Cedar

I love cedar scents but this one smells very synthetic and almost dirty? It’s not the clean cedar smell from other fragrance blends i’ve owned. I get the pencil shavings note some people have mentioned. Bitter and sterile. It reminds me that super synthetic aerosol cheap cleaners. I layered it with lemon meringue and it made it more palatable.

Cedar is probably my all-time favorite scent, but I could never find a fragrance with a cedar note that I absolutely loved enough to make my “signature scent”. I figured I’d try Demeter’s single note Cedar, with the idea that I could use it as a base note to blend with other scents according to the seasons (cedar with rose for spring, etc). I expected fresh cedar trees in the forest, my cedar-shingled childhood home, and cedar blocks in closets. On a tester, it’s extremely sweet and soapy with a mild “pencil shaving” note at the end, but definitely leans “urinal cake.” Not really what I’d describe as cedar at all. More like someone used Pinsol to clean a public restroom and then refilled the soap dispensers? My partner and I both said “Oh no, ew,” at first whiff so, not the best start! When worn I was hoping the soapy-sweet smell would take a backseat to the woodsy cedar but unfortunately not the case. It was so unpleasant I had to wash it off and the mini went right in the trash. Still on the hunt for a true cedar!

Do not buy this expecting it to be like the sweet red-cedar smell you would associate with jewelry boxes or hamster bedding, because this is not that. This has more of a dirty smelling tree bark odor to it than a fresh cut wood smell, it's certainly NOT a clean cedar smell like what everyone keeps advertising in their "all natural" body-washes and and deodorants these days. I kind of wonder about the perfumer who came up with this one.

Was mir an diesem Duft gefällt, ist, wie er sich im Laufe des Tages verändert. Er beginnt leicht und fast luftig, wie die Ruhe nach einem Sommerregen, und wird später wärmer und einladender. Es fühlt sich nicht einfach wie ein Parfum an – es schafft eine Stimmung. Dezent, aber mit einer Persönlichkeit, die einem mit der Zeit immer mehr gefällt.

Schon beim ersten Sprühen begeistert mich dieser Duft mit seiner warmen und einladenden Note. Die Mischung aus feinen Gewürzen und zarten Blüten schafft eine elegante, aber dennoch zugängliche Atmosphäre. Er ist stilvoll, ohne zu intensiv zu wirken – genau richtig für alle, die einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen möchten.
