Iris Altesse

Between Danner & Flemming's 2026 Iris Poulsard, Altesse, & Trousseau, here's my ranking and notes from my first sampling: 1. Altesse - The most wearable and widely appealing of the three, it's definitely fresh, airy, and lively, with the iris and tuberose/jasmine shining through, giving it a youthful and eager vibe. Altesse seems to project a bit more than the other two. 2. Poulsard - Perhaps the most interesting and complex of the three, it's warm and got notes of spice and dry fruit along with a slightly different powdery iris note, and I definitely get the raspberry in the opening! It's got more of a mature, gourmand, sexy vibe than Altesse, but I can't yet say which of the two I like better. 3. Trousseau - The least appealing to me of the three, Trousseau tiptoes the line between baby powder and bug spray, that is to say, definitely not my favorite. Trousseau also seems to be the weakest projecting & shortest lasting of the three.

It seems that there is a new trend in perfumery of focusing on one single raw material (possibly with an out of ordinary quality) and of realizing scents around it. It is a good idea because this allows the user to understand the construction of the perfume around the single ingredient. Danner & Flemming chose the iris and started a project whose interesting details can be found on their webpage. Here for reason of brevity I will only focus on the scents themselves. They are all well executed; there is certainly a lot of conceptual work involved and my opinion here reflects my taste. Iris Altesse: this one took me by surprise, in a good way; it is an iris floral. Quite powdery and not very rooty, this transparent iris accompanies and tight up a beautiful festive bouquet of orange blossom, jasmine, and rose with a suggestion of a tubereuse (abstract, I would say). There is a slight sourness from the blackcurrant (good!), but what impresses me is all the effervescence of the scent. It really sparkles. Fragrantica does not mention Galbanum; but it plays a central role in the composition, without being overpowering. Do not expect another Chanel 19; This is not a cold scent and it is very wearable in springtime. Worn today (context: 29 degrees, windy, fresh out of the shower). Sprayed about 1.5 ml of the 3 ml sample in the discovery set. In the air a faint but beautiful iris, white florals detected only if I pressed my nose on the skin. Definitely no tuberose to my nose, just jasmine. The faintest trail (caught a whiff in the air when I looked behind for a sec). Lasted on my skin for 3 hours, then it disappeared completely. Not worth the price tag from my experience. Iris Poussard is the most original out of the three. Trousseau in second position, it needs to be sprayed on skin else you get absolutely nothing, then it becomes a woody, powdery, enveloping iris (zero points for originality).
