In The Garden

wow. i was so deeply enamored by this scent. it took me back to being in my college dining hall, making myself gunpowder jasmine tea for lunch every day. i was freshly eighteen and didn't know anyone yet, so I'd eat alone between afternoon classes. i never felt alone, rather recharged and optimistic for the day ahead. something about jasmine tea has always been so viseral for me, as someone with adhd it can be pretty easy for me to be distracted and ungrounded in a moment, i live in my head a lot, but inhale the steam and aroma from my mug was my favorite midday ritual. I don't really consume jasmine tea because its typically green tea based and I dont drink caffeine anymore. but the second i put the perfume on its like i never stopped smelling it a single day. a memory so fresh in my mind i would've thought the mug was beneath me with my eyes closed in the store. wow. i've never smelled jasmine in real life, but i'm a jasmine devotee, as almost all my signature perfumes contain jasmine, but my mom said it was insanely realistic, and honestly, i could tell. vaguely smoky, very green, like being right next to a blooming bush. i felt like i almost saw the mist, felt the humidity, saw all the verdant shades in the garden. this is THE most photorealistic perfume i've ever smelled. i've never been taken somewhere so vividly as i have with this perfume. the only reason it didnt come home with me the very same day i tried it (a cardinal law i never break, but it would've been so worth it if not for this one thing) is because it burned my skin for some reason. i tried it on my inner elbow and it felt like what putting lip plumper on your lips feels like. my skin got hot, odd, and even a little tingly. any other perfume would've probably sparked a bit of anxiety in me, but 1) it was not such a strong sensation, though gently distracting, 2) i was so enamored and relaxed by the jasmine in this. i might try it on again some other time and see if i get the same reaction because wow. i thought it was too green at first to wear as perfume, but the sentimentality i feel around it where the scent is just engraved into my mind. 100/10, especially for that gorgeous dry down.

Normally I an unmoved by jasmine perfumes but I absolutely adored In the Garden, which was a surprise favorite for me from the Discovery set. The white florals are dominant from beginning to end, sweetened by the pear and a honeysuckle note from the Rangoon creeper. Another note I usually avoid but actually love here is coconut, since it’s often so synthetic and too sunscreen-y for me. In the Garden’s coconut is more like coconut milk, a soft and creamy note that marries and enhances everything else. Those big florals are balanced really nicely with freshly cut green stems, which keep it all from being too sweet or feeling too old. In the Garden successfully evokes its own name, making me feel like I’m sitting in a humid garden in the evening, admiring the fruits of my labor after spending my day trimming night blooming jasmine. It’s lovely. This may be full bottle worthy for me; the only downsides so far are underwhelming projection and sillage but at this price point, I may be inclined to ignore those and just overspray. 8/24 - I bought full bottles of both In the Garden and Pho Breakfast, but this is hands down my favorite. It’s sweet and creamy but also fresh and clean feeling; it is all I want to wear when it’s hot out. I find In the Garden hard to overspray because longevity isn’t amazing as I found with the sample, but you can get it to linger if you spray your hair or clothes.

In The Garden is my third sampling from d’Annam’s Chapter 1 Discovery Set, and it fittingly smells like a fresh garden of citruses and florals. Jasmine, neroli, and petitgrain, plenty green and very delicately blended, making it easy to wear, without much sharpness, just a bright, smooth bouquet. It’s one of the better execution of this concept that I’ve tried, and in a very straightforward unisex manner, a very comforting scent that’s nonetheless still vibrant for going out at any time of year. Like the rest of the line, In The Garden is EDP concentration and priced at $120 for 50ml, reasonable in the current market, in my opinion, for niche perfumery, and as with the other two fragrances from the house that I’ve tried so far, I’m quite impressed by the creativity, quality, and performance. The full d’Annam collection is sold through the house website but boutiques like Arielle Shoshana and Luckyscent carry some of the line’s fragrances, also. 8 out of 10

I did not expect to love this as much as I do! On the blotter I felt pretty indifferent about it, but I'm absolutely adoring it on skin. I'm a fragrance newbie and am still very much learning how to distinguish different notes; I'm experiencing a pleasant, dewy floral scent that reminds me most of honeysuckle - I'm guessing that's the combination of the white florals? This scent is mature in the most beautiful way and I'm impressed with the sillage so far. I thoroughly enjoyed The Garden surrounding me in my car on the way to work on this warm spring day.

This is a beautifully buttery and creamy white floral medley with a touch of sweet pear and a coconutty sandalwood base. This opens with that sweet pear, it’s dewy and soft, with a touch of fresh neroli. The heart of this is a milky and creamy medley of lush tuberose and sweet jasmine, amplified by the rangoon creeper which smells like those two florals on steroids lol. The base maintains the creamy and milky feel with a soft sandalwood wrapped in coconut and enveloped by warm amber. A beautiful take on a white floral scent profile.

This is the last fragrance I tested from the Vietnam set; and easily the best. A dewy combination of jasmine and tuberose, presenting lush, creamy white florals with a convincing garden realism. Absolutely enchanting. I usually look for indolic depth in white florals; this one is only mildly indolic, yet the refined, polished execution more than compensates. What materialised in my mind was the purest shade of white, edged with a watery green shimmer. Stunning work. Tag(s): dewy, white floral, ethereal, pure, clean, garden

The most well done and simple white floral I've tried. In the Garden is the fragrance equivalent of plush, full bloom petals against your skin. Opens wet and vegetal and smooths over quickly. The floral blend seems jasmine adjacent maybe a bit lilac-y, a splash of ripe coconut in the front, and just at its peak. It hasn't tipped over into the slow indolic decay quite yet. Spring becoming summer. Luckily there isn't anything soapy about this. Just a strong, sweet, and expensive smelling bouquet.

I am so impressed by this perfume, especially because this is so not my type yes it is a feminine blossom-based floral but it is divine, soooo fresh and elegant and green, all notes I can pick one by one but none of the blossoms are overpowering, the balance is just sublime

I love this. Is rangoon creeper the secret ingredient ? It is so relaxing and lux. I see myself in a tranquil tropical garden filled with all kinds of flowers, especially jasmine and tuberose

Very green at first then a while later I get a lot of honeysuckle for some reason, though it’s not in the listed notes. I love it.

Beautiful, soft, fresh, tuberose. No indolic stink that some white florals have. Feels pretty and youthful.

This was love at first sniff for me, I had to get the full bottle. This opens with a bright green, like freshly cut stems. The skin warms up the fragrance to a riper blossom, which I attribute to the tuberose, but the crispness of the opening remains. The coconut base note provides a slightly milky drydown, and sits fairly close to the skin. 10/10 fragrance for me, I see myself wearing this a lot. The only note I have is regarding the bottle. I also own Vietnamese Coffee (purchased earlier this year) and noticed that In The Garden has a slightly shorter, thinner, and less weighty bottle. This definitely feels more fragile. With the recent price hike, I was expecting better packaging.

working my way through the discovery set. must say that i did not have very high hopes on reading the notes- was expecting another mediocre white floral fragrance. this opens a touch sweeter albeit not cloyingly so, then dries down to something a bit greener and fresher, although the florals still predominate. ultimately quite a linear scent, though very photorealistic. there is a jasmine bush outside my house and my wrist right now rather smells like the way my porch does after a light rain, or if i am somehow up early enough that a wet dewyness still hangs in the air. enjoyable and nostalgic, although i'm not sure i would want to smell like this all the time.

This is very lovely. Before spraying I wasn’t sure what kind of floral I would get. I think perhaps a very clean, fresh fragrance. Upon spray, I get sweetness and creaminess. It’s tuberose and jasmine most prominently and other notes playing supporting roles. Creamy, sweet tuberose and jasmine. It’s almost intoxicating with its white floral richness. While this is undoubtedly beautiful, I already have something similar—Nishane Tuberoza X.

gorgeous and lightly honeyed day white floral. perfect for spring or summer, it is fresh and delivers a lazy sweetness that feel sticky and slow as flower sap. i know it's tuberose and jasmine, but this smells honeysuckle the whole way through to me. very nostalgic and beautiful

This smells like childhood and honeysuckle dew drops on my tongue. A bit sweet and cloying for an everyday perfume, but I adore this fragrance as a work of art. I would absolutely purchase a candle version if that were an option. It's a lovely ray of sunshine

Such a delightful scent. The jasmine and coconut combo are something i didn’t think i would need but it works so well into calming the jasmine making it almost powdery. So far this my fav from the discovery set

Really like it. Reminds me of Florence by Tocca and Phloria by Phlur, but much creamier which gives it a coziness that white florals are often missing/needing.

This reminds me of something my mom used to wear. A lush white floral rounded out beautifully by coconut.

This is just an okay for me. I enjoy all of the individual notes, but this isn't unique as I feel there are too many similar fragrances out there already. The pear note in this scent is reminiscent of the one in Tocca Florence, and Miu Miu Fleur d' Argent also smells similar, but this is lighter, lacking the full-bodied qualities of those fragrances. While this scent is not sheer, it lacks depth in a similar way to Florist by Ellis Brooklyn, which I also find lacking in depth. In its defense, despite not being an aquatic, the pear note in this scent gives it a refreshing and watery quality that would be perfect for a casual hot summer day. Edit - Wow, this wears so much better in warmer weather. It's really beautiful now. The heat really draws out all the notes. Still, this fragrance profile has been done many times before, and some of those perfumes I already have, so I wouldn't buy a bottle. But if I didn't have anything like this, I would definitely consider it.

For the premium niche price point there's cheaper synonymous scents. Classic tuberose/neroli scent DNA. I can't say I'm blown away by this. The opening is pretty green, so much so that I initially expected a very different scent family. Over time it settles into a sweeter tuberose with a very gentle sweetness from the coconut. Of course it also has that certain "oily" wet feel that this type of white florals tend to have, that I personally enjoy, it makes you feel like you're getting a thai massage. The base is exactly as you'd expect, very on theme with the gentle sandalwood. It's pleasant, but it's painfully unoriginal, and it doesn't really read as D'annam to me in any way.

Fresh white florals. Jasmine. Planty. Clean, almost soapy. I've never been a fan of white florals so this definitely isn't my favorite perfume. I almost feel like it's unfair of me to review this scent because of how strongly I dislike white florals. I can recognize that this is a beautifully crafted scent, the notes blend together very well, but it's such a clean and piercing(?) scent. I genuinely would love to see a mood/outfit board based around this scent, I would love to see what types of aesthetics/fashions people associate with this scent.

when you first spray this - it comes very cold, like you walked in one of these flower refrigerators. it disappears quickly, and starts to smell like basic floral scent + close to skin. reminds me of pink Chance, but without the sweetness of grapefruit. anyway, boring...

Classic white floral, basically its just strong neroli...not bad but am not a fan of white florals

If you want a cheap dupe try Elizabeth Arden- Arden beauty. It smells identical.

Such a smooth mixture of several of my favorite notes. Until I get the full size I've been trying to utilize/layer fragrances I already have in my collection to replicate it somewhat. I start with Athena Solar Muse body spray for the neroli, and layer a little osmanthus oil. I then go with Diptyque Kyoto or L'ombre Dans L'eau for that sharp green note, followed by Doson EDP or hair mist. Sometimes also a wild jasmine hair mist I have. Sounds excessive but it gets me there. Especially once it's all dried down and melds together. It's missing a little of the elegance though and I have to be careful to go light on all the layers or I smell way too strong for work. I was thinking of buying this for spring but now I find myself craving it on summer mornings. Savoring the last of my 2ml.

Correct notes as per the Discovery Set: Top: Petitgrain, Pear, Neroli Heart: Jasmine, Rangoon Creeper Base: Sandalwood, Amber, Coconut. There is no tuberose note here. Fragrantica is once again not bothering with accuracy (and it is unclear why they feel the need to incorrectly list tuberose in so many white floral scents). There is also no green bell pepper here (nor is there in any of the Enchanting Vietnam series). *Note: my intention is not to be negative. Evidently, social media has given rise to a high volume of people new to perfumery and sloppily listed information is not going to help them identify different notes and accords. It merely makes for a slew of inaccurate reviews that benefit neither the new nor the more experienced.

In The Garden, by d'Annam, smells like nectary tuberose, a hint of ylang-ylang, green bell pepper, green plants and fresh green coconut. It has some of the same intense and particular green leaf scent that Dior Addict has. I have never been to Vietnam, but this fragrance definitely gives me the vibe of a garden in a sunny, tropical country, through it's scent. I see myself wearing this during the summer, during the day, when everything is green and fruitful, maybe going to the farmer’s market to buy produce that is in season, or on a morning picnic. It smells both sweet, floral and green. It smells more greener when it dries down. In The Garden is unique and lovely.

This garden is blooming! ...with tuberose most strongly, the kind that begins to gets peppery. Also the oily tang of citrus in leaf as well as flower. Really all of the listed notes seem perceptible here. The juicy liquor of a ripe pear does seem to catch in my throat, ...and coconut and sandalwood do describe the base well. In The garden is well-crafted and finely detailed. Most should enjoy this, ...assuming they're ready for a LOT of spicy tuberose. Honestly, my senses are having flashbacks to Barrois' Aldebaran, ...that may be a stretch, but I am sincere.

It's quite nice but nothing special to me, just another white floral tuberose scent, and reminds me of Gucci Bloom. I know some white floral haters say it gives them headache, I never got that and I love white florals, but In the Garden does give me headache without fail. I'll still use it occasionally and hope the headache won't be too bad. It would be a straight 'like' if not for the headache, but it's now somewhere between 'like' and 'ok'.

this is delightful- a beautiful, bright white floral that leans sour and green- which is what i really like. gives impressions of stems, herbs, greenery, a little bit of creaminess. it's fabulous but i don't need to own it. it's girlish and slightly exciting, but it isn't exciting enough to pay for. i would buy it for half price...

it's a little bit too much, but i can't stop smelling myself when i'm wearing this. so fresh, green, slightly wet. i do feel as though i'm walking in some lush garden after the rain. or that i'm carrying a funeral bouquet through the mist. the pear and coconut round this out for me.

As someone that doesn't like white floral prominent fragrances, this is actually really lovely. Still too white floral prominate for me to want to own but I love the fresh garden notes combined with the white florals, definately one to sample if you love your white florals.

This is lovely. Very fresh and green and full of white flowers. I purchased a tester set from D’Annam and thus far I have been very impressed with the quality and blending of each fragrance. I think this is an under rated house.

The only thing saving In The Garden from smelling like any neroli-forward perfume ever is the inconsistent whiff of coconut peeking through. Even with it, though, it still lacks originality and depth.
