Mystery Oud

Here is another fine example of an oud fragrance that doesn't include rose, and I do mean fine. Pure elegance in a bottle. My only complaint is that there is not quite enough oud for my taste, but that is a minor grievance. The scent as a whole is exquisite, and it is very well-blended. Those little hints of violet and Iris are a master stroke of olfactory genius. I can see the comparison with TF's Noir, but I feel Mystery Oud is more delicate and luxurious. For anyone like myself who is a little jaded by the ubiquitous oud/rose combo, give this a try. Longevity and silage are both moderate. Suited to any season or occasion, but more suited to night-time wear. I love it.

Another Daniel Josier to obsess over! Mystery Oud is a badass dark, inky, musky, leathery amber. There is a nice, but not necessarily obvious, iris note in the heart, and the base grows increasingly ambery over time. After a few hours, what remains on my skin REMINDS me of Musc Ravageur. They are not the same fragrance, but if you like MR, you should definitely try this. The name of the perfume is very fitting. It’s dark, mysterious and magnetic. I would like a full bottle.

Excellent men's perfume. I've always used mens cologne and did not realize how aromatic and long lasting mens perfume is. I thought perfume was for women, but I've had lots of compliments from women and my girl friend loves it which is what I was really looking for 😍

This is an unusual fragrance in that the Powdery ionones are cold and green, almost geranium or rose like, the violet sweetness only just rears it's head as it settles right in. There's clearly a clean, musky oud at the back of that maleki variety, (AdP Calonia Oud or Guerlain Santal Royal) but dialled right back again. It's a interesting oud but I don't like it and I'd never choose to wear it. Update: I thought to myself what a bizarre old review this is, but it's only from last year. Can't believe I thought this was 'oud-like' in the vain of a Colonia or Santal or Oud Maleki because it really isn't upon wearing it today. It's more of a rough sawn, sandalwood joss stick with some pot pouri and a definite nutmeg note. I don't mean any of these things is a bad way, It's a very appealing fragrance and not as piercing or odd as the oud dominated comparisons I made first time around, in fact oud and synth oud purists would be annoyed that it's got oud in the title. Re:Update: I was thinking what does this remind me of? I'm really not sure? Then it hit me, and it's only a very mild association, Tom Ford's Noir for men which is a fantastic, dark complex fragrance and this is not that at all nor is it as round and smooth as Noir.

#1771 in my “Tour de Fragrance” Got this decant from scentsplit.com. I’ve become a fan of Daniel Jossier, and I am a fan of woody leather scents generally. With the angelica and the huge dose of nutmeg giving this a slightly sweet opening I thought I was not going to like this. But it settled down in about ten minutes and I really do like its old school almost barbershop vibe. It’s not wildly different from Lataffa “Taj Rasi Silver Edition” which adds some citrus to these notes and runs $50, so you might be happy with that alternative and save $70. But I really like this combo without a citrus note hiding everything else. Most reviewers don’t seem to agree with me on this but I prefer the complexity of Memo “Iberian Leather” to this and the Lattafa. But I spend a lot of time in the forest and the earthier more animalic scents appeal to me. That said, this is reasonably priced, masculine, good longevity, but moderate silage, inoffensive, and I think it works for business or intimate wear. I prefer something with more projection, so not a buy for me. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

Blind bought this, having found it at a very good price and being impressed with Quetzaly. Lovely scent, although definitely “mystery oud” as I can’t smell any oud here at all. I seem to smell a faint whiff of Fahrenheit although no where near as strong. Moderate longevity & sillage on me and feels something I could wear anytime of the day although perhaps not on a hot summers day. Smells more masculine although @Lmhester below feels the other way - probably why it’s unisex!

Very nice quality with this one this has just a touch of Oud if you're someone who enjoys Oud but nothing overly heady or too medicinal smelling. This has a nice ambery-powderiness mixed with the Oud. On my skin a get a scent very familiar to Tom Ford's Noir for men, luxe, sexy & yes mysterious. Great if you're into Orientals with just a touch of powder, also say if you like TF Noir you will deff. enjoy this one to.

I have a decant from the JD discovery set. It reminds me of TF Noir and on the dry down it’s kind of similar to Musc Ravageur. This is a gorgeously masculine scent, sexy and nice 👍 9/10

A good, well-built fragrance. A bit old-school in a 1980s way — I’m at a tennis club as a youth in all whites, near an adult wearing this, which is quite impressive for the time. Most of the notes listed are not what I notice. As stated in a previous review, the oud is barely there — only as background support. What stands out to me is the equivalent of a melon-y dried fruit note (the carrot seed?)— long-lasting, and reminding me a bit of Roja Dove’s Apex. The sillage is an interestingly thin and floaty veil, presenting itself differently than the close-up sniffs.

At first it smells very medicinal then it starts smelling like Prada Amber intense (medicinal, ambery and balsamic) which I don't really like anymore. I decided to wash it off and suddenly it started smelling like Acqua di Parma colonia intensa oud (a bit cleaner and fresher) and now it smells very leathery even though I have showered. I have tried this one and Josune from this house and I believe that Daniel focuses mainly on the longevity and projection of his perfumes rather than giving them unique identities and blending them perfectly. I will not buy this one but I will definitely try all his perfumes. Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 10/10 Projection: 9/10 Price: 10/10

This is amazing oud very smooth wearable at first you really can smell a bit of the oud and cumin but that dies down rather quickly with the angelica and carrot seed dialing it down violet comes in and smooths it all out thwn comes in the powdery iris with some incense warm amber & olibanum leveled with a really nice musk and the oud is always present very similar to tf noir as stated before if u like that u will definitely appreciate this

I'm sampling my way through this house's offerings, and the common denominator is the consistent quality and smoothness of all his creations. The hand of a master is at work here. That being said, I'm not a fan of leathery notes so this colors my perceptions. Those who love leather will be delighted with this creation. Complex and totally unisex. Longevity and silage is extraordinary, as with all his EDPs.

I purchased this as a blind by from a closing down sale. This is near on an extract copy of Karl Lagerfields Homme - even the same colour juice. Not what I was expecting but a nice surprise as I used to love KL Homme ... warm, sweet boozy. Well worth the £45 I got it for

I like this alot but would like it even more if I hadn't smelled Matin a Mogador Botanicae first. Mystery Oud last a bit longer but Matin is more clean and refined. I'd recommend both.

This reminds me of perfumes I smelled on my mom, aunts and grandma in the 80s plus oud. It's quite pleasant but smells more feminine to me.
