Navy

A “not bad at all” cheapie that gets exponentially better with continued exposure, providing you enjoy powder and orange blossom, two of my favorite things. I can’t believe how inexpensive this is. I felt no need to secure a life vest, as there's nothing aquatic about this. In fact, it's quite powdery. Navy is a traditional oriental with orange blossom, soft spices, a whisper of vanilla, and a solid amber base. An inexpensive gem, to my nose. Yeah, it's a retro vintage revival scent (if that's a thing), but I like the classic feel it pulls off; especially during the dry down, which is powdery amber class at a bottom shelf price. The very first spray unsettles a bit, but quickly turns to a shower of heavenly, old-school eau de cologne style orange blossom/neroli that I wish would stick around for awhie. Lasts 5+ hours on me, the last three as a skin scent, but I don't mind low sillage for this price point. Like her sister Tabu, it’s labeled a cologne spray but performs more like an EDP. UPDATE: The more I wear this the more I love this. Great for my fellow orange blossom and amber fans. A charming, inexpensive fragrance with surprising longevity. It has become a staple. UPDATE II: I won a bid on a teeny little vintage parfum concentration and cologne spray recently. My set is circa 1992, manufactured by Cover Girl/Noxell. I enjoy this fragrance so much, I wanted to see if I’m missing something from the Dana reformulation. The cologne spray has spoiled, I’m afraid—nothing good came from that bottle. The teeny tiny parfum, however, is still intact. It is a bit richer, a bit sweeter, a bit more complex, but still fairly similar to the current juice. The distinction I detect is similar enough—given the formulation differences—for me to say that the current Dana formula is quite true to the original.

So...I wore Navy the other day. I almost talked myself out of making it my SOTD but decided to commit to it. I just don't wear it much. I showered, got dressed and we went out to do our errands. It was a nice warm day and I was well rested and energetic. It seemed like people were more smiling, more helpful, you know what I mean! Good vibes in general. I kept getting whiffs of the Navy I was wearing although I didn't drown in it. Mine is a small splash on bottle. It is an approachable fragrance and feels friendly. Hidden gem territory, I'd say. I can't speak to whether it smells like Boucheron because I don't ever remember wearing Boucheron in the past. Navy was never a perfume in my rotation either but years ago there was a young woman whom I had hired to work in my department and she wore Navy. I didn't know what perfume it was so I asked and she told me "Navy." It really suited her because she was so likeable and so approachable. She was never grumpy and had a very funny sense of humor. We became friends outside of work as well. She was someone you loved being around, someone with a positive outlook about life. That is what Navy is like, buoyant and fresh and in today's fragrance offerings, unexpected. It is floral but it has that spice to it and best of all you don't smell it everywhere! Strangers lean in a little and they get a whiff of this pretty fragrance when you pass by and a peaceful calm falls all around. Hidden gem indeed.

Always a reason why some scents stick around and that's because they just smell good and Dana's Navy just does. It has staying power, and a little spritz goes a long way. It's inexpensive, and its scent will remind you of a musky, patchouli, amber with a hint of vanilla essence in the background. I compare it to the daytime version of Tabu, or the good girl version of Tabu if there is such a creature. Navy is just a nice scent that isn't overbearing. In its initial spray, there is some peachiness, followed by a hint of rose. These notes dissipate rather quickly. It's the drydown that I love. Once the basenotes appear, the muskiness definitely stays with the musk, the vanilla and a slight scent of cinnamon begin to intermingle. It's a very wholesome type of scent. The scent has staying power to last all day, which is wonderful for an inexpensive product. If you enjoy an oriental perfume, try Navy. You just might be surprised. It packs a lot in its scent that keeps circling around the base notes in a pleasant surprise all day long. An old favorite that I'll just keep handy for when I want to feel good about myself. It bears repeating that Navy is not so much a watered-down version of Tabu, but it is a less sultry version of it. If Tabu is your night perfume, then Navy would be the one you'd reach for during the day.

I've overlooked this fragrance my whole life, for two main reasons. One, it's embarrassingly inexpensive. And two, I loathe anything watery or aquatic, which I associated with a name like Navy. What a mistake. I've learned, in the last few years, that price doesn't necessarily equate quality. And Navy is a quality fragrance. For a cologne strength, the longevity is impressive. I get a good 8 hours, although for the last several it's mostly a skin scent. And there's nothing ocean-y or aquatic about Navy either. It opens predominantly as a white floral; specifically the orange blossom is most noticeable to me. But within a few minutes, the most odd yet wonderful pastry note appears; I know that sounds weird but I don't know how else to describe it. Like a delicious French toast sprinkled with cinnamon. But I don't want to overemphasize the effect as Navy is not really a gourmand; it has just the right amount of sweetness. After a few hours, it becomes a lovely skin scent, and settles into it's Oriental base of amber, vanilla, and just a hint of spicy cinnamon remaining. I've been wearing this one every day for several days now, and I can't get enough. It's like I actually crave it. Lesson learned: always keep an open mind, especially when it comes to fragrance!

Such an interesting name for this fragrance. As a young girl, I thought Navy would smell some what aquatic, like the ocean, sunshine... you know. Instead, it's more like you joined the Navy and docked in the orient right near a spice market. It's delicious and feminine and soft. I get star anise out of this myself but it's not an ingredient. Maybe it's just the effect of mixing the musk with the cinnamon and vanilla. Upon first spray I don't get really any green notes but that lovely clean and warm peach caress that smiles as she passes on to reveal those well balanced florals in the heart. Jasmine, Ylang-ylang and Rose make a powdery dance around the orange blossom that keeps them from being too floral and then the whole base asserts itself and starts the cycle again. And through it all, cinnamon and vanilla keep you grounded. No sea legs needed at this port! Navy is a great drugstore cologne, great for cooler weather or fresh spring days - very comforting. She'll get you through the night if you need her to but she's a day time girl. However, that sailor you just picked up might not give you time to change. ;^) Editing to say that I have the cologne.

This became my Mom's favorite scent after Avon discontinued Soft Musk. We were in the store and she tried on Navy and fell in love with the light ambery quality, plus she really loved the bottle. So, I bought her some for Mother's Day. It was a fairly long-lasting fragrance with a heavy sillage. Mom was not into the really heavy gourmand scents and male colognes that I used, but she also did not care for the light florals/citrusy scents that the other ladies inour family favored. Navy was sort of a "middle ground". Update Jan. 2017: I just purchased a bottle for myself (part of a Dana gift set, on post-Christmas clearance sale). I LOVE Navy now, even though, when Mom wore it, I found it OK on me but not exciting. The cinnamon seems more intense now that I am a little older. It's a warm fragrance, sexy but not overtly so, hence suitable for daytime or work (when applied quite lightly).

Navy was first released in 1990 by Cover Girl, which is a brand owned by the Noxell Corporation, which is a subsidiary of Coty. It was later purchased by Dana. So if you are looking for vintage, look for Cover Girl/Noxell. My vintage purse spray has a sticker that says Noxell Corp. Navy has been one of my favorite fragrances since the 1990's and I always get compliments on it. Others have described it as aquatic, floral, and musky, but I don't get any of that. As Radchick wrote, Navy has been misnamed. This is a warm, spicy oriental. The opening blast is fresh and clean, green, and citrusy, with a hint of peach. My clothes tend to hold those fresher notes but on my skin, Navy is all warm, powdery amber, vanilla, and cinnamon. Navy has an elegant, clean smell that can be worn day or night all year long, but I like its warmth best on cooler days.

As a 46 year old this fragrance is a trip down memory lane. I used to use this in high school, probably because it was usually free with purchase of noxema or CoverGirl products. Very pleasant and powdery, and works well with my body, as it didn't even sour on a 100 degree day. I am testing a vintage EDP and will keep it in rotation. I am interested to try the modern EDC to see how it compares. I think a person could wear this year round, but because it is not spicy on me, I don't think it would fit for fall, and it is not floral enough for spring. I first sprayed this in the room, then on the top of my hand on the hottest day of the year, then on my body after a shower at bedtime. It is still pleasant nearly 10 hours later.

An elegant lady I worked with wore this and I loved it on her back then. So what the heck, I bought it today and it was under 5 bucks!!!! (Cologne version) I can see why this thing is still here! Vanilla is the first thing I smell, and now it is ambery and soft and powdery. Yummyyyy!!!! Now I gotta try the eau de parfum version. Dana is surprising me right now! And by the way I bought a trial version of this (from a deep discount store) a while back in a 5 piece variety set. It must've been compromised somehow for I did not care for any of the ones in the set but this one is absolutely wonderful! I am so so so glad I decided to try it again!!!!!!

I am another one who got the two tissit bottle package at walmart for seven bucks. I for one usually like to try perfumes that aren't associated with people my age (23) and navy seemed to be one of those perfumes. I sprayed it and absolutely fell in love with it. I do get the powdery notes which I love and I've actually been complimented by other girls my age as well! LOL The best thing is that it lasts all day on me, it's inoffensive and it's super cheap, I just got a gift set with two one ounce bottles and a body lotion for just nine bucks...can't beat that! Love this one and will be wearing it all winter long! :)

I remember wearing this back in the early and mid 90s in cool/cold weather. I loved it! It's an excellent amber drugstore fragrance. I don't remember if I had the EDT or EDP, but it was probably the EDP. It lasted very well on my dry, perfume eating skin. Why did I stop using it? I fell in love with Tuscany Per Donna and Lolita Lempicka for cool/cold weather. But I would definitely recommend it if you like amber fragrances, and you're on a strict budget. It's suitable for office wear if you don't overspray. But I wouldn't wear it on an airplane or to a medical office; it can be a little strong for that.

I love this musky, vanilla-y scent so much! I smelled it first in the summer and loved it so I bought a bottle for cheap at walmart. But when I tried it on I didn't really like the way my chemistry mixed with it so I put it deep in my perfume wardrobe. This winter I decided to try this again and OMG this is wonderful for winter! I don't know if my chemistry changes for the seasons but I love it now,it's very powdery-musky and every time I wear it to work a guy always says, "You're wearing that powder smell!" BTW I'm 26 years old so to me this is NOT an OL fragrance (to me there is no such thing :))

A surprisingly nice, super affordable perfume! Navy begins with a burst of fresh green florals and sweet fruity notes before revealing a deeper, cinnamon sugar-coated peach and amber. White florals add a pleasing contrast to the heavier base notes, creating a fragrance that's all at once feminine, cozy, and sensual. I definitely detect orange blossom which adds a bit of soapiness that could be interpreted as too sharp, but I personally enjoy it. The name "Navy" does not fit the scent at all - it is not aquatic in the least! Worth a try, as it's readily available online and cheap as can be.

This is a great cheap perfume. As others have described. Amber, spice, powdery, very soft but only a hint of vanilla drydown. Not sweet and cloying. Very classy for the price. An oriental type that you could wear to the office as it is not a spice bomb. I got a tiny sample pack of dana mini bottles for a gift which is how I got exposed to this and have purchased a large bottle available at the local drugstores. A nice Perfume brand you can actually walk into a store and purchase is always a bonus. I would say this would be good for any age and could definitely be unisex.

A few years ago, I was able to get the Cover Girl pure perfume spray. Wow, what a treat! It is musky, amber, oriental, and somehow appropriate to any time, place or event. This is one I choose when I want to be flawlessly classic and at the same time 100% sure my fragrance will please everyone. I did try the Dana version, which of course could not compare the the pure perfume, but it is nice too. I bought the lotion from Dana to go with it, and it is great. (Perfume version by CoverGirl:) longevity: 10/10 sillage: 9/10 overall: 9/10

This is exquisite. A softer floriental than the notes would have you believe. Navy is under-appreciated and would be lauded if it came from a high end fragrance house, in a beautiful bottle, and a ridiculously price. Instead, it has a fugly bottle and sells for less than a pizza. And what's with the name Dana? There isn't an aquatic note in Navy! Do yourself, and your waistline a favour. Forego a piece of pizza, and pick up a bottle of Navy. Just decant the juice into something pretty and send the bottle to recycling.

Navy is such a gorgeous fragrance. It's a warm, rich, fruity floral. It's noticeable to others, but not overpowering. All day long, I catch these wonderful little whiffs of it, and think, "Damn, I smell good!" :) Seriously, though...this would be a great buy at any price, and it just so happens it's available for a steal. Who remembers the old ads in Teen magazine with Niki Taylor?...."You Always Feel Perfect In Navy". YES. Any season, any time of day, any occasion. You can't go wrong with this.

I have such a soft spot in my heart for this one. It seems like there is just the right amount of vanilla (not too much) to poke through the floral and make Navy into something that smells like no other fragrance. It reminds me of high school formals and a very dear friend of my mother. I haven't smelled the newer version, but I recently stumbled across a travel size bottle at a flea market for $1 and thought "why not?" Still lovely and well-rounded.

This is such a nice fragrance for the price. I love the sophisticated & classic scent of this inexpensive floriental. It is very strong amber & jasmine for me, a little musk & vanilla with the other notes. I've worn it off & on through the years & I always get compliments on it. Men seem to really like this one. For any season or occasion. Good sillage & lasts all day & into the night for me! What a value!

My first perfume back in 1994. I was 11. It came as a freebie in a box of Always pads along with a little booklet about weathering puberty 😂 I haven't come across it since the 90s but I recall thinking it was very chic. I'd throw good cash in on a bottle today. The name is a misnomer - this isnt aquatic at all. Edit: Does this remind anyone of the old Caress soap bars? I feel like they were similar...

Phantomias I've seen that too with some fragrances. Near full bottles. Navy really is a pretty scent, but I forget I have it. One way I've revisited some of my collection is to decant a few into "pretty" atomizers. My Navy EDT is in a splash-on bottle so it was easy. It changes how you view them (for me it does.) Bottles and packaging are more important than people realize.

I remember the ads for navy when it first came out. They were very sophisticated and glamorous in high eighties style. Years later I still love the rich, warm, cinnamon notes in this fragrance. The dry down is lush and comforting. It reminds me of the fall with essences of clove and spice an elegant choice for day or night.

Gorgeous drugstore cheapie! I had a co-worker who wore this back in the 90's and it smelled wonderful on her. I'm so glad to finally have a bottle of my own. I love the combination of ylang ylang and amber. So warm, sunny, and golden. And the cinnamon gives it a nice little kick. :)

Testing a mini Noxell, believe a perfume as oily on application. If anyone knows Ajee, this is similar. Coniferous aromatic spices, warm sweet benzoin like envelope, amber vanilla. Florals underneath carnation and rose perhaps and notes of powder. Fades quite quickly but nice.

Find a bottle of the parfum (gold cap) if you can. It's still Navy, but a much more nuanced dive into the scent profile, especially those delicate upper notes. If you don't agree that it's similar to LouLou, I encourage you to switch to the parfum and try it again!

Ahh Navy :) She reminds me of being 14, that's how long it's been in my collection. I still have a full 50ml bottle my brother gave to me in 1999 or 2000 that was part of a set. Still smells Amazing!!!! I have not smelled the newer version.

also from the dana website notes are different than on here...and they kinda make more sense: Top Notes: Orange Blossom, Neroli...Mid Notes: Gardenia, Jasmine, Heliotrope Base Notes: Cinnamon, Amber, Musk

Weak, weak weakest. Really when i spray i love the smell powdery it mostly is. After 10 seconds poef gone with the wind. So that's is one time only for me. 😞

My grandmother gave me this, so not only does it remind me of her, but it is another of my favorite scents and I am picky!

this is a very well blended perfume...its like an ambery cinnamon powder but soo smooth !

I wore this in high school, about 25 years ago (yikes!). I bought a sample pack of Dana fragrances over the holidays, and finally got around to wearing Navy today. I expected to greet her like an old friend, as I do remember what it smelled like to me—the amber, the spices, the rich and almost masculine smell that was so NOT like it’s nautical name implied. Instead, the smell that greeted me was as though someone had slapped a urine-soaked diaper in my face. I have read of other people having this experience with some fragrances, but was totally unprepared for the smell—especially from something I thought I knew! I do recall the initial notes of the Navy I knew being a bit bitter and chemically, having to soften a bit—but this was ridiculous. I was panicked, lest someone think I’d peed myself! But, I kept it on my wrist, curious to see what might happen with time. 30 minutes later, there is a powderiness coming out (so, now I have a really authentic diaper smell!), but not much else. By about the hour mark, it’s just powder. Whew! I’m relieved to no longer smell incontinent! It’s a lightly floral powder with some of that soft, roundness that I think comes only from amber—but it’s not a deep, robust amber. 3 hours after application, it’s simply a powdery floral. Had someone spritzed this on me unaware, I would never have guessed this is the Navy of my adolescence. I recalled spice, and almost a bergamot vibe that I’m simply not getting. Ellen Tracy’s Bronze is what I remember Navy smelling like—bright, spicy and bold. Smelling this, I can certainly understand how it is compared to Lutece—the gentle, powdery floweriness is certainly similar. Since I have both of those, and Navy seems to float generically in the middle, I think I’ll be swapping my bottle. Longevity seems to be diminished as well (it used to hold up to an 8 hours school day easily). I guess it’s true....you can never go back....

I hadn't thought of Navy in so many years and then recently I saw a bottle of it really cheap on ebay. I decided to buy the little bottle to see if I still like it as much as I did as a teenager. I remember loving perfume as a teen, and I was able to have a decent collection even then. In addition to babysitting money, I "worked" for my local Avon lady delivering orders and catalogs for more perfume money. Sometimes I got paid in Avon product - I think I had all of their fragrances at the time. I remember I had Peals & Lace, Fifth Avenue, Pavi Elle, Soft Musk, Candid, Timeless, Odyssey, and many more. I remember buying Navy and liking it, but my Dad hated it and said it was too strong, so I would only use it when I was at school or if he was traveling for work. Anyway, I have found that I LOVE this little gem a lot more than I did as a teen. Perhaps my grown-up chemistry is different or maybe the scent has been reformulated....I don't know. I noticed something else as well. I knew it reminded me of another fragrance when I first put it on. Please feel free to disagree, and know that I'm not saying these are a match, but there is something in this well blended bargain scent that reminds me of Estee Lauder's Knowing. Anyone else notice that? As I said, it could just be me. But I'm glad I'm a grown woman in my own house so I can spray as much of this beauty on as I like without worrying about my Dad's sensitive sniffer. I think I'm going to look for some more of my old non-Avon frags to see if I love them as much as I love this one. I would highly recommend this fragrance to a woman who isn't looking for a fragrance that is too sweet or too floral. On me it is spicy, warm, and wonderful!

Yo Fragrantica, this is another classic scent that now needs multiple pages for the classic vintage bottles and the new Dana version. They are not even similar anymore. The classic version was a lovely vanilla/amber scent with an initial burst of peach. It was a really nice Boucheron-esque perfume teens like me could afford. I have so many great memories of sharing my cousin Renee's bottles by CoverGirl. This new Dana version though... Top Notes: Orange Blossom, Neroli Mid Notes: Gardenia, Jasmine, Heliotrope Base Notes: Cinnamon, Amber, Musk Not listed are the OVERWHELMING vanilla and sugar in this new version. It doesn't even smell similar to classic Navy. It basically smells like a cinnamon bun with a light orange glaze. It smells more like something you'd pick up at Bath and Body Works. (Specifically Iced Cinnamon Rolls, the annual Christmas scent.) It's not bad, per se, it's just entirely different. So, this new version is a nice, sweet daytime scent. It doesn't last very long, so you'll have to take the bottle with you to reapply if you're gonna be gone for more than an hour or two. Like I said, it's not bad, just vastly different. If you're looking for a blast from your past you're going to have to pony up for a vintage Cover Girl bottle. Guess that's just the way it is now. (Mini edit. I spent some time fiddling with scents and if you don't mind layering you can get this to near what it used to be be by adding some Charlie Blue and Exclamation. The Charlie cuts through some of the sugar scent and Exclamation adds the missing peach and increases the white musk a bit. All together they're extremely nice, though all very short lived. You will be reapplying every few hours.)

let me preface the review by saying that i smelled it when it first came out in a magazine strip and thought it smelled amazing. At the time(i was in high school) i already fallen in love with my HG, Samsara and i thought this scent was definately in the same category. I never purchased it until the other day when i kept seeing it at Walmart for bargain price of $7(two little bottles of cologne). I figured if i didn't like it, seven bucks is not a big deal at first smell(in the bottle), i wasn't impressed-smelled a bit old and dated to me. I decided to give it a go on my wrist and ahh...there we go, the scent that brought me back to 1991. Warm vanilla ambery goodness. I really don't get anything "powdery" like lot of reviewers claim. I generally dislike powdery frags and there is no powder there. I don't get peach and greens at all-jasmine with ylang-ylang predominate, with amber on the drydown. Very warm rich sweet scent. If you like fruity or fresh light frags, this is definately not for you-but if you appreciate richer orientals, you will love this, just like i did. Tiny spritz on my wrist lasted for at least 5-6 hours and we are talking eau de cologne here, not even edt. That's some lasting power, amazing! I miss the times when the fragrances actually lasted as opposed to modern scents that you have to layer to make it last. This is sexy, rich scent, perfect for night out or cold weather. Alas, i live in the tropics but i still intend to wear it, just use a light hand. Will definately repurchase! P.S. Why is this called Navy, I have no idea-there is nothing "Navy" about it, since this is rich heady oriental

When i was a kid I really hated this scent. It seemed heavy and gave me a killer headache but today i picked up a small bottle from the drug store and it came with some lotion as well.....I don't know but I kind like this scent now..its growing on me more and more as i smell the part of my wrist where i sprayed it. I'm not sure if the formula has changed but i remember a heavy and almost sour smell but now I'm not getting that...? I get a warm spicy scent that drys to a spicy powder sweetness. Its definitely a grown up scent and NOT for little girls like i was when i hated it so this may explain how i like this now. It does smell more expensive than what its being sold for and totally has 90's written all over it but I love getting a blast from the past by smells and fashion. It excites me. I still remember the ads in my sisters Cosmopolitans and Glamour mags and I soooo wanted to like this...I'm happy i finally can.I just needed to grow up a bit :) I would wear this only in the Winter and maybe Fall and at night time. To me this perfume should be used in tiny doses and NOT be worn in the work place just in case you work with "perfume sensitive" people. Small doses Ladies!!! Small doses!! :P

I remember being at a tavern a few years back and this girl smelled awesome. I don't make a habit of going up to strangers to ask them what scent they are wearing but I had to ask this lady what perfume she had on. It was Navy! Fast forward to a few months ago, I saw a discounted gift set with Navy in it and, thinking back to that night in the tavern, bought it. I tried it first chance I got. It didn't smell as good on me as it did on that woman but I KNEW right away it smelled familiar...it's like the perfume was saying "POW! Don't you remember me? We used to be so close!"...I just couldn't put my finger on it until my 10 year old son asked me why I smelled like Play-Doh! PLAY-DOH! That's it! That is what Navy smelled like on my skin! LOL! Not a bad smell but it obviously isn't SUPPOSED to smell like Play-Doh. As much as it pained me I had to chalk Navy down as another perfume that doesn't play well with my body chemistry.

There must have been millions of these little Navy bottles made, just about every vintage perfume collection contains one. Which indicates that few people actually use the scent, and that's a real shame because Navy has a lot to offer. It's dead cheap and easily obtained. It's also far better than its drugstore origin would lead one to believe. Navy is soft, warm and comforting. The women's version would work just as well for men, the scent is unisex (there is a mens version available). Navy's been around for a while, I remember when it debuted. Today I tested a vintage and a more recent bottle, too. The vintage has more of a vanilla note and is smoother and softer than the recent version. The peach note is also stronger in the vintage. Navy is definitely worth the little money it costs. Sillage and lasting power are average, Navy is a fine scent for work and play.

i like this a LOT more than i expected to. i got this one quite a while ago, i think last summer, and i have been wearing it semi-regularly since. i think it shines in all seasons. on my skin, it is so sweet and creamy and warm, but not gourmand sweet. this is not gourmand... though if you aren't a gourmand lover like me, who has a lot of experience with VERY sweet scents, then you might mistake Navy for one. it's almost sunscreen-like, but it's slight. it does evoke its marketing images of late 80s/early 90s tropical getaways. it lasts pretty well (i am an oversprayer though) too. and it's very affordable. i highly recommend this if you like sweet scents but are looking into vintage/want to get out of your comfort zone. i've seen other reviewers say it's a lot different now, but i can't confirm that 😅 whatever i have, i really enjoy!

Ahhh! I so had this in high school in the 1990's (and from the reviews, I'm not alone in this!). It's funny to go back and read the fragrance notes for this scent that I really did like (almost against my will, it was so musky, woody and almost masculine)--and to recognize those notes as the ones that work the best on me now. I'm all over amber, spices and warm fragrances; I really wanted the light florals to work on me, so I was kind of in denial about how well this perfume worked, but now I've come to terms with my chemistry. It was a heavy fragrance, especially for me in my teens, but it was pretty and sophisticated. I remember having a little tiny bottle and splurging on a bigger one. I'm tempted to go buy this again--but I'm not sure I can handle the trip down memory lane!

Reviewing the modern version you can get at Walgreens today. Musky, vanilla, ambery baby powder with a touch of dry spices and jasmine for good measure. I usually hate baby powder fragrances, and I don't exactly love this fragrance either as the strong presence of that powdery white floral feeling is its main fault for me and the primary reason it smells dated. If that was stripped away, it would be a very sensual, cozy, modern scent. As it is, it smells very much of its time, but at least it's not as much of an assault of dozens of floral notes as most ambers/orientals of this era are. Navy does what it does well, if you can manage to separate the "baby powder" notes of this otherwise warm and sensual fragrance from diapers and children (and I really can't).

Loved to smell the magazine strips of this when I was a kid but I never bought it due to having access to department store perfume counter samples and minis of higher end perfumes. Since the price is currently so good, I recently bought two 1 oz bottles for $9.99 a set for nostalgia's sake. Wow, this is a very good, rich, well balance, non-sickly, floriental! It doesn't have the bite and edge of some of the super strong oakmoss beauties or any weird animalic or body secretion notes but it's not a weak watered down perfume. A delight to wear occasionally for a change from the fruity florals, incenses, gourmands, aquatics, citruses. Love that I rediscovered this, I am getting so many perfumes for nostalgia's sake like Giorgio, Red, Eternity and now Navy.

This is a recollection from wearing the version from 1994 as a 13 year old girl. I bought this perfume after seeing the ads for a few years. I finally bought it that year, but it smelled more adequate for a youngish mom/careerwoman. I realized later that it was most heavily promoted in the early 90s in which heavy, cosmetic, balsamic, floral perfumes were the only feminine marketed scent profiles outside of musks and baby scents. By 1994, Calvin Klein scents and other lighter, fresher, more natural smelling perfumes were far more fashionable. I also stopped wearing it because it would temporarily stain my neck yellow where I spritzed it on liberally, and left it to air dry. For years, that scared me off using most yellow liquid perfumes.

I am wear testing the VINTAGE version by Noxell-Hunt Valley, MD early 90’s before the formula was sold to Dana and ruined. Dana successfully stripped it of all the goodies that made Navy a wonderful cologne. It’s very similar to my Boucheron by Boucheron. Peachy, floral, Amber type fragrance. The vintage Navy cologne is substantially bold even though it’s only a cologne. Impressive even. Super versatile fragrance is virtually safe for every season or occasion. Duration: 4-6 hours Sillage: more than arms length If NAVY was a fave of yours in the 90’s, find a vintage bottle or 3ml sample for old times sake. Make sure product states Noxell Co. Hunt Valley MD and you’ll be enjoying the real deal like I am!

This was one of my first perfumes ever so when I happened to come across some mini bottles near the checkout and had to grab one. Nostalgia! I didn't know if I'd like it or not anymore and am actually surprised that I still like it- and like it enough to wear. Back in the day I remember so many girls wearing this...kind of like everyone has fragrances from BBW and VS nowadays. It's kind of ironic that buying this bottle of Navy now makes me feel unique because I know of absolutely nobody who wears it anymore. I plan to buy another next time I go if there are any still left. They had Tabu as well but I never wore that one before so I passed it up. I might just feel cheeky enough to grab both next time!

ROTFLMHO! I had completely forgotten about Navy. This was the first perfume I ever owned. I seriously think the reason I wanted it so badly was because I like the music in the commercial. (Sad, I know.) My mother wound up getting it for me as a Christmas present in 7th or 8th grade. And, that’s about how it smells. Just scented enough for a young pre-teen or teen making their first venture into “grown up” scents. I’m thinking soft floral and amber notes. I remember feeling so sophisticated because my friends were all running around spritzing raspberry and cotton candy scented nonsense every five seconds. Such a hoot to see this again!

This is quite yummy...I avoided trying this one for the longest time because it just looks to me like it would be no good... butttt What Im getting from this is a deep musky, amber and vanilla with a hint of rose! I looove amber and I looove vanilla so this is quite nice actually! It has this smokeyness to it that makes it different from the other amber scents ive tried. Its like the amber and vanilla were cooked together over a campfire with the smokeyness stirring into it ever so slightly. I like it! I might not wear it on the daily but on cozy weekends and nights it is very comforting : )

I've had a love-hate relationship with Navy since it first came out, when I first smelled it on my boss and for a long time couldn't think of it anywhere else or on anyone else. In this phase of life however, I find it to be a very warm and comforting scent and I like the cinnamon here more than in nearly anything else I have. The cinnamon and amber here seem to wrap around each other like a little scented candy cane, almost like they're dancing together. Navy was always cheap but there's a reason this stuck around as long as it did.

This I somehow was imagining Casbah Avon would be like. So I prefer Navy to Casbah among those cute cheapies of 90-s that I didnt explore enough yet. Navy is sweet, soapy, vanilla-spicy and almost gourmand on me, coz in ambery-musky drydown I have hints of dry fruits or even turkish delight sort of thing, very unexpected but nice nevertheless. I also often judge how nice fragrance not only from how it is on my skin but also how it is on my hair, - on hair its mostly ylang-ylang, coriandre and rose, - chaaaarming)

I am reviewing the formulation by Noxwell. It was my understanding that this was a pre-Dana buyout. The bottles look exactly alike, however my box included the words Cover Girl on the front. I find this formulation to be less powdery than the Dana formulation. I can actually pick up on the amber notes. I must say that this is a very nice everyday fragrance. It doesn't have a synthetic or urine smell to my nose as others have mentioned. I am really enjoying it.

this was another fragrance from my childhood. actually, my mom had it and i would borrow it from her. i remember it being fairly strong and i felt so grown up wearing it. it reminds me of the store gemco, which was kind of like the precursor to target because i would go there and smell all the scents: navy, love's baby soft, jovan musk, etc. anyway i remember it being kind of strong, floral and a bit green, but now i really want to retry it.
