Giant Sequoia

The best scent I've ever had so far! Sweet, fresh, woody but candy-like.. All in one single note apparently! That's Ecxatly what I wanted. A simple scent but with all of these features. It's like wood and licourice <3<3<3 I LOVE IT. <3<3<3

Unexpectedly sweet. A soft and fresh woody scent with a creamy sweetness that reminds me of cola syrup. Has a similar fragrance to Method's "Daily Wood Cleaner" (a cleaning product we use on the wood in our house). It's clean and unoffensive. A unisex scent that leans feminine. Could be an option if you want something fresh that isn't full of blue or green notes. Soft projection, average longevity.

I had really hoped for something more woodsy, earthy but what I get is floral, fern, and lightness. I’ve layered it with darker earthy scents and it seems to add some missing brightness and sweet missing from some of my more resin based scents fragrances. My experience seems to jive with others experience here. Was a blind buy based on a sale and first experience with Demeter. More feminine leaning than I expected.

I have no idea how a giant sequoia smells like, but probably not like this liquid. Everyone's and my first association was grandma's perfume. It's sweet, but not too cloying. I'm just noting that Demeter's woody scents are often not woody at all, it's better to take Sawdust instead

Demeter is one of those companies that is hit or miss. Once in a while they have a spectacular hit - their honeysuckle scent is the most true to life of any I’ve ever smelled - but too many of their scents miss by a mile. I just tried a sample of their Greenhouse that was generously included in a swap package from another Fragrantican, and immediately knew that this was one of those misses. It's not on the Fragrantica list, but it smells pretty much like the bottle of Giant Sequoia that broke in transit when Demeter shipped it to me, so the two reviews can be rolled into one. Greenhouse/Giant Sequoia is a generic, synthetic, perfumey scent that bears no resemblance to anything that ever existed in a real greenhouse or near a sequoia tree. It’s as if they took their usual synthetic slop, pasted a new name on it, and hoped no one would notice that it smells about the same as half of their other offerings. I know my greenhouse (or a giant sequoia tree) has never smelled like someone spilled a bottle of cheap Chanel Egoiste knock-off, and I doubt anyone else’s has either unless the accident in question actually occurred. Off to perfume purgatory with poor Greenhouse, and off to the shower for me. I suppose Demeter has different people formulating their scents, some of whom are brilliant and others of whom just don't get it. Shouldn't a greenhouse or a sequoia tree smell plant-like?

Another disappointment. I'm trying to find fragrances that capture the scents of my travels around my home state of California, which is harder than it sounds. I wanted that soft, pillowy, somewhat dusty sweet wood scent of Sequoia bark. This isn't it. Like Doc Elly says, it smells like a cologne, not a tree. Not a bad fragrance, but with Demeter I expect an authentic scent.

Oh, god I hate it. I literally gave this away even though this was gifted to me. Overtly cloying & like rotting winter red berries.. Maybe I am just being effected by the overtly synethic part of Demeter's scents too much, but it just doesn't sit right with me. Ever. Maybe if I want to make myself or someone else smell like a christmas zombie though, I'll return to buy this.

Smells like the wet wipes to clean babies’ bottoms. For that reason, I'm out.
