Delicate Essence

I just received a full bottle of DY Delicate Essence after sampling two years ago. I loved this from the first time I ever sniffed it. DYDE never was on the very top of my list to seek out as it could have been winter when I tested it. But I have wanted a full bottle for (like I said) two years. It is spring now and I am sooo glad I have it. The peony is beautiful! It takes me to a warm outdoor tranquil springtime place in my mind when I smell this. The fragrance makes me feel happy, calm, relaxed and just plain satisfied with life. I personally do not smell sour or mothballs in this at all as someone stated. I tried my hardest to sniff it out and got nothing of the sort but of course, to each his own sniffer. At first blast I get peony. Lots of gorgeous soft peony with an ever so slightly hint of sweetness. Nothing is ever cloy or nose burning at all. This is gentle, soft and with a great sillage. As it settles, the rose begins to slip in WITH the peony. Oh gosh this is so gorgeous! The musk and pepper are so very far in the background that they are almost not there...but yet are. The peony/rose florals definitely takes center stage in "Delicate Essence" (which is a perfect name). As for the other notes in the list...I only smell what I just described. I do however get a very very slight hint of synthetic. I have to cram my nose into my arm and sniff so deep I nearly pass out to even get a hint of it. No one else could smell that forsure. Delicate Essence (for me) was so worth purchasing! I just wish I hadn't waited so long to get it. This fragrance is absolutely gorgeous! My husband loves it too :D

I got this as a free sample when I bought a big pile of other samples, so I was kind of already equating the price with how nice it was going to be. I am pleased to be wrong. This is not the most complex or interesting perfume I've ever smelled, but it is really very pleasant. It is soft, clean and yes, delicate. I get rose and what smells to me like lily of the valley, maybe a combination of the lotus and the peony? It didn't change much on my skin, the musk just got slightly more prevalent. This is a simple scent, but that is what I like about it. You can't wear heels every day. (At least I can't!) Edit: When my 5 year old smelled this, she said "It smells like a flower fairy!". She's right, and I mean that in a flattering way :)

I adore this scent and am glad I bought a backup bottle back before they discontinued it as it’s now a couple hundred dollars on eBay. It’s fresh and clean rose soap to my nose. Like fresh out of the shower with a luxurious rose soap. Lots of peony also add to the springy fresh floral vibe. Office safe, spring picnic appropriate, daytime brunch in a sundress kind of scent. I have a full bottle that I’m very cautiously using this spring because, as much as I love it, I’m not dropping that kind of cash to get another bottle!

Cheap, blind buy and I really love this. You must REALLY love rose to wear this. If L'eau d'Issey Issey Miyake and Versace Baby Rose were to mate, the result would be this. On my skin I don't get any woods, which I was bummed about. What I do smell is a bed of aquatic roses, roses and more roses with a tiny sprinkle of spice, oh and did I mention roses? This will be lovely come Spring!

This synthetic mothball note people keep mentioning is AMBERGRIS. A shit ton of ambergris folks. This is salty as hell. It goes on rose floral and some peony then ambergris central. Nice and salty. Then the florals again then the ambergris then they meld together. A nice summer scent.

This smells amazing, and it has a great lasting power. I sprayed it last night before I went to bed, and today when I had to uber my driver could smell it on me. I love the smell of this perfume and I am definitely buying a full bottle immediately.

Just got this perfume and I am loving it! The pink pepper hits me right away. Now that I've read that it is a softer version of the original, I'm off to buy it- sillage is medium but longevity is not great- I see myself using a LOT of this

I find this one frustrating, not necessarily in a bad way though. I know that sounds odd but I typically avoid straight florals like the plague because they all remind me of that 'old lady perfume' (sorry but its true). I'm sure some will disagree with me but this one sits right on the edge of old lady perfume but something in it keeps it just barely in the youthful range. Theres also something really familiar about it but I just cant place it, I know another reviewer mentioned the rose wasn't overly standout so maybe thats it? It does do a good job of not letting one note overwhelm the others, which is normally the rose and here the rose is another note instead of the overwhelming main feature. I think overall its a good choice for younger women like maybe meet the parents kind of thing, classy but not older than you are. But its also a nice general spring/summer fragrance. I completely agree with a lot of other reviewers, its very light. UPDATE: oh my god its Versace Bright Crystals. THAT'S why its so familiar, the peony, lotus, exact same base notes. This has some orange blossom flower, where Bright Crystals has the yuzu and pomegranate. So they're not exactly the same but for some reason Imust be ppicking up a lot of those flowers, because they smell very similar. Again, not exact, but very similar.

There was a time when I didn't like this perfume, but as is often the case, I came across my sample and tried again. Now I like it. It is not the rose water rose scent which I can't wear. Nor is it candied or rose absolute, it manages to be a genuine garden worthy rose. A warm and sweet one. Think of a David Austin that rides the line between "perfumey" and edible. If you are a fan of Marc Jacobs Oh Lola there's a good chance you will enjoy Delicate Essence. It's different and may need to grow on you, but if it does, you will be happy you found it.

I got a sampler of The Essence Collection and I have to disagree with the two reviews above. I thought I would prefer the Fresh, but actually the Delicate is my favorite. It reminds me of a more sophisticated Amazing Grace. On me, it's slightly sweet to begin but dries down to a clean and comforting depth with the pink pepper and amber. But the staying power is amazing, which I think accounts for the cost. I recommend getting the three-pack sampler, available very reasonably on auction websites.

This fragrance is nice, but I feel that it's been done many times before. It's a slightly sweet, almost fruity, floral. It reminds me a little bit of Chloe, but not as musky and with a just a touch of aquatic notes to it. But it's definitely not an aquatic. I really like it, but at the same time it is not unique enough for me to purchase. I like David Yurman's original fragrance better.

It's a light, watery rose that is very similar to Bvlgari Rose Essentielle, but Blvgari's has better silage. Longevity is pretty decent...a few hours at best. I find all of David Yurman's Essence fragrances to be very light. The would be good for a spring day, but if I had to choose I would go with Rosé Essentielle.

Meh. A soft floral but not so much rose. Nothing unique or complex and a disappointment at this price point.

It truly lives up to its name, Delicate. It’s an aquatic floral fragrance. The rose blends with lotus 🪷creating a fresh, uplifting floral scent. At first spray, you notice alcohol and a spicy kick of pepper, but give it some time — the lotus adds a watery, cucumber-like note, which I’m not a huge fan of. Still, it’s very uplifting and fresh for summer. I was at Marshall's and couldn't decide between this or the Fresh. Based on the reviews, I picked this...and it smells a lot like the Royal Apothic English Rose (not in the database here) that I had to get rid of because I found it cloying. I'm not sure what it is, but the combination of the peony and rose enhances the rose in such a way that I dislike. The first spray is actually OK, but the middle and drydown bother me. That being said, if I did like this type of rose scent I would say that it's a good deal if you can get it cheap. It's not too heavy and very soft as other reviewers have mentioned. At the same time, it's kind of generic and not memorable for me. Nonetheless, it's a safe enough work scent which was I was looking for.

I would have loved this fragrance, had it not been for the underlying moth ball note. Shame.

Same classic DNA structure of the David Yurman line. This flanker smells more romantic than the original and some of the flankers. It's essence first hits me with the smell of rose - lily of the valley and peony. This is a softer more delicate version of the original, without the sparkling high end dental tooth polish smell that happens when you first spray David Yurman women's perfume in the original gold bottle. There is a slight ozonic hairspray/shampoo type vibe to this pink juice variety that I don't detect in the original gold bottle DY perfume. I'm sampling this along side three other David Yurman perfumes -- and yes, each of these have enough differences where they each become a different expression of the same type of DNA, unique to themselves -- but sharing a common chord of fragrance notes which would together - make them a unique perfume signature. David Yurman Gold Bottle Original Formula -- the more expensive perfume wears slightly more bright, loud, effervescent than the pink bottle, Delicate Essence. The original gold bottle has a decidedly "Champagne" type quality to it where the perfume bubbles up to the surface and is fairly reactionary with the skin. Delicate Essence comes across more like the younger sister or possibly daughter of the original. It is definitely a softer, more floral, more romantic - pastel version of the original. The quality of Delicate Essence is like a baby lotion - more powdery type finish. Both are beautiful fragrances on the skin. Both would have a place in your wardrobe if you really like this type of DNA. David Yurman Fresh Essence (Green Juice) - is closest to the Gold Bottle Original Formula David Yurman. This is slightly more green and fresh vibe than the original gold bottle formula - but has a similar potency, silage, and aura of the original without the high end dental polish smell that makes the original more effervescent. I have had this perfume for about six years and I compare this a lot to Cabotine, which is another green fresh fragrance with a decidedly carnation type smell. This wears more casual and outdoorsy than the original - or the Delicate Essence (pink juice) variety. David Yurman Exotic Essence - this shares the David Yurman perfume DNA, but takes the chord and moves this to a more autumnal, woodsy type vibe. There is a depth to this formula that adds more grounding and makes this a better choice for more business or formal events. This is the formula that would be the closest to being unisex because the depth could easily be worn by a woman or man without leaning more towards being a super feminine perfume - or with notes that would make it perceived as a more masculine cologne. It walks the line in the middle between feminine and masculine and does this in a way where it becomes neutral, but still sensual. There is a subtle sexiness in the smell of this that really draws me in. It isn't an overtly provocative perfume that smells like you are wearing this to a club to announce that you are in the mood to find a mate...this is more like library books used in a photo behind a self portrait or selfie to announce that hey, I'm well read -- well educated and I like to connect with people in a way where we share knowledge and hang out. There's a stability to this perfume that feels well grounded, like a beautiful tree that has withstood the test of time. This is a great perfume for your wardrobe that falls into the same type of niche and vibe that Knowing by Estee Lauder has, similar to the same range as First. This has an upper class vibe to it with a nod towards outdoorsy. The woods in this are beautiful, like taking a walk through the woods at the turn of autumn. I can smell the turning of the leaves in this perfume. There is a truth worthiness to this perfume which would be well grounded for business meetings. This goes on strong to start with, I would spray an hour before the meeting and let this one breathe out like a fine bottle of wine! ------------- Update: This is one of this perfumes that is very fresh, clean, and smells as if you had just stepped out of the shower...a kind of "soapy" type clean. I love this one too, although this is a softer variety than the original, the Fresh Essence, and certainly - the Exotic Essence. Peony and rose are the notes that this resonates with after wearing about 30 minutes. This definitely fits the gap in your fragrance wardrobe when you are seeking something light, clean, and fresh. If you really like this fragrance, I would also recommend trying Avon's Prima (the one in the pink ballet type bottle). It wears similar, but with different notes. Both are soft and romantic, clean smelling... lovely on. (I ordered the purple DY earlier this year, and it was barely scented. I tried this several years ago and it appears that it had been watered down).

David Yurman's Delicate Essence is actually quite pretty, a fragrance I don't mind wearing every now and then. I find it best suited to Spring and Summer wear due to it being so light and fresh. Delicate Essence doesn't smell too rosy to my nose. I can detect peony and lotus as this fragrance's most dominant notes. The scent overall is rather clean, like a bar of floral scented soap. I enjoy this fragrance the most when I apply it straight after a shower. It's extremely pleasant and easy to wear. Even those that dislike wearing perfume may enjoy Delicate Essence in small doses. As someone that isn't a huge fan of peony, this subdued representation is rather nice. The drydown is clean yet also quite musky. This in turn softens Delicate Essence to a point that it resembles nothing more than a skin-scent. With that being said, I really don't mind this fragrance's softness. Delicate Essence has light sillage and average longevity. This fragrance and others in the Essence series can be found rather cheap online. Not bad for such an inexpensive price.

I've reached the bottom of my generous-sized sample vial of David Yurman DELICATE ESSENCE, so it is time at last to issue a verdict. In fact, to my nose this perfume is a very common peony fragrance which I feel that I've sniffed many times before with only slight variations in the accompanying notes. The pink pepper in this composition is very light, as is the lotus, so really the peony is the star of the show, with a few small rose buds humming softly in the background. I am not an aficionado of peony perfumes, many of which actually make me sick. So the good news is that DELICATE ESSENCE is wearable by me, while many peony perfumes are not. The bad news is that it's just not very interesting. DELICATE ESSENCE reminds me of the Jil Sanders Style Pastel BLUSH PINK perfume, which also conveys a sort of vague florality, although I prefer the Jil Sanders--probably because the flowers used are more appealing to me. If you tend to like inoffensive, somewhat generic floral perfumes, this one should suit you just fine. As for me, I'll have to pass.

This is a lighter version of the original David Yurman - almost as if they have watered it down and reduced its potency to a more tolerable level. Gone are the screeching high notes that I objected to when I first smelled the original David Yurman fragrance. They have resolved that in this fragrance by omitting any fragrance notes that would appear "too Loud"-- and have softened this to a level where you could easily wear this to the office or to a more tightly packed space, such as a meeting, movie theater, concert hall, classroom, etc... This reminds me of Estee Lauder's Pleasures, which seems to be a slightly watered down version of Beautiful with some other florals picking up the high notes.

Purchased recently I don't know what peony smells like. This smells like rose to me. It opens similar to the Clinique fragrances such as Happy etc It comes close to Crabtree and Evelyn Rosewater in the middle And at the bottom is a rose note, or at least what I call a rose! If you have to associate it with a season, it would be Spring, I see Easter, billowy dresses, garden parties and so on It is a very pretty fragrance Since I just bought it, I wear now in winter and enjoy. Why wait till Spring?

Just tried this this morning. It IS very similar to Bright Crystal but I think more so to Tommy Girl. Its very sweet/rose and I also smell lily and lotus. There is a bit of pepper, Im not sure I like the pepper-rose combination...its pleasant but a bit too sweet for my tase. Stella McCartney for a rose more suited to what Im looking for. Im not a huge fan of Tommy Girl. I was hoping for more of a true rose scent or maybe a hazy rose. I still think its a nice scent but I will try Stella instead.

When I was a little girl, my Mother used a bar soap called CASHMERE BOUQUET. I do not know in reality if Delicate Essence smells the same as the soap. But I sprayed this fragrance on my wrist, took a sniff and got instantly transported to a sunny August morning, standing in my mothers steamy pink bathroom, surrounded in the scent of her bath soap. It seems my subconscious is telling me that they smell alike.

Delicate Essence by David Yurman should not be missed by peony lovers! It starts out quite astringent, but give it a chance to develop as the crisp aquatic notes of the lotus blend with the very fresh pink roses and a clean inoffensive musk. This is a very fresh floral, it is not sweet or complex – very office appropriate for when you want to appear polished and put together!

I sampled this a few months ago and I think it smells good, but it is strikingly similar to Escape by Calvin Klein. If you like Escape by CK, then you'll like this. Not sure which is more expensive. I'd rather go with the original, Calvin Klein.

just got the large bottle in box. it has a lot floral notes, but had to wait to the drydown for the scent to become wearable. not for me would be willing to trade for something else! just not me.

This stuff smells so amazing! Nice musk with colorful floral tones. I used date this lady that wore this back in 2018. This scent used to be like $30 but I see it's over $100 now!!!!! WOW

A rose version of Bright Crystal. Top notes are different though, and there is a lot of rose (Mai Rose I think), but once the rose tapers down, you have Bright Crystal.

I smelled it on a friend. But I found it to be too floral for my taste. Sillage was good though. Will like to try the other versions.
