Ámbar Dominicano

Today I'm taking a look at Ambar Dominicano from the house of Day Three. This is a fragrance house I've never heard of before. In fact, the only reason I have this decant is because it was sent to me for free along with another order I made. That said, I have absolutely no preconceived notions or expectations; this is a blind test in the truest sense. Let's get into it and see if this is a house worth looking further into. Opening: The opening is a rich blend of spice, comforting warmth, and deep sweetness. The primary notes I discern are cinnamon, benzoin, Coca-Cola, and rum, with cinnamon and benzoin being the standout notes. The cinnamon is the first to hit my nose with an intensely spicy and powdery accord, akin to the aroma of freshly ground cinnamon sticks. Following closely behind is the benzoin with a rich and deep balsamic sweetness. It doesn't lean heavily into a vanillic tone as some benzoin notes can; instead, it stays truer to the ambery and resinous side of the note. Next is the Coca-Cola and rum. The Coca-Cola, while not a highlighted note, is easily distinguishable as a sweet and effervescent accord. I wouldn't say it's photorealistic to the scent of the soft drink, but it certainly carries that "cola accord" you find in similar fragrances like Mancera's Tonka Cola. Lastly, the rum rounds out the opening with a spicy, sweet, and boozy kick in the background. The cola and rum work together well to authentically recreate a "rum and coke" cocktail accord, but it plays a supporting role to allow the cinnamon and benzoin to truly shine. Dry Down: The dry down continues its identity as a composition that is warm, sweet, and spicy. The primary notes are benzoin, cinnamon, Coca-Cola, and vanilla, with cinnamon and benzoin remaining the most prominent notes. The cinnamon continues to be a highlight in the dry down with the same spicy and powdery accord, as does the benzoin, with the same rich, balsamic accord. They are a bit smoother and more rounded in the dry down, but otherwise very similar to how they manifested in the opening. This is followed by the Coca-Cola and vanilla. The Coca-Cola remains a supporting note with the same fizzy sweetness, but takes a step closer to smelling like a realistic glass of Coca-Cola, or perhaps the gummy cola candies. Lastly, the vanilla has swapped places with the rum to provide an extra dose of creamy sweetness, helping to bolster the already rich and opulent nature of the dry down. The rum is still present to a degree, but it's a whisper in the background. Performance: The initial projection is very robust and can easily fill a room. Sillage mirrors that potency with a dense and heavy scent trail. After a few hours, the projection and sillage were essentially unchanged, remaining very powerful. When I checked again eight hours later, the projection was still at least six feet, and the scent trail was still easily noticeable. The fragrance lasted at least twelve hours before finally fading into a skin scent, demonstrating true "beast mode" performance. When to Wear: Ambar Dominicano is the very definition of an evening fall/winter fragrance: sweet, rich, spicy, and heavy. This is the type of fragrance that will work wonders for special occasions but may feel a bit out of place anywhere else. It is too rich for casual wear, too sweet for formal occasions, and too heavy for office environments. Nevertheless, it is a knockout fragrance for a date night or anniversary. Blind Buy: If you enjoy fragrances like Tonka Cola or Roja's Creation-E, Ambar Dominicano is a safe blind buy for you. Final Verdict: In my opinion, Ambar Dominicano is what Tonka Cola tried to be. Day Three took the same scent profile and simply improved upon it in virtually every conceivable way. The blend is smoother, the notes feel of a higher quality, and even the performance is superior. Sure, Tonka Cola is less expensive and you get more milliliters of fragrance, but this is truly a "get what you pay for" type of situation. Honestly, I'd even choose this over Creation-E, and that is a much more expensive Roja fragrance. In short, I will be selling my bottle of Tonka Cola and picking this up when I get the chance. This is the best "Coca-Cola" fragrance you can buy, hands down, and I will definitely be exploring more from this house in the future. My first try of Day Three Fragrances, Ambar Dominicano, a spicy, semi-sweet, floral amber that features a lively blend of notes, including honey, immortelle, cinnamon, clove, anise, and a noticeable cola accord, and it was recommended to me as an interesting option as a cola fragrance, which I think it is, even if it’s not too heavy on the cola. It has some of the citric freshness of the cola, fueled by spices, without as much of the caramelized sugar vibe, instead with honey, flowers, and resins. As it dries down, the spices remain pleasant while being frankly a little less raw and animalic, and instead a little more gourmandish, so the whole blend becomes a little more easygoing over time. Overall, I see this is an innovative blend that does not really mimic anything else I’ve tried before in terms of resins, cola, or spices. It’s really nicely done and I can see why this seems, at least, to be one of the house’s flagship offerings. Spicy, sweet, resinous, cola, floral—it has plenty going on and the care put into it is palpable. Ambar Dominicano performs quite well and is priced in three great options at $225/130/35 for 100/50/10ml, sold directly on the house’s website, roughly in the $2-4 / ml range, depending on the size. 8 out of 10

Ambar Dominicano is a fragrant journey straight to my heart as a Dominican. The fizzy cola note bursts with joy, instantly reminding me of the lively festivities and holidays back home. This is a captivating fragrance that unfolds beautifully with every layer. The fizzy cola note delivers an exhilarating burst of energy, instantly making you feel alive. As it develops, the heart reveals a rich tapestry of honey, cinnamon, and clove, reminiscent of the warm, spicy aroma of mamajuana. This bold blend adds depth and character, making it alluring. The fragrance settles into a smooth base of vanilla and amber, creating a lasting impression that is almost perpetual. Ambar Dominicano is not just a scent; it’s a delightful experience that celebrates complexity and warmth, making it a standout choice for any occasion. The real exception, in a sea of boozy fragrances.

This is so Good! This is SL ambre sultan but with more of a unique amber and less spice. The amber here is so so smooth and warm. Very comforting. A cocacola-like amber really radiates in the air and creates a warm bubble around you. I'd really recommend this for all amber lovers like myself. This is very easygoing. I personally like this one and Bani/delmar along this line but this one is the best performing from the line I find. Can smell it on strip paper for DAYS. Clothes 1-days. And on skin for about 6-8 hours. Sillage is very surprising too. This is a very complete amber fragrance, that checks all boxes. 9.5/10!!!!

It does have that cola vibe. I think it is done really well. I haven't found a cola based fragrance that has made me want a bottle. This has potential to do that. I liked Creation E but it didn't get me there. I appreciated the performance of Tonka Cola but was a tad too sweet. This with the boozy notes tones it down a bit but still great performance. I didn't have huge projection as some but easy 10 hours of wear. This will be in the running for a possible full bottle from trying the discovery set. Great experience thus far.

Smells like grand soir by mfk but better Edit: so after a full wearing. This niche house is honestly, top 3 to me. This fragrance starts off with the Ambery smell like grand soir, then it turns into this Coca Cola vanilla myyr-ish ice cream scent, THEN 2 hours into the dry down it becomes this sweet maple syrup in the microwave Picture this. Old vanilla ice cream with a vintage Coca Cola bottle poured on top of it with maple syrup being warmed up. Slap that in a microwave all with a splash of milk 🤌🏽👏🏾👏🏾🤑🤑

Perfection! Spicy Vanilla Coke with a lime garnish. Quite unisex imo. Not at all a "Wallflower" scent. You need to be confident in wearing this one as it is not a very traditional smelling fragrance. I have a 10 ml travel size I'm working my way through and most definitely will purchase the full size when finished. Another banger from Day Three!

I agree with deja's comment below. This is pretty powdery and chocolatey, but mostly in the air for me. On skin this is beautiful. It's resinous, spiced, and vanillic. I can understand where the cola is coming from for people, but the smell of chocolate powder stands out for me right now. As much as I love this, I feel it's too mature for me.

I'm no longer worried about what will take the place of my beloved bottle of the discontinued Amber Eccentrico when I finally use the last drops-- Ambar Dominicano is a beautiful substitute and pretty similar to its Armani counterpart. I just got the Day Three discovery set and, so far, their frags are fantastic. I'm excited about this house!

Purchased the sample set and this one is my favorite. This definitely reminds me of Roja Enigma/Creation-e which is one of my favorite from Roja. It’s a bit sweeter and darker than Roja but has that Coca-Cola opening that I love. I purchased Filosofia, but I am going back to grab a bottle of this one. Fantastic.

Michael Paul did a fantastic job with this olfactory creation of the Dominican Mamajuana the woods and spices red wine, rum and honey.... amazing. This is Enigma and Tonka Colas older brother, or cousin, the one that gets all the ass of 10 men and has legendary stories of his bad boy adventures.

Yeah baby! I like this one and it's a win. I wouldn't have called this coca cola note or picked that up on my own, but I definitely can smell it after reading the notes. This is a sexy gourmand with lively festive vibes to it.

Delicious effervescent cola on top, followed by a dollop of cinnamon and clove. Dare I say Roja Enigma-esque? Definitely more cola than Dr. Pepper. A splash of rum comes and goes. Soothing yet mysterious fragrance.

Rum and Coke with lime. This is a banger and the dry down is so good. Long lasting. It reminds me of Mancera Tonka Cola because of the coca cola note. well blended. Full bottle worthy.

One of the most beautiful dry downs you'll ever smell. Boozy with a smooth cola and spice accord. Leans a bit masculine. For the price it's a no brainer. This house has some bangers.

Excellent rendering of all mentioned notes, but specially that coca, spicy vanilla, which makes it all smell quite Amber. High quality fragrance!

Rum & coke. Unique take on an amber fragrance. Soft and inviting scent. I dig it!

Today we’re looking at Ambar Dominicano from Day Three Fragrances. I saw all the hype online and wanted to find out what the fuss was about. The fragrance is said to capture the feeling of Dominican gatherings where bottles of rum are passed around. That sounded like a good time so I was excited to see what it smelled like. The opening hits with a clean boozy cola smell. It reminds me of whiskey and cola with a hint of lime, but it also has a soft powdery lavender underneath. After about 30 minutes, the scent starts to change. The immortelle adds a honeyed sweet tobacco note, the davana brings a touch of booziness, and the cinnamon and anise give a very mild spice. The anise almost smells like black jelly beans. Mixed with the cola, it reminds me of a candy bag filled with gummy cola bottles and black jelly beans. It’s surprisingly enjoyable. After a couple of hours, the patchouli and vanilla come forward along with the amber glow. The cola is still faintly there but much smoother. It feels more mature than the first few minutes made me think. At first, I wondered if I really wanted to smell like this, but once the spices appeared, I knew the answer was yes. Somehow Day Three made a strong cola note work, and it works very well. Overall, Ambar Dominicano is warm and playful with a lot of character. It just makes you smile when you smell it, and the notes are fun without being too much. This is definitely a fragrance that I think you’ll want to reach for again and again.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about this one at first but the more I smelled it the more I like it. Reminds me a bit of Rojas Enigma but more well rounded (in my opinion). I definitely tell the more I wear it the more it’ll grow on me. For now I’ll just enjoy my sample and possible cop a full bottle in the future Edit: Also coming back to say that the performance on this fragrance is a little wild. Tested it at night before bed and can still smell it on my wrist the next morning, after my shower, and even hours later after work

Not gonna lie, the immediate opening made me almost hate this but like a minute later it smells amazing. It smells like a lime Coca-Cola with cinnamon lurking in the background, once the lime goes away the cinnamon makes more of a presence.

The best from the house, IMHO--this one should have been the Aftel award winner. Rich warm cinnamon with cola. Red wine emerges in the heart but stays polite. A great drydown as well.

This is the only description you need for this fragrance. Coca-Cola and baby powder.

I’m really not in love with this for personal reasons. Mostly because I pick up heavily on a realistic rum in the opening and this note isn’t always my favorite. I love the smell of gin and vodka, sometimes bourbon, but rum is challenging on my skin when it has the urinous candy undertones. Coca cola accords are interesting because they can easily make a fragrance very mature or very immature based on execution. Here, the dryness of the aroma emphasizes the cinnamon and nutmeg. It almost makes it feel a bit vintage feminine oriental in styling, with the warm musky fuzzy brown spices. However, the sort of realistic boozy gourmand tones (leftover rum, big honey note) bring it back to modernity. I do think these Day Three fragrances are well made. La Tacita de Cafe and Filosofia are quite good opulent unisex sweet scents if you’re into that sort of thing. I think Atkinson’s Pirates Grand Reserve and Strangers Parfumerie Comme Un Carrousel are in the same wheelhouse as Ambar Dominicano and just smell a lot better. 7.5/10

This opens with a prominent powdery and herbal lavender paired with a hint of lime and cola. This is much more powdery than I’d expect from the notes, and I think it’s due to a heavy band of lavender. You do get some sweet spice from the cola and it becomes more noticeable as the scent develops. It’s smooth and feels more like a flat cola versus a fresh and fizzy one. The heart of this has a honeyed warmth to it, but again this feels really powdery with the florals, especially with the added patchouli. The dry down is an ambery and spiced vanilla cola sort of smell with remnants of powdery, herbal florals. I think this could work for someone else but it was too powdery for my liking.

Super-boring, linear sweet vanilla-coke fragrance. Nonetheless sillage and longevity are really good.

in agreement that this is the best of the house. Opens with a very deep, pleasant, and slightly spiced amber note. Patchouli can be detected as well, but definitely not as strong as the amber. This gets way sweeter as it dries, and almost starts to smell like a different fragrance completely. Starts to smell like a more luxurious version of a rum & coke, if that cocktail had a good dose of amber notes When this dries it the rum note mostly disappears, and it actually starts to smell how it opened which is unusual Cola oud, enigma, and grand soir are all very different fragrances. This might be the best of the bunch if you're looking for the best amber fragrance of those 3

This is my favorite Day Three. If you like a Coca Cola note you may love this. Perf for fall & winter. Well blended this is a rich decadent Coca Cola Amber with a slight zip of lime. Also Day Three has wonderful customer service a company that responds to its emails and is incredibly helpful! Wearing this again today I love the beautiful cube shaped bottle and wooden cap. This is such a gorgeous rummy Coca Cola! The rum has deepened a bit as my bottle has been macerating to perfection. This can be worn in the summer lightly. Very intoxicating!

This was a love at first sniff. I love the warmth and spiciness. I have samples of the entire line and of the darker offerings, ( La Tacita De Cafe, Midnight Rasberry, Ambar Dominocano, and Aylan ) this is by far the best. Profile, power, projection are all very solid. This is one of the best amber fragrances I’ve ever tried. A scent that will remain in your scent memory for a long time.

It will take some wears to appreciate this one; it smells a bit old school at the beginning due to the combination of boozy notes and amber. The dry down of cola, rum, and amber is the best part of this scent. The spices could be overwhelming for some, and it will remind you of a beautiful scent: Enigma by Roja. For me, it's better than the latter. The longevity is significant, though.

It was my very first discovery from the house...I have always dreamed about perfume that would smell like my favorite drink - Coca Cola with lime!!! It exceeded my expectations by giving me way more - booziness on a bed of warm amber and vanilla and oh so much more. Beautiful! Just amazing! Bravo to perfumer! Performance is outstanding as with all Day Three offerings!

A spicy rum and coke with a dash of vanilla and twist of lime (which I detected immediately). Some resemblance to Roja’s Enigma and Mancera’s Tonka Cola, but the rum and lime makes it own unique fragrance reflecting its Dominican roots. Loved it after sampling and bought a full bottle. Personally think this is the best fragrance within Day Three’s strong line up.

“Masterpiece” The best fragrance I own in my 400 bottle niche collection, based on a Dominican drink, it’s perfection in a bottle and is easily the best fragrance from one of the best fragrance houses. It smells like Enigma Parfum but 10x better. Deliciousa as they say, buying a back up bottle soon

I definitely get the cola and it is well-done here. Not super fizzy but smells like cola soda with warmth & spice. Easy-wearing, light-feeling ambery cola. Unisex but I see men being more attracted to it even though it doesn't smell too masculine for a woman to wear. Nice fragrance.

This is an amazing fragrance. It's boozy and ambery. You clearly get notes of Rum and Cola and Amber. Perfectly blended

Not the biggest fan of this house but this is their best fragrance probably. Sweet, spicy warm and comforting

This immediately reminded me of a touch brighter, more sparkly version of Musc Ravageur.
