Love's Soft Jasmin

It’s baaaaack! I bought a couple of bottles recently from the official Dana site, and have had ample time to test them now. This latest version of Soft Jasmin is close enough to the version I had as a teen in the early 90s that I’m pleased. Updated notes from the back of the package: Top: Jasmine Middle: Rose, lily-of-the-valley, green violet Base: Musk, orange flower It’s soft, for sure, but more mature than Love’s other offerings (currently only Baby Soft and Fresh Lemon). It’s a cozy, intimate but intoxicating jasmine. I have a feeling some might find it a bit too synthetic, but if you’ve ever caught a whiff of jasmine on a cool summer night, it really does smell almost artificially sweet. In a good way! What I really love about Soft Jasmin is that the jasmine is the star of the show, from beginning to end, without the musk crowding it out. Here, musk is a supporting actress, content on letting the jasmine take center stage. None of the other florals take over, either. I don’t detect the rose in this at all. I’ve been wearing this to bed, and it lasts through to the morning. I think performance would be worse during the day. Sillage is quite close. This doesn’t give me a headache, like other jasmine fragrances do. One last thing I want to share: While the original Soft Jasmin can be found secondhand across the web, and I’ve purchased several old bottles, both in the spray and the splash, it typically doesn’t hold up over time. The plastic splash bottles especially, even if “new” and never opened, are exposed to more air. The ones I’ve purchased tend to smell like acetone. They might have a bit of fragrance after drying, but it’s not enough to satisfy that nostalgic, teen-at-her-vanity experience, if that’s what you’re after. I’ve had slightly better luck with the glass spray bottles, but even then, it’s still a bit off. You might want to save yourself some heartache and just get a new bottle.

When I was a preteen/teen in the late 80's/early 90's, I discovered Love's Soft Jasmin and instantly fell in love with the softness and gentleness of the fragrance. I had a gold mirrored tray that I had on my dresser where I displayed my Soft Jasmin with the original Love's Baby Soft, along with my other inexpensive drugstore perfumes and strawberry and cherry flavored lip glosses. I don't know what happened to that bottle but I never stopped thinking of how it smelled. Every time I saw a jasmine perfume, I kept hoping it would smell like it. Over the past few months, I've been yearning to smell it again for nostalgic reasons, and Ebay came to the rescue because I found a brand new MEM Love's Soft Jasmine:) The seller must have taken good care in storing it because it smelled exactly how I remembered it... soft, pretty and feminine. Soft Jasmin just had that special something because it left a lasting impression on me all these years... I sprayed it on my wrist a moment ago and was instantly transported back to 5th grade and how I felt... shy, awkward, not yet comfortable in her own skin, but for a few moments when I sprayed that perfume, I felt pretty :) This special perfume bottle full of wonderful childhood memories is now sittting on my adult vanity table 30 years later. It makes me smile :)

I wore this when I was in 8th grade, in 1979/80. It was called "Love's Musky Jasmin Flower", and I always thought the name was awkward. I think it was released around 1972, but I'm not sure. There used to be a "Love's" makeup line, as well as the fragrance line. It was a popular brand even before the fame of the iconic "Love's Baby Soft". I think "Soft Jasmin" is a much better name for this green, airy, pretty jasmine. Without a doubt, I am anosmic to the musk used in this blend, these days, so the fragrance smells very different to me from what I remember of it. However, it's extremely pretty. It's too bad somebody doesn't remake this scent blend with better ingredients (and way less alcohol), because it would be a great seller!

The first "grown up" perfume I remember owning, after Petite Nate and Tinkerbell. How I cherished my bottle, it made my 8-year-old self feel like a teenager (back in '93!) It certainly begat my love for jasmine perfumes. I actually think it captures a "true" jasmine quality--Soft Jasmin reminds me of Mugler Alien, if you can believe it. I currently own a Dana bottle, and keep it safely stashed in my mini-fridge. It always takes me back. 10/10.

I had a small bottle of this when I was very young -- 7 years old. I remember it smelling much better than Baby Soft, which I also had a little bottle of. I badly wanted to like Baby Soft more, because it was pink, but Soft Jasmin was just so much better... What does it actually smell like? Jasmine, of course. When I opened this new bottle and tried it out I was a bit disappointed because I could've sworn I remembered a vanilla note or vanilla-like smell. After months of wearing this occasionally, I feel that there's actually a lot to be considered with this scent. It's deceptively simple. Yes, there's the Jasmine, which isn't super natural smelling...but then there's also this plastic-y artificial sweetness that I believe is what I mistook as vanilla back in 2007. And then there's a sort of ozonic quality as well. It smells very wet. Overall, Soft Jasmin errs towards artificiality, but you can definitely imagine that a real flower would smell like this. Longevity is definitely better than Baby Soft, but this is still quite fleeting, just as you'd expect it to be. Now we have to talk about the indoles. The indoles, the indoles, indoles! Yes, Soft Jasmin is indolic, and the indoles in here are quite appropriate for what Soft Jasmin is meant to be: a girl's first perfume during the last 30 years of the 20th century. The plastic ozonic type smell I mentioned earlier is how the indoles present themselves here. I don't know if I will repurchase this. I might save up for Mugler's Alien, which, to me, is like a grown-up version of Soft Jasmine. But who knows!

There was a love's jasmine scent back in the 70s and 80s one of my closest friends loved this one and it smelled wonderful on her. Love's had a whole line of cosmetic products and 4 or 5 fragrance scents including this one. The jasmine of course was the most prevelent note followed by the musk - my friend seemed to get more of floral blend than I did. This stayed closer to the skin and didn't last too long but was strong when first applied. I didn't wear this much and I only got one bottle way back when, in some kind of gift set along with some other love's scents and I think lip gloss or lip balm. I liked this one a lot but since my friend loved this so much, as well as a lot of other "jasmine" scents and I liked so many different scents including several other Love's fragrances I left her to this one. Even though I will wear scents now with Jasmine notes, when I first smell something jasmine prominent I think of her and our girlish adventures to the fragrance counters of our local shopping district.

Grabbed myself a bunch of these Dana's fragrances. Lemon, Jasmine, Rain Forest and this newer one that smells like Pink Sugar. It's in a red box. This is a nice soft fragrance just to wear around the house. I got them at a steal, so I'm not complaining or comparing. The only one I couldn't find, or I should say that was missing is Love's Baby Soft. I do remember loving that back in day, just for after a bath or something. I like it, and I have a ton of other more expensive and crazy insane expensive. But for the price, I just couldn't walk away. Very feminine. Very light.

I have the current version, can't speak for the vintage as I don't remember it, but this is okay. I occasionally wear it to bed to sleep. Powdery jasmine, soft musk. I don't find it overpowering. It *almost* has a vintage makeup/lipstick/crayon smell that I find comforting. It is cheap, yes, but that's part of its naïeve charm. Not my favorite by a long shot, but not bad when I want a soft scent to lull me into sleep (and I don't want to use my more expensive fragrances!).

I plan on getting a vintage bottle to try but I as of yet don't know what that smells like. As for "Dana" Soft Jasmin its nice and soft for sleepy time! I would likely not wear it out but it has something easy going and comfy about it. It's the funniest thing but I thought it was gross at first. I think I may have just used too much. It's light and easy to say "I can't smell it" than spritz more. It goes away fast but that's okay. I only use it at bedtime.

I once said I only wear Soft Jasmine to bed and wouldn't wear it out. I lied! It's hot and humid today and this is feeling pretty pleasant right now. Although it's more of a creamy jasmine than fresh it's so light and uplifting, great for cooling and calming hot skin. So if it's hot but you want something a little different than the usual fresh laundry musk or bright berry bomb body mist give this a try! It's very nice for the price.

Love's soft Jasmin was not released in the 2000's. It was released in the '70's. It is really a unique and hard to find scent here in Canada. Love's has just re-released it along with the Fresh lemon scent. It is so beautiful and I have been waiting for it to come back over 18 yrs now!!! I am a huge Love's baby soft fan and have almost all of teh scents and can honestly say this one is one of my top favorites :)

I had Love's Soft Jasmine (not musky jasmine) in the late 80's/early 90's as part of a set that came with Love's Baby Soft, Gentle Musk, Fresh Lemon, and Rain Scent. Fresh Lemon and Rain Scent were my favorites, followed by Gentle Musk and Soft Jasmine. The Soft Jasmine was so gentle and lovely. Very calming. I wish they would make this set again! Especially the Rain Scent, I would wear that as an adult!!

I believe this was one of my first fragrances when I was an early teen. That was late 70'/early 80's. I remember it being a nice scent. I preferred Love's Baby Soft to this though. It was still a nice scent and I loved the purple. Good memories.

I got this for Christmas as part of a Love's variety pack when I was about 12, and twenty-some years later, it's the only bottle I kept from the set. It's sweet, musky, and nostalgic.

I had this in the late 80's (middle school) I loved it the light jasmine,powderyish musky scent was so pretty!

I loved Baby Soft, so I was hopeful that this might be another bargain favorite. I was sadly disappointed after wearing this one. It has a very synthetic jasmine note to it that overpowers anything else in the fragrance. The other mentions of the alcohol being overpowering are accurate as well. It is very strong initially. When the alcohol wears off, you are left with chemical jasmine. I'd skip this one.

I got a bunch of MEM perfumes off of eBay in a bulk pack, and my aunt used to wear this exact fragrance when I was a kid. It personally smells terrible with my body chemistry though so I may give it to her, I get a straight animalic punch without any of the florals. It smells pretty strong as well, I would say stronger than Baby Soft.

I remember being given this as a little girl, it was only to be worn when going to church. If memory serves me well, I recall I thinking odor of synthetic jasmine was fancy.Now I know better.I suppose it's good for preventing little girls like smelling lile they've been running around but....meh.

Something about this is so undeniably "Love's"— something that Baby Soft, Rain Scent, Heart Throb, and Vanilla Pop have as well. My sister and I have been curious about this scent for nearly ten years now so I just recently ordered three of the non-spray splash Soft Jasmin fragrances from eBay. The packaging for the splash is so adorable and 1980s, I'd recommend it to any Love's collector or '80s lover! The jasmine is full, dreamy, and somewhat powdery. There is a subtle musk note... but it isn't strong, masculine, or irritating. I'm actually an anti-musk sort of person (both scent-wise and in other contexts as well) but this fragrance is so delicate that it supports the overall scent rather than weighing it down. The additional floral notes are soft and like that of honey without being sharply sweet. Something tells me that one of the supporting notes is a faint and pretty touch of lilac. The scent somehow feels just like its purple packaging. This is so perfectly 1980s (despite the description on this site saying this scent is from the 2000s... it is at least as young as 1988) and feels like the mature older sister of Baby Soft. I so wish that Love's Rain Scent could be added to this site as it is a favorite of mine and another classic 1980s teen/young women's perfume! Soft Jasmin reminds me of mystical 1980s movies and characters like Sarah from Labyrinth or Lady Amalthea from The Last Unicorn. It is so pretty and I loved the scent immediately. These are pretty cheap to pick up on eBay, and even cheaper if you opt for the splash rather than the spray (plus, when getting the splash, you'll likely get a cute box to go with it)! I got a trio of three 1oz splashes for only $9.68! I have used it four times so far, and each time, it has lasted over four or five hours. I recently put some on when I was asleep, and when I woke up, I could still smell it. I'll note here and now that I'm writing this based off one of the oldest formulas of the scent— I don't know if anything was changed or switched in mid-1990s onwards. Overall, a pleasantly lovely and soft scent with surprising longevity.

It’s true that Musky Jasmin was not the same as Soft Jasmin. Musky Jasmin was first (70s until mid-80s). And if you think you could mix plain musk and jasmine scents to get something similar, you’d be wrong (haha). I tried this many times over the years, and it just doesn’t work. I don’t think it smelled exactly like either musk or jasmine, it had a “freshness” about it. Soft Jasmin came later (late 80s) and was still good (but different) when it was under Mem/ Chattem. It had that 70s/ 80s Love’s DNA mixed with a soft floral/ slightly indolic jasmine. I just bought a bottle off of EBay and it’s bringing back memories. I really like it. The Musky Jasmin is very hard to find, and when it shows up on EBay or Etsy, it’s rather pricy. The Soft Jasmin by Mem can still be found at a reasonable price. Look for Mem on the back of the bottle. The Dana one smelled different and wasn’t nearly as good, but I’d still buy it if they ever made it again.

Love's Original Musky Jasmin Flower is NOT the same thing as Dana's Soft Jasmin. Dana' bought the rights to the product line in or around 1986 and reformulated most of the Love's line scents - to their detriment. Only Love's Musky Jasmin Flower by Menley & James and then, Chattem (which stuck REALLY close to the Menley & James fragrance formulation) are the true Love's Musky Jasmin scent of the early seventies through the early-mid eighties. (70's - mid-80's). When Dana procured the Love's lines, the reformulations were deplorable if you were used to the original formulations. If you have not used anything else other than the Dana versions, then you probably wouldn't be able to notice how Dana had degraded the original. That goes for Baby Soft as well.

the original name was LOVES MUSKY JASMIN FLOWER AND SMELLED DIVINE !!! I wore it in the mid 70's and it was my favorite along with Bonne Belle skin Musk now this was the era of musk but these 2 were quite lovely, feminine and fresh. original musky jasmin flower smelled so different than this new stuff which I tested years ago, around christmas. I was so hoping it would smell like it but NO! The closest thing I ever found to the original 70's version was Alfred Sung / SHA which was a special edition of his, it had the same lovely floral ethereal scent

The OG Love's Soft Jasmin was by MEM Company, INC, New Jersey. Dana came afterwards (bought MEM, I'm supposing) and these classics lost a lot in that transition. Also, to be clear, MEM Love's Soft Jasmin and MEM Love's Musky Jasmin are two different scents. You'll recognize the difference by the price. Musky Jasmin is considerably more expensive, when one can even find it. It was a sig scent for many of us as teenagers. and it was good! ;) Anyway, if you were in love with the entire Love's OG library of scents, look for MEM, *not* Dana.

I loved this scent back in the 80's. It was a strictly fresh Jasmine Fragrance. Identical to the flower itself. No other notes in this one, maybe a bit of musk in the drydown. I purchased Love's Jasmine last year for my daughter and I'm sadly disappointed. It smells no where near as wonderful as it did when I was a young girl. It has a cheap synthetic Jasmine floral scent to it. Nothing like how I remember it smelling back in the day. It's a yucky new re-formulation and I hate it!!!

I have to agree with another reviewer and say this smells just like Jasmine Tea ! It is a tad musky on me, but I mostly get a tea note. I really like this little bottle, nice summer scent for the pool if you don`t want to smell tropical or lemony.

I remember the 80s version being very indolic, but from the sound of it it doesn't seem to be the same formula. I didn't hate it, but I think I was too young to appreciate indoles in general.

I bought a bottle of this along with Fresh Lemon. It’s a soft jasmine as described although slightly synthetic. Idk what it smelled like originally but this version is not bad for $30 CDN

A little PSA for anyone interested: a certain fragrance sampling site (*cough* STC *cough*) has just added a plethora of retro fragrances, including the *original* Love's Musky Jasmin!

Remastered wonderfully! I still have my musky jasmine from long ago and they are not the same. Both are great jasmine scents, though.

This is not the same one as the 80's version...that was Musky Jasmine. This one is much less "musky".
