Kahala Hawaiian Surf

This is sweeter, more tropical, and far more complex than the posted notes would have one believe. The posted notes are misleading. @ RobbieX, There are definitely more notes in here than salt and seawater. I live in So Cal and spent many summers on the beach on both coasts, and I'm not smelling seawater or fish in this. :-) @ Fawnmarie is spot on in her description: a tropical blend of pineapple, frangipani, and a bit of jasmine. (To my nose the jasmine in this is like the plant we have here in Los Angeles in Spring and Summer--we call it "night blooming jasmine" but it's actually a different plant). Also a bit of vintage Hawaiian Tropic suntan oil, ocean air, and maybe the slightest bit of musk, because there's a sun-warmed skin aspect to it that brings in a little more depth and sexiness. I smell a bit of lime daiquari in there, too: lime juice and a whiff of white rum. Atmospherically Kahala smellls like a wonderful day at the beach with tropical cocktails, but no seawater or fish. :-) It's one of my favorite spring and summer fragrances, and I wear my bottle sparingly, because it can be so hard to find. ETA: One of the few I could continue to wear as much as I liked after developing migraines and fragrance sensitivities. Scarcity is the only thing that ever keeps me from this one!

I loved this! It wasn't usually what I would wear and I wasn't ever 100% sure it was perfect for me! but I could just smell it right from the bottle and that was enough for me to love it. It's salty and fresh and there's something else...I have never been to Hawaii, but I always wanted to imagine that this would be the scent coming arriving in the breeze coming off the wet rocks and shore..something comforting about it but so lively with beautiful notes.

I adore this scent! Such a clean, tropical, summer scent! To me it is the perfect combo of fruity and aquatic

Smells like salty sea water and a sort of vague fresh greenness, like bamboo. Not a traditional perfume for sure. Makes me think of being at the beach of a small tropical island, with the fresh cool morning breeze blowing on me and the lush vegetation in the background. Has nothing in common with Bronze Goddess except that both have a summery feeling.

More like Jones Beach at low tide after a high school beach party. Empty beer cans, used condoms, rotting fish, and moldy seaweed.

I am really not one for marine fragrances, but everytime I take a hit off this cologne, my eyes roll back in ecstasy. This truly transports me to a beautiful, peaceful, zen-like place in my mind. Ahhhhhhhh... It's weird but each review I've read for this cologne seems to be describing totally different aromas. For me, all I detect is a pure and simple combination of powder and marine. And IT WORKS! My olfactory glands might be biased here, because Kahala rekindled childhood memories of a fragrant body powder that I once owned. Side note: this is one of the rare Demeters which has a long staying power. It will actually hang around overnight, although projection will fade of course.

This one is very similar to Salt Air for me, although there's a slight something else under the marine notes. Suntan lotion w/ coconut notes in a plastic bottle? A piña colada? Whatever it is, it's very under the surface for me. I'm mostly getting sweet saltwater. It's fine, but I don't think it really stands out against all the other Demeters I've been trying. A friend decanted this for me, and it looks like it's discontinued/hard to find. For anyone who hasn't tried this but wants to: I wouldn't fret. You could probably mix Demeter's Salt Air + Suntan Lotion scents together and recreate this pretty easily (maybe throw in some Swimming Pool?).

Doesn't anyone smell the fresh, crisp pineapple in this fragrance? This is more of a tropical perfume than a "salty" one. It does bring to mind warm sea breezes and palm trees, but that's due to the frangipani and jasmine in the base. I really like this scent, I bought it at Sephora about 7 years ago and wish it weren't so hard to find. A fresh, crisp, sunny fragrance with a sweet pineapple opening. Crashing waves and seafoam coolness come in next, with frangipani shining through at the very end. Nice scent!

I'm not generally a fan of beachy fragrances that are salty, marine, almost fishy... but this one is okay & can tolerate it in the Fall when the weather's still warm but the humidity drops. Gives me a lingering feeling of the beach as summer fades away... I love that Demeter makes refillable bottles that I can reuse. The quality of the bottle is simple but nice & sturdy.

Although is not sweet or smells like coconut etc,(which I love) I still find it summer like:is refreshing, SALTY and it does take me to a happy place by the sea. I wish it had better sillage,it smells strongly (in a good way) when just applied but fades very quickly. Bottom line: fresh, reminiscent of the sea and a quick fix for summer.

Ocean breeze and suntan lotion; this is exactly what I get when I wear this fragrance. It definatly brings back memories of the beach; a great fragrance for the summer.

I really regret this blind buy. It smells exactly like lavender soap. No coconut, no salt, no sea water, and definitely no Hawaiii or surf. Really sucks.

Haven't got this OR smelled it, but, there must be more notes in it that salt and seawater!!
