Mushroom

If you enjoy mushroom hunting, or the smell of a warm, wet spring forest specifically in the Midwest, this is what you’ve been looking for. Not petrichor, not rain, not “wet” but THIS. Lasts a long time also, perfect for layering, not overwhelming, I wear this almost constantly and it is such a comforting happy smells for me as a barefoot forest kid.

In the bottle, it smells exactly like a mushroom. On my skin, it morphed into something a little more earthy, maybe slightly nutty. I think this would be good to wear outdoors or on a hike, but maybe not out in public as the dankness of the mushroom wouldn’t be appealing to everyone. I personally love the scent of mushrooms so when I wear this it’s just for myself. I’d recommend layering it with a woody spicy fragrance like Replica’s Autumn vibes to make it more interesting yet inoffensive.

It smells exactly like Oyster mushrooms, or any mushroom that is on the edge of going bad. Honestly, it's borderline enjoyable but gets into a borderline "unfun & smells like dead fish" territory fast depending on what weather you're wearing it in. I mean, that could be good if you're trying to smell like you just came off a fishing boat though...

This doesn't really smell like mushrooms to me. Not like cutting fresh mushrooms. Not like opening a can of mushrooms. Doesn't smell like anything edible at all. It does smell earthy/mineral-y and damp/dank. Not like actual earth or soil, though; not to my nose. There's an artificial quality to the earthiness that makes me think of wet concrete as it's setting. It's a very "grey" smell. I don't think this works as a wearable perfume on its own. Maybe blended with something else, but I think I would still dislike it. I feel like this note would spoil something else rather than something else making this smell better. Bleh. It does start to smell somewhat more realistically like mushrooms as it dries down. But it's still not exactly right; it lacks that savory, edible quality inside the earthiness that real mushrooms have. I don't really blame Demeter, though; it's quite possible that I'm just not a fan of mushrooms in perfumery.
