Bonfire

Oh man, oh man, I LOVE THIS!!!!! I found this last winter and I had been wishing for something like this for YEARS!!!! This reminds me of when I was a kid and it was like OK to just BURN leaves in your backyard, those teenaged bonfire parties way out in the woods, the smell of fall and the big red harvest moon, oh and that song from Type O Negative - Black no.1 "Her perfume smells like burning leaves, everyday is Halloween", camping trips! Good times!!! This was my signature smell in my Goth youth and it wasn't even from a bottle back then! Sure the top notes are of barbecued chicken but it's worth it in the dry down to smell burning maple leaves whenever you want to! I love autumn here in Wisconsin by the farms and forests in the brisk dewy air it always smells like this! P.S. I don't think this smells of meat but the sweetness and smoke at the start has a Liquid Smoke tinge that can remind one of BBQ sause. Don't worry that effect doesn't last long.

This is one of my main fall/winter scents ever! It truly smells like a nice toasty bonfire...a perfect Smokey,musky,cozy firey scent with a slight hint of spice that lasts pretty good all day and night. In my opinion this is a unisex scent leaning towards more masculine but it’s all good because anytime I wear this I always get complimented and asked what perfume am I wearing.

This is a strange one. Sometimes it smells like a good clean bonfire, other times I catch whiffs of craft store/floral shop in it. Either way it is very cozy and pleasant. I love this scent!

I was braced to be disappointed, since a significant minority of people find this fragrance meaty, or reminiscent of lighter fluid. But, hooray, it's almost exactly what I was hoping for! Not a whiff of meat or BBQ. For me, it's all wood and smoke with a hint of spicy sweetness. I only wish it were more leafy than woody. (The leafiness is there, but it's not nearly as prominent as the wood.) Also reminds me a tad of the smoke from freshly-extinguished candles. Longevity is significantly better than most Demeter fragrances.

One of my favorite fall and winter scents, and SUCH a great layering scent to have in your collection. If you like scents reminiscent of Christmastime, layering this under something spicy or sweet can easily transform it into something Christmassy. Judging from the reviews I'm in the minority with this opinion, but to me it suits the name to a T!

This starts off with a really great smell of burning wood - or as close to it as a perfume can smell to that. A short time later, it turns into a very sweet incense aroma. And then it just dies... within like two hours. And that's all there is to it. The sillage is minimal and the longevity is weak. If you like incense smells, this is for you!

It is not really a bonfire. That would be Tauer's Lonesome Rider. This is very cinnamon, sweet, fruity and a little smokey. It reminds me of a weaker less complex version of some of Deep Midnight's lovely oils on Etsy.

Smells like lighter fluid, really needs to be paired with incense or something woody to offset the chemical in it. Unlike their Fireplace is closer to something that may be on fire by the smell.

This is soft, slightly sweet, dusty incense smoke. It's woody and smoky, but doesn't smell anything like woodsmoke. It's quite nice.

To me, this was quite piney. A bonfire of pine logs, perhaps? Somewhat soapy, too. It reminded me of Sung Homme.

Smells like burning incense. That's it.

This one sounded great, I was expecting that burnt-leaves, wood-smoke smell you get on your jacket after a night sitting around a bonfire. I was very disappointed to find this did not smell smoky at all. It's really hard for me to describe; a bizarre chemical smell that I cannot place. I gave it a couple chances, but I really can't stand it. I sprayed some on my sleeve, and within half an hour I had to change shirts because it smelled so awful.

It's very interesting. This is a spicy smoky scent for cold weather and it's very potent but at the same time not long lasting. 5-6 hours maximum. I find it very synthetic and harsh, it's good for layering but if you spray this alone, it's not that great. During the drydown it gets smoother, however it stays linear.

A nauseatingly synthetic and masculine scent. It needs to be layered with a sweet or fresh fragrance to become nice and wearable. Doesn't smell like an authentic bonfire at all.

Smells reminsicent of cheap potpourri. Sometimes piss-y. Great miss on the whole "bonfire" aspect :(

This smells too synthetic to me, like walmart candles/wax melts. Headache-inducing.

I love the smoky Gucci Pour Homme (2003), which led me buy samples of Demeter Bonfire, Demeter Fireplace and CB I Hate Perfume Burning Leaves. I expected a somewhat similarity, bacause I think Gucci (2003) smells similar to a fireplace and burning herbs. When I got the samples, I got somewhat schocked. I had never come across worse smelling fragrances in my life. This one (Bonfire) is the worst. It is very similar to Burning Leaves, but that one is lighter. Bonfire smells like a huge garbage bag with BBQ leftovers burning IN a bonfire!

I like Yankee Candle and Woodwick’s “fireside” scents, so I picked this one up, thinking it would be similar. - Not exactly. Those scents have a subtle sweetness/spice and the “wood” and “burn” notes are not overdone. “Bonfire” is a very strange take on a “fireside” scent. It tries hard to be sweet, but it never quite gets there. It’s very very strong. The scent reminds me of the smell of burnt cookies. Imagine putting sugar cookies in the oven, falling asleep, and awakening to the sound of your fire alarms going off. -Sugar and flour reduced to burning carbon. There’s something weird about it... I’m not sure how I would feel about wearing this or smelling it on another person.

I used to say that someone should make a men's fragrance that left you smelling like you had a fireplace or woodstove, as I always found that scent to be incredibly masculine and sexy. Demeter has done it. It doesn't open well at all, honestly somewhere between spittoon and pine-scented urinal cake for a few minutes, but once the alcohol dries down, that sweet piney, smoky aroma comes through, and there it is: a big thick sweater and a roaring fire keeping you warm.

I got a small bottle of the splash based solely on Demeter's website's description of it. Its smells as advertised, shockingly so, however I can't imagine an appropriate occasion to wear this scent. Its pleasant, but for me its primary value is as memory trigger for being outside on cold winter days when wood smoke hangs thick in the frozen air.
