Strawberry Mochi

Ohhh wowwow, this one was the least expected, but it turned out to be my favorite from the brand!! Coming from Japan, I can honestly say this is a quite realistic take on Daifuku (mochi filled with sweet red bean paste). Right after I sprayed it, I immediately smelled that soft, fluffy, slightly tangy mochi delicately wrapping the red bean paste. The mochi part even captures the white rice powder that lightly coats the outside. If you’ve ever had fresh Daifuku, you’ll know exactly what I mean! I know there are a few perfumes out there with a rice or mochi note, but this one has its unique charm. It feels tangy, slightly lactonic, and soft in the core, but the faint dusting of powder surrounds it. That subtle powdery layer gives the scent an airy, delicate texture that feels really special. As for the red bean paste, the sweetness is perfectly balanced. Just like real Daifuku, where it's sweet enough to feel delightful, but not too sweet to make you feel sick after eating them. I also somehow caught red bean skin, like in Tsubuan Daifuku, which is adding depth and texture to the composition. I don’t know how to explain it better, but to me this feels like an "earthy" kind of gourmand. It smells like something real, handmade from scratch with care, not processed or overly stylized. That being said, I didn’t pick up a strong strawberry note. Just a faint fruity touch in the background of my scent bubble (i.e. away from where I sprayed), which is making the red bean paste lighter and adding a hint of fruitiness. The strawberry itself is not in the Daifuku, but rather the aroma of strawberry is lightly infused in the paste. This is my nostalgic scent back home. Very comforting, tangy, fluffy, and yummy!! I would love to try layering this with a green tea perfume to have my afternoon tea time:) Would like to get a FB sometimes soon.

I love it, but I see why many would not. “Strawberry Mochi” fragrances are marketed to be overly sweet, creamy, and strawberry-heavy, which is why this bottle is not a safe blind buy for sure. If you’ve ever had a real strawberry mochi, it isn’t that sweet of a dessert. In fact, this perfume accurately captures the scent of a real strawberry mochi. The opening is very ricey and starch-forward (honestly hyper-realistic — wow! just like when you bite into one), and it dries down to something sweet, slightly vanilla, with a hint of strawberry and mellowed out by the red bean. I’m happy that my skin chemistry agrees with the dry-down. On me, it becomes a pleasant, sweet scent. In the dry down, it feels very “clean girl,” like I just showered with some sort of organic sweet rice body wash, and it’s lingering lol. I saw reviews that people don’t get that from this fragrance. d'Annam really takes you through the experience of eating a strawberry mochi: ricey and starchy on the outside, subtle sweetness on the inside. Really claiming back the meaning of "strawberry mochi" in the fragrance industry.

I have fallen in love with this one. It was weird and earthy right out of the bottle, and was the second perfume sample I ever bought. My first thought was "I'm not sure I'll like this". But I put a little bit on my wrist just to see how it unfolded. And wow I'm so glad I did, it's become one of my very favorite perfumes, and has opened me to the curiosity of trying any and every perfume that interests me, despite its unusual opening notes! How exciting. This one feels so warm and comforting to me, I don't get the sweetness so much as a silky smooth rice. The lightest hint of earthy strawberry sweetness, but nothing like a saccharine cotton candy or milk chocolate. I tried it because I read it described as softly sweet like kitten fur, like the scent of a clean but well-loved blanket. That's how it feels to me. I have been wearing it to bed most nights, its so comforting to fall asleep with. I love it!

my new signature scent!! it literally smells just like a mochi.. less strawberry though but that’s ok bc im more here for the mochi than the strawberry so any strawberry at all is bonus (and strawberry scents are much much more common than mochi scents so it’s nice to not smell stereotypical). it smells like rice but doughy like a photorealistic mochi, and then it transitions into the red bean paste note which is sweet like it’s vanilla’s cousin but not too sweet, and its subtle too (my mom has a sensitive nose but she loves strawberry mochi on me), and then the base notes are like. less distinctively mochi but still pleasantly-not-overly-sweet gourmand (and maybe this is where the strawberry is?) and just one spritz lasted overnight on me...

The opening gives a burst of artificial strawberry, reminiscent of a strawberry gum or candy I had as a kid that I can't quite put my finger on. The strawberry fades pretty quickly and evolves into the starchy mochi. It has a very similar dna to White Rice, but with the addition of the sugar and red bean paste making it slightly sweeter than its sister. If you're looking for a gourmand that's both savory and sweet smelling in an understated way, give this one a sample. I'm not sure if I love it, but I can't stop smelling my sleeve, so that's a good sign. EDIT: I've worn it a few more times. I'm not a fan of the artificial strawberry in opening, but I love the dry down. If it weren't for the strawberry I'd probably get a full bottle.

I was so worried about the strawberry note. Every time a fragrance claims one it always reads cheap, synthetic, and waxy. An old fruity candle from the dollar general. The fruitiness is not so clearly "strawberry" here but I think that is saving it from the same fate at the others. Brown sugar and rich red bean are a gorgeous combination (in mochi as well of course) and the chewy mochi itself, on open, is incredible. So realistic. My mouth is watering. Once again I desperately wish that warm, golden, cozy rice note stuck around longer but I'm still enamored by the dry down. I'm blown away by the Memories of Japan set and I cannot wait to layer these and give them full wears. Majestic China is calling my name. Thrilled by this house.

Starchy, thick mochi skin with a hint of a hint of a likeness of strawberry. BUT IT’S GOOD. I am not a gourmand fan at all so I really did not think I would like this even remotely. And although this is very edible, I really enjoy this! Not blind buy worthy so keep that in mind, but it’s very cozy and cool, effortless and elegant, poised and multifaceted. I recently reviewed Sesame Shower from Concreted and these do not smell similar at all obviously but this is the same vein. It’s not leaning too heavily into the clean territory with those edible notes, but it’s also not a true cloying gourmand. It’s very perfectly balanced. I’m into it! I’m very much interested in getting a full bottle!

This perfume has become my new favourite. It's definitely not the best STRAWBERRY fragrance, but it is a very good sweet rice one. I can’t really differentiate the red bean in this, it just smells much sweeter than how actual red bean treats usually taste like, even if red bean stuff is usually quite sweet. I know this is lightly based on a strawberry daifuku and I think it does it justice, daifuku ive tasted usually have a thicker layer of rice than regular mochi does. Longevity could be better but it's not horrible so I don’t mind. This is definitely does not feel like what was advertised but I honestly love whatever this is. Going to get a full bottle as soon as I can.

This one might be my favourite out of the japan discovery-set. Its this heavy filling gourmand. Don't get me wrong when i say filling gourmand, i mean; there is no space for any freshness, its all just heavy gourmand. I honestly get thirsty from smelling it. Anyways; so this smells like rice and red bean paste with something sweet in the background; so not you traditional gourmand since there is no overperforming vanilla, nor is it like a overlysweet nor a sweet at all tbh. Its hard to describe but it smells like motchi, but i dont pick up ANY strawberries, just motchi and red bean paste

Ok bare with me here, did you ever make glue from rice in the microwave as a child? Because this is exactly what this smells like but with a bit of red bean. Its that or unceremoniously sticking your nose into powdery the outside of a mochi and inhaling, hard. Hard enough that a red bean gets in your nose but its still mostly just full of powder. Absolutely no strawberry maybe a tiny bit of miscellaneous fruitiness but that's it. But yes I do like it. Would i wear it though? I probably will at some point just hard to find a situation that calls for that exact smell.

I am in love with this perfume. I had been a longtime lover of Diptyques L'eau Papier for its ephemeral rice note and found that Strawberry Mochi amplifies that note ten fold. It is truly a delicious gourmand scent that is extremely starchy and sweet with a strong opening of rice but dries down to a creamy brown sugar red bean paste. I never liked gourmands until now and I will never stop wearing it. The strawberry note is rather nonexistent and I'm okay with that because I bought it for the rice note but those who love strawberry may be disappointed.

the perfume is really warm and toasty. very reminiscent of glutinous rice, brown sugar, and vanilla. i personally don’t smell much red bean or strawberry. the bottle is really cute and shaped like an egg. with this fragrance, it’s also very intimate ... maybe it’s because my skin is on the dry side but you can smell it from a distance right when it’s sprayed but afterwards it’s only really a faint smell on the skin. the fragrance probably lasts 1-2 hours. i love this fragrance but i just wish it lasted longer.

People, i think, who are unfamiliar with red bean paste are allowing its presence as a note listed in this fragrance (along with their misunderstanding of what it tastes/smells of) to alter their experience with this stuff. This is a subtly sweet, soft scent, which projects well for that variety of perfume and laaaaaaasts. I was so pleased to find others saying it is a comfort scent, cuz that is that word that i kept think of throughout the day, whenever i was reminded that i was wearing this

I smelled this at a scent bar in LA when I visited, and I fell in love with this perfume. I thought I would like matcha soft serve more but this is just so unique and for the first time this feels like a perfume that speaks to me and feels like me. If that makes any sense. It’s not super strawberry forward just really nice starchy, powdery mochi which I honestly want people to associate me with. Strange but I really want a full bottle of this and maybe find some other mochi like perfumes.

This is another mind-blowing realistic scent from D'Annam. The initial spray smells like Mochi covered in rice flour, then the adzuki bean paste with it's slightly floral note comes up and made me feel like I am really having a mochi in front of me. I can only sense a tiny bit of strawberry, it's not the artificial overpowered strawberry but a slight hint of sweetness from forest strawberries. Unfortunately like Matcha Soft Serve the longevity is very poor. Especially given the price.

Ohhh I’ve just found a new favourite!! I got the sample along with Dedcools mochi milk and this is by far my fav of the two. It sprays down heavy with the red bean and strawberry, yet it’s not super sweet till it dries. It smells exactly like cooked hot strawberry mochi. Starchy, warm, and so yummy. I do personally layer it with dedcools mochi milk to give it a sweeter scent on occasion but it is amazing by its own, and layered with a good lotion + body oil it’ll last all day

It’s been a long time since I was in love and exited about perfume. This is so pretty. Reminds me a lot of Freckled and Beautiful by Lab on Fire but Strawberry Mochi is much more pleasant and softer. It doesn’t have that smoker note I catch in F&B sometimes. Absolutely in love, got a full bottle and can’t wait to wear it more for spring. The scent is gourmand floral, Rice Krispies, or some baked wheat biscuits with floral notes that gives the perfume sophistications.

The strawberry comes out later in the dry down, but of course, the starchy fluffiness of the rice accord is the main attraction here. It’s stunningly realistic and projects just enough to get pleasant wafts of it throughout the day. The dry down does turn out to be a more typical vanilla and brown-sugar-covered strawberry, but again, it’s fluffy and pleasant, and I would say fairly worth the price tag for the novelty and the funky bottle!

This really does smell like biting into a powdery, pillowy pink mochi ball filled with red bean paste. Sweet, but light enough for the warmer months. It’s the kind of treat you can’t help but inhale in two bites right after the grocer checks you out. Very nostalgic for me, as mochi was my preferred treat after a long day of college classes. It’s a “good job. You did it. Here’s a reward.” scent. And who doesn’t need a bit of that?

a strawberry daifuku dream! i love the photorealistic mochi, it has a really pleasant lightness that you don't get with a lot of mochi/lactonic scents but still contains a lot of depth and texture. the strawberry is (as everyone else has been saying) not super forward, but adds a nice freshness and fruity sweetness that elevates the scent a lot. the opening of this fragrance was vaguely floral on my skin, which i really enjoyed!

People are correct in saying there really is no strawberry notes to be detected and they would be 100% correct. I did not smell any strawberry but the rice and red bean paste were a pleasant scent to me. I feel if you layered it with a good strawberry perfume then it could be the perfect STRAWBERRY mochi experience. For now it is very much just mochi which is a lovely warm, comforting scent that I surprisingly like.

This fragrance is starchy & sweet! You get the slightest hint of strawberry but not in the traditional artificial way that some fragrances lean toward. Imagine the real fruit just slightly in the background. D’Annam excels at these photorealistic scents (Matcha Soft Serve too!). As the wear time goes on, it becomes a soft blanket of sweetness. It’s so cozy and one I’ll be reaching for in Autumn.

White Rice from d'Annam's last collection had no staying power on me, but since then I was craving a starchy, rice-forward fragrance. So far, this does what I wanted White Rice to do, plus the added benefit of some sweetness from the vanilla and strawberry. I really love the savory take on vanilla that this accomplishes. Smells divine layered over a sweeter, nuttier body lotion, as well.

Very delicate, savory with powdery sweetness. The rice and red bean paste are strong in the first spray, and in the dry down, the strawberry and a very sheer musky vanilla peek through, as the brown sugar dissipates. I genuinely love this, it's feminine and elegant mochi. Not sickly sweet, and not playdough-ey. I'm excited to continue wearing this!

This one is red bean ice cream all the way! I get very little strawberry. They should have named this red bean ice cream bc as it develops, it continues to smell like red Ben ice cream throughout, doesn’t change at all on me. Frankly, I’m enjoying this very much! Don’t buy this if you want a strawberry hit.

strawberry mochi reminds me of sticky rice and red bean mochi. i love how this perfume is sweet but still remains very rice forward. it lasted around 4 hours on my skin and lasts for only a bit longer on clothing. i loveeee d'annam and this perfume is one of my favs from them

it starts a bit bitter but it quickly turns in a starchy goodness. heavily smells like cozy and freshly made daifuku but nothing like strawberry mochi, I even find the strawberry to be inexistent, which I love. a total red bean-y and starchy daifuku that dries down floral.

My favourite perfume that I have not yet bought. Smells photorealistic, FINALLY a gourmand that isnt super sugary, slightly sweet and just right. I smell the strawberry note, it’s just not overall synthetic/candy-like, it’s more subtle and realistic. Next perfume im buying

I have it and like it. But, as another reviewer wrote, it is a lot like the more recently released Mooncake. I tried both on different arms, and I prefer the Mooncake....less sweet. But I already own Strawberry Mochi. I think it is hard to justify buying both.

This is one of the most unique fragrances I’ve ever smelled. It’s sweet and cozy without being overly fruity, and somehow really does smell like strawberry mochi. It’s very starchy but also light and clean. One of my favorite fragrances!

Extremely photorealistic. If you’re expecting strawberry to be in your face this is not that. I enjoy this fragrance a lot, it reminds me of my childhood eating red bean mochi or tteok. Would love to wear this fragrance to bed.

If you're asian you know this perfume is on point in capturing the glutinous rice. Reminds me of leau papier with a touch of sweetness. Rice perfection. People complaining about the rice scent just haven't smelled mochi before

Starchy and very realistic ichigo daifuku, you can really smell the rice flour and red bean paste. Slight sweetness peeking through from the strawberry. Modestly sweet just like traditional Japanese confectionery.

I'm surprised. It smell a lot like almond pastries from Algeria. Not overly sweet. There is a lot of stuff to it, but very feminine and special love it.

It gives red bean paste with a lot of sugar and a bit of mochi on my skin. Very interesting, very unusual.

This is White Rice's spirited little sister. Strawberry Mochi boasts a distinctly Asian sweetness paired with a nostalgic albeit ambiguously artificial strawberry. It captures the sensation of that first bite into a Family Mart mochi after a tiring day working-- I can practically feel the rice flour on my fingers, the finely-milled powder squeaking against my teeth, rogue dust floats into my nose, and the crinkle of the cellophane packaging announces my delight. I debated buying this for weeks but decided not to in the end. Despite its photorealism, it still feels childish and naive. It lasts long enough on my skin to be an uplifting nighttime scent after a particularly grown up day, but not to the extent that I'd need a full bottle to make this a regular ritual. One spritz is enough to bring joy-- any more and the artificiality passes that critical threshold where a semi-sweet treat spoils your appetite. Having said that, this would be a remarkably inoffensive gift.

This is probably the most 'perfumey' fragrance in the set. It’s like a synthetic but pleasantly sweet, fruity and maybe even flowery mall perfume with a strangely realistic savoury note. I’m a little torn because it is quite pretty but the starchy notes give off this savoury twang at first that leans into a slightly cloying and unwearable territory for me personally (take that with a grain of salt though bc it is currently summer!!) .. it is a gourmand, it does smell like food and despite it all I definitely appreciate its imagery of strawberry mochi..this is a fun scent! and if you’re a gourmand enjoyer or someone who likes a rice/ starchy note then I can’t recommend this enough! Over time it has become a little smoother, a gentle sweet vanilla rice starch with a wisp of strawberry. I’ve definitely become more partial to it now Not something I plan on wearing too often but I really did enjoy this one :) maybe one to revisit in the colder months

This does not play around. It says mochi, and you get mochi. If you're not accustomed to the scent of red bean paste, you might be startled. I love it in desserts and had never smelled it in a perfume before. The strawberry is a background player to these notes. It's definitely interesting, and out of all of the discovery set, this was my husband's favorite on my skin. It doesn't suffer as strongly from the same curse of this brand: it actually lasts more than 2 hours. It's only 5 hours, and that's max with it being a skin scent at hour 5, but it stretched that far on arguably too many sprays. So, I'm probably not getting anything from this brand at that price point if I have to overspray to achieve anything. But still, a really remarkable, lovely scent. If you have the money for it, by all means! Especially if you love mochi and red bean paste.

I agree that the strawberry is too weak and the perfume fades a little fast HOWEVER it most definitely smells like Mochi and the bottle is incredibly cute (and very droppable). The notes and longevity/sillage from the other users is pretty spot on, nothing for me to add there. This is the combo I do to *actually* smell like strawberry mochi (and have been complimented as such): 2 sprays of Kayali Yum Boujee Marshmallow, 4 sprays of Strawberry Mochi. Now the smell of strawberry mochi will last for a good 5 hours. I have also now procured One Day's Taipei and will be adding a spray of that on top for good measure because I am not beating the over-spraying allegations. I understand that it is not ideal to be using 2-3 perfumes to smell like the name of this perfume but I have yet to find another perfume that recreates mochi as well as this one.

I tried this on today and surprisingly really liked it by the end. I'll preface this review by saying I'm not super familiar with mochi (that is to say, I don't think I've ever had properly made mochi) so this isn't my favorite dessert or anything. I've only had red bean paste in doryaki so I also can't speak to how accurate that is. It smells like sweet fruity rice, sort of fruity pebbles or trix-esque if you're American. As the scent dries down, it becomes a sweet brown sugar-flour scent. I honestly like the dry down better than the opening! I'm going to try to get this when it's on sale.

There is a gentleness to this fragrance that is truly alluring. A soft, sweet, and calm sort of vibe. The sweetness in this comes from the vanilla as I get no strawberry whatsoever but, I don't really mind that too much. This smells like plain, fresh mochi with a generous dusting of rice powder. A very delicate, sweet, rice forward scent that sticks close to the skin. Fluffy and comforting. There is a slight difference in the initial spray and dry down, but it's so minute that I hesitate to add. It becomes a bit more sharp yet remains pleasant. Grateful for D'Annam for this one.

Starchy, earthy and sweet. I really like it. Rice and red bean are what I smell initially, which is where I think some people are getting "savoury" from, but it's definitely sweet to me. The molasses-y scent of the brown sugar is sweet, but kept in check by the rice and red bean. The strawberry and vanilla are there but pretty light in comparison to the other notes. I really like it as a unique gourmand. It does dry down and read a bit soapy white floral, but the initial notes are still there enough for me to enjoy.

As a lot of people noted, it's not a strawberry-forward scent. Having said that, it's a delicious starchy mochi scent that dries down into a more vanilla-adzuki bean mochi sweetness. I like the perfume for the starchy rice scent rather than the strawberry dessert it's trying to replicate. If you want a more fragrant forward rice scent and was disappointed in how lowkey white rice was (as I was), this might not be a bad call.

I definitely get the strawberry note in the opening, but it’s only slightly there in the dry down. The overall scent is starchy (more so than White Rice) and sweet. I think this is my favorite starchy scent I’ve tried. (I’ve tried L’Eau Papier, White Rice, Crumb Couture, Jany, Sunday) it’s not a super artificial strawberry like something like Burberry her elixir. It’s more of a seemingly natural strawberry.

The opening is a beeping, ready, rice cooker lifting while the smell hits you right in the face. After it settles, the sweet, almost almond-like red bean notes take priority and make this scent feel pleasantly comforting. I would have preferred the strawberry note to be more prominent as it's a bit too subtle for me to discern. If you love authentic mochi, this is perfect for you!! I really liked this one

if you want to smell special and want to try out d'annams perfumes, get this one! longevity is in contrary to the other scents way better and ive never smelled a scent like this on a perfume!! the red bean paste smells photorealistic in this one and theres absolutely no strawberry in this. maybe the faintest hint of strawberry flavoring.. other than that, i would loooove to smell like this :)

as others have said, smells solely of red bean and mochi/glutinous rice !! no strawberry whatsoever and i feel like that freshness would have made this perfume absolutely PERFECT - but without it, it misses the mark for me :( it also has something about it that reminds me a bit of incense? it's alright to sniff but probably wouldn't wear it regularly and definitely wouldn't buy a full size.

Barely sweet smell of bean paste. Powdery and soft. Captures mochi so nicely! I don’t really get any strawberry, but honestly, that’s a good thing for me since I’m not into strong strawberry notes. Definitely one for people who like rice or subtle gourmand scents without too much sweetness. Just make sure to test it on skin first it smells pretty different compared to paper.

when i smell from the bottle it’s photorealistic, starchy sweet red bean. on my skin for the first hour it projects strongly white florals, which is confusing considering the notes. after that it settles into a sugary, starchy, softer floral. you smell the strawberry more the longer it marinates on the skin. i really enjoy it once i get past that weird first hour.

a little floral, very glutinous, and the smell of strawberry skin. i don't particularly love this scent, it's a bit too doughy in a sense and i kind of wish i got the matcha soft serve one which i smelled and was really pretty. but i do like the rice note, it smells a bit like when you wash rice, and the water itself is cloudy and has a distinct scent.
