Ámbar Dominicano

Today I'm taking a look at Ambar Dominicano from the house of Day Three. This is a fragrance house I've never heard of before. In fact, the only reason I have this decant is because it was sent to me for free along with another order I made. That said, I have absolutely no preconceived notions or expectations; this is a blind test in the truest sense. Let's get into it and see if this is a house worth looking further into. Opening: The opening is a rich blend of spice, comforting warmth, and deep sweetness. The primary notes I discern are cinnamon, benzoin, Coca-Cola, and rum, with cinnamon and benzoin being the standout notes. The cinnamon is the first to hit my nose with an intensely spicy and powdery accord, akin to the aroma of freshly ground cinnamon sticks. Following closely behind is the benzoin with a rich and deep balsamic sweetness. It doesn't lean heavily into a vanillic tone as some benzoin notes can; instead, it stays truer to the ambery and resinous side of the note. Next is the Coca-Cola and rum. The Coca-Cola, while not a highlighted note, is easily distinguishable as a sweet and effervescent accord. I wouldn't say it's photorealistic to the scent of the soft drink, but it certainly carries that "cola accord" you find in similar fragrances like Mancera's Tonka Cola. Lastly, the rum rounds out the opening with a spicy, sweet, and boozy kick in the background. The cola and rum work together well to authentically recreate a "rum and coke" cocktail accord, but it plays a supporting role to allow the cinnamon and benzoin to truly shine. Dry Down: The dry down continues its identity as a composition that is warm, sweet, and spicy. The primary notes are benzoin, cinnamon, Coca-Cola, and vanilla, with cinnamon and benzoin remaining the most prominent notes. The cinnamon continues to be a highlight in the dry down with the same spicy and powdery accord, as does the benzoin, with the same rich, balsamic accord. They are a bit smoother and more rounded in the dry down, but otherwise very similar to how they manifested in the opening. This is followed by the Coca-Cola and vanilla. The Coca-Cola remains a supporting note with the same fizzy sweetness, but takes a step closer to smelling like a realistic glass of Coca-Cola, or perhaps the gummy cola candies. Lastly, the vanilla has swapped places with the rum to provide an extra dose of creamy sweetness, helping to bolster the already rich and opulent nature of the dry down. The rum is still present to a degree, but it's a whisper in the background. Performance: The initial projection is very robust and can easily fill a room. Sillage mirrors that potency with a dense and heavy scent trail. After a few hours, the projection and sillage were essentially unchanged, remaining very powerful. When I checked again eight hours later, the projection was still at least six feet, and the scent trail was still easily noticeable. The fragrance lasted at least twelve hours before finally fading into a skin scent, demonstrating true "beast mode" performance. When to Wear: Ambar Dominicano is the very definition of an evening fall/winter fragrance: sweet, rich, spicy, and heavy. This is the type of fragrance that will work wonders for special occasions but may feel a bit out of place anywhere else. It is too rich for casual wear, too sweet for formal occasions, and too heavy for office environments. Nevertheless, it is a knockout fragrance for a date night or anniversary. Blind Buy: If you enjoy fragrances like Tonka Cola or Roja's Creation-E, Ambar Dominicano is a safe blind buy for you. Final Verdict: In my opinion, Ambar Dominicano is what Tonka Cola tried to be. Day Three took the same scent profile and simply improved upon it in virtually every conceivable way. The blend is smoother, the notes feel of a higher quality, and even the performance is superior. Sure, Tonka Cola is less expensive and you get more milliliters of fragrance, but this is truly a "get what you pay for" type of situation. Honestly, I'd even choose this over Creation-E, and that is a much more expensive Roja fragrance. In short, I will be selling my bottle of Tonka Cola and picking this up when I get the chance. This is the best "Coca-Cola" fragrance you can buy, hands down, and I will definitely be exploring more from this house in the future. My first try of Day Three Fragrances, Ambar Dominicano, a spicy, semi-sweet, floral amber that features a lively blend of notes, including honey, immortelle, cinnamon, clove, anise, and a noticeable cola accord, and it was recommended to me as an interesting option as a cola fragrance, which I think it is, even if it’s not too heavy on the cola. It has some of the citric freshness of the cola, fueled by spices, without as much of the caramelized sugar vibe, instead with honey, flowers, and resins. As it dries down, the spices remain pleasant while being frankly a little less raw and animalic, and instead a little more gourmandish, so the whole blend becomes a little more easygoing over time. Overall, I see this is an innovative blend that does not really mimic anything else I’ve tried before in terms of resins, cola, or spices. It’s really nicely done and I can see why this seems, at least, to be one of the house’s flagship offerings. Spicy, sweet, resinous, cola, floral—it has plenty going on and the care put into it is palpable. Ambar Dominicano performs quite well and is priced in three great options at $225/130/35 for 100/50/10ml, sold directly on the house’s website, roughly in the $2-4 / ml range, depending on the size. 8 out of 10

Ambar Dominicano is a fragrant journey straight to my heart as a Dominican. The fizzy cola note bursts with joy, instantly reminding me of the lively festivities and holidays back home. This is a captivating fragrance that unfolds beautifully with every layer. The fizzy cola note delivers an exhilarating burst of energy, instantly making you feel alive. As it develops, the heart reveals a rich tapestry of honey, cinnamon, and clove, reminiscent of the warm, spicy aroma of mamajuana. This bold blend adds depth and character, making it alluring. The fragrance settles into a smooth base of vanilla and amber, creating a lasting impression that is almost perpetual. Ambar Dominicano is not just a scent; it’s a delightful experience that celebrates complexity and warmth, making it a standout choice for any occasion. The real exception, in a sea of boozy fragrances.

This is so Good! This is SL ambre sultan but with more of a unique amber and less spice. The amber here is so so smooth and warm. Very comforting. A cocacola-like amber really radiates in the air and creates a warm bubble around you. I'd really recommend this for all amber lovers like myself. This is very easygoing. I personally like this one and Bani/delmar along this line but this one is the best performing from the line I find. Can smell it on strip paper for DAYS. Clothes 1-days. And on skin for about 6-8 hours. Sillage is very surprising too. This is a very complete amber fragrance, that checks all boxes. 9.5/10!!!!

It does have that cola vibe. I think it is done really well. I haven't found a cola based fragrance that has made me want a bottle. This has potential to do that. I liked Creation E but it didn't get me there. I appreciated the performance of Tonka Cola but was a tad too sweet. This with the boozy notes tones it down a bit but still great performance. I didn't have huge projection as some but easy 10 hours of wear. This will be in the running for a possible full bottle from trying the discovery set. Great experience thus far.
