Cool Water is an Iconic perfume My story: Well, how to make my story straight. When I was in late 80s/early 90s all the Bdays, Magic Kings(Spanish tradition for kids) was involved about perfumes. At that time Cool Water advertisement was in every where: magazine, newspaper and tv spots. One day in a shop a just saw that beautiful bottle and I smelled and it was the most pleasefully aromatic ever smell before(and after). Just give me the feeling that I am in a deep ocean sailing with the Sun in front on me. Never ever I smell an aquatic scent like this, literally never. Years later as an adult working as a business man early in the new millennium every single day I was buying a perfume: Dolce&Gabbana pour homme, Le Male, 212 sexy, Aqua di Gio, but all the time I was inside of the stores to decide which one to buy always I was testing Cool Water to get that deep rich aromatic perfume that transport me to the sea, to make me escape from the city(I'm from Madrid where there is not beach) and make me feel calm, relax and keep going for the rest of the day, but always I thought "is very cheap, I will have a chance to buy later, no worries"...but never happens. Now, living in Japan I discovered this gem in Mega Donki, I tested several times even if in the same self are selling Sauvage Dior, Pi by Givenchy, Platinium Egoiste, no one of them caught my attention more than Cool Water and finally in 2025 when all this journey to bring back my memories, to buy a bulk of perfumes as I was doing when I was a kid started with Cool Water. My thoughts: Cool Water is definitely the ONE you need for summer: clean, inoffensive, bold, personality and not mature, not too young, perfect timing. Is very versatile and you can use for a Gym, walking in a lazy day, casual meeting and night time where definitely shining more the breeze of night and evoke a mysterious way. Unfortunately the new reformulation has nothing to do with the oldest one that you can even use confident in Winter and keep with the aroma for almost all day but now is only a summer version and is very very weak, in just 2/3 hours is done. My recommendation is spray 10 times including your clothes, not too much and no one is going to to call 911 to report you for air contamination. For the new Generations: If you are here reading this is because you searching this gem, means you know the value of this perfume and I highly recommend you to buy for several reason: history, iconic, versatile, amazing. If you are in the wave of "blue perfumes" and you already has Bleu de Chanel, Sauvage, Dylan Blue and Polo Blue you MUST to get this one, is the origin of all of them, the father that inspire and invented the word "blue" for a perfumes. Time for review number 100 and there was only one fragrance that could mark this milestone: Davidoff Cool Water, released in 1988 by Pierre Bourdon. Normally I break down notes in my reviews, but for this one, it doesn’t need it. This is a legendary, timeless fragrance that has earned its place in history. In simple terms it’s clean, masculine, sporty, and aquatic with that classic aftershave vibe. It reminds me a lot of Green Irish Tweed since they were perfumed by the same person, but Cool Water is much more affordable and widely available. The opening is fresh with mint and lavender, the heart brings in geranium, and it warms up in the dry down with old fashioned musks. Cool Water stands among the classics such as Drakkar Noir, Aspen, and many others. My father owned a bottle of it, and his father ended up owning one as well. That history alone makes it special, but beyond that, this fragrance helped me develop my preference for aquatic scents and really sparked my passion for exploring fragrances in general. You can find Cool Water almost anywhere, Walmart, Target, department stores, small fragrance shops in strip malls, fragrance discounters, or even in your uncle’s cupboard. That’s how much weight it carries. I have smelled other fragrances and even soaps that try to imitate it, but nothing comes close to the original clean, fresh smell. It could perform a little better, but for the price it hardly matters. I do regret not picking up more of the flankers when they were easier to find in the early 2000s. Even now, discovering them reminds me how influential this fragrance has been. If I smelled it for the first time today, I might not feel the same way, but its history, its place in the fragrance world, and the way it shaped my journey make it impossible not to appreciate. And it makes me happy reading other reviews to see that there is still a large number of people appreciating this fragrance almost 40 years later. Generic maybe, but it is the fragrance that set the standard for clean scents and inspired so many others. My eighth grade year was distinguished by several memorable events. My first girlfriend, Jurassic Park in theaters, and the great cologne wars of Edna Hill Middle School. The superpowers were the Cool Water faction and the Aspen collective. Usurpers and smaller bands of Preferred Stock, and Gravity adherents were to be found but this was truly a battle of Fougeres. Blue and green. Our homerooms were awash in the oversprayed underwashed masses of boys on the verge of adolescence with teachers and the young sunflower drenched girls as our casualties. Aspen in its mighty mint green apple opening and lavender heart was such an easy one to enjoy. Not to be outdone the marine coolness and lavender top notes of cool water smelled refreshing as a drink on a hot day. Our battlegrounds, I like to believe smelled as the Creed lab that created Green Irish Tweed would have before its perfection. I, Union aficionado that I am, wore the blue. I believed that Cool Water was simply more interesting to smell. After middle school I denied Cool Water as Peter did Jesus. I thought it cheap and outdated, unwilling to be associated with such a fragrance I denounced it roundly. 20 odd years later, while in law school, I finally came home. While cologne shopping with my girlfriend I saw the simple blue bottle and black cap at the Macy's counter and thought for old times sake I would give it a sniff. And there I stood transplanted to the heart of the nineties remembering why I enjoyed fragrances to begin with. Because it is the piece of clothing that when it fits, is the most proper of all. This fragrance is very popular so i dont have to talk about notes etc...i find it nice in the latest formulation but i have to say that the older formulas are better. I have a bottle from the Lancaster period, white label on the box and short list of ingredients: it smells Amazing! And yes, it is very similar to my beloved green irish tweed. The old cool water and g.i.t. (recent formula ) are similar at 75-80% for the smell, performance and quality at 70%. the modern cool water is close at 50% max, no questions about performance and quality, you know who is so much better than the other one . I recommend an old batch of cool water of course if it is stored in a good way. it's just my humble opionion so i can be wrong. Ho una bottiglia piuttosto vecchia di cool water e posso dire che la similitudine con creed green irish tweed (recente) è molto marcata. Consiglio quindi il cool water vintage a patto che sia stato conservato bene, altrimenti vada per quello recente. One of the most disappointing and tragic moments in a man's life is when his someone special says, "Aaah, Cool Water. Mmmmmm...", as you hold her close, when what you're actually wearing is Green Irish Tweed😩 This happened to me many years ago, and I still get flashes of that moment today. Oh the trauma! That someone special has been history for almost as many years, but that moment got me thinking long and deep about spending my money on expensive fragrances that have proficient doppelgangers. Well of course I never learnt my lesson, but I have been more careful and considered before handing over hard-earned dosh. There is very little difference between Creed's Green Irish Tweed and Cool Water, particularly in the air. And I live in a country where 99.999% of the people would never have heard of GIT. Cool Water is an incredible fragrance, and you can get a 200ml. bottle for a sixth of the price of Green Irish Tweed. Cool Water is the greenest fragrance I have in my collection, and it is a summer staple for me. Fresh, crisp, cool, green, uplifting, sexy. Longevity in recent bottles have been around 8 hours, which is good. Cool Water almost defined a generation here in South Africa. I am not at all surprised that my then girlfriend thought it was Cool Water she was smelling on me all those years ago instead of a high-end fragrance. I went into that date wanting to impress her by wearing the most expensive fragrance I had in my collection, and I did, with... "Cool Water"😉

I'm old enough to remember wearing Cool Water in its heyday when I was in college, so there's definitely a nostalgic affinity for me. That said, I still enjoy it greatly today. It's super fresh and uplifting, with aquatic, floral (lavender and neroli primarily), and green notes working with a touch of mossy and sweet elements to create a timeless and unique scent that projects relaxed refinement and modern restrained masculinity. I have a new bottle, and while it isn't quite on par with the richness and quality of the original formulation it still captures the overall accord accurately. It's not a huge performer but I get 6ish hours as a skin scent - not terrible for a fresh scent. As for its age, this one doesn't have much in common with most modern cologne trends but neither does it smell objectionably old fashioned like some 80s scents that skewed much more potent and uber masculine (Versace L'Homme, e.g.). I think of it as more "throwback" than "old man". For the very modest price from discounters, Cool Water is well worth having as an important piece of fragrance history - seriously, this was THE dominant popular scent for years in the US - and one that remains very wearable and enjoyable today. A classic for a reason...

Here we come again- complaints of reformulations, nostalgia for the good old times and a bucolic golden age, where perfumes were always better., and Humankind and Nature were marching hand in hand in peace, etc. My honest and non mass-pleasing assessment is however that Cool Water never was - nor intended to be- a powerhouse. Sure, Lancaster iteration is long gone, with oakmoss and restrictions by EU regulations in the notable ‘Brussels effect’ impacting the worldwide industry (which adapted to the strictest policies available becoming de facto standard). But. May I be allowed a big but here. We were younger, in a less olfactory crowded world not clogged by oriental amberish ouds and fixatives, with a better sense of smell - which degrades over time, Cool Water was so novel and unorthodox, generating a strong imprinting - that we may now confound this shocking feel with potency and duration. Just two cents on false memories, or, amplification of selective memory and other mind tricks to be further explored.

Feels like an eternal classic. I don't think there was ever a time when I smelled CW and thought it was bad. It's also the only scent I would purchase throughout my entire lifetime. From young teen to middle aged, I always managed to pick up a bottle here and there. Fresh and green. It always evoked thoughts of the ocean and just an all around fresh feeling. Performance is... not great. Regardless, I enjoy the smell so much that I can overlook that, perhaps you will too? It's been a good 10 years since my last purchase but I picked up a 200ml recently which will carry me for a long time. If you want something that is very similar but with better performance then look into Al Haramain Amber Oud Carbon. I bought both as I really enjoy this scent profile.

Hey BritvaSpark, you are probably going nose blind to this (ansomnia). I have this happen to me with certain fragrances that contain iso e super, I cannot smell bleu de chanel at all and it apparently contains a lot of iso e. What I found you can do is spray it on a piece of clothing and walk away for a couple hours. Come back and smell it and if it smells strong on the clothing, you are probably just going nose blind. My girlfriend gave me a small bottle of Davidoff Cool Water in 2011. According to her agent, it was a bottle manufactured way back in 1998. And I liked it because it was the first perfume that she gave me. After so many years, I decided to buy a large 125ml bottle. It still smells good to me but I think something has changed. So I immediately searched the internet if CW was reformulated, and yes it was in early 2000s because of IFRA restrictions. I looked for the batch code and verified it in CheckFresh and it is a 2022 bottle. I still like it. I already wore it twice since it arrived 3 days ago. But the smell does not remind me of the first perfume my girlfriend gave me.

I have to love this era of non-perfumey freshie fragrances, in which a later stand out is CK One. The citrus opening here is all zing and fizz, but I don't find this an aggressively masculine scent at all. It's elegant construction supports a distinct, timeless character with a kind of elevated – clean humanity that's understated and versatile. It IS cool because it's well done without trying hard. Ridiculously cheap and I find the performance spot on for the kind of scent I don't want to last till evening. Sort of the cool uncle to Bleu de Chanel and I think if you like blue scents you ought to have both. Love it, particularly in cold weather for some reason.

Despite being mainstream, old-school, and extremely common, Davidoff Cool Water is still a fragrance I genuinely enjoy wearing. It’s simple, fresh, clean, and timeless in a way that never really gets boring to me. Sometimes the classics work for a reason. Personally, I actually prefer it over Acqua di Giò and CK One. It feels more masculine, aquatic, and straightforward without trying too hard. Easy to wear, versatile, and still incredibly pleasant even after all these years. That said, the performance is terrible. Longevity and projection are pretty weak, especially compared to many modern fragrances. But honestly, I still enjoy wearing it anyway.

I know it's not cool anymore to love this old school fragrance, so hate me all you want. It is one of the most appealing, if not the best, cologne for men. It is a complex aquatic that is so well blended, that I'll never tire of it. There is nothing like it, and every time I try other aquatic scents, they pale in comparison to Cool Water. The oceanic note, the herbal undertones, the clean musk, the unassuming florals--it's all there. I get made fun of for liking this all the time. I don't care. EDIT: Wow, have they watered down this fragrance from the potency it used to have when it was released a couple decades ago. Longevity is poor. Sad.

An absolute classic cologne that's perfect for both spring and summer wear. The safest blind buy for sure. I wanna say Snoop Dogg wore this back in his younger days in the 90s lol. I smell the seawater notes, some mint and a good bit of lavender. Very little tobacco but I do also smell some woody notes in the drydown. Really great smelling fragrance for a cheap price!! Definitely lasts long and has decent sillage if oversprayed, like 5-7 sprays on clothes. Scent Profile: 10/10 Longevity: 8/10 (4-6 hrs, sometimes longer) Sillage: 7.5/10 (depends really on how much/heavy you spray) Overall: 9/10

It’s a great fragrance, with nearly everything about it being nice—it’s cool and refreshing, with green notes in the middle, but it doesn’t last long. When I first bought it, it felt a bit too generic because I had smelled a similar scents before probably because other products copied it, which makes sense since it was a legendary fragrance back then. After about 6–8 months, I started enjoying it more and lost that sense of it being generic, since I realized I don’t smell it anywhere else anymore. I wish they hadn’t reformulated it so it could have stayed a legend.

I looove this! My boyfriend got this to be his summer scent and I love hove aromatic & oceany it is. The only downside is that it doesn't last very long at all, but I guess that's what you get with this kind of scent profile. It kind of reminds me of Lush Guardian of The Forest body spray - just less sharp and more oceany. Lush sometimes gives bug spray/too grassy, and this is more toned down and wearable so I think I prefer it. But they both have that aromatic vibe that I really enjoy and find very refreshing.
