Navy for Men

Navy for Men is one of several "Dana Classic" minis in a gift set I gave to my fiancé. I also "borrow" it on occasion. Navy is a very clean and fresh scent, with a bracing feel from the sage and juniper and a nice burst of sweet citrus from the tangerine (a refreshingly unusual citrus choice for a men's cologne). There is a pleasant woodsy/musk/amber accord towards the drydown. Of course, I also smell a touch of the barbershop notes that are popular in these older scents, and which I enjoy very much. Longevity is excellent, and sillage is on the higher end of moderate. Navy could be suitable for office wear, but only if applied quite lightly!

It's just good. It's classic for a reason. It's lavender and juniper. Although calling the scent of lavender for men is as ridiculous as saying a rose is only for women. I grew up with this scent, but I haven't smelled it in years, and coming across it again, it's just as good as I remember. Just because you can purchase a fragrance at Walmart doesn't make it bad - or are we calling Versace bad now?

I was surprised by this one, in my opinion this fragrance is better than Nautica Voyage, it smells better, it does not have that harsh opening smell, the performance and longevity is far better than NV. I only ordered a 50ml to test it out and I will definitely purchase a 100ml bottle.

Minty, spicy, aquatic similar in opening to Polo Sport. Drydown is a bit cheap and sour smelling, but overall not nearly as bad as reviews here might lead you to believe.

First initial wearing: I originaly got this scent because I remember a time back in the day when a friend of mine used to always be remembered as the guy that smelled good and this was the fragrance he always wore surprisingly. So now that I have a big collection and my nose expanded I decided to give this 1 a shot(Just for the sake of reminiscing of my youth if nothing else) So on the initial spray it has that cheap synthetic drug store cologne smell with a big blast of alcohol, and sharp citruses,spices and lavender in the background. At first I was even a little bit scared that I got a bad bottle because it not that pleasant smell at all that I remember when I was 16.lol... In the mid (About 5 mins into the life of the frag)it starts to get a little nicer though as it starts to develop into a fresh, spicy clean laundry detergent smell thats also pretty musky. Now is what im starting to remember it smelling like.... At this stage though it still has a little bit of mustiness thats still off putting. The drydown(About 1 hr in) is when this is nice as the pleasant notes you smell in the mid come through and that unpleasant muskyness fades and is replaced by some surprisingly nice woodsy notes that round this fragrance out. Warning: I just got this fragrance and im glad i decided to test this fragrance at my house before wearing it out because I can see the first 1hr-1hr and a half choking people out as this is very loud and a little unpleasant even with 3 sprays. HAHA, I remember my friend used to douse himself in this stuff and its a wonder he never killed anyone with this stuff because its quite potent. But back on subject: This drydown is well worth it and is a very deep,somewhat aquatic,spicy,woodsy fragrance that surprised me on how good it turns out concidering how bad it smelled for that first hour and goes from a musty scent to a deep,smooth clean scent. Performance on this is top notch and honestly as far as performance ranks in the top 5 of my whole collection(And thats out of 70 bottles).It projects like a beast for 2 hours and you will smell this all day. It lasts on me anywhere from 12-16 hours. Overall id rate this a 7 out of 10 ! I should rate this lower but being that the scent is really pleasant after an hour and projects great,lasts all day and is REALLY cheap I have to bump up the score SIDENOTE: This smells good on skin but smells even better on clothes.(When you spray it on clothes it doesnt bring out that unpleasant mustiness) And it also smells better when mixed with sweat and hot weather :D Also to me this smells like a muskier mix between Polo Blue and Polo Sport

I was expecting something cheap and nasty when I opened this in a bargain basement store, since it was priced at $1.00 for a half ounce cologne splash, and was pleasantly surprised. Let me begin by saying this is no designer fragrance and I'm not gonna blow smoke up anyone's shirt and say it is; but for what it costs and what it is, it ain't half-bad... This begins pretty common with sweet fruity notes and some spices, that smell 'cologne-y'(in a clean way). After it mellows some, it's mint and lavender are quite pleasing and smooth, even fresh. In a couple of hours when it's completely dry, the woods and amber are nice in an aromatic earthy way. This is a true drugstore-type frag but it is not unpleasant, common:yes, but not bad. I've smelled worse that costed a lot more... Sillage: okay Longevity: average Overall: 2.25/5 This one is no stunner to be sure but there is something about it that I enjoy. It's clean, fresh with a hint of spice and a sweet woody finish; nothing I would wear to impress someone or special occasion but for just sitting around by myself it's something simple and unassuming. Clean from the shower and about to jump right into bed, it's a nice scent to smell as you fall asleep but does not linger on the skin and interfere with the next day's choice of fragrance. Anyone who judges a scent on the company who made it and not the actual 'juice' is no perfumista in my opinion...give this a chance. I have perfumes that were great buys and smell wonderful and expensive ones that smell so-so. You never know until you TRY. By the way-the bottle is similar to Horizon by G.LaRouche but this is not similar at all...

I HATED this fragrance when I first tried it....it reminded me of brown sugar and cat pee (sorry to be crude). However, there was something intriguing about the woody base that kept bringing me back. I have come to the conclusion that I must have received old stock the first time around (open box clearance). I bought a new one, and the tangerine and mint shine....of course there's the lovely woody base. I like it as a daily wear....a little distinctive but no head turner, and a pleasant fragrance. Nice stuff (if you get a fresh bottle).

Vintage original small mini. Smells GREAT. Better than a lot of new things I've tried. They must have changed something in the bottles you guys got, because mine smells great right from the opening. Of course, mine is 20+ years old and that may have some kind of effect. But this is a very pleasing scent all the way through. Moderate everything on me. I'm enjoying it so much right now, I'm going to buy a new bottle and revisit this "review" in the future.

I picked up a bottle of this for work once. While sillage is close to the skin, the longevity was nice and it gave a cheap but clean, crisp, and simple smell that lasted several hours. I actually enjoyed the scent a lot and would definitely purchase another bottle. It is fragrances like these that are perfect to throw in the mix and add some variety.

I have the Noxell and the New Dana. I prefer the older but don't see a huge difference between them. Noxell is subtler and deeper, New Dana is more generically bright bluish and develops that disappointing candy-like effect as it dries. Even though most people won't discern much if any difference if they catch a whiff of them, the older version is superior.

Worst blind buy EVER! The opening has this strong piercing synthetic chemical dye type of smell that goes straight to my head. Do not immediately put your nose on it! I can't layer it with anything that will save it from itself. I got an open-box bottle, and I am just hoping that something happened to it along the way, because no one could make a fragrance this bad.

I got this last Christmas in a set that had some other colognes with it. I can't stand it at all, smells very cheap.

this is a 100% cheap drugstore standard, low class, bad smelling fragance

I found this recently at a "dollar store" so you know it wasn't purchased for the low cost it would cost in it's noraml drugstore environment. I enjoy a number of inexpensive Dana (English Leather, Canoe, British Sterling) offerings so to spent $3.99 for two 1 1/2 oz bottles in a gift set wasn't much of a risk. The blue bottle is atractive and due to that and the name I was expecting a typical cheap aquatic type scent. I was actually quite surprised. It has a spicey, herbal, slightly sour/sweet musky tone to it, not so aquatic and I like it. It is something like a distant cousin of Nautica. this low cost frag has a surprising longevity and a medium range siliage. No nasty "cat pee" or "laundry detergent" smell. Navy is not sophisticated or special but a nice addition to the rotation of a guy who enjoys wearing a variety of drugstore and old fashioned scents. Not for the crowd who bases scent enjoyment on price. An update, three years plus later: Meh... not bad but also not so good. I have so many fragrances that I didn't have space for this one, a fragrance that I really never would wear very often. I still enjoy classic old school barbershop fragrances but Navy is so meh, so it's gone.

Laundry-grade lavender/citrus/musk, with absolutely no complexity or nuance to its construction. It's easy to crap all over something like Navy and say it's a complete waste of money, but I'd use a bit of caution with that sentiment. If you're a cash-strapped 20-something guy who lives on $30 a week, relies on the college cafeteria for his meals, never irons his clothes, and uses those little Tide peelers dispensed by the washing machines for his laundry, you're going to want to achieve at least the basic effect of "I'm clean." Extending the lifespan of your detergent and fabric softener is what Navy for Men does and does very well. It will imbue your shirts with a fresh-powdery steam-cleaned smell that will certainly not smell like any particular cologne to your peers, but at least will emit a basic clean-cotton freshness that suggests you care. And dollar-wise, Navy is a greater value than $5 Axe body sprays. Better this than nothing at all.

Review of Noxell vintage (original nineties formula): While the reformulation smells like a high quality fabric softener, the Noxell formula has more body and heft, not to mention higher quality materials and note fidelity. Navy isn't complicated -- it's essentially a riff on Polo Sport, with a touch of sweetly fresh citrus and geranium, followed by juniper berry, loads and loads of juniper berry. There's an overarching dihydromyrcenol "gummy" nineties freshness, reminiscent of junior high locker rooms, if you're old enough to remember that era. This is the smell of your neighbor's house when you went over to play video games with their kid on a rainy day. Fresh, clean, crisp, a little loud, a bit sweet and ambery, clearly synthetic yet compellingly dimensional and well made. Still some bottles on eBay, for those who pine for simpler days.

The formulation I obtained about 10 years ago reminded me of the spic and span powder cleaner from when I was a child. The older, Noxell formulation possesses a similar quality, but it is toned down significantly. The lavender is strong in this formulation, and it definitely comes across as having a "blue" quality. It is simple but definitely would smell good for those looking for what might be the original blue/oceanic masculine fragrance. So, unless you like that powder cleaner quality, I would say look for the older formulation on eBay.

Just tried this for the first time today. Upon initial application it's just a strong alchohol / laundry detergent smell. As time passed within the hour the sillage mellowed but the scent really didn't improve much.... Verdict :Although i'm absolutely open to less expensive fragrances ( I like most of Tim Mcgraw's colognes and some Avon and Jovan scents as well).... I just didn't like this one at all.

Another cheap hidden gem. I get a lot of lavender, water lily, and tangerine with a herbal sage and leather. Does have that 90’s freshie vibe, looks and smells similar to Horizon by Guy Laroche. This is less green, more lavender and fresh forward. I must have a good bottle, I don’t get the strong alcohol scent the other reviewers have mentioned.

I have had Navy for about a year and have grown to really like it. The first 45min to an hour is a little rough, but I agree with @Ryanmmas26 that the dry down is well worth it. Navy is nice to wear when you want to spray on something a little different. Longevity on me is about 8-10hrs with a couple sprays on my neck and one on my shirt.
