Arashiyama

This was a ride to me because I first tested it on my skin expecting something green, fresh and airy and instead, I was hit by a very intense violet - something I did expect because I had read some people's comments saying their skin chemistry pushed the violet in an almost viole(n)t manner - but I was still a bit disgruntled because I had hoped it wouldn't happen to me. So I didn't touch my sample for a few weeks and then today, I finally tested it on paper - and voilà, there was the fresh- and greenness I had heard about. Instead of rain, it rather evokes the image of slightly chilly, slightly warm fog to me - you could also say a visible dampness in the air. It is also comparable to cold and humid air if you are in the shade near a body of water in summer. The violet was nicely balanced and contributed to this damp feeling, which effortlessly outlasted the greenness of the opening. So I gave this another try on my skin. Still the same loud, creamy violet in the foreground, to no surprise - it also had a slightly lactonic quality - but after one or two hours I was surprised at its development into a realistic damp bamboo wood scent. The projection is alright, but it honestly does not matter to me personally because even after more than two months of trying it I keep on dipping my nose on it whenever I spray it lol I think it's safe to say that for me, it is FB worthy.

One of the first ever niche scents i bought, but never did a review of it bc i started doing reviews only recently. This was my signature last summer. Its the first warm day since winter and i immediatly reached for it again. I really missed it. One of my favourites scents from d'annam, it opens up really green, also a bit metallic. But i get these floral notes too and its pretty powdery. Its not like a realistic bamboo ibut i really enjoy this. it really captures the dampness very well, its the kind of dampness you have when its one of those warm sticky, rainy summer days. Imagine walking though a dense bamboo forest on a hot summer day, where a patch of grass is freshly cut. it starts to rain, droplets fall on the warm stone path youre walking on. Cut grass leafs stick to your shoes as you walk through the forest. That is exactly how it smell to me. I just wished the longevity was a bit better, i get max 2-3 hours of projection after that it sits really close to the skin. Im wearing it today, it has been on my skin for almost 5 hours and its almost gone. Personally i dont really mind bringing a decant and reapply through out the day but for this price range i feels that shouldnt be the case. Overal this scent is great, i really love it. Really negative thing the only thing is longevity. 8,5/10 for me

Smells like sweet rice flour spilled on an antique wooden chest, somewhat marzipan like with a tad bit of spice. It's a very dry scent, like slightly sweet smelling textured paper, definitely not raining. Do not wear this scent in a drought, however, it will be too dry. I can picture that it would smell decadent in the rain. You will be a dry sanctuary providing comfort and reliability to those around you. As for the character, this scent belongs to a very clean, sophisticated girlie. She is majoring in law and minoring in forensics and is currently on coop at Drexel University. She will suffer from the Drexel Drought when all the semester based schools start up and her quarter based school has not begun yet even though it is 2/3rds of the way through September. Her apartment is full of antique furniture, and harbors many a rice paper lamp. She drinks white wine on saturday nights ONLY. And never alone. And she only has one glass.

I got the d’annam Japan discovery set and this one made me cry. I don’t know what it was specifically but it’s like I smelled it before. I think when I was a child and I’d walk around with my mom in the neighborhood on rainy days and going to the laundromat and being so happy (by no means detergent smelling!). It smells airy, aquatic in the freshest way possible, grassy in an extremely well done way with no rough edges, powdery in also the most well done way, and a touch floral to balance it all out, but not floral forward. You know how sometimes when you take your clothes out of the dryer and you put your nose to the clothes and it smells faint and a touch powdery? This scent has the softest touch of that. Just such a beautiful harmony. I think this one is very underrated. Will be getting a full bottle for the spring.

beautiful take on the ever-enchanting depths of arashiyama, japan's famous bamboo forest; its deep, green, and warm petrichor is such a magnetic combo. on my skin, there is a distinct spice. almost like how the smell of rain hits your nose. combined with a clean and deep scent of chlorophyll and light florals, im being transported into a hidden hut within the depths of a magical bamboo forest. i actually didnt like this scent the first time i tried it. but i tested it again, i fell in love with how grounding and mythical this smelled. need.

Maybe if you got your money's worth,100ML, then I would pay full price. It's beautiful. The scent is one of my absolute favorites, but I'm not spending that much money on a mere 50 ML. I don't care how special the ingredients were to make this. It lasts 4 at best, and that's as a skin scent after 2 hours and I'm being generous. And this is coming from someone who absolutely loves this scent. I truly do. I still have it on my list of top 100 perfumes. But it doesn't last, and for that price, it better last 8 hours and not as a skin scent.

I absolutely love this fragrance. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever smelled before. I discovered it through the D’Annam discovery set, and it was love at first sniff. I knew right away I needed the full bottle. It’s sweet and fresh, but the bamboo and violet add the perfect balance soft, clean, and captivating without being overpowering. It’s beautifully blended and feels effortlessly unique. Definitely unisex anyone can wear this and feel amazing in it. Well done, D’Annam.

A cold and crisp rainfall in a fresh bamboo garden with soft violet petals. This is slightly melancholy but in such a tranquil way. You get the bamboo most, it’s fresh, it’s green, with a slight woodiness to it to add body. The rain is distinct, it’s cold and wet, and slightly musky. The violets add a nice softly powdery touch to cut through the aquatics. The dry down is a green and woody scent with remnants of those powdery violets.

Spiritually similar to Sakura Snow with its gauzy, well roundedness, paired with their respective spicy notes. Though Arashiyama is all warm, powdery, woods. Nothing hard or old. Instead it is springy, green new growth. A mild bittersweetness like newly born boughs bent and twisted. Also unlike Sakura Snow, that spicy thread sticks around. Sort of pink pepper savory. Its nice. I think they are fun paired together.

Right when you spray, the aquatic and ozonic accords punch you in the face, but within 5 seconds on the skin, the fragrance immediately starts transforming, and the grass and bamboo notes take center stage. This perfume is fresh, springy, and unique. The projection is on the lower-medium side once it dries down, but this is so enjoyable and smells lush, bright, and green.

I got this as a sample when I ordered Angel Dust by Fugazzi.... WOW. I selected this out of curiosity with Little Flower by RDF and Bo by Liis and this blew me away. Reminds me of why I love Debaser by DS and Durga with its watery freshness, but that violet is just gorgeous. Ordering a full bottle the second I can.

Thoroughly enjoying this one in the discovery set I purchased. On me it almost smells milky, like fresh coconut water. It really does have the green, woody, almost humid scent of green bamboo. I've come back to it a few times this spring, its perfect for the rainy season.

So gentle, natural, fresh, & melancholic... (the scent profile *feeling* gentle, that is. In terms of in-action, this can project and it lasts a very long time on clothes) The "cool rain & wet greenery/wood" smell makes this very wearable in hot temperatures too.

Never been to Japan's Arashiyama, but I have been to South Korea's Juknokwon Bamboo forrest and it smells exactly like that after a rainy day. It is an absolutely beautiful, perfectly unisex, cool scent that really relaxes you

Fragrances that genuinely capture rain and wetness are rare, and this one does so beautifully. The dampness here isn’t about crushed leaves or muddy earth. It feels colder and quieter; less green, more clouded-blue, like the muted blue of an overcast sky. It’s like rain brushing against your face as you walk along a wet stone path. The ground gleams softly under your feet. On either side, succulents and tiny, miniature cities sit in silence, slowly darkening as the rain deepens. You open your umbrella; droplets scatter as they hit the stone, bouncing lightly, rhythmically. Everything feels hushed, dreamlike, suspended in time; melancholy, yet strangely tender. Arashiyama transforms my wood-furnished room into a serene garden, evoking the refined scent you’d encounter in the lobby of a high-end nature retreat. Performance is quite solid, with good longevity and a moderate, well-balanced projection. That said, I prefer wearing it in cool, slightly chilly weather, where its character truly shines. It also feels perfectly suited to an office environment, quite elegant, calming and no overwhelming

The opening is fresh, green and aquatic. Very calming. The dry down feels more sweet, soft and cozy. When I first smelled Arashiyama it reminded me a bit of Snowy Owl by Zoologist and I couldn't figure out why, because they don't really share any notes. But after reading the reviews and seeing that others smelled coconut in this, I feel less crazy. Overall I think this is a lovely fragrance that I could see myself reaching for again.

I love the rain note. It smells like a quiet lac would smell like. Rainy, but not earthy, soft, fresh, aquatic. The woodiness of the Bamboo accord is a nice touch. Floral with green watery notes. Not bad. If you like rainy days, relaxing while reading a book, or a soft feminine fragrance whitout being powdery, smell like a grandma or too strong, go for it !

I find this one perfect for a very rainy spring or summer day! It feels so fresh and wet in a good way, at least in the beginning. The drydown was less pleasant to me, it got a little sour and started smelling more like grass cuttings than rainy forest. Still interesting and original though, I haven't smelled anything else like it!

This scent really does transport you to a bamboo forest on a rainy day, and there's nothing more I appreciate than when a fragrance hits the mark it's aiming for. It's honestly the perfect spring day scent to me - certainly a decent battle between this and Diptyque's Philosykos.

It was so close to being perfect but the violet is so overpowering in this. It smells like a rainy bamboo forest for the first 30 minutes but then the violet kicks in and it turns into A Drop d'Issey by Issey Miyake which gave me headaches.

True to the notes. Violets, green bamboo, and fresh grass all drenched in rain. Like walking through a damp bamboo forest. Pretty, dewy, and clean. Decent strength and lasting power. Impressed with what I’ve sampled from this house so far!

carries the freshness of the two weeks a year it’s sunny in london that i can now access all the time. freshly cut grass baking in the heat with a soft breeze to cut the stagnation. the ozone note gives it a sky garden feel.

It's a pretty clean green woodsy smell. It smelled pretty sweet, almost coconutty. But I did get ozonic notes! I can't remember smelling aquatic notes but will look out for it.

Oh how interesting. I think I get aqua, bamboo, and violet, not necessarily grass. It’s very watery. I think the violet keeps it pleasant for me.

This scent is so peaceful to me. It feels like you're lying on a grass field while falling asleep. Very green and fresh.

On me, the dry down is a bit like Santal 33 which I’m not a fan of but I’ll try it again on clothing instead of my skin

It smells like the air of a bamboo like sugar cane with a dash of soap.

I am still trying to determine my feelings on this. I have been looking for a green watery "rain" scent and while this absolutely fits that bill there is something about it. Off putting is not the right word but I am struggling to capture the feeling this evokes. The scent is very transportive for me, but not entirely welcoming (but not foreboding either). This smells like a bamboo grove after the rain. But it's early in the morning snd winter is lurking in the air with a slight frostiness. There is a clearing and on the other side you can see a shrine. There's a cold somberness bordering on austerity to this.

I really like this immediately after putting it on - super fresh and green, i almost get freshly cut cucumber and grass for sure. the violet also comes in at first. after a few minutes though, the spa-like quality starts to evolve into more of a camphorous moment... and in unpleasant one. literally makes my eyes sting a little, it feels like I’m using Vicks vapo rub omg. also much stronger than I was expecting, especially compared to the others in this collection

This smells like being in some kind of jungle (i havent smelt bamboo ever so it might be that). it has this fresh air-ish smell which is harmoning with the wood. The wood is a little bit sweet with something uniquie in the bagground. when i though more about it, it smells like wet soil and trees personally im not a wood-earthy kinda guy, but if i were to by the scent profile it would be this one.

Smells like a baby and an old person at the same time. Clean and powdery/lotiony floral. A shiny vase of flowers on a small but tall white round table in a bright white room with a large mass market type of canvas print above it that has those fake paint strokes so it has a texture and looks more fancy. Reminds me of a hallmark store as well. Shiny... vibes

at first thought it was sooo weird/strange in a bad way, like old man and powdery. but today was a rainy day and i would just catch whiffs of it while lying down and it was actually pretty nice & comforting! i think it's just very STRONG, wouldn't consider it a safe blind buy. it's very interesting.... it lasts a really long time, like 8+ hours on skin

opening of baby wipes and drydown of sour grass. only lasted about 3 hours. i kept going back and forth on whether or not i liked it but my boyfriend hated it! curious to see if a different violet perfume would give me the aspects of this scent that i enjoyed without the weird drydown.

I don't really love. I agree with another reviewer that it has a cold quality to it and I can see how it could be relaxing for others, but it's almost nauseating to me. Realistic bamboo note and wetness though!

I had high hopes for this one, but it smells just like a day at the beach. It smells like sunscreen, sand, and salt water. I guess it's the rain notes that are overpowering everything else for me

I was expecting for green notes and morning dew, the smell of lingering petrichor in a bamboo forest. Instead this kinda smells like a drain, it has a weird metallic opening.

I wanted to love this scent so much, maybe it was the bamboo but i got a hint of coconut ( i hatee coconut ) everything else in the scent was absolutely wonderful.

The violet note is too strong to appreciate the short-lived rain and bamboo notes which are incredibly beautiful

At first spray very fresh, ozonic. Afterwards a very intense violet-bamboo combo. At first I thought it would be leaning masculine but the violet makes it very feminine. I find the violet too strong. I think I am also not a fan of bamboo fragrances, they have some weird subtext to them, maybe it's the wetness that puts me off? Do I smell rain? No, not at all. Although fresh, for me too nauseating. It has a very cool, almost cold quality to it which I find very nice!

Blocki perfumes had an ozonic floral violet perfume called For Walks which matches the description and notes for this perfume. I can almost smell that delicate, slightly watery and ozonic violet underneath the cloying cloud of what I can only described as charred, soapy coconut and soap. Everything in here seems to clash for me in a very unpleasant way. I guess I was expecting a greener version of the Blocki or even the OG Balenciaga violet.

I was very excited to hear the scent profile of this fragrance that boasted strong bamboo, grass, and green notes. Sign me up! I was very disappointed when I got it and the two immediate notes that hit me over the head were violet and coconut. I would not call this fragrance unisex, I think it’s distinctly feminine. If you’re looking for a green fragrance, this is truly not it. Anyone with recommendations for one, please send them my way!

Absolutely beautiful on test strip. On skin, it opens beautifully, lingering with a wet, ethereal sweetness. But around the 30-minute mark, the violet takes over completely -- and I couldn't handle it. I never realized how intense violet could be, but it was migraine-inducing for the rest of the day. What a bummer.
