Spring Festival

Those dry, powdered hawthorne candy discs + a lacquered wooden heirloom box (as noted by another reviewer) that used to contain medicinal herbs. Or... a grandma who's left an incensed room to enjoy the evening air at a fruit stall at sundown on a warm night. That may not sound especially tempting to you, but Spring Festival is my #1 and there's nothing I can do about it. The scent undergoes at least 4 distinct phases throughout a day of wear and all of them are heavenly. It is inexhaustibly intriguing while still being definitely pleasant, which is what I want in a signature. Personally I feel this scent wears like a heavy veil in a way best suited to autumn, though I intend to wear it year-round.

somebody said it reminds them of dr pepper which i heavily agree on, but it's still somehow appealing to me. The opening has this fruity + citrusy orange vibe that's developed in a candy-like way. The fruits and citruses are blended into a really balanced and sweet way that reminds me of a candy. Which is why i find this similar to dr pepper. When i drank dr pepper for the first time on london, i immediately got disgusted bc how sweet and candy-ish it is, it was like drinking a fizzy syrup. This also has a fizzy vibe too! And to be honest, this was exactly what i had expected for red lime soda by strangers parfumerie. For me, this is awesome and appealing. 9.2/10

This perfume is a pleasant surprise! By looking at notes, I had no idea how this would smell like before getting it and I don't think I ever smelled jujube in perfume before. It opens up with peppery, nutty jujube with addition of fruity hint. It more resambles of dried jujube that is made into tea. Plum blossom and mandarin makes this perfume more fresh. I sense something roasted there too. It dries down to more powdery scent (I assume that would be lantern note). I am going through my sample now, but I think I will add bigger size to my collection once I am done. It is unique and different. Spicy aspect makes it more unisex. Well done!

Absolutely gorgeous artwork, it’s much warmer then described on my skin at least, if you from Sweden or have tried zoo candy from Sweden its very much alike in a beautiful way! Spicy candy warm citrusy touch and floral. It went straight up to top 3 in my around 60 fragrance collection. This and sakura snow from the same house is absolutely gorgeous. This is a must buy if you like to get your nose on something on its own.

Soooo interesting! Opens with vibrant spices, like cinnamon or cardamom or cloves, some woods but not smoky (reminds me of a lacquered/varnished wooden box). Then the mandarin comes through and mixes with all the spices. Super interesting and uplifting, like you’re in a very lively market with lots of people, movement and sounds. I would consider this an aromatic more than a floral/fresh/citrus fragrance.

Sampling d’Annam – Spring Festival, from their most recently-released Chapter 3: Majestic China, and it’s a lively blend with main notes of plum blossom, mandarin, and the most distinct pairing of jujube (red dates) and tanghulu (candied hawthorn), yielding a sort of fruity, candied, fresh, spicy floral experience that sort of does conjure being in a carnival or street festival, with excitement, food, bright and spicy aspects. I really enjoy this evocation and it marks yet another fairly unique experience provided by d’Annam in fragrance, and even though it’s not so specific to my own memories, I feel like I get the gist of it and can connect to it, even though it’s not among my very favorites of the brand’s now-extensive catalogue. It’s quite interesting and I imagine many will like it. As with the rest of the line, this is EDP concentration and currently priced at $160 for 50ml, sold in the US via the house website and great boutiques like Perfumology. 7 out of 10

Another interesting standout. This fragrance feels alive, constantly shifting as it moves from paper to skin. It’s rich, layered, and full of small changes that keep it engaging throughout the wear. What I appreciate most is its versatility, it doesn’t lock itself into one mood or identity, making it very wearable and expressive. Complex, dynamic, and quietly addictive.

I don’t know how to describe this one. I’m not sure if I like it or not. I can smell plum blossom, because I’ve smelled it in other perfumes and I definitely pick it up here. Besides that, I get candy, dry candy, almost like a lollipop, along with something powdery or even earthy. I’ve never smelled anything like this before. Would I wear it or buy a bottle? Probably not, but it’s definitely an interesting approach. It smells like something a kid would wear, or someone a bit immature for their age but with a quirky, creative, almost artsy personality.

This is interesting. Never smelt anything quite like it. I don’t get a lot the citrus. It smells almost like benzoin, anise, baby powder, healing ointment, and hard candy. A little richer and more mature than what I typically reach for, but I don’t hate this. I’m intrigued. I’m glad I have more wears left in the sample, but don’t think I would buy a full bottle. Almost like Benjoin Boheme, Angel’s Share, and Tresor had a baby. Very interesting.

This is difficult to explain. I think this is a perfumy version of a type of a Chinese traditional medicine tonic. I am not sure I get jujube and other notes. But it imparts sweetness. Not sure what I am supposed to get with red lantern. It makes me think of an exaggerated version of mountain and tree fruits and roots at traditional Chinese or Northeast Asian markets.

I appreciate the attempts to recreate the smoke of firecrackers and the tartness of the hawthornes, but I wish they tried harder. It falls flat, the notes meld too quickly into a smudge of flavors, none of the notes stand out on their own, smothered instead by a blanket of sweet powdery smoke.

Notes don't match the description as floral, citrus, fresh nor does this fit with spring. To me this is a sweet gourmand that reminds me of homemade candy or cotton candy, with notes of vanilla, cardamom and spice. Fall festival is more appropriate. It is heavier than I'd like.

i was going out with my friends and i decided to wear this, i was sure that it’s fruity, and it would perfectly match my mood. bro its spicy AS HELL. my friends didn’t like it, me either. smells like it’s a market of spicy food. does these fruits covered in syrup smell like that??? is it red dates??? HOW DOES LANTERN SMELL ??? anyway, i warned ya. little bit similar to Sandalwood Spiced Apricot by Jo Malone, i didn’t tried that one on my skin, but from my 9ml bottle it’s smells way more refined and interesting. And this, this is just a spiced mess without actual composition, not deep, it really gives nothing.

Initially, this smells like a spicy-sweet ish citrus fragrance. BUT THE DRYDOWN. It just gets progressively more and more moldy and musty smelling. It actually smells like a decaying orange covered in old lady talcum powder. Maybe this would smell good on a classy old chinese lady, but I AM NOT HER!!! At least it isn't strong, it's only super offensive if you put your nose way up to your skin. From far away, it doesn't smell all that bad tbh. Not my favorite scent from this brand. I think their gourmand fragrances are their best, if you're looking to try something from them.

Smells like flat warm Dr. Pepper with a medicinal quality. I can totally see the comparison others are making to traditional Chinese apothecary smells. Really interesting but a hard no for me.

This fragrance is so confusing. The opening was a bit fruity, but it kind of smelled like baby wipes? Not bad, but also not great. I came back to the sweater I sprayed it on about an hour later and my nose was assaulted by the strong smell of baby powder. That sweater went straight into the wash because if I had to smell it one minute longer I was going to get a headache. I'm not sure what's going on here, but I did not enjoy it.

Nice in the opening but the drydown is disappointing. Powdery yet also syrup-y and very sweet. If it was linear and stuck to the top notes I would really like it but unfortunately it's not for me 🤷🏼♀️😓

Extremely powdery, very mature & floral, a lot like traditional baby wipes. I was hoping to get some mandarin, jujube, tanghulu... something zesty or sweet or modern, but none of it's there.

It's alright. Woody and powdery floral. I really smell lemongrass too. I wish it had more spice and less smoke, and I do not smell mandarin personally. If you smell too hard, it begins to smell like air freshener of the toilet. But it's not a problem. To me this is appropriate for an experiential smell of being at a festival; it's not gross. On paper it smells like aftershave. So I recommend for a man and not a woman. This is a heavy perfume, and a rather particular scent, definitely not for everyone. Boyfriend says this is like "Echt Kolnish Wasser" German cologne. I can't agree or disagree since I never smelled that. Edit: Wore it today... ruined my day for real. The powdery notes were overwhelming and intense, elderly, nauseating, full on toilet. I will be sending it to my friend as a gag gift, literally.

I thought I would love this. I love a citrus and spicy scent. Initially I loved the way it smelled— like sunscreen and Chinese candy to me. But on the dry down, and on the clothes that I sprayed a few hours later... it just smells so powdery and cloying. It smells like a lady speed stick in powder fresh. I haven’t been able to rid the scent of it, so I guess that speaks to its longevity. But if you love powdery floral scent that last forever this is for you; but if you wanted a mandarin spring time plum blossom scent then this isn’t the one for you.

I'd have to agree with saho below... On first spray, it almost smells medicinal. Very spicy and warm in nature. It reminds me of the tonics you got at Chinese apothecaries for random health treatments, minus the bitterness. It's a sweeter, rounded medicinal smell..?? On dry down it releases more of a candied mandarin profile and a jammy quality, most likely from the jujube and plum. Not what I expected but not bad, just different.

i loved this...sweet and spicy and warm. notes which remind me of the end of a party in december. not a huge fan of citrus notes but the mandarin here is lovely and warm without being too sharp...powdery in a way i should hate but don’t, and which offsets the sweetness really nicely!! one of my faves from this collection.

In the store, it was like a citrussy tanghulu and red dates. However, got a full size for myself and my bottle projects only the spicy nuances. Hope it will get better by time, it is why I'm not gonna rate it atm but take this info in mind, the previous review was right

If you're familiar with D'annam, this smells a lot like Tokyo Nights. Spring Festival has that same thick plum note, but a bit softer and fresher without the smoke and alcohol. I like it a lot and think it'll be nice when it's super cold.

There’s a spiciness to it, reminds me a little of B9 Chinatown, with less complexity. I would wear it again (from my dab sample) just to double check. In fact I think it could be revisited in the fall, smells more like it fits there

When I initially sprayed this I thought it was very pretty with floral and fruity notes - honeydew melon, soap, & lifesavers candy... & then the dry down became a little urinal cakey. Wasn’t my cup of tea.

Opening smells like tonka cola , atleast to me . dries down slightly citrus , spicy , musky floral . Needs further testing
