition in that I've not really smelled anything quite like it. There are clearly a variety of notes in play here, but I don't detect many of the listed one. Rather, I get jasmine in particular but just some other florals more generally, along with a fairly dry base. I don't get the amber at all, frankly. Still, the mix is interesting but just isn't quite flattering on my skin. Unfortunately, Leather Man's performance left a lot to be desired, as it was barely even a skin scent after an hour and a half. Though some might enjoy a lighter scent that fades, I'd certainly prefer leathers to be more robust. Certainly the price is right (at $65 for 100ml) if you dig it, which many seem to. Perhaps it's just not as outstanding my skin---I could see this as just a few tweaks away from being outstanding. 6 out of 10

Rubbing Alcohol Man Green Vegetal Man Flowers in potting soil Man Pleasant Vaguely Woody Dry Down Man The blending in this fragrance yields the stages above, all of which are pleasant and interesting. Of all the dame men colognes I have tried, this one is the most quiet on the skin. It is also not really leathery at all, perhaps only in a dusty rawhide-smelled-from-across-the-room sort of way. The drydown the best part for me, leaving a very pleasant light woody scent trail that lingers for a few hours. I love how all of Jeffrey Dame’s fragrances are more works of art than olfactory battering rams. They all evolve seamlessly and are very natural smelling. They don’t really smell like a typical synthetic “attraction in a bottle” attempt, which makes them interesting to wear, always leaving you wanting more rather than wishing some annoying amboxan/amberwood base note would surrender after 8 hours of continuous assault. As such, I can see these colognes not appealing to everyone, but if you want true niche perfumery at a very affordable price, give JD a try.

This is the leather of spring when there's an excitement in the first wave of greenness. It's lithe, soft aroma is a mix of leather, florals and resinous wood. Water lily, with its lightly sweet/slightly aquatic quality, combined with gardenia, jasmine and iris. Along with a balsam note adding a sweet vanilla-like resin, they imbue the scent with an unusual delicacy. A completely original concept for a leather perfume - it's 'airy'. You might not think of leather as being 'airy', but think of Native American buckskin, or chamois. Thin, hand processed, soft as velvet. Picture Raquel Welch's "One Million Years BC" attire - a wisp of shredded deer skin. "Airy". Much like this perfume. My brother, somewhat of a perfume neanderthal, said I smelled like "leather in a good way" when he first caught a whiff on me. He was stumbling for words to ask about the scent, and it was apparent he loved it. Shortly after, my perfume mysteriously disappeared! LOL! Have to order more!

Received this as a sample with some things purchased from Mr. Dame. Simply a great leather scent unlike all the others. Not heavy but definitively leather and a very slight floral. It's gorgeous as are all the others I received. My first interaction with Mr. Dame's company and a great one at that. A handwritten note with the order from Jeffrey Dame. Where the hell do you get that kind of thing these days? Great scents, great company.

Having used a sample of this one, I can say that is one the lowest performing fragrances I've ever tried; for me it's a skin scent from the initial application. I see this as a floral balsamic scent. I wouldn't say it's leathery, but that it wears like a second skin. More than a cologne, I could see this as the smell of the skin after a bath. Scent: 6/10 Longevity: 2/10 Projection: 1/10

For man? This is more floral and sweet to me. It's clean, very bright and sweet--a little tangy. Not an aged or oiled leather. Imagine: A polished leather on a woman's designer stiletto in a shoe boutique with woman walking around wearing unisex perfume. That's what this smells like. Projection is moderate at best, but longevity is beastly.

I like this! This is a clean leather. A citrusy top note with a leather base. A unique take on leather. Will consider a full bottle. 7/10

This is a great leather and works very well alone or if you want to boost the leather note in one of your other frags.
