Pinyon Pine Man

Sampling Dame Perfumery – Pinyon Pine Man Cologne, a 2022 release that is a piney cologne with supporting notes of lavender, juniper, clary sage, mint, geranium, and of course pine and citruses. It’s immediately splendid and achieves what I hoped it would, sort of a cousin to Creed’s discontinued Epicea but with a bit more spice and less sharpness. Overall, it has a sort of blended floral, spicy, fresh, sharp aroma that is not beholden to the pine solely but I’d still argue that the pineyness is its main feature. It conjures the outdoors while being sophisticated and aromatic. Pine Pine Man Cologne is EDC concentration and priced at $65 for 100ml, very reasonable, sold in the US via the house website and via some boutiques like Olfactif. It performs quite strongly, though, not at all what I would typically expect of something with EDC concentration or described as a cologne, and as I recall, that’s generally been true of the cologne releases from Dame, but perhaps not quite to this extent. So it’s a really impressive value. 8 out of 10

I ordered this as soon as it came out because the notes looked perfectly suited to what I love in fragrance. It is at once exactly what I thought and surprises me at the same time. It smells piney, yes, and pinyon pine is a great name because it reminds me initially of high desert pine rather than temperate forests. Paired with the pine is a load of cedar- more of the earthy bark rather than the fresh cut wood. It’s the oakmoss and musk, though, that smooth out the base take the experience in an unexpected direction. It settles into a mellow woody aromatic (I get a lot of sage too) with the supporting notes blended in seamlessly, as is usually the case with JD’s creations. Mr Dame offers niche creations for a great price. Other houses take note! Than you, Jeff, for these delightful, affordable gems.

Hello Jassar, thank you for asking. I'm assuming you're asking about the original Polo in the green bottle from the 80's - the only one I know. Pinyon Pine Man does have that old school fougere vibe from back in the day, but is mellow and smooth, with the pine note woven throughout, rather like a quiet walk in a pine forest. Polo Green for me at least was much more woody and in your face, like a strong punch, and very green and smokey. If you had Pinyon Pine Man on one hand and Polo on the other you'd say they're not close at all. If anything, Pinyon Pine Man has one or two accents along the line of Pino. :)
