Monsoon Tea

Sampling Monsoon Tea by d’Annam, a really pleasantly watery fresh blend of citruses, green tea, musk, and vetiver, very much in the same family as In The Garden, but a shift away from florals and neroli in favor of citruses and green tea, but still citric, green, fresh, and agreeable. It has a vaguely mossy, borderline vegetal quality to it but not so much that it smells realistic to the point of being unpleasant. It’s really quite great, as with the other scents I’ve tried in the house so far, and performs well, particularly for a freshie. As with the rest of the line, Monsoon Tea is EDP concentration and priced at $120 for 50ml, which is a very reasonable pricing level relative to other niche options currently. In addition to the full collection being sold on their house site, d’Annam is now carried, in part, by Ministry of Scent, Luckyscent, and Arielle Shoshana, each of which sells some, but not all, of the line’s current catalogue of nine fragrances. Monsoon Tea is sold by all three of those boutiques, though. 8 out of 10

Oh that's the stuff! The smell of when your mom made you green tea as a kid, but you didn't like it because it was well... unsweetened green tea, so you procrastinated drinking it, but it cooled down and that only made the taste stronger, now fully saturated and tasting sharp like the stems more than the leaves. The citrus is a wonderful contribution, and makes this a fresh scent. There's something almost aquatic about it, giving it that wet feel, and creating a scent that is both fresh and sharp, yet weirdly calming, the same way that rain makes you want to stay inside and relax, yet makes you feel energized and awake. I've worn it both to start the day, and to bed. The originality - making a fresh clean scent smell interesting - alone makes the price tag justified. Nothing like anything I've tried before, and my favourite from the vietnam discovery set so far.

I have been searching for a super fresh green tea scent, and i definitely think this accomplishes it. Within the first few mins it is everything I wanted, green tea, grassy, zingy and citrus, like a fresher stronger version of Elizabeth Arden’s green tea. It kind of calms down into more of the grass and warms up a bit after a while, but like a lot of green tea fragrances it isn’t super strong and doesn’t last a long time. I think it does last better and stronger than a lot of other green tea scents I’ve tried, it doesn’t completely disappear like some other do, and I think it’s a really good option for times when I don’t necessarily want a really strong or offensive scent. Like this would be great to wear to work, to travel, to class etc. I do just generally really enjoy it though, it’s a fragrance that just makes me happy!

Love this perfume, honestly. When I tried it on paper, the opening was a bit too harsh for me, but then dried down beautifully, still the opening made me a bit disappointed. BUT, I tried it on skin a couple of hours ago and the opening was not harsh on me, it was pleasant, and dried to the same beautiful center of green tea, which I love. I also chose a great day since it’s a warm and rainy spring day. It’s been 2 hours and I can still smell in on myself but I don’t expect it to last much longer, nonetheless, I don’t really mind since I love it so much that I can just reapply. I have a tester from the discovery kit, but I will try to purchase a full bottle asap. Both this, and pomelo oolong are my favourite tea scents and some of my favourite scents overall.

My first impression: instantly fell in love. Next thought was that it smelled like a far more complex and expensive version of the method blue hand soap (called sea minerals) at which point i realized i may be too much of a plebeian to pick out any notes from this. It does not smell like green tea to me, nor citrus .. maybe it smells a bit like green tea? A jasmine note? To me it all blends together into one beautiful scent but doesnt smell particularly unique or unfamiliar... EDIT I have applied a larger dose of this and now I really get the green tea and bergamot. Heavenly.. if only it lasted longer on the skin

Absolutely gorgeous smell, It's very soft, It feels like I'm drinking tea outside on a beautiful cool but sunny day, It was recently drizzling, and the sun warms the leaves in the nearby garden. I am in love, who said that they could create such a lovely scent? This perfume soaks into your skin making it a very skin close scent! Wonderful as an everyday wear!!! 9/10, I will be getting a big bottle!

Very high quality fregrance, perfectly balanced and very tea forward. Usually o dont love very green accords but this is so smooth and comforting green tea, the lime and tea here come together almost like lemongrass which i love and its just so unique and beautiful. This is everything wulong cha wished it was. very pricy though.

I love the freshness of this. Considering it is called monsoon tea, I'm surprised there aren't any marine/aquatic/ozonic notes listed. Despite that, the notes are incredibly reminiscent of the cool air after it rains.

I enjoy this one and it is pleasant to wear. I appreciate it. It does come more as citric to me. For citric fragrances I would have to pick L'eau D'Issey Pour Homme by Issey Miyake. I'll give this an 8.5/10

I love this tea fragrance. It is light, subtle and beautiful with the tea note very very clear. It might be the best green tea fragrance yet. It is such a good fragrance for the summer.

I was told that it smells on me firstly like bergamot tea, then like green tea and after several hours or wearing - again bergamot tea. Very refreshing and not too much annoying smell.

I really like this fragrance, I'd even go to say its my favorite of the first chapter. It smells like a rainstorm falling upon a tea garden. Very beautiful, bitter, green, vegetal.

Very similar to Gentleman in my nose, citric, fresh, quite woody maybe because the tea that balance all the citric and fresh load.

Bright, unique, and fresh tea scent. Great performance, a perfect everyday reach for spring and summer.

Smells like a non-alcoholic mojito

opens extremely vegetal with the very specific note of cucumber skin it is so pleasent and non synthetic smelling you really worry "oh no another scent that turns into pickle for some reason" no this is pure garden fantasy this is what is says it is and then some I don't think i'd be able to say "oh thats a tea scent" if i was blind folded and asked but I think it absolutely accomplishes what it sets out to do - and it very much does remind me of the more expensive flushes of green tea i've had it continues to dry down into the lily and amber - sort of a sweet almost aquatic scent of steam rising from a cup the vegetal nature really rounding out very much like leaves to a brewed cup I wasnt expecting much with this! I honestly think this is pretty one note for a tea scent but I also think that single note was incredibly well executed. I could see myself reaching for this very often tbh I was going to say "it has warmth that other green scents do not. a gentle warmth that isn't woody" and realized warm green is tea silly :) if you dont like the scent of cucumber/vegetal notes this is gonna be a tough one for you but the dry down may be worth it!

I had a genuine wow moment at the very beginning: it was dewy, delicate, and utterly enchanting, with both tea and lily-of-the-valley shimmering through but within a few minutes, that magic quietly dissolved and settled into a clean-linen impression. Lovely, yes (who doesn’t enjoy freshly laundered sheets?), but perhaps a touch too pristine. A sharply citrusy thread shows up in the heart, though it does calm down as it develops. In the drydown, it circles back to a gentle tea-and-musk pairing and fades softly; and this stage in particular is serene and quietly beautiful. If it had leaned a little less citrusy and a little more dewy, it might have been truly delightful but even as it is, I still enjoyed it. The projection, sillage, and longevity are all light. Very distinctive lime top note. I can see how others are saying cucumber skin, but as a big tequila drinker I know my limes and that's a lime. Drydown is kind of a vaguely sweet and vaguely floral tea supported by amber and vetiver. Retains green and citrus rind characteristics for a couple hours. Has both a cool fresh green and a warm sunny skin feeling at the same time. Although citrus tea scents are not a new concept, this one is very unique. The green elements here are very natural plant-smelling and not soapy-aldehydic or overly floral. Test this out if you like: lime, tea, or jungle type scents.

Probably my favorite out of the Enchanting Vietnam set. It reminds me of a pretty and relaxing rainy day strolling through a lime tree farm and drinking green tea after. Could be great for all year round but probably better in the warm weather. It's so refreshing and cooling I can't get over it. The only thing is the longevity and projection.......there's none of it. For a crazy expensive 1.7 oz bottle, you would expect better quality. It's such a great scent but not worth the $160. Literally an unbelievably high price for such a new brand.

An interesting citrus. After the disappointment of Pho Breakfast I'm happy to smell a distinct lime backed by some kind of savory note. Even if its very light and under the tea umbrella. I feel like I'm standing in the middle of a rain soaked, storm blow, tall grass field. Oils of the grass are bright and herbal. Something like dried earthy citrus peel. The sweet and savory feel very well balanced to me and while this is not something I'd wear everyday I greatly appreciate the beautiful evocation.

One of the only clean and fresh scents I enjoy wearing that doesn't turn cloying on my skin. The green tea and lime are lovely and bitter. Lily of the valley is one of my favorite notes and it's deployed wonderfully here. Overall it smells like barely sweetened jasmine ice tea with lychee. Then there's an animal musk underneath that makes me think of skin under the sun. There's also this woody dusty note that almost makes me thirsty. Lovely fragrance for summer.

D'Annam is really becoming one of my favorite houses. All of their scents seem to dance around the notes and develop as you wear them. The openeing to Monsoon Tea is very green and citrusy, reminding me of a cucumber with lime. About 30/45 minutes in the green tea note comes out, followed by the florals. from the hour mark until about 4 hours after spraying, the fragrances reminds me of Le Labo's Bergamote 22 but with a stronger amber note in the far dry down.

Another delightfully green, fresh scent from this maker. I loved Arashiyama, a humid young bamboo smell, and this feels like the perfect companion. I was initially a little put off/confused by the sharpness of the citrus opening, but it dries out very quickly into grassy, vegetal tea leaves. I'm really enjoying the uplifting mood of this one, it feels just like going for a walk on a spring morning, when everything is still cool and wet with dew.

working my way through the discovery set. this one opens very strongly with lemongrass and tea. instantly familiar, but also reminiscent of south east asian cuisine, which i'm not sure i want to smell like. dries down fairly quickly to a much more pleasant slightly sweet-slightly sour green tea. on a whole, enjoyable, but probably not worth the price tag for a full bottle.

This is such a fresh yet calming scent. The opening is VERY green, like drinking a cup of green tea on the porch while rain falls on the leaves of bushes and trees around you. The dry down is very lime and bergamot forward. It makes me feel both invigorated and grounded at the same time. Overall the dry down is a bit too sharp for my nose, but it's a nice scent.

This is a refreshingly cozy green tea scent with bright citrus and dry vetiver. It opens with a splash of lime with leafy green freshness followed by the smell of tea leaves and clean florals. This is a very naturalistic and unsweetened cup of green tea, freshly brewed, the warmth coming from ambery musks and woodiness in the base. An overall enjoyable tea scent

you’re sitting outside in a verdant garden, clutching a cup of green tea that’s starting to get cold, watching a rainstorm approach. a cool breeze picks up speed and ruffles the still-damp laundry on the line. scattered leaves and pale flower petals blow across the stone path. beautiful, but very quiet, and ultimately brief.

Opening is very bitter vegetal. Quickly turns into a classic “rain” accord finally settling into some earl grey and green tea notes. Kind of leans into soapy direction(Think incense Kyoto drydown) It’s quite nice , light and fresh but nothing groundbreaking.Reminiscent of Wulong Cha, but i much more prefer this.

A really nice tea scent! Unlike most tea perfumes that tend to be grassy, this one is very light and pleasant without also smelling like cleaning supplies. Perfect for a spring day as the weather warms up, buuut unfortunately it doesn’t last very long. After an hour I lose it on my skin almost entirely. 7.5/10

Smell wise it is amazing. Perfect summer porch scent for me, especially if you have plants in your vicinity. However, this should be in a body mist bottle for 2 digits max and not the current price it is. I would suggest “Green Tea” by Elizabeth Arden if you want this and refuse to pay the hefty price.

A lovely scent. It's full of zingy citrus, punctuated by an earthy vetiver that works well with underlying tea notes. It's like inhaling all the lovely greenness of a freshly picked bouquet, perhaps with some lemon juice spritzed on top.

Slightly floral but fresh green tea scent. I get a nice dry down of bergamot. Tea scents aren’t necessarily my thing, but I enjoy wearing them on very hot days. Wish the price justified the performance as it very weak.

light, fresh, pale green. burns through the tea and bergamot quick and settles to a feathery light musk. pleasant. reminds me of my mom's various elizabeth arden green tea flankers from the early 2000s.

Amazing you feel like you are in southern asia in a tea field, but the performance and sillage are awful, NOT A SAFE BLIND BUY Longevity 4/10 Smell 8/10 Sillage 3/10 Value for money 6/10 Overall 7/10

Fresh and green lime with petitgrain. The tea note is very subtle and more of a bitter tea than something you typically get in more mainstream tea fragrances.

very citrusy for me it’s almost on the male side so i pair with a sweeter perfume. the dry down is amazing i adore the smell

Green tea, rain soaked leaves, and fresh laundry.

Don’t let the name fool you, this isn’t a cozy teapot kind of tea scent. Monsoon, yes, tea, mmm... not a drink at all, really. This is green in the stem sense. Raw petitgrain hits first, as a bitter, oily, fragrant basket of citrus leaves. You delicately crimple a handful in your palm and press them against wet, stream-ran stone. It carries the personality of bergamot in the way it beams, except it is stripped of its softness, more sharp than mellow and more cloudy than sunny. The "monsoon tea” is less steeped and more... growing. Think of the plant itself: tangled, sun-flecked, glistening from late afternoon rainfall. You get no Lapsang steam, more the damp humidity of a zen field, more cutting petitgrain through cool fog. Green energy, wet bark, bright air, dew-slicked sleeves—is what comes to mind. The tea just fades more as the scent whisks you to a different location altogether. An aquatic habitat of lotus flowers, lukewarm moss, audible croaking and very... pond. Not a bad pond, no algae or swampy rot of course, but not a pristine koi garden either. Somewhere in between, with a few petals thrown in here there everywhere. Overall an okay atmospheric fragrance, a bit underbuilt and hinting at a journey but not really take you there. Still, I appreciate it's point of view, even if foggy.

"Monsoon Tea by d'Annam is a Oriental fragrance for women and men." Oriental? Who's writing this stuff? This is very much a citrus aromatic scent. That aside, it's a refreshing and high quality scent, centred around green tea. Lime is prominent and there's a supporting floral sweetness from the muguet. I don't detect any amber in the base, but be warned: if you find the combo of vetiver and musk to give a B.O. funk with your skin chemistry this might be a risk here. Unfortunately it did for me. I can see it smelling beautiful on the right person.

Citrusy green tea. Planty. Fresh. This perfume is not for me. It doesn't match the vibes, if you will, that I'm trying to give off. Is it a beautiful scent? Yes, absolutely. Would most people like it? I highly doubt it. To me, this perfume gives, older, mature, simplistic, all 100% natural cotton clothing vibes.

fresh lime being squeezed into green tea on a cool rainy day. i find this leans a bit masculine to be an everyday wear for me (my boyfriend said he liked it because it smelled like something he might wear) but it was super refreshing on a hot day. longevity and sillage weren’t great.

Not quite fougere, but it reads more masculine to me. I think there’s tea. If I didn’t look up the notes, I would not have guessed there is tea. I like Pomelo Oolong much better from this brand for tea fragrance.

I really like the initial spray and think its going to dry down into something more interesting but it kind of just faded more quickly than other d'annam scents or just became less noticeable

Monsoon Tea smells like the dregs of a mostly drunk green tea, almost like wet tea leaves that have been steeped too long. It's a nice fragrance, just not exactly what I was looking for.

Smells like a citrus/lime grassy like tea with a hint of sweetness. I really like it. If you are just starting to get into tea fragrances, I think this is a good start.

Slightly soapy/citris/green tea/grass. It is the weakest one out of the Vietnamese flanker. Not really my thing.
