Frankincense

I'm glad I tried this. It smells the way the Myrrh Demeter perfume should smell, but that one is soapy piney and weird not like myrrh at all. This opens slightly ambery-sharp for a minute then instantly super sweet resinous and slightly green; a balsamic amber-y and slightly nutty smell with a green vibe reminiscent of the chestnut cashmere wood amber Tonka blend of Pepe jeans Celebrate for her, beautifully aromatic and woody, and becomes syrupy almost caramelized and kinda like licorice aka the way myrrh normally smells. It pairs well with Sawdust, the woody, nutty slightly green perfume. It has the smell in the opening that made me as a child view incense and myrrh in powder like the Turkish delight lokum. It has a strong woody base that becomes more prominent later at the drydown. This becomes deeper gradually and powdery so more mature than the brighter resinous slightly nutty and green opening. It is lighter woody-green and sweet resinous in the opening and the mid phase. It develops into a vintage powdery warm scent, even more balsamic with a heavier amber-y vibe and with a unisex feel to it. The sweetness becomes thick like powdery red roses or red carnations and super balsamic and so it reminds me of the thickly sweet scent of these Indian incense sticks at the later drydown. So it becomes very pungent and heavy, not crazy about the drydown being so heady-balsamic and powdery like these Indian incense sticks, so paired with Sawdust it's slightly less heady/powdery. Sawdust amplifies the nutty and green element in it. Not as smoky though. It's just heavy powdery "red" woody and amber-y resinous like these incense sticks. It is not the incense smell of a Greek church, so I had hoped for a more Greek smelling incense, not the Indian pungent incense scent. The projection is unbelievably good in the opening, mid phase, drydown and later drydown, and it lasts about 6 hours on me and forever on clothes. As I said this is not churchy and super smoky just very woody and thick. Its smokiness is just the heavy powdery balsamic scent of the Indian incense sticks, thickly sweet. It's a dark scent so paired with other woody perfumes is the best route for this imo. I wish the drydown stayed lighter as the opening.

Lovely scent! Reminds me of Catholic funeral processions. I'm not trying to be morbid, it's just a childhood memory of mine. I grew up close to an old cemetery. The smell of the priest's censer brings me back to those days. The frag doesn't last, like others have said. It's nice but not nice enough to spring for a whole bottle.

This was a surprise. It's like walking through an old Cathedral after the priest wafted incense through the antique wooden pews. It's different and I love it. Besides, Frankincense has been known to have medicinal, healing property.

A pretty smelling and strong smell- spray ye not too much. I love the incense smell, a high concentration, smells better after it has left the bottle.

This is the first Demeter spray I've smelled and I really like it! I have a bottle of frankincense essential oil and I've also smelled frankincense in Avignon & L'air du Desert Marocain which is one of my favorites. So I'm pretty familiar with the scent in perfumery but not in church. Demeter's Frankincense begins balmy and medicinal, and while the frankincense is the star, it has a strong dose of benzoin/vanilla (not sure which) that sweetens it up a lot. The effect is a tangy incense that's like an undressed, spiceless version of LDDM's base. For the price point it's impressive stuff, and a great introduction to Demeters. EDIT: This strangely started to smell like a flat cola to me! Light molasses syrup over straight frankincense. That's also probably what gave me the tangy/medicinal impression. I can see myself layering this with wood, vanilla, or spice scents. EDIT EDIT: Smells great layered with orange scents!

One of the best Demeters. It went on a bit like myrrh/cola then became a bit balsamic and almost a fir note but then the incense took over. It was very soft with an amber quality.

Sometimes I spray a bit on a cotton pad and stick it in a candle container once the candle’s run out, as a room scent. I never wear it. It smells of chemical spices that will burn your skin, but it smells alright diffused in small doses around the house. This is the only Demeter scent I own so my experience might be a fluke, but the bottle leaked badly from the top while in storage and is difficult to spray properly. The liquid leaks out around the depressor and gets all over my hands. Overall, a bit of a disappointment for me.

This is a lovely, wearable scent that smells nothing like frankincense resin. (The type that's burnt at Church.) I've burnt frankincense resin many times at home, so I know what it smells like. On Demeter's website, it says, there are many different types of frankincense. Maybe, the batch I got is different from what other people are smelling now. I have the perfume oil. For a genuine dry floral frankincense resin scent, try Demeter Silvery Tip Pekoe. Yes, a tea scent.

Resembles a LOT This Is Him by Zadig & Voltaire Wanted it to be Churchy but, instead, It’s Frankincense + Tonka/Vanilla + Spices AND I swear I smell cannabis. Very nice, Nothing special nor groundbreaking... It’s nice and warm as an air freshener/fabric mist.

I imagine some of the reviews for Demeter's "Frankincense" ended up on their US version's "Incense" page. I have no idea if these two perfumes are actually the same with different names, or are indeed different fragrances as well. But the review left by Eludiastar on "Incense" sharply mirrors my own for "Frankincense". And as such I concur with her observation that this scent does not smell anything like the incense I remember loving so much when I was little and they burnt it in Church around Christmas. I'm pretty sure the key ingredient in use has been derived from Benzoin, as the smell is sharp and sweet, almost medicinal or antiseptic. It catches at the nose and the back of the throat on initial application. I am even reminded of new mould. Again, on dry down, the scent becomes distinctly like powdery vanilla pipe smoke - another aspect of Benzoin use. If you are a true lover of traditional 'church incense' then I suggest you try Annick Goutal's spicy, peppery "Encens Flamboyant".

I've been delaying my review of this scent, because my honest opinion will just sound absurd... ...but I've now smelled it multiple times (why?) and the result is always the same, so here it is. Demeter Frankincense smells nothing like frankincense or any other resinous or incense-like perfume. Instead, ...it smells like (sigh) ...mashed hazelnuts mixed with vintage Je Reviens parfum. I don't even know what to say. The combination is not pleasant and shouldn't even exist. And why? Was there some egregious error in the formula's blending or bottling?

Vanilla hits me at first spray. Give it a second and it's more benzoin than smoke or incense. Once its completely dry then it turns into a sweet resin and maybe a slightly faint incense far in the background. Not as smoky or frankincensey as I'd hope for, but its not bad. The medicinal flavor in this I like, it makes this interesting. Defiantly noticeable and kind of niche smelling. For the price, its worth it, smells way more expensive than what it sells for. Worth a serious look.

My favorite from Demeter. I don’t know what “real” Frankincense smells like. This is a tiny bit sweet, but mostly soft and sexy. Very wearable and lasts a long time on me. I detect something like amber or vanilla, maybe. All I know is that it’d different than anything else I have. I liked it enough to get the large bottle. I’d definitely re-order.

I really enjoy this perfume I would recommend layering it with the myrrh demeter. With those to layerd you will smell like you walked right out of the Black pledge and into a church. However it can be very pungent, so would not recommend if you are very sensitive. If you are ok with that 100% recommend

I got the roller-ball version. It smells rather sweet than I have expected.
