Soliflore Rose De Mai

The most natural and truest rose scent I've ever tried. It opens up with vivid lemony note, eventually gets gentler and more elegant, and once it's completely settled it gives me this feeling that I'm floating on a sea of fresh rose petals. Somewhat smells watery to me. I'm a little... bewildered but this has been helping me go through depression and anxiety a lot. And for that, I cannot thank DAME Perfumery enough. Such a bright, positive scent that reminds me I am alive, makes me want to live, tells me I can do it, and assures me everything is going to be all right. No other fragrance ever had this sort of effect on me before. I usually wish my favourite things to be not too famous but I honestly want DAME to be a worldwide super popular perfumery so that I can keep on buying this perfume forever. I need this in my life. It's like an amulet to me now. I purchased the oil and, on my skin, it doesn't have much sillage nor longevity (I didn't let it sit at all so maybe that's why?). Since there's no alcohol in it, it smells absolutely natural from the very beginning and it's just wonderful.

This is what Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose wishes it could be, but never comes close. Dame rarely disappoints, and again, they hit a home run on this one. As has already been stated, this is the closest thing you'll find to the smell of fresh cut roses, other than the real thing. It starts off sharp and green, but despite it being simplistic, there is a development that rounds the whole thing out after an hour or so, to a sweet, dewy, slightly spicy rose. There is absolutely nothing else in here, and it is completely perfect the way it is. If I didn't love David Yurman so much, this would be my ideal rose. And given the growing scarcity of DY, it might end up taking the place eventually anyhow. If you love rose, this is absolutely a must-have. I tested the 1ml Dame dauber sample. I don't know if there is a significant difference with the spray or the oil.

Recently purchased the Tuberose, Rose, Narcissus, and Gardenia Soliflore oils. Each of them is lovely but this is my favorite. I have so very many rose frags and this is one of the very finest, IMHO. It is so lovely, soft, and photorealistic. So many of my colleagues have said "that is the most beautiful scent you've ever worn." There is no screechy aspect, just a true, sweet, plush rose of a quality one does not often smell. Like garden roses from my childhood, in the days before roses had most of the scent bred out of them. I can't recommend this one highly enough. Sillage and longevity are both impressive. It is gorgeous on it's own, perfect for layering, and the convenient rollerball lets you carry it in purse or pocket. Did I mention the price? An absolute steal. Do yourself a favor, rose lovers and buy this exquisite gem!

This opens up as a true rose scent, bringing back memories of fresh cut roses from my aunt's garden. I distinctly remembered them reminding me of quality, dried tea in a sweet and earthy way and this perfume is the same. There is a kind of syrupy sweetness to this mixed with the floral and sharp green notes that makes me think of honey. This would be lovely alone or layered.

The only other scent I've worn to get a barrage of compliments on my initial wearing is Animalé Animalé for Men. This is the scent of a fresh cut rose, nothing more, nothing less. Simplicity and elegance. The rose soliflore benchmark.

Just received my full bottle of this perfect rose. I’ve been around the block trying to find a fresh rose along the lines of Stella and La Fille de Berlin, but the others get cloying after a few hours. This one does not—it stays fresh and gorgeous. Of course, Mr. Dame sent some wonderful samples, and now I might have to buy Chocolate Rose.

honestly, just great. as good as a rose soliflore could get. delicate pink rose petals, fresh with dew, sharp like thorns, intoxicating and delicious. a whisper of a citrus effect just from an overwhelming dose of freshness. it's great. if you love rose, look here, it's the perfume form of sniffing the flower on the bush.

I got a sample of this (the alcohol, not the oil) and at first it doesn't smell like rose at all, more like fruity bubblegum, but after a while it really does, transforms into this soft natural floral very nice for a few hours and then fades away. I'd be curious to see how the oil perfume was different.

i agree with covergirl84's comment about the lemon; i think this is what supports the vivid, succulent freshness. this scent is _arresting_. i could feel it in my eyes as i huffed it from my arm. so evocative and real. love the dames and this one is like empress of all dames. *this review is of the edt

This is very natural smelling, like a nose full of rose blossom from a time when roses were roses, lush, robust, and intoxicating! Not fusty at all, nor deep and jammy, but more like a fresh and vibrant rose. Excellent sillage and longevity for me as well (I have the EDT). If you love roses, do try it!

A gorgeous, natural, innocent rose scent. Smells like a pink rose on a bush turned up to 100, with a bit of a citrus brightness. Perfect for layering and perfect on its own. Where to wear: act 2 scene 2 Romeo and Juliet

A very pretty and natural smelling rose perfume. It smells like a high quality rose water rather than the fresh flower. I love to spray on rose water, but the scent only lasts a couple of minutes. Problem solved!

This is a soft, sweet, pure rose. It smells like juice squeezed from a barely opened Madame Isaac Pereire bud. Classically beautiful, yet down-to-earth.

I find it amusing how this humble little roll-on smells like a more natural rose than fragrances ten times its price.

Jeffery Dame Rose de mai is a pretty tea rose perfume. It is much gentler than Perfume Workshop Tea Rose which can come off screechy. I think he should have called this perfume Tea rose because it smells like tea roses (I grow them) they are fresh, clean w/ slight minty and aromatic nuances. This is not a powdery rose, but a clean true light pink tea rose scent. Unisex, would be just as lovely and great on a man as it would be a woman. I would give this to a young girl as well who loves roses. Very pretty tea rose soliflore.

Does it smell like rose? Yeah, although I notice a bit of added citric freshness in the opening that I haven't in Dame's other soliflores I've tried so far. A soft, velvety, almost powdered red-pinkish rose, as if the flowers would crumble to dust were I to touch them. There's a green undertone if I go looking for it, but it's very faint. Musky drydown. Moderately soft projection for 2-3hr, longevity 6-8hr.

Nothing girly about this one, has a sensuous quality that is head-turning. Recommend!

A kind Fragrantican sent me the last of a 50ml EDT bottle to sniff because she knows how much I love rose perfumes. It's my second favorite note, and this was not even on my radar, and I love it. I took my dog for a walk because it's Spring, the weather is perfect, and everything is in bloom. In my neighborhood, there are a few master gardeners who have some breathtaking roses that I love to bury my nose in. I got some of this perfume on my hands because the bottle leaked in transit; so I had this on my hands, and real pink roses all around me, and I could not tell the difference!! This honestly smells like a garden full of fresh pink tea rose in full bloom in midday sun. It's so photorealistic, that I can even smell the green stems and lemony tartness that some of the older roses give off. Even for an EDT this thing is nuclear. I have no idea who drained this 50ml bottle, but it would have to be someone who takes their roses straight up with no chaser. There is a scene in the Spiderwick Chronicles TV show where the character Aunt Lucinda transforms into a statue of pink roses, then explodes. That's how I feel in this; like a million pink roses exploded on my skin.

I personally think this perfume is at the Mason-Dixon of Serge Lutens Fille De Berlin & Perfumer's Workshop-Tea Rose. It has all of Luten's green, tamed tea-rose juiciness and all of PW's pungent, "old-fashioned", piercing spring brightness. Which Kinda spooked me at first. Rose De Mai, cleaned up the tea-rose here. The rose note is simple. feminine-tea rose with a little "pink" on it, green foliage, and unisex musk. Not a musk that changes with chemistry. Its aroma is locked in place. I'm writing the review because I was MOST impressed with the duration of the lemon note.Well into the middle. Not a generic citrus accord, but straight lemon oil. Like distilled lemon zest. I agree with Miracleborg, it does smell 'antique'. Think wealthy matriarchs, debutantes, mid-length swing-dresses, fine china, etc..all in action at outdoor spring Tea-parties on big antebellum homes properties. Not something I could see myself wearing daily. The Lutens's is more for that kind of "green Tea rose" wearing, IMO.

Dame Perfumery's Soliflore Rose De Mai is bright and fresh, a bouquet of roses in your face, reminding me somewhat of the Desert Rose perfume that I tried a couple of years ago. Rose De Mai isn't a type of rose that I'm very familiar with, but I like its expression here---sharp, bright, yet still refreshing. Feminine, but not terribly more so than any other fresh rose tends to be. Not my favorite type of rose composition but still somewhat interesting. The Soliflore line offers a purity and freshness in florals, it seems, but that offers that challenge of enjoying just the singular floral note that accompanies each. Inherently it's feminine, despite me being a rose lover myself, but that's not generally problematic. Performance is okay---not quite good or great, but just, say, average, mediocre for a freshie EDT. Still, the craft and care of the brand and the perfumer Jeffrey Dame are obvious even though I confess this one isn't quite for me despite being, say, pleasant enough. 6 out of 10

if you love roses and crave a soliflore then treat yourself because this is gorgeous. I actually was coming here to say "this is what Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose wishes it could be" but I see that ptilda beat me to it! TBH I can't stand Tea Rose (and actually wrote a review about it saying so) but the comparisons are obvious. However! Where TR is screechy and synthetic and somehow (to me) dour and stuffy and the enemy of sexiness, this one smells natural and pretty and fresher, like a mountain of crushed petals. If you like the idea of a rose soliflore, then just do yourself a favor and at least sample this. And if you like Tea Rose and are ready to graduate to its more sophisticated sister, this is definitely for you!

Beautiful, simple rose. I haven't tried layering anything with it. I'm happy (actually ecstatic) with it just like it is. It reminds me of Constantinople where they sprinkle everything with rose water. Presuming this is a rose absolute with some degree of synthetic magic going on, but overall scent isn't overpowering or headache inducing thankfully. Office safe. Longevity/projection is good, not great. Totally natural smelling and lovely.

Thank you Dame for the wonderful sample of this rose. This is a 100% true red rose to me. In comparison with Jo Malone Red Roses, RR is more citrusy and sharper. MFK a la rose is a light pink rose with citrus as well. Rose de Mai smells like a fresh mature blooming rose. Beautiful and one of the best roses out there!

Smells like a big red antique garden rose! Vivid down to the yellow stamen brushing pollen on your nose. Bright - probably has a tinge of lime in the far distant background to keep the freshness. Great rose scent!
