Greenhouse

Fresh green notes with light florals in the background. The green notes are soft and damp like new leaves and vines instead of sharp like cut grass. It smells like my hands after clearing Virginia Creeper vines off the fence in our yard. Soft projection with medium longevity.

This is really wonderful—green with a bit of spice, an almost photorealistic impression of inhaling the skin of a green pepper. While this doesn’t give me the sense of humidity that a real greenhouse would, I still really enjoy the journey this takes me on.

I wanted to like the green, tomato leaf/vine elements, but it has such a strong soapy/shampoo note that overwhelms. Some bright salinity like plants on the ocean shore. As it settles, it improves and becomes more airy. Loving the bitter green note that remains and isn’t sweet. Smells like damp parsley and sage, but still too soapy and dim. Not the best herbal/plant experience, but different enough to try because it’s cheap. Especially if you respond to nature fragrances. Just don’t get your hopes up.

Official description is: "Simple. Leaves, blooms, and wonderful smell of humidity. Yes, humidity has smell component, think about it. We wanted to combine those three odors in one bottle, and we did it!". If you want a scent quite like that, buy Wet Garden. Greenhouse is a nosewrinkling blend of a failure. I was feeling lucky and ordered spray + perfume oil and both are the same, even from materials (so my skin chemistry doesn't matter in this case).

I own and have worn several Demeter Fragrances. I'm a big fan of "green" scents, and love Wet Garden, New Zeland, and Lilly of the Valley. When I thought "Greenhouse", I thought of the greenhouses I visit in the summer to buy my tomato plants or annuals. You walk in, its humid, there is a smell of green things growing, humidity, the plastic of the hoses and the containers, moist, fertile earth, and the sun warmed plastic smell of the greenhouse covering. I thought "Ahhhh, that sounds lovely". That is *not* what this is. This is a green house under construction, built but not yet used. You get the sterile, synthetic scent of plastic - and a lot of it - and a bit of humidity, and nothing more. No growing things. No potting soil. Nothing wet, dirty, nothing earthy. This greenhouse does not even have a dirt floor, its all concrete and hardness and sun warmed plastic. Sadly, the first Demeter scent I sent back.
