Phu Quoc

I’m someone who typically doesn’t enjoy marine scents and this one surprised me! It’s freshly oceanic, salty and cold, but with a softly masculine touch and an underlying sweetness that makes this really charming. It smells like a handsome sailor who’s left his clean laundry out to dry along the lighthouse shore. It’s fresh, it’s clean, sweet, and salty. Would love this on a man

Sampling d’Annam Phu Quoc, inspired by the island of the same name that’s located off of the southern coast of Vietnam. It’s a nice medley of aquatic and citrus notes, including galbanum, orange flower, cedar, amber, and vetiver to give it some grounding against the more general blue/green vibe. The opening burst is unsurprisingly a little sharper and more pronounced, the sea spray in full force along with the citruses, and it dries down to a more subtle, well-blended, a bit green / aquatic / citrus blend that’s quite pleasant, albeit not especially unique. But still, it’s probably the most agreeable of the line and a nice offering in the catalogue, with good performance for a freshie. As with the rest of the line, Phu Quoc is EDP concentration, priced at $125 for 50ml, and sold via the house website as well as other retailers that contain some, but not all, of the line’s fragrances. In the case of Phu Quoc, Ministry of Scent carries it. 7 out of 10

I really enjoyed this one. I was looking for an aquatic, fresh, masculine-leaning scent for my partner to complement a deodorant that he wears that we both already like. Marine is the right word for it. I understand the comparisons to a detergent, but I guess I like that scent? It is more complex than soapy, it feels deeper and warmer than the simplicity of detergent scents. Its lasts nicely, I wore it and was able to enjoy it for an entire evening (maybe 5, 6 hours?). I don't know if I would spring for a larger bottle but will enjoy connecting with the sample I have.

Wow this is very orange-neroli centric on me. Deffo not just for men. It's quite pleasant but becomes a skin scent too quickly. A pass for me, although I like it. I have others that skew orange already. And they last longer. My second sampling from this house and although both perfumes are very nice, they don't have the longevity I'm looking for.

This scent is intensely fresh and clean smelling. It makes me think of a laundry detergent or body wash that would be called Ocean Breeze or something. I don't mean to imply it smells cheap, but that is what I tend to associate clean, aquatic smells with. It does lean ever so slightly masculine, would be great for a hot summer day.

Alright. Phu Quoc, I understand why people say cleaning detergent. But its not that bad. It was actually good. It does but it has a deeper green vegetal fragrance like capsicum. When spraying it had 4 hours of wear close to skin but I really enjoyed finding the capsicum smell layered in a citrus forward scent. I kept smelling.

Deeply saddened by their citrus and green line up. This one, like many have noted, is distinctly detergent-y. I am not sure why the angle is soapy when you are drawing inspiration from land and earth and real living greenery. This isn't even an interesting spin on soap its just plain detergent that wasn't fully rinsed out of your clothes. I guess like the others this one isn't for me. The rest of their Enchanting Vietnam set is gorgeous and evocative and unique but several of their freshies are really not hitting for me. I just don't know why their greens and citruses end so muddled and scratchy. Oh well. 5/9 isn't bad and several of those 5 have made it to my FB wishlist. And I'm intrigued enough to check out the rest of their disc sets.

On the opening you're smacked in the face with a wave of sharp, green, ocean from the bell pepper and marine notes. I'm certainly not a fan of the first hour of this - smells pretty intensely of a smooth-chested man wearing flashy sunglasses who just got of the sea and doused himself in his fav cologne. The last 2-3 hours of the frag journey I don't mind - a soft men's blue body wash type of scent. I could see my boyfriend potentially liking this, but it's just not super interesting or appealing to me.

There's something about D'annam's citrus scents that remind me far too much of general household cleaner, particularly lime. I had the same reaction to Monsoon Tea. I don't know what it is about it. The oceanic notes in this make the scent very fresh, and it dries down to quite comforting amber. But the top notes are just not for me.

I am quite picky about marine/oceanic scents, and this unfortunately missed the mark for me. I would have loved to see more ozonic notes in this. This leans a bit more soapy for me than it does marine. My brother enjoyed it however, so I gave it to him.

Green pepper laundry. It’s a nice clean scent with a slight twist but nothing crazy. Faded pretty quick on me I’d say it lasted maybe three hours until it became super super faint. To me it doesn’t lean masculine at all I’d call it a true unisex scent.

fresh, ozonic and definitely leans masculine. nothing wrong with it per se- just that i echo the same sentiment as many others, which is that you could probably grab a 5$ bottle of men's body wash from the store and get pretty much the same dna.

Reads more masculine as it smells like a glorified men’s shaving cream or after shave. It is perfectly fine; I just like very feminine fragrances.

i know it's meant to be based off of pho quoc but it just smells like generic men's body wash/fresh ocean scents at like bbw :(

The floral notes underneath makes this slightly different from the usual marine notes. Its a pleasant and easy-to-wear fragrance that will work well for office days. Imagine entering a packed lift in the morning, the passengers will probably thank you for making the lift ride more pleasant. It's a scent that makes you blend in politely, not stand out. Drydown is quite generic and synthetic though, like a car fragrance. Don't foresee this being on anyone's bucket list.

An orange-soda fizz... so effervescent it practically crackles off the skin. There’s definitely a marine vibe here, but it gets overshadowed by that sparkling, soda-like quality. On top of the sweetness, there’s also a clean, almost detergent-bright floral facet. An interesting composition, for sure, but it didn’t do anything for me. Tag(s): orange soda, marine, sweet

this one may be my least favorite from this discovery set. i think it’s the vegetal note from the bell pepper and the citrus notes. i hate to say this but it almost reminds me of a certain cleaner i use around the house. i can see how this would appeal some but i’m just not a marine fan typically. 2/5

This smelled great on paper, so similar to my friend's beach house. On skin it veered too masculine body wash, and disappeared within 5 minutes of spraying on.

Woody white florals. Man smell. Citrus. Clean, teeters on smelling like a cleaning product. Not for me, not my fave.

Mandarin and generic ocean breaze scent. No crunchy green bell pepper or galbanum unfortunetly. Quite a few from this house are shampoo/cleaning product leaning sadly

Phu Quoc The benefit of smelling a scent blindly with a name of unknown meaning is there is even less change of having subliminal suggestion color interpretation. So what am I now smelling blindly? A lot of citrus, ...and something very imprecisely minty. Alright, I'm looking at the note pyramid. ...Interesting. That green pepper is a green bell pepper. There is no capsaicin. Thank God. The salt in those marine notes is not sea salt. There is no seawater funk. Thank God. The vetiver at the base is kept to a moderate level, not overdosed. Thank God. This may actually be a green & dry salty citrus cologne that I do enjoy. It's a miracle! (Hmm, I'm beginning to get quite religious here.) That galbanum & pepper greenness + much citrus + a dust dry saltiness really does create an unusual and quite pleasing style of aromaticity (in a non-chemical sense). It doesn't literally smell 'minty', ...but does tingle one's nose in a similar way, ...and now I know, Phu Quoc is a tropical island in the Gulf of Thailand. It all makes sense, ...even if the salt note doesn't suggest the sea.

The green pepper note in the opening is incredible, when it dries down it settles to a really enjoyable yet generic fresh clean body wash scent. I agree with the comment below that says this scent does remind you of a laundry detergent or body wash that would be called 'Ocean Breeze', this is not a bad thing though, it smells great. Although we all want to find that unique smell thats a little gem that we discovered this is such an easy and really enjoyable wear.

Fragrantica and its AI slop is getting worse. The notes are, per the d'Annam discovery set: Top: Green Peppercorn, Citrus, Galbanum Heart: Oceanic Notes, Muguet, Orange Flower Base: Cedarwood, Amber, Vetiver. Note: green peppercorn has nothing to do with bell pepper - they are from completely different plant orders. (Edit: I see they've actually corrected the notes now).

Phu Quoc, by d'Annam, smells like oceanic/aquatic notes and spicy green peppercorns. This perfume is too spicy and masculine leaning, for me to wear it. It is definitely a unique scent due to that both spicy and green scent. If this is something you are searching for, it is an amazing fragrance.

This is decent clean scent. But there is not a single thing outstanding about this fragrance. Although, I think it'd be a good layering fragrance. But otherwise, this by itself is pretty mid. 4/10

This is Nio with better projection, tiny bit more synthetic, but not major difference in quality for that, Only the presentation and the name gives Nio high rating and this stays so low

Wore this on a super hot day and smelled like clean laundry. Not a challenging or complex smell, but it was nice and I would wear it again

Very similar to pho breakfast but more wet with a bell pepper/tomato leaf accord added on

Mens blue body wash. Thats all I smell.
