Grass

This is very much a photorealistic grass scent. I remember before climate change was as bad as it is today, this is what the yard of my childhood home smelled like after one of my parents had mowed the grass. There's a sweetness here that real grass can only mimic with a certain amount of hydration that has been lacking in my area for the past fifteen years or so. It used to rain at least once a week, now it's more like once a month. The longevity on this is not great, especially if you're not using the oil. I do use the oil, and it lasts around two hours, but it becomes a skin scent after about thirty to forty five minutes. I don't mind this, really. I wear fragrances for my own enjoyment. The oil also soaks in pretty quickly and doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy, which is always a plus. This is also one of the few truly unisex fragrances I've encountered. Grass is one of the few fragrance notes that isn't gendered, period.

The first burst of Demeter Grass is very sweet, almost fresh-cut-hay sweet, but it very quickly settles into a lovely grass scent. The most linear scent I own, in fact, it's nothing. but. grass. This linear quality does not take away from its finesse, however, because grass is one of nature's most perfect smells - and Demeter has bottled it well. I love to layer this with essential oils such as lily of the valley or lilac; it also works wonderfully with Gres Cabotine Rose and Bliss. It's also amazing as a room or linen scent. Nothing but grass - perfect!

The opening smells so much like real grass that it made me feel like I was back in the playing fields at my old school.. :) Then it becomes quite sweet, almost like a dewy coconut note.. I'm not sure about the sweet note :/ if it was even a hint sweeter it would've annoyed me.. I just don't like savory mixed with sweet in any way and I see grass as savoury I guess :/ But overall this is nice, very green, good projection and longevity for the price. I like it.

this is bright, juicy, damp grass. so fresh! it is kind of a flowery grass; i've seen some reviews mention that if you think of grass as more metallic than this, you're probably missing the gasoline of the lawnmower. this is fistfuls of young grass at the park, far from the street. of the 3 demeter scents i picked up, this one lasts the longest, which is honestly a pretty low bar but i'm pleased with its longevity. i get probably 4-5 hours out of it.

I bought the perfume oil version of this back in 2024, and loved it. However, I just bought another roller ball, and I'm so incredibly disappointed. The scent itself has not changed, but it is EXTREMELY weak -- and it was not super strong to begin with. When I roll some on my inner elbow or my wrist, I have to put my nose right up to my skin to smell it. The inside of the cap smells like nothing. What a joke. Buyer beware.

Grass! All I get is grass, nothing synthetic or obnoxious, just a big pile of freshly mown grass clippings on a sunny day. Reminds me of the summer I spent working at an arboretum. I love this by itself, or layered with pretty much any floral scent.

Excellent sweet grass fragrance, will work really well layered with other scents but is good enough to be worn alone if you're in the mood for something simple. Great for summer!

I bought this because of a random YouTube comment I saw about this specific fragrance from the brand, but after I had ordered it I saw all these other reviews from below and thought "oh no..." Now that I've been able to try it, I'm glad to know that I do quite like it. The initial spray to me does smell like grass, with the scent becoming wetter and more watery over time. The dry down to me switches between smelling a little bit more citrusy (still not a full blown citrus fragrance to me though), to a sliiiiightly musky scent reminiscent of the powdery smell you get when there's a lot of pollen in the air and also smelling like grass-scented shampoo. The longevity also surprised me since most reviews online talk about its short longevity, but I could still smell this on me by the 5th and 6th hour. That's probably its limit though, but considering this is an EDC I was quite pleased. This was a great first try from Demeter and I'm eager to try & buy more from them after this one.

Of course, everyone here has nailed it when they say: it smells like grass. That's what I wanted, that's why I bought it, and that's what I got! I don't like it quite as much as my beloved, discontinued Gap Grass. Since it's just the one note, it's very simple, linear. But this is great for layering. Right now I have it layered with J.S. Fancy Girl, and it adds a lovely greenness to anything fruity/creamy/fresh. A word of caution: this is, for some reason, VERY oily. As such it seems to last longer than other Demeters on me, which is nice, but be careful with spraying it on clothing.

Oh I love this! It's grassy and sweet, and doesn't slip into sneezey perfumey weirdness like a lot of grassy-green fragrances tend to do for me, no soap, pollen, lettuce or fabric softener to be found! It doesn't smell like grass clippings that came out of the lawn mower, either. It almost smells like chammomile tea as it dries down, warm and a little hay-like, very gentle and pleasant.

I saw this at grocery store and decided to give it a try. I'm not sure if it's my skin chemistry (I had just worked out and had sweated earlier) but this had a reaction that smelled powdery. If I had to compare the drydown to something, it would be Versace Dreamer. Anyone else experience this?

I love it because it makes me feel like I'm lying on grass without a care in the world - my boyfriend says I smell like unripe plums though :/. I still wear it haha. Also, if you wear it layered with a strawberry-scented body lotion, it smells like strawberry fields XD

Such a strange little number. I never really use it as a perfume, but I like to use it as a fabric or room spray. This scent mixed with Demeter's Mountain Air scent makes for a very fresh living room! It's not exactly like grass, but very close.

Tried on in store, and my best friend owns it. It's very reminiscent of sunscreen and fresh cut grass in the summertime. When the grass is so dry it hurts your bare feet, sticks to your feet after swimming, and makes your ankles itch.

Apply this, then chase it with a shot of either Grey Flannel or Encre Noir Sport. Each blends well with Grass...GF gives a rainy day tone while EN-S smells more like autumn.

Amazing smell of freshly cut grass, great for layering (I love it particularly with Dirt and Violet by Demeter Fragrance Library).

This is what summer smells like to me. Pure neutral fresh cut grass. I layer it with peony and jasmine fragrances and it's great.

It is realistic, but, for me, the performance could be improved. Freshly cut grass. They did a good job with this one, anyway.

There's a reason this is one of Demeter's top scents: it smells exactly the way it's supposed to. Just plain grass.

it lacks the depth that makes the smell of grass satisfying. i agree with the consensus that it is too sweet, it smells yellow instead of green, kind of like the dried straw beach matts that you can buy at a dollar store or 5 Below. i guess that means to me it smells more hay-like since it is quite sweet and a bit dry, lacking in water or soil elements. my boyfriend called it "a silly perfume", I think because of how much it doesn't deliver on the promise of it's name. it's sweet smell kind of makes me sad, i feel like this is for people who want the idea of a grass smell, but one that is overly sanitized and missing the less "safe" earthy notes that make up the restorative smell of rolling around in the grass. in my ideal if the fragrance was going to lack the earthy notes i at least would want it to smell like clean watermelon rind, rather than sweet grass. although I'm not a big fan of the fragrance on it's own, since Demeter perfumes are meant to be layered, I thought I could at least use it as a layering fragrance, but although it doesn't have good longevity, it is pungent enough to overpower any of the fragrances I've tried layering it with. i will be trying to return it to the grocery store I bought it from.

I’m trying to love the oil version of this but to me there’s just the cloying sweetness of early Spring after-the-lawnmower cut grass (and I love grass as a fragrance note!!). Hard to describe, it’s too vibrant, neon green, not the mellow fresh note of my dreams. Weaker than the Wet Garden oil. Will layer with something smokey, incense-y, or spicy to see if layering tempers the ick. Edit: turns out layering this with lilac makes it pop in an unexpectedly lovely way!

it is about as grassy as it comes. someone said pine sol and I have to agree it leans into that smell. Its not offensive but it's not a good solo scent either....I topped it with my Jo Malone Rose - which is VERY Rose...hoping to achieve a walk in a rose garden....it' was pretty good!

I'm really thinking maybe I got a bad sample, because my experience is such a polar opposite of most here. But on me, this smelled like a poorly done Pine Sol smell. I have a strong stomach, but this turned it. It's the first perfume to elicit such a strong physical reaction. There's a weird chemical smell in this that just drowns everything else out. I can't get past it to smell the grass or green notes at all. No soapiness, no sweetness, no grass. Just chemical, chemical, chemical. I would definitely recommend sampling this in a store before buying it. Hopefully it's just situation where I got a bad sample. I love green notes, but dear God, this is just awful.

This is very reformulated from when i tried it as a teen, i remember it being light alcohol base, now it has heaps of oils in it. Anyway it opens very strange like plastic melting with dandilions. Think astro turf. I think the reformulation probably helps longevity as i remember this being incredibly fleetibg in the 2000's. Now once the plastic fades lasts better and is a green grass and clover feilds smell with a hint of sweetness. Would recomend for layering only ⛤⛤

Sweet grass. It's not nearly as hyper-realistic as some of their other fragrances. It's unfortunate that it's called Grass instead of Sweet Grass, which would be more fitting. I'm interested in trying Earthworm or Dirt to make it smell and feel more like the grass experience I'm looking for. I would suggest Wet Garden over Grass.

This fragrance truly smells like green grass. And comparing with other fragrances that I have by Demeter, it's long-lasting enough. Or maybe in rolls on perfume oil they are more long-lasting. If you like green grass scent - it's for you. Unfortunately, I don't.

I am really disappointed. I did a blind buy, and I regret it. Very very synthetic. So, still looking for that elusive cut grass smell. It might be your thing, just get a sample before you buy a bottle.

I had so high hopes, but this one was maybe the biggest fragrance disappointment for me so far. It smells like some kind of plastic on me. Overpowering, nasty, not natural at all. I'm devastated. :'(

I really wanted to enjoy this perfume, but it's the only perfume I've ever tried that made my stomach hurt. It smells like grass, but something about the smell sets my body on edge.

This is minty apple air freshener. I'd suggest Maison Martin Margiela's From the Garden for a more photorealistic grass scent.

Not grass. More like a watered down watermelon or green apple jolly rancher candy. Or watermelon rind.

Powdery and synthetic. Something that would eastern european grandma wear.

genuinely smells like shit from a dog. i dont understand how anyone can find this enjoyable to smell as it is so overwhelmingly wet and strangely musky. this scent never leaves you after its sprayed and honestly makes me involuntarily gag every time it washes upon me. if you want to smell like the color green, this is for you. also fuck you if you are trying to smell like the color green because i never want to smell this in public again.

My gosh, with all of the flowery words...it smells exactly like grass. That's it, that's all...grass. Give me a break with the sad attempts at trying to sound like some kind of fragrance connoisseurs. Some scents are as prosaic as the name...and this is one of them. Oh...and please stop with calling everything 'generic', it makes you look like you have a limited vocabulary and cannot make an accurate description. And all of the 'creamy' *eye roll* please be more specific. You sound like a bunch of amateurs that are posing as if you are some kind of aficionados. Just stop. I so miss the older Fragranticans that actually KNEW what they were talking about.

I got a decant of this and decided to wear it because my neighbor across the street is mowing the lawn, and I thought, oh, hey, the scent of freshly cut grass—I should try that Demeter out! Sooo, the result is... I smell like a jelly bean (maybe Bertie Botts grass-flavored jelly bean if we're being generous) mixed with a lil bit of soap. I mean, it's fresh, and green, and very, very sugary on me. I don't know what country grass smells like this (maybe Candyland?), but it's not what I expected at all. I'm a fan of fresh, green, grassy notes, but I'll have to pass on this one.

My new bottle is not "grass." Instead, this fragrance reminds me of walking into a room with a newly opened container of one of those solid white "linen" air fresheners ... after someone sprayed a single shot of Anais Anais, or something similarly floral in an abstract way. It would make a fantastic dryer sheet scent. I've used this on my curtains and bedding. With the warmer weather coming up I'll probably use a few doses on my skin and/or clothes before workouts, running errands, etc. Not "grass" and probably not a proper perfume according to experts; but not bad either.

Yet another surprisingly pleasant and wearable fragrance blended to hear perfection by Demeter. Instantly purchased and likely to be used frequently, especially layerd with a hint of Dirt by Demeter. If you very much adore the smell of recently cut grass plus can recall vividly the joy of a few blissfully sharied romantic youthful moments on a hot summer day, this might well be a delightful purchase to awaken memories rolling about on it with a big smile :o)

This is not a freshly-cut/mowed grass smell as expected. The smell of rolling around on the lawn on a hot summer's day. Smells like summer camp and grass stains on white pants. Smells like making whistles out of blades of grass with friends and learning how to ride a bike. A very subtle, clean scent.

Very synthetic, very unpleasant Smells like those bugspray with "fragrance" to make it more household-friendly but still ends up making you sick because it smells too chemical This is not grass at all if anything, it is the completely opposite of nature

Really thought I would like this fragrance from the reviews. Bought some and found it was way too overpowering of a scent for my nose. Left me with a headache. Does anyone remember Jovan Grass Oil? Is there a fragrance like that perfume?

Got this today in the mail. It smells sweet and a tad powdery. Doesn’t create my idea of grass. So i had the idea to spray “Rhubarb my love.” Now that’s thick green verdure, decadent decay. Gives me a new appreciation to this perfume.

I'm pretty sure this was the first Demeter I ever smelled, and it had me sold on the brand. It is very realistic, but the dry down does not get along with my nose and sinuses for some reason.

Hmmm...no. Some kind one decanted me a bit of this and...I get soap. Green soap. And sun-screen. Pretty strong at first, too. But it's been about 10 minutes now and the scent is barely there.

Smells like freshly cut grass with a slight touch of mint. Nothing more, nothing less.

It really, REALLY smells like grass. Cut grass, sharp and earthy. Loads of fun!
